Come on folks it all depends on what the meaning of the words “Deliberately”, “False” and “Information”. And to think the Republicans wanted to impeach Clinton for parsing the word “is”.

In reality people either have to believe everything President Bush says, or nothing, He has accomplished this unique form of polarization which in and by it’s self wouldn’t be possible had he and his campaign made such a big deal out of “Straight Talk”.

My fear is the Average American voter will learn a false lesson. Politics and governance is about bargaining. Effective bargaining requires a certain degree of posturing and yes parsing. The lesson should be that we must expect capable politicians to engage in careful speech and if someone claims to be a straight talker they are either incompetent or a more effective liar.

To date this administration lied its way into office, lied to start a war, lied on the status of the war, lied to keep the war going. lied about illegal domestic wiretapping, lied about the severity of the threat Al Qeada posed, lied about its reasoning for firing US attorneys, lied about outing a CIA operative, lied about its preparedness for Katrina, and countless others...yet remains politically untouchable. How is this even possible? The political cowardice displayed in regards to challenging this administration's avarice towards the truth by Pelosi, Reid et al is not only disturbing but embarassing and should make any real democrat ashamed that we blindly supported and believed them. I hope our next President will restore some sembalance of dignity and respectability to Washington politics.

Naples brings up an interesting point. I became friends with some 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language' or TEFL Masters Degree students from Russia. One night we were discussing Kennedy and they all wanted to know if I thought the KGB killed him. I said I thought it was a plot closer to home, though I wasn't sure exactly who did it. They said that the Russians liked Kennedy and had planned on a long and relaxed relationship with him, and then his brother Robert. They said something interesting, that being they thought it was a Mobster hit, something the History Channel says did happen, Frenchmen from Marseilles, contract hitters. The Russians said it seemed for revenge, as it would have been bad for business. But I said he was taking us out of Vietnam and that might have been construed as bad for business. Nixon kept us there long enough to add 30,000 KIA to the wall, that was good for business, at least for some businesses. So Kennedy's Assasination remains a mystery to me, completely revenge, or strictly business? Just an Independent's thought.

Kenn, the Senate does not vote to impeach. The House votes to Impeach, which is akin to a grand jury voting to indict a criminal defendant. Then, it is in the Senate where the trial to determine whether or not to remove the president based on the allegations contained in the articles of impeachment approved by the House.

I voted for Bush during his second term and voted for Gore during the first election and I should not have voted for Bush for his second term. What I failed to realize was that Bush is not smart enough to be president. I beleive that religion and money should never be in politics. I am not for taking the word God off the money or out of the pledge or any of that nonsense but religion and money should never mix together in anything not just politics. I think we are all in agreement that no matter who is President that we do not expect them to know everything, but we expect them to know enough people who know enough things to keep this country down the right path. In Bush's case the people he knows are all ultra right wing conservative religious nutjobs and zealots who you cannot reason with and the only competant people he knows are from his fathers admin with the excpetion of Cheney. For a President contantly running out of the shadow of his famous and more worldly father he is forcing himself to distance himself from anyone associated with his father and that is a bad way to run a country. You are supposed to take the best at what they do from either party and make the best decisions possible politics should be left at the entrance to the oval office and anyone with valuable points of view should be heard. This President has sealed himself off from reason and surrounded himself with Bible toting rednecks and religious zealots. In eight years we have made it ok to be wrong but reasoned it away with "thats's ok as long as we stick to our guns" logic. Any thread like this, including this one will always contain several entries from the folks on the right bringing up Bill Clinton’s personal life. Clinton did lie about a personal indiscretion and had other personal problems that were in fact wrong and he should not have done that. However, while the right was shouting from the rooftops “Clinton Lied, Clinton Lied”, his lies were at worst embarrassing, and were in no way connected to death, destruction, international conflicts, national security breeches, war profiteering, or other issues much greater than embarrassment. The Bush administration (all of them) has elevated political lies to a whole new level and made deception their specialty, yet the so called liberal media and most other politicians are afraid to expose those deceptions for what they are, LIES. As an aside, Bush did not say that anyone involved in the Plame leak would be fired, he said that there was no place in his administration for anyone who committed a crime. I thought this was a strange statement since when he said it, he had quite a few convicted criminals in his administration. Along these lines, the deception started when he first took office in 2001 and decided to side step the Presidential Records Act. Several members of his administration were involved in improper activity as members of the Reagan administration. If these records became public in 2001 as they should have under the Presidential Records Act, the public would have known what types of criminals were running the Whitehouse back then.

In !998 Tom Delay's House approved 2 articles of impeachment; perjury (228-206) and obstruction of justice (221-212). In 199 the GOP-controlled senate acquited him of both charges. With only 45 votes the the perjury article failed, and the obstuction of justice article only drew a 50/50 vote with a 2/3 majority needed. Consequently he was never removed from office and served his full second term to the end.

That statement is a lie. President Bush has knowingly passed on false information.

Bush told us we don't torture. We do.

Bush told us no one could have foreseen using airplanes to attack America. Turns out there was a memo that exposed that possibility.

Bush told us no one could have anticipated the levees breaching in New Orleans. In fact, they were advised of that. Heck, the SF Chronicle had a huge piece on it days before the hurricane hit.

The Bush administration sold the prescription drug benefit as costing only $400 billion when they knew it would cost $551 billion.

Remember when Bush told us those trailers were evidence of bio-weapons labs? Turns out a team told them the contrary days before he said that. Despite evidence to the contrary, Bush continued to make the claim.

So, if this evidence stands then Bush has, in fact, lied. I welcome critical evaluation.
