"Because when staffers plant questions, it means they don't trust the candidate to handle herself in public. They don't think she can answer real questions from real people.

Of course that's what it means. Hillary proved she could not answer the tough questions during the last debate in Philadelphia. Then to top it off, she needed some kid to ask her planted questions because the serious questions she has trouble with.

Chris Dodd is right; Hillary is on both sides of every issue. She cannot make up her mind on anything.

If Bill Clinton wants to get into a war over his wife, he had better choose his words a little more carefully or go back to making speeches at a quarter million per and just add to the family bank account.

Hearts and Minds. The democrats are so afraid of their own shadow that they cannot see they have their thinking all wrong. clinton is not only closer to republican values than democratic ones, but, is roundly disliked not just by indies and republicans but, half her own party. But, they still fool themselves into believing she is the best bet to win! How silly is that thinking.
You don't win by putting forth the most disliked politician to be your party's nominee and think you can actually win.
the republicans are just hoping we do something this stupid because they have so much to use to knock her out of any chance of winning, no matter how much she brags she can fight the republicans. Yet she cries gender and foul because she is questioned on her avoiding answering any questions. If she can't take that, how can she be believed to be strong enough against republicans. Yet, my party is too snake bit and gullible to believe her empty retoric.
And, Obama who embodies what democrats are about, is the progressive we have looked for, is concidered easy to beat? Even when republicans and independents are flocking to his camp. Just because he doesn't bash in Hillary's head they think he will let republicans push him around? Again, the thinking is so screwed up. obama has always been able to take care of himself without being ugly like Hillary. and is effective. Plus, if you are well liked by your own party, don't cause people to revolt, and you are attracting people from the other side, how can democrats believe he is not electable? The polling shows him a heck of alot more electable against any republican than Hillary.
I despair of my party. We have become so nervous, silly and lost we cannot see who is the one who can get elected and run for the one who is the most likely to lose.
As long as we keep nominating the Mondales, dukakis kind of candidates we lose. and Hillary is one of those that we alway nominate and why we don't get the white house.

Jean, I'm very much a women. I'm in that group of women that Hillary polls worst with (college graduate professional women). Would I like there to be a women President? Of course. I grew up thinking it would never happen in my lifetime. While I would like there to be a women President, I will never vote for a candidate for any office solely because she's a women. If all other factors were equal I would have no problem using gender as the reason to support the women. But a women candidate doesn't start out ahead merely because we share the same gender.

You ask some AA "Why do you vote Democrat?" the answer is more often than not "Because my family always does". No substance to the reason and that is why the social programs continue to capture and hold hostage our community. The Democrats know how to keep the African American vote, just say that the Republicans are going to take away welfare, food-stamps, section 8 housing, social security, disability payments, AFDC checks, etc. I hate to say it that way, but it IS THE DAMN TRUTH.

Hillary is trying to be crowned the nominee without taking positions on key issues. If our candidates does not present anything concrete to be examined then how can I vote for them. I fthey dont reveil anything until after the election, how can I make a judgement. Im sorry but just saying, Bush this, Bush that is not going to cut it. Bush is not running. If we dont start focusing on the general election and winning some Republicans, we might as well hang it up. Trashing Bush is only solidifying the Republican party. A 50% plus 1 majority is not going to solve jack. The only way to change things is to win some Republicans, like about 20 - 30%. Just my thoughts.

The Democrats know how to keep the African American vote, just say that the Republicans are going to take away welfare, food-stamps, section 8 housing, social security, disability payments, AFDC checks, etc. I hate to say it that way, but it IS THE DAMN TRUTH.

I have been in that situation and at the rate of the economy it looks as if I maybe heading back down that
bush/republican foresaken road.

Ths Clintons are banking on the African Americans to run the white house again, I for one will not be in that corner. They know from census, statics, or polls
or what the hell their calling it now, that the
African Americans out number the White Americans.

I am a women and I have checked and researched the Clintons background and for what I have found I did not like. Bill & Hillary Clinton, 15 years of dishonesty, scandal and divisiveness.

They come with too much baggage, they are not for the poor people or the middle class people, they are for the Clintons and them alone.
HRC:
Has no "EXPERIENCE" managing any kind of business.
Has no "EXPERIENCE" managing any cities.
Has no "EXPERIENCE" managing any communities.

We can not let her manage this country either,
it is too late in the game for her to start at the top to try and manage anything but Bill and she couldn`t even do that when she was first lady.

HRC continues to display what a corrupt, dishonest, and corporate owned entity she is, and the media continues to praise her, they can't give a coherent reason for praising her, but praise her they must, seems to be the general consensus of all her backers, we don't know why they back her but they sure as hell do, a single file line of sheep obediently marching to the slaughter-house.

We as ordinary people truly love Obama, recognize that he is genuine, honesty and that his professional choices are at the core of the man.

They can all speak against this man but he is the reall deal.
Not hiding anything and not backing down from wwhat he has stated all along.
Barack shows why he’s better and that he will not be arrogant and make assumptions about holding the office. He reminds everyone that we’ve lived in arrogance for 7 years and that is the reason the President and the Senate made the mistake about Iraq. He reminds everyone that this overly confident cocky attitude will lead this country into another 4-8 years of deadlock government and that our country can’t afford to make that mistake again.

It's a matter of time before everyone looks at how HRC presents herself.

Besides is there something wrong about a gent standing up for his wife? Think about the 2000 election..Al Gore won the popular vote. I agree that Hillary's Campaign is doing a poor job for two weeks keeping a lid on things. She is having the worse two weeks of her campaign. Having watched politics for a long time, I do not know that she can recover from this, but while she is wounded, Bill Clinton should STOP TALKING about it.

On Obama, I have the same fear that the Republicans will "eat him alive" in the general election.

If I had to choose a Dem Candidate that could win a general election "dirty politics gladiator words sparring match"....Biden or Dodd come to mind, with Bill Richardson a close third. It is just that the country does not know them as well as Hillary.

Need your help to decide. On Social Security, Hillary said we need fiscal responsibility first and follow it up with bi-partisan group.

Obama initially said Hillary has no position and then said Hillary only wants fiscal responsibility to solve Social Security. When asked by Tim Russert what you will do, Obama said I will have a bipartisan group and raise the cap limit to tax people more.

Where am I losing it? Who is telling the truth? Also, why have a bi partisan group if you want to raise tax?

Can some enlightened Democrat help me with my confusion of who is saying what?

Obama is the political equivelant of the second coming of Christ. You should be so luck to have him. Like Lincoln and Kennedy(who were both first term sen.)before him, Barack Obama will bring true progress to a divided country. He doesn't flip-flop like Guiliani and Romney, and he doesn't purposely obscure his positions for political gains like Clinton.
He is what he says he is. Obama will become the bridge of communication in this country. We will, together, work to fix both domestic problems like Healthcare, immigration, Social Security, and energy, and Foreign policy issues like reclaming our standing in the international community, Darfur, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan just to name a few.
Obama recently quoted Dr. King Jr in his JJ fundraising dinner speech. MLK speaks of, "the imminent urgency of now". We're there, people. And finally as a Texan living in Austin, I regect the notion that Obama can't win this state. 20,000 people showed up to an Obama rally earlier this year. That view, however, speaks to my point. Barack Obama is transcendant.
God bless us all if HRC wins the nomination. Eight more years of a republican administration.

Edwards got so mad that he will go republican if Hillary wins the nomination. Whenever I see Edwards on TV, I just could not stop thinking how nice his hair is and the price on top of it, it drowns whatever message he is sending out. He just does not cut it for me. Hillary on the other hand is being talked about more than anybody this time because of her stumbles and mistakes. Surely does make me think twice about her, but good or bad publicity is still publicity and free at that. She should start worrying if nobody talks about her anymore then shes done. Obama I dont know, I like him too but can He win the general? He is so new, his background, Indonesia? Hawaii? muslim father? you just wonder what he really is.

It's late and so y'all won't see this until tomorrow (if at all) but I'll write it anyway. I mentioned that I was in Claremont NH yesterday and watched Obama speak to a crowd of 500 in Stevens High School gymnasium. It was an intimate gathering, unlike the usual 10-20k crowds to which he's become accustomed.

The appearance by Obama was remarkable. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've admitted many times that I already have drunk the Kool-aide. And yesterday, I drank a little more. He was precise (there was no triangulating - he took specific positions on the war and on Social Security), he was inspiring bringing the crowd to boisterous applause on countless occassions. He was humerous, told his 'Fire it up! Ready to go!' story, poignant, telling us that his desire to conduct this campaign in the right way, outweighed his need to win - he said that he refuses to 'knee cap Hillary' (and made me feel guilty for trashing her as I have on these sites - he even said that she was intelligent and a great public servant). But it was he who demonstrated his intelligence by clearly delineating his policy on education and health care.

I was there as a volunteer and while meandering around the room, was handing out paraphernalia. I had the opportunity to observe the crowd's reaction and it was amazing- many converts from Edwards' and Hillary's camps (Is Joe Trippi next?).

Anyway, people who have read my posts know that I am unabashedly a Barack supporter so my comments should
be taken with a grain of salt. But sill, this is how I saw it. Barack is it. He is intelligent and inspirational. It is as if Gene McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy had had a child.

He is even more charismatic than was our Jack Kennedy, of almost 50 years ago. And that is because his story is more American, more compelling and because I suspect he doesn't have the character flaws that plagued John Kennedy.

I've been a political dawg since Kennedy's election, when I was 8 years old and I have to say that Barack is truly the most inspirational candidate to come along in almost 50 years. He is the right stuff and it's because he is genuine and thoughtful and intelligent and because he has such a compelling story that he is inspirational.

One other thing. I didn't get the whole story but the State Department had some young guests from foreign nations attending the rally. Two Israelis (one Palestinian and one Ethiopian?), two Phillipino women and two Kenyan women. The enthusiasm exhibited by these guests was palpable. The fact that the United States could be electing a president with such a world view (yes and that he was a person of color with a middle name of Hussein) was exhilarating for them. It moved me. Could Barack be the perfect storm? Not a catastrophic storm but the kind that washes away all the heat and all the stagnant, bad air of this present administration. Yes, Barack could be the kind of storm that would give us all a fresh start.

Those of you, non-believers, even the Hillary supporters, should take another look at Barack. A real look. He's worth it. We're worth it. Thanks for taking the time to read this, but I doubt that I came close to capturing the electricity that was in that gymnasium, yesterday.

So many people around here with so many friends with so many confirmed votes against Hillary.
It’s disproportionate dogma.
It’s a charade from a few dissenters, a few hundred at most, who consider their recurring angst a reflection of the attitudes of 120 million other likely voters.
It’s hate as certitude, imbalance in love with nonsense.

For what it’s worth, which is litle at all, I know somebody who says that all 27 members of her weekly book club swear that they’ll vote for Hillary.
To which I say, as to all others who’ve seen the light and swear that their vision is true, what’s it prove besides hope’s being mistaken for fact?

Why so much hatred? And at one place you say you will follow Bush Republican road and at some other place you say you are a leftie.

I feel you are the most dishonest person in this blog and I am ashamed First Read has allowed you to do that. What value are you in this blog discussion other than spewing the venom of hatred every time? And that too using the same words in all the post?

Add something new, something thoughtful, something which helps people decide. I know a Republican classmate of mine who sits the whole day, acting as a woman or African American or whatever is needed, on a blog to spew hatred against Democrats. He got paid for that (may be one of Karl Rove associates). Doesnt matter if you are one of those, as you have been distasteful so far.

Bring some meaning in your life. It may bloom one day, since it hasnt so far.

I liked Biden until he accused Obama of busing in people from Illinois for the JJ. dinner in Iowa. This was untrue and kind of cheap for a "statesman." He wouldn't make a good President because he would always have to be explaining away some loose canon statement that shot out of his mouth. His generation, including Dodd, Richardson,and especially Clinton, need to let go. I am a boomer and I have come to realize that we need to let go of the old political wars of the 60's. Be glad that you are in America so your nonsense is being allowed by people. I dont intend to stop you from stating your opinions because it seems that is all you got in this life.

But add some value in the discussion. You can state your hatred once or twice but repeating the same nonsense in 99% of your post is meaningless.
