I have to laugh at those who believe the democrats are for the "little guy". They portray Republicans as being for corporations and the rich. Those two groups made more money when Bill Clinton was president than they have under any GOP administration. Bottom line is that the top 1% of taxpayers pay 59% of the federal tax bill today even after Bush's so called tax cuts for the rich. I am in the middle class but it seems to me they are paying their fair share already. Beware if the democrats control the house, senate and presidency. Here is what you will see. Massive Federal tax increases and major increases in the Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid tax, rollback and increases in capital gains and death taxes, amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens in our country, National Health Care that will cripple our economy and cause rationing of health care, UN control over US interests, liberal court appointments, anti-religion court decisions, expansion of abortion rights and options, gay marriage rights, expansion of government control in all areas of business, commerce and personal/moral issues, crippling environmental controls on our businesses while developing countries have none (Kyoto Treaty)causing US job losses, massive shifts in federal tax expenditures away from the military and infrastructure to our ever failing public education institutions, (teachers and professors make more now than they ever have and our global educational ranking continues to fall as do our test scores and basic reading, writing and math skills), welfare and social services that have done nothing to reduce poverty, continued decline in moral/ethical social behaviors, sin taxes will be added to beer, wine and alcohol purchases fot help pay for massive deficit spending on health care and as tax revenues fall due to income tax increases (the wealthy will move away from investing to tax sheltering) taxes will be rasied further to make up for those shortfalls. Wew need only look at Europe for an example. Most countries there are socialistic. They have massive income and property taxes, sin taxes, gas and utility taxes (some near 80% taxation) and as a result they have 0% growth economies, double digit unemployment, heatlh care rationing and they are now looking at what we do to try and "fix" the mess their socialistic policies have created. They are actually exploring getting out of health care etc.. to reduce taxes, spur growth and reduce unemployment. The "Dems" want to follow their examples... Remember tax revenues go down under dems because they reaise taxes thereby reducing investment. Government receipts tripled under both Reagan and Bush II following their tax cuts. The problem for Reagan was constant compromise with the dems in congress kept spending too high and Bush has failed to deliver on reducing the size of govt. as he'd hoped to do. As for those crying Bush doubled the deficit, Clinton's reduction or balanced budget came because the GOP congress's "Contract with America" to balance the budget (the first time the GOP had been in control since the 50's) would not let him spend like he wanted to spend. We in Wisconsin have a democratic governor who spends like there is no tomorrow and our deficit has doubled under him because he can't tax us the way he would like to, not because he is doing anything to reduce the size of governement.

My working class family did very well during the 90's under Clinton.(by the way I hated him while I was in the service USMC 94-98) Working families and American corporations both did well during his time. I think there's something to J Q Public's post about splitting the republican party. I think you could do the same for the democrats. It just kills me that each party has part of what i believe, but also a lot of things I can't stand. The republicans (in theory, not so much in practice these days) believe in small government, low taxes, basically the free market and individual economic choice. I like that. But I hate starting wars against countries who have not attacked us. that is criminal and if the rest of the world wasnt intimidated by us they would all say so! might does not make right. i hate entitlement programs and any form of the so-called redistribution of wealth which is just stealing from some to give to others who have not earned it. it ruins any economy to the extent it is done. on the other hand i am an environmentalist who believes the most important thing is to preserve our earth. i dont want any wacky born-again believers telling the rest of us what to believe. this country was not founded by fundamentalists, just read thomas jefferson and james madison. i sincerely doubt either of them could be elected today due to the influence of america's version of islamic fundamentalism, the religious right. and that is very sad as none of the current candidates come close to matching those two's intellectual firepower.

Wait, what? Are you seriously suggesting that we hadn't invaded Iraq already before Bush became president!? I lost three friends to the war in Iraq before Bush became president, when Clinton was in office, back when it was called a battle instead of a war but was still the exact same actions we're doing now. And to say that there would be no WMD discussions is ridiculous, since we already were having them long before him. That should be more than apparent, especially since the intelligence regarding the weapons was obtained before Bush ever came into power, and Bush used that prior evidence in his declarations (evidence proven to be factual, what with the 38 jets found hidden and multiple chemical traces leading into the desert). We know there were WMD's, it was known before he took office and it's known now, shown on all sides by all parties. That part shouldn't even be a debate anymore. Not much is different between the actions over there during the Clinton years and the Bush years, the nation's focus became driven to Iraq because of the media. One president chose not to talk about it much, and the media didn't pay much attention to the tens of thousands of soldiers and sailors over there, while this president changed the title to war to allow better funding and shine more focus on the issue, bringing out the media whores. Actions overseas are the EXACT same, it's the actions and politics here that are about the only thing different.
