besides, isn't it about time to quit worrying so much over the republicans. They are not some big monster but, human beings like democrats are.
any democrat who has conviction of his stands and doesn't have baggage to use against him can certainly stand up for himself.
There was a time when democrats were not so spineless and picked their candidates according to how much hot air they spoused about beating up republicans.
They were confident in themselves and we picked candidates based on who would be the best nominee and president for the time. And, gee, that was when we won.
Ever since we let republicans psyche us out, we choose them according to whether they can beat someone up or not. Please.
Worry about the country and not beating up republicans. the only reason Kerry got killed by the swiftboaters was because he waited too long to fight for himself. I've decided over the weekend that Bush is insane, lierally, clinically insane; I've worked with the seriously mentally ill for twenty years, and wouldn't trust a one of them in any position of power. When you elect madment to the helm of your country, BAD, bAD thins happen. Garden variety psychotics become, with enormous power at the fingertips, DANGEROUS psychotics. Bush and Cheney have complementary psychoses; Bush things he's God's annointed to bring democracy to the crazy Middle East---and Cheney thinks he (and Big Oil) is God. I say again; look at Rome under Caligula or Nero, or Germany under Hitler, or Russia under Stalin---whenever mad men rule, BAD, BAD thins happen. Just look at the past seven years.
So, I, for one, am opting out. I read ove rthe weekend of a guy who used to stand out in front of the White House during the Vietnam war holding a candle. A cynical reporter once asked him one rainy night, "do you really think you can change the country" and the guy answered, "No. I'm just trying to keep the country from changing me." Bush and Cheney are literall, clinically, flat-out, dangerously insane. I used to get all foaming-at-the-mouth speaking or even thinking about them. From now on, I'm not going to let Bush and Cheney's insanity make me crazy in response. I’m just curious. I saw President Bush, with his wife Laura, being interviewed at Camp David and they were beaming with pride, relishing in what was being touted as the success of his ‘surge strategy’ in Iraq. Now, without even getting into the obvious criticism that most everything else he has done has been a failure (and that of course is when viewed from the perspective of the majority of Americans and not just that of Special Interests), I have a hard time seeing the justification for his pride and simply have the following questions*.
• Realizing that there are several other conditions contributing to any reduction in the current violence, like: the Iraqi’s who have undertaken fighting against the insurgency to retake their neighborhoods; then the fact that they have literally already accomplished their local ethnic cleansing goals; that they have simply tired of the deplorable conditions and fighting; and that they have recognized that the insurgency’s interests aren’t consistent with their own; then really how much credit does the ‘surge’ deserve?
• With American taxpayer dollars being given to pay, support, supply and reward the local ‘warlords’ for fighting against the insurgency, how much is it costing us and how fragile is that effort when the money stops coming?
• Without any progress in the central government, which was the main and the real necessary objective, how can there actually be any success?
• Now that we have established a country of many small armies, what will be the ongoing conditions and the future results?

I think any talk of success is very premature, is really unwarranted and actually is just more arrogant propaganda! To be that proud while ignoring all the harm that has been done is once more totally indicative of a lack of any conscience. We sure don’t need any more of that sociopathic mentality next time around and hopefully we, the voters, are well aware of it.

* Why doesn’t the media ask these questions and address these issues? Is it worse to face the truth or to support a continuing, repetitive art of deception?

Both are operating away from the media spotlight

The big pointfor me is that if Clinton and Romney don't take Iowa, it will dent their armor.
They're no longer front runners, deserving of all the media hype

I think there is still room for debate as to whether or not Senator Clinton has the best chance to win. The Democratic Party hierarchy could do themselves a tremendous favor if they did an ubiased, realistic poll of the depth of the "anyone but Hillary" sentiment in the country, particularly in small towns and rural America.

She is an intelligent, capable woman, and a highly skilled politician, but the bottom line for many voters is "vote your gut feeling," and I am not sure if she has captured the hearts of average Americans. Many Americans want to vote for someone they genuinely like--not sure if many can say that about Senator Clinton.

I fully understand your rationale. People believe what they want to believe, and no matter how often they are told the grass is green and the sky is blue there will always be those who revel in saying they're not. Right now the world IS insane. It seems for almost a century there have been those who harken back to a constitution and our founding principles. It seems that with every passing generation, these people grow fewer, while the ignorant masses grow exponentially. I don't fret it. The jerry's of the world can only cheerlead for so long until they realize they've been had. That will be a day of reckoning. But trying to awaken an ignorant mass on a message board is a bit like trying to hold a candle in the rain to stop a war. You can't change people whose identities and personal value are wrapped up in the belief of an illusion. Once they concede the illusion they admit their life has been meaningless. The amount of cognitive dissonance (that the jerry's endure) is enough to make a sane person crack or have an aneurysm just hearing some of the nonsense passed off as truth these days.

John Edwards didn't win a single primary in 2004, including his own home state! He was part of a failed campaign in the national election that year as Kerry's running mate. Even Cheney (of all people) cleaned his clock in the VP debate!
Barrack Obama has no experience whatsoever that would qualify him to be President. He stumbles over his own words at the debates, trips himself up, and then attacks Hillary to cover it all up. In fact, that's the only thing he does well; use 1990's NEO-CON rhetoric to attack the Clintons. If you want Obama as your candidate, you might as well vote for a republiCANT because he uses THEIR material about Hillary. Why vote for an imitation when you can vote for the real thing?
First Ladies aren't "divisive." Senatorial Candidates who get better than 65% of the votes in their district aren't divisive. She's done that TWICE!
Ask Edwards why he took a $50,000.00 fee to do a speech on "poverty," and why he needs $400.00 haircuts before he goes out to speak about "two Americas." (We know which America HE lives in, don't we?)
Ask Barrack Obama why he's using Republican rhetoric about the Clinton's at these debates. Ask him why he is trying to divide up the base of Democratic voters in this country, by bickering like an old lady at the debates, and throwing temper tantrums on stage like a child. (.....and on national TV no less!)
I don't see how these two clowns would unite the country.

I have noticed that Richardson is moving up somewhat, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I think he's a good alternative, and definitely has the experience...but I also thinks he panders on the Iraq issue. That's one of the reasons I prefer Biden - he doesn't just say "this is my plan" but instead puts together a resolution outlining his plan, and brings it forth in the Senate. The reason they lost was because Kerry refused to stand up for himself and because northern Dems cannot win southern states.

Hillary's plan offers competition to the HMO's and the insurance companies, that will lower premiums, co-pays, and deductibles.

I have a question for Obama supporters.

A few months back, there was an AARP forum in Davenport, Iowa. Obama did not attend; instead, he went to a star-powered fundraiser in Atlanta. At the time, I questioned this choice and was told that Obama was not attending any forums that were not specifically sanctioned by the Democratic party as part of the nomination process. I still thought it was a poor strategical move, but I can accept that.

Now, however, I see that there is a forum in Des Moines, IA this weekend. Not all of the candidates are attending, and I have not seen anything about it being sanctioned by the DNC. Yet, Obama is going to be there. Am I missing something on it being sanctioned, or is he no longer sticking by the "DNC-sanctioned events only" policy? If so, when did this change?

You think Senator Clinton is the candidate who can win--if you read all the posts on this site you will see that many people have strong feelings against voting for her. She has the money, endorsements, and savy campaign staff. The question is whether that translates into votes from ordinary citizens in all parts of our country. I think the most accurate answer would be that in the early, debates Obama wasn't pointing out the distinctions as clearly as he is now. As a result, Hillary was 'winning' every one, because her status as #1 was unchanged afterwards. With a million debates on a million different issues, it was politically smart for Obama to opt out rather than give Hillary a million little victories. He really didn't have much to gain from attending them, and his absence was almost more noteworthy. Now, Obama is tightening his rhetoric, and the debates now have the potential to help him more. Additionally, more people are paying attention to the debates now, I'd bet, which if he wants to get his message out.

I think the other thing is that you mentioned that this was a forum and not a debate. Obama has participated in forums, because he seems particularly strong in that setting like the J-J dinner or whatever it was called. There is a difference between a forum and debate. Although the AARP thing was kind of both a forum and a debate, so I might be confused on this issue.

As for the AARP debate, I'm glad you brought that up. I was surprised by how much not attending that debate hurt him, and I have taken a few cracks about that since. I heard over the weekend that the voter divide between Clinton and Obama isn't race nor gender, but age. I, for the life of me, cannot remember where or why I heard this, but the age thing is an obstacle Obama will have to cross. Don't worry though, I think Obama can win over more seniors in his month remaining. He campaigning much more strongly for the non-youth vote than he was before.

It would appear that Obama will participate in debates so long as they are beneficial to him, but that's just good politics ... something I often accuse H.R. Clinton of. And I don't know that I would use the term 'policy' to describe Obama's position about not attending non-DNC-sanctioned debates/forums. Maybe as Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean would say ... 'more like guidelines actually.'

BTW, Edwards won South Carolina and would have won Oklahoma had Wes Clark not been in the race. By the time North Carolina's primary came around, the nomination was decided already anyway. Secondly, not all Southern states are the same. N.C. is much more conservative than Va., La., S.C. and Ark.

I sympathize w/ you my friend. I've voted in 3 prez elections and never voted for the same party twice....so i consider myself pretty moderate.

Merle Stanley, NY: You're wrong about John Edwards: he did win a primary, the SC primary in '04, w/ 45% of the vote. He also garnered more 2nd place finishes than any other candidate. I voted for John in 2000 for senator and would vote for him again for president. I'd prefer him to Hillary- he and Obama are pretty equal to me. This time he has very little shot in SC- you have an Afr. American and a Clinton, who we love (i'm Black), sadly there's no room for him there, even though I don't think any candidate's spoken more forcefully about issues that affect afr. americans, like poverty, than Edwards. Heck- if Chelsea ran I think she'd equal what Edwards'll get in SC this year.

I've said this before but Hillary is part of the old guard. Dems have a schism in their party- the young, very liberal idealists, and the older conservatives. John & Barack represent the young more than Hill. Hill's dems are Dodd and Biden types. What bothers me about Hill is doesn't want to paint herself into that "old guard" corner, and sacrifices candor to do avoid it. I think the party deserves the belief set they want- don't lie to us to make yourself look like something you're not. If the Dems are far left, let them nominate such a candidate. Don't hide your views so as to obscure the differences between the candidates. Hill's general election primary campaign has finally endangered her primary frontrunner status. It's looking more and more like the Dems might actually get the nads to nominated the candidate that represents most of the party, like Dean was, in my opinion, last time. I like Hillary but let's be honest- she wouldn't be a senator w/o her last name, and she wouldn't even be seriously considered for president if she hadn't been first lady. Not that she wouldn't make a competent president- and I happen to think her demeanor "negatives" would acquit her well as prez, as they do for many ambitious women- but she'd be at Dodd numbers w/out the romantic idea of Bill back in the White House running around many Dem heads. BTW- Biden might be the best man for this job on both sides. In another time it'd be probably be McCain vs. Biden- these are the most qualified guys I think.

You hypocrites here that deride Obama for drug use- not even worth further mention. Wow. We know if that was a disqualifier hardly anyone could be president.

I'm happy to see someone mention Duncan Hunter. I think he's pretty solid- I can't figure out why R's haven't embraced him more. He's smart, knows his stuff on trade and nat'l defense. Now that Huckabee has finally gotten the attention he deserves I wish Hunter could too. That said, though he at least attended the Tavis Smiley debate, he along w/ Tancredo refused to recognize problems unique to the Afr. Amer. community, insisting that they don't want to speak about the country in those terms. Well gentleman, the country exists in those terms, even if you don't like it, which is one reason I believe the R's will struggle to win elections going forward unless they nominate moderates like Huck and McCain.

The AARP event was classified as a form. It was at that time that Obama's campaign said they were not going to participate in any forums that were not sanctioned by the DNC. Now, he is.

Your response suggests that he did so because he was being hurt (to some extent) by his performance at the debates and now that he is back in it, he will show up again. If that is the case, that tells me one thing - Obama is business as usual. That's precisely what you would expect a career politician to do - not someone whose entire campaign is based on the politics of hope and bringing change to the way things are done.

I suspected that age had something to do with it. Obama is strongest with younger voters; there probably were not a lot of younger voters in attendance at the AARP forum. He is playing to his strengths; for his campaign, going to the fundraiser in Atlanta was seemingly more beneficial than talking to old Iowa folks about health care.

My beef with this is not that he is leaving out some forums, debates, etc. that he does not perceive to be a big help to his campaign. My beef is that he claims to represent a change in politics, but yet he is doing things the same as everyone else.

There are a lot of talk about the candidates in the democratic run but I have not read any attacking the right wing cult, i.e. you have the penguin, Rush Limbaugh and the Joker Sean Hannity trashing anyone that don't agree with them. I believe that we need to take some time and give them a really hard time.
The right wing talk shows are the spreader of hate and division, they are the voice of the rich and powerfuland those that want to deplete our resorces, they were against increase in wages, against any health care plan, and a question: why do you think they are so in favor of right wing judges, why they are in favor on the military, why they are so in favor of the police, why are they so in favor of the big oil producers, why are they so in favor to keep devastating Iraq, Why they want to attack Iran, why they they are destroying our constitutional rights like liberty and privacy? My friends think about all this and is frightening. I you think that this country of our can't be taking over by an elited government, you are wrong. Right now there are groups in Texas that are preparing individuals for a possible move to an elite radical movement infiltration to continue dislocating our democratic system.
My friends it is time that all of us that that care for this country of our to launch all our energy to combat the right wing.

I don't recall Edwards winning ANY primaries. But, for the sake of this argument, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Even if he did win SC, he didn't win his own home state. Whether the nomination was decided or not by or before then doesn't have anything to do with it. If you can't win your home state, you bring NOTHING to the table.

If Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic Nomination in 2008 it will be a choice between a woman President or another President like Bush. If Hillary or Obama don't get elected President we may not see a woman or African American President getting electing till 20 or 30 years from now. We are overdue for a woman or African American President. In 2008 it is a now or never deal between electing a Woman or African American President. Hillary may have her downfalls but no one can be worst then a crook who stole the election in 2000. Hillary would be much better then any Republican or Bush clone in 2008. People may hate Hillary but if you compare she is an angel compared to Bush. She would be much better then what we have now. The meanings stay the course or change direction really means something now. This election is going to mean a difference between staying the course or changing direction. Good post. For the most part I concur with you and feel the same frustration. I don't actually see them as literal, clinical psychotics but most assuredly as having real and extreme personality disorders: sociopath (Bush), narcissistic (Rice), near psychopath (Rove), and a simply totally self-focused, self-indulgent and greedy (Cheney), all being arrogantly dishonest and boldly without a conscience. Add to that the power they have, knowing that 'power corrupts and total power totally corrupts', and maybe they actually are close to psychotic. That of itself is very frustrating but then now include all of the people who are the 'enablers', without who they couldn't have accomplished anything, and the real frustration and disappointment (often seemingly even depressively hopeless) becomes apparent.

Enablers:
* Those who voted for them, motivated by their self-interests and having simply been manipulated by their own biases while failing to responsibly consider the total picture.
* The Republican Party as a whole who, again motivated by their self-interests, irresponsibly always stubbornly backing them in mass on everything.
* The powerful Special Interests and select few, completely motivated by their self-interests, who contributed the needed finances, backing and manipulation of public opinion (both overt and covert) that so greatly helped.
* The media who reported criticisms, barely, and then let them drop without answers or complete development, simply giving credit to the excuses, rationalizations, subterfuge and the often used encouragement to 'just move on', thereby offering biased reporting and simply contributing to the manipulation of public opinion.

In every case the 'enablers', including those who voted for them, were controlled by their self-interests which resulted in an irresponsible action. The question is, 'could it happen again?' Well when you look at the front runners, it seems to be going in that direction: Rudy Giuliani - questionable ethics and morals, totally self-indulgent and obviously looking for the backing of those who back Bush; Fred Thompson - who has never demonstrated anything other than the will to do others' bidding and take what ever they will give, simply a real 'puppet', following the 'script' and looking for the opportunity to perform; Hillary Clinton - unquestionably another sociopathic personality looking to feed her insatiable ego and willing to do/say whatever she deems necessary to accomplish her goals. And, as I said, they are the front-runners being sold to us daily just as Bush was. There are other candidates that seem to have some real quality, as there was in 2000 & 2004, but again they simply aren't getting the recognition. It is really up to the voters to see through it all, to objectively set their own biases aside and avoid being manipulated, to responsibly consider the total picture and make a conscientious decision. Simply not an easy challenge.

Like yourself, I often feel like 'I am shoveling against the wind' and then I see the emotional , irrational, irrelevant, often even crude and the obvious manipulative planted statements posted and I too wonder what is the use. Not to be the Merle Stanley, NY police, but in a sense Edwards DID win his home state, SC, where he was born, though he grew up mostly in NC and of course was its senator. I don't think it so much his performance at the debates, because I think that he was performing okay (not great, but he certainly wasn't bad). And forums are really strong for him. I think the debates/forums, whatever, really weren't helping him. It's possible that with so many debates/forums on various small topics that were irritating people, he was trying to capitalize on the sentiment--this ones a bit more out there. Yes, I support Obama, that's why I responded to you, but my answer isn't going to be some confabulation to make you feel sorry for him. I personally agree with your statement that this is a case of 'politics as usual.'

I hear that you are disappointed that Barack Obama is a politician, and that he's not some archangel of hope--probably one of the reasons Michelle was trying to humanize him with all of the TMI stories. They are all politicians and the game is to win, and frankly, there is something as being too nice. The trick is to win with your integrity intact. Obama has really made an effort to run a transparent campaign, he releases the financial records he outspokenly feels a campaign should, he is certainly showing restraint to dirty politics and is, in my opinion, respectfully pointing out difference between him and Sen. Clinton, and he is straightforward with his policy positions by doing what he thinks is the right thing rather than being poll-driven or necessarily following conventional wisdom and he defends his opinions. He doesn’t always defend his positions succinctly on-the-spot and is a person who likes to mull over concepts, which is why he probably does better at forums. He’s a thinking man, and that is something that I respect and relate to. So no, he’s not perfect, nobody is, not even me, but I think he is doing a pretty good job at shucking ‘politics as usual’, I think that he does succeed in general at bringing a true change to Washington politics, and I am proud to support him in his endeavor.

I don't think age had anything to do with it, as I believe there are other events he skipped, and capturing older voters is important. Obama is strong on healthcare and he does have good policy for older voters (though I like Biden’s healthcare plan better). He made a blanket exclusion (so not against any one class of people) at the time and has since changed his mind or his campaign did.

I have watched both the Democrate and the Republican debates. I am frustrated that it seems that the media has already decided that Obama and Clinton are the Democrate candidates. I would like to hear from all of the democrate candidates but all I hear is Clinton and Obama. I feel that this is unfair to the voters who are not given a chance to hear from all of the candidates. I think the Republicans candiadtes are given a chance to tell the voters there platform, because there is not a clear front runner. I wish that were true for the Democrate Party debates.

Anyone who thinks Hillary is "radical" has their head...somewhere other than out in the real world. Seems fairly obvious to me that she's straddling the fence, trying to please both sides, which would be fine if she truly believed that both sides have valid ideas, which I don't think she does. Looks to me like she is saying whatever she thinks people want to hear just so she can gain power. She's taking tons of $ from special interests for her campaign and sees nothing wrong with that. She's a typical slick politician and we have enough of those. We need a true leader.

You know why the Repubs (and the MSM which are, of course, controlled by them) are acting as though it's a given that "Hills" will be the nominee? They say it's because they can beat her because so many people dislike her. True enough that she's greatly disliked by folks across the political spectrum, but the Repubs will make sure they fan the flames of that dislike by trying to convince the masses of how "radical" she is. I'm sure they also count on the fact that there are, unfortunately, far too many people out there who want to go with a perceived winner, the attitude being "s/he's going to win anyway, so I might as well vote for him/her in the primary. Why vote for a loser?" Either that, or they think, why bother to vote at all?

However, even if the Repubs can't beat HRC, she is the candidate most likely to make concessions to their agenda, to be as others have said, "Repub lite", so in essence it's a win/win situation for them.

I’m not sure any of what I’m going to write will get through to anyone, but here goes:

Greed and ambition is at its finest in the realm of (current) politics. Not a single one of these people (Republican or Democrat) gives a damn about anything but winning. Really!

Does anyone really think anything will change? The last time this country had anything that resembled change was decades and decades ago. Once, I do believe, great people (Abraham Lincoln, for instance) walked this earth and made significant changes, but that was a long, long time ago. Nowadays it is all about power, greed, and control. Period. If you are buying any of it (current politics) you are just too young to know better, or you smoked way too much wacky weed back in the day.

Obama? Does anyone who thinks he’s a great leader actually pay attention to what he says? Did you actually read his book? I did. As my father would say…”wet behind the ears.” Sorry. Just another wannabe. And yes, his lack of experience *is* an issue. I think of Carter when I listen to this guy. Great ideas and theories, but in need of much seasoning. Heck, everyone knows that Carter became much more helpful to this country *after* office than before. Obama needs to get a grip.

Edwards? Please. Are we forgetting that this is the guy who thinks it’s perfectly normal to pay $400 - $2000 for hair care? (His hairdresser verified this bit of info). Do we really want a health care plan that demands everyone sign up for “the government plan” or prove they are insured elsewhere? Ridiculous. What did Ben say?...Let’s see… “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” A little loosely applied here, perhaps, but tell me exactly how are we to do this? And what’s next? Forced housing, forced transportation? Health care is essential and I do believe everyone deserves equal access, but government-forced plans? and via Medicare? Has anyone noticed that the current (government) system is nothing to write home about either? Sorry, I’m not buying this guy at all.

Hillary? Gosh, I’m a 70's girl and I’d love for this barrier to come down, but she talks out both sides of her mouth ***all the time!*** Fighter, yes. Honesty? She ain’t no Abe, that’s for sure! Besides, taxes in her state do nothing but go up and I don’t see any real improvement. And let’s not forget where she came from (pre-White House). Arkansas…now there’s a “fine example” of government at its best. Give me a break. Not buying her load either.

Joe Biden? He doesn’t have the energy. I saw his response to being called upon to answer in the last televised debate. It screamed “loser” before he even opened his mouth. Waaaahhhh, waaaahhhh. There’s one sure way to convince people they should ignore you and that’s to tell everyone who’s listening that “you are ignoring me!” Sorry, Joe…you are weakened by too *many* years in office.

The rest are not even worth mentioning as far as I’m concerned. I‘ve read all platforms and quite frankly, I don’t believe any dem has what it takes to truly put priorities back in line. Money, and/or power grubbing, or weak….not much to write home about. Sorry Abe. Maybe next time.

As for the Republicans: Just check out the Federalist Society. Then, if you don’t believe that there *is* a real problem with this current outfit…you’re scary and I’ll inform my children to not look directly into your eyes (or theirs).

So what is the answer? It’s simple. US! We need to put away our ever-open checkbooks, stop charging for everything else, ditch our big-A SUV’s, find housing we can afford, and begin to educate our children that we’ve all been duped (all the way back to great-grandmother/father). Then we need to show them how to avoid getting trapped themselves!

We also need to teach them that, no, we actually cannot continue to bulldoze down trees faster than they can replenish themselves and expect them to continue to cool us, clean our air, and help make rain.

We need to teach them that, no, we don’t *actually need* every flipping new gadget that comes on the market (and help create yet another gazillionaire). Our lives are easy enough as evidenced by our big fat behookies (my son’s word for bottoms).

We need to teach them that no, living a thousands of miles from our families, with one or both parents traveling constantly in order to keep the $$$ rolling in so we can buy even more crap we don’t need…really *isn’t* the best arrangement for solid communities.

We need to teach our children to understand that love, commitment, and compassion are all that really matters. Tell them that it isn’t important what they look like, but who they are and then *act* in accordance. (For instance: Britney, Paris, and Nicole are spoiled brats who don’t appreciate what they have and we don’t want them (our children) to wind up like they are).

We also need to turn off the damn TV! It’s sucking the life, resources, and very will out of this country/world. No seriously! Try *not* watching it for one month. Then turn it back on to see how you feel. You’ll notice right away an almost sickening sensation. I am nearly 100% TV free (exception…public broadcasting) and loving it. I am no longer a slave to an obsessive need to unplug from reality. Granted…I do have more time to *think*. But I find that my robotic reactions are subsiding and I actually enjoy my life! You might like TV*free*land , Sam I am! Try it and you might say, I don’t need this crap…anyway!

Lastly, we must tell them that they shouldn’t always believe everything they hear or read...one must always do their homework. Think, read, listen, and think some more! I’m pretty sure the space between our ears was meant for more than basic functions.

Finally, for those of us older ones, who will clearly suffer from our conditioned glutinous, lazy, self-centered behavior. Hold on. The next few years are going to be a doozie!

Nothing in the Constitution says that a person who goes to church and has religious values is crossing that line. The problem lies in those who think their religious tenets and practices are the only ones with any validity, think everyone should believe what they believe, and that if everyone doesn't then they should make laws that will at least favor their religion over others, if not actually force belief. THAT is crossing the line of separation.

Likewise, the founding fathers also stated that a person's religion or lack thereof is not to be used as a criteria for deeming them worthy or unworthy of office.

Furthermore, claims that the US was "founded as a Christian nation" are flat out wrong. If that were the case there would be specific provisions in the Constitution establishing Christianity as the official state religion instead of what we find in the First Amendment. The founding fathers happened to be Christians, but they knew that non Christians could have ethical values similar to theirs and believed in others' rights to choose for themselves what to believe.

And may I add that I am heartily sick of hearing that anyone who disagrees with the Christian extremist viewpoint on this hates Christians and that the Christians are being "persecuted." Oh, PLEASE! I don't hate Christians, per se, I just hate that smug superiority so many of them exhibit.

I agree that we don't need the opinions of most celebrities on many topics just because they're "celebrities" but to question intelligience based on level of education is simply not validated in any way by history. If you take a good look through history you will see that a high school dropout engineered the first space(shuttle, or one of the appollos?help me out knowledgeable people-you must know this) & I'm confident we can find a book of amazing discoveries, inventions, etc that high school drop-outs like Thomas Edison are credited with. Does anybody know that Elijah Gray actually created the first TELEPHONE as we know it today? Alexander Graham Bell only had an amplification device for his hard of hearing parents & simply beat Elijah to the patent office. Now, look at our current country's "Bleader" in chief(pronounced "Bleeder"; of our trillion $ surplus that just one, now 2, terms previous, William Jefferson Clinton left us with, with all his/their faults-you all are forgetting to mention all the wonderful things Bill & Hillary have already done for our country. Bush's IQ-go ahead-see if you have the intelligience to find that information. I dare you-how much education did his family's & thence his money pay for him to have such a low IQ?
And, the other one about Bill's BJ-the right wingers (not me!) were willing to impeach a man for an indiscretion that he "lied" about to save his wife's & daughter's feelings? Am I wrong about that? You tell me. I listened to you, Neil Young, when I was very impressionable & still do reverently & I used to really love the Allman Brothers until I realized the line in their song referring to Neil Young's song "Southern Man", which suggests to the southerners that they better "change at last" (sad to say the change still hasn't come, North or South, & when I say North & South-that also includes East & West, but many positive changes did come out of that movement so don't let anybody tell you you wasted your time)& refers to the horrors our black brothers & sisters & who knows how many others, endured/endure the days of cross burnings, church burnings, etc with little children in Sunday school murdered!, says "a southern man don't need him around anyhow" referring to Neil Young. Maybe the Allman Brothers can tell me if they've changed their minds about this or why they feel/felt that way. maybe because not all southern people are cross-burners, either? Last one-oops broke my promise-good thing I'm not a politician. Has no one out there ever had to break just one promise because of S.N.A.F.U.s? How many then? Liars? Hypocrites? Per my last post if it posts, my "white" great-aunt (2 doctorates, Phys-Ed & Doctor of Psychology, never married, no children, had an offer by a prince once but he refused to let her continue her work as a military psychiatrist or any other work & she couldn't bear to give up working with the veterans/war veterans. She was given a testimonial dinner by the NAACP in Delaware for founding one of the first Head Start Programs in area of Dover, DE or thereabouts & whose Doctoral thesis proved that children must have at least "X" amount of square footage (I think was at least where their elbows do not touch was the measure & that was about 1-2.5 square feet beyond their bodies-when I get the testimonial book back from my aunt>I'll confirm the space but sad it took one woman a whole lot of time & energy that this was not just common sense to the GP/educators of the time) & cannot be squashed into classrooms and expected to learn at the same rates as children placed in smaller classrooms. Point-I am so sick of the bigots still remaining in this country and the world, and if you don't like it here-you leave-not me/us. The rest of us are trying to make the changes we believe in by living our words daily. By the way, does anyone realize that if you don't get married, you will collect both Social security checks if they are still available when we are that age? That is perfectly legal & not at all greedy-you/we've earned it. Don't let the "tabu" make us forget the benefits of remaining betrothed and not "legally" married! Look in the bible where "stronger than marriage is betrothal". makes sense even if it is all parables! Of course setting one's mind to something will be more binding than ink on paper. of course, having medical benefits and tax breaks now may be more helpful, depending on your age & tax situation. And, from my father & his friends, I can assure you many gays will make excellent parents, the ones I've seen are so careful not to stigmatize their children or teach their children to hate, stigmatize & mistreat others-doubtful except for the meanest of queens-are all straight parents perfect? Must let you know in case my previous posted that I do believe in equal rights, including the right to marry for all men & women, including gay men & women even though I already mentioned that my homosexual father did not come out of the closet but was caught out-of-the closet & pretty much ruined my mother's life in her mind-she was never able to trust another man. I didn't want to see him for years & then I grew up & realized that most of us do try to make the best decisions for all involved at the time we are making the decision even if we feel later that was a big mistake. In that day & age he felt he had to stay in the closet not to shame himself, his family, friends, children, & to provide for us & not be beaten to death daily & not to be so ashamed of himself so he could still function & excel in a "Tunnel vision" society for the most-part & they really did love each other very strongly & share so many wonderful ideals, like live & let live, and lived them didn't just preach them & he tried, oh, how he tried not to be homosexual. (My observations, not brain-washing by mom or dad). If you want a candidate with the experience to both win the election and lead this country you should take a look at Chris Dodd.
I am supporting him because as a senator for 26 he has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of every American. He wrote and passed the Family Medical Leave Act and he has been a great friend to the Environment. He is also the only candidate who promises to bring the troops home from Iraq in his first term.

Dot From Illinois: the fact is that this elections is not a game and that if we feel that we don't like Hilary that is a personal matter. We can not afford the luxury of because we don't like Hilary not vote for her. The first step is to take back the white house and Clinton is the best chance that we have. Obama can be her replacement in the event she is not what we expect from her; he will be in a better position for the 2012.
Liking her or not, our goal is to take back the WH.
A good politician will use "double Talk" so as to distract the adversary. I have over 30 years experience in the field and double talk works. However the media is a business and they need to make money and they need to hit on the Hilary double talk because they need to keep the emotions rolling.
As an strategist's opinion, Hilary is on the right track in using double talk; a gambler does not show his/her cards but only those that they believe that can distract others on the table. I hope that I am not wrong but if I know Hilary's game, she is doing the right thing. Remember is not what she is saying but what she will do after the fact.

So that in 2012, when things are no better than they are now, and maybe worse, we can have her be a 1-termer and end up with another Re-puke-lican in office. Keep in mind that if she tries to put in place some of the crap policies she's talking about (no Re-puke-lican in their right mind will be part of some bi-partisan committee to study anything she puts forward; they'd rather rip their own skin off than work for a Clinton), you'll see the Congress switch hands in 2010 a la Bill in 1994. She is THAT hated by the other side of the aisle.

You need to think more than just taking back the WH. You need to think about the ramifications of WHICH Democrat is sitting in the Oval Office--one that has some chance of, and HAS had success working on bi-partisan legislation, or one that has Re-puke-licans spitting at the utterance of her name--when you stand in the voting booth and vote.

I will NOT be taking the chance that we end up right back where we started in four short years. I cannot in good conscience allow that to happen. I cannot vote for Hillary Clinton. You're just giving everything back to the Re-puke-licans, whether it be now when their candidate wins, or in four years when she's done nothing to improve the country.

I changed light bulbs and insulated a basement with John Edwards and his wife and his children in PA....he did this to help conserve energy for a retired woman living in Wilkes Barre, PA. He did this without any media there video taping it, without any media to witness the entire event. Why would any presidential candidate do this? Because he cares about the people and he cares about the real issues of real people. If you are going to vote please go to all of the candidates websites and compare all of the detailed plans they have laid out and make your choice off of that. I know after you do this, your choice will be clear...EDWARDS in 2008. He is the only candidate with clear cut plans on how he would unite this country and make it a better place to live...
