If Mitt wins the nomination, I think he and his religion will face a lot more of this. The Mormon Church has been shrouded in secrecy for many years. People want to know for whom they vote and what a person believes does color their decision making abilities. Fair Game.

So if it's OK for anti-Mormon comments and calls, which I see as discriminatory, then why wouldn't it be OK for anyone who wanted to be so ignorant as to mention skin color or gender? And, why haven't commentators asked ALL of the candidates what their religion is, how many times a year they go to church, what are their specific religous beliefs, etc.? Very discriminatory... I thought America was founded for religous freedom - so why should it be such a big deal about Romney. Was not JFK the first catholic president?

Disgraceful way of playing politics. So far I haven't received any Republican push-polls, but I've had five for the left-wing in the past few months. Each time I politely tell the person calling exactly why he/she's an idiot, and then hang up.
While I'm an atheist, I was raised in a Mormon family. It's just one branch of Christianity, the people no different than one of dozens of branches/religions. Being Mormon makes a person just as qualified to be President as a Christian, as is a Jew or atheist or any religion. The religion doesn't dictate morals or actions, it is merely one reason among many for a person to make the choices they make, and for many of us isn't a reason at all. What's important is those morals and actions, not the reasoning behind the person's choice to hold to them. Ignoring actions in favor of listening to well-written rhetoric is how Clinton became President, and now ignoring actions in favor of buying into personal spin unrelated to the necessities of the presidency will decide this one.

As a gay former Mormon, I can say whole heartedly that Mitt Romney is far and away the best candidate out there. All this crap against Mormons is just that. Crap. If the worst thing you can say about Mitt is that some guy said something offensive 150 years ago, then I would say you are doing pretty good. After all, I can point to just a few years ago where Huckabee wanted to round up AIDS patients and ship them to an island somewhere.

My evangelical aunt said to me "Since Romney wants to be president, it's REALLY important to know just exactly what he believes", justifying her churches Mormon Nights. Does no one understand that learning about a subject is different than learning why its wrong? ANY perspective, true or false, can have a persuasive arguement against it. The lady quoted in the Iowa voting said that she had looked into the reason Huckabee made his decision on his immigration statement. Why don't people look into the Mormon beliefs and standards before deciding that we're a cult or bad in general. Some things in life are too sacred to share with the public. This is the difference: sacred as opposed to secret. The public is welcome to learn all about Mormonism from the people who know it best...Mormons! Why listen to outsiders who really don't get it. Truth is what matters most to us Mormons. Find out the truth about our religion, we have nothing to do but share the love of our Heavenly Father and his beloved Son, Jesus Christ, with you.
