Finally, spirited and with fire. Huckabee came alive, Thompson was straight to the point, Mc Cain regained some strength, Gulianni treaded water (but with too many New York references) Hunter improved his standings, Tancredo dissappeared even more,and Romney stumbled. Paul furthered cemented his psychotic demise. Maybe if we took a little of all the candidates (excluding Paul) we could mold a good Presidential hopeful that would be a pale Reagan impersonator and even that would be better than Hillary or Osama uh Obama. The fire has been rekindled after last night now who will step up and be the leader who we can get on fire for?

The Washington Post calls the YouTube debate “the most spirited debate of the 2008 presidential campaign.”

well of course; for one thing the GOP doesn't have a woman running for president, so people can exchange ideas and debate, unlike the liberals, who have to be careful about going after Hillary and being called a bully for picking on a girl.

The only reason liberal debates are entertaining is because their girl can't decide which side of the issue she is on without giving five answers.

Huckabee did well, the other's need to step up their game a little bit. They only thing that bothered me was the talk about college for immigrants. If they are citizens here that's fine. But there should be no federal money of any kind for anything that has to do with illegal aliens. And Fred was right, the little "sanctuary cities" really need to have their federal funding cut off as of today. No room in America if you are not willing to play by the rules.

Huckabee's a lot smarter than he's given credit for and not just for one liners. While I don't agree with him on some of his positions, he brings a lot to this race that has turned so nasty. Of course, he's coming up in Iowa. They've seen a lot of him and like what they see. You can do wonders being pleasant and nastiness is a turnoff.

Loser last night was Romney. Too slick, too rehearsed and came over as untrustworthy. Mc Cain's another one I greatly admire, but the Iraq stance hurts, but if the body count keeps going down, who knows?

**Gigolo Rudy 'G' tell everyone that many people think he accomplished great things as Mayor of NY. Then he defined "many people" as being George Will, who is nothing more than the Rush Limbaugh of the print media world.

***Mitt Romney go off on a tangent about John Edwards when asked about the Confederate Flag. (Edwards had NOTHING to do with what was being discussed.)

****Fred Thompson decry the Stars and Bars which, rumor has it, he used to display at his house, and on the vehicle he drove around DC when he was in The Senate.

There is no god, as last night's debate amply demonstrated. At least not a benevolent one. If there were, we would not be confronted with a choice among knaves when what we need is a knight. While each of the candidates said one or two things that made sense, each undid himself by transparently posturing on one or another hot button item, saying things that are demonstrably whacky in order to be approved by some block of one dimesnional voters. Times are tough. We need someone whose grasp of things makes for fundamental self assurance. We need Napoleon. Keep this up, and we get Josephine.

Fred just looks and sounds so TIRED. Rudy's nasty persona shone through last night. He could play the GRINCH on Broadway, without make-up! Mitt never has a hair out of place, but we saw him squirm and SWEAT. Huck was smooth and personable, charming and humorous, (but still doesn't have a pot to y'know what in) let's see what happens now that the other guys will be forced to take him seriously. When McCain talks about torture, he's the McCain of 2000, when he compared S-CHIP to funding a study of bear DNA, he was the McCain who has become a marginal candidate.

In order,these represent those actively supporting Hillary,Edwards,Obama and Obamas campaigns. Had FOX NEWS performed such cheap stunts in front of a Democrat debate,the howls would be heard inside the Van Allen Belt,with either Helen Thomas or Keith Olberman leading the lynch mob. Giuliani- Has no business espousing leadership or good decision making.
Hickabee- Believes in creationism. Enough said.

No wonder CNN gave him the opportunity to ask his question about homosexuals serving in the military again and again.

CNN is a disgrace, an absolute joke to journalism. To have one mistake, okay that could happen. But to have multiple breeches of etiquette, now that is systemic. With communications being what they are today, any fabrication of so-called information can be found out on a moments notice. Ask Dan Rather for details on how that works. CNN is fabricating the news along with the environment for how news is collected and presented to the public. It's okay to have a passive bias one way or the other, it's human nature. But CNN is either actively presenting a biased view, or ignoring any types of safeguards to at least minimize presenting a biased viewpoint.

The things the CNN is doing are exactly what the Democrats accuse Fox News of doing. Fox News though is the epitome of virtue compared to CNN. If ever the Democrats were brave enough to show up on Fox, you would hope Fox would at least put safeguards in place to prevent the plants that keep showing up on CNN.

Well I will try to get this posted here, since it was not posted in another thread.

I think the pundits and talking heads need to get off this train of Iowa being all about niceness. That's not it at all. Iowans want people who are genuine. (This is, incidentally, one of the reasons Hillary is having a tough time here.) We recognize that there are certain situations which compel anger, fury, outrage, etc. - and we are okay with that. We would rather see genuine responses from a candidate than have them paste on a fake smile and offer up sunny soundbites - even if those genuine responses are tinged with anger.

I really wish the D.C. types would stop telling everyone what Iowans want when they themselves have yet to figure it out. Here's a clue - we are no different from the rest of the country. We want a candidate who is the real deal. Sometimes the real deal involves getting angry, sometimes it involves laughing, sometimes it involves being able to say "I just don't know." We appreciate the genuine far more than the nice. There is a big difference.

People don't like to say this, but the only candidate on either side of the aisle who seems to connect with the true sentiment of the nation is Dr. Paul. Let's face it, the debacle in Iraq has been a horrible joke played on us all. Why is it so wrong to say that Bush and his cronies got it wrong? Are we so fearful of having elected a man (twice) who messed things up? Are we that afraid of admitting that WE, as Americans, were wrong? Come on, folks, it's time to stop the madness. We need to get out of Iraq, we need to redirect our interests and our trade arrangements so that they are fair and beneficial to us, and we need a non-interventionist foreign policy (not an isolationalist one, as McCain falsely accused Dr. Paul of having). I've checked at three different sources (including CNN and MSNBC), and in both cases the PEOPLE seem to think that Paul fared better than the rest last night. He doesn't get much airplay, but when he does, he maximizes it and keeps his strict constitutional stance the focus. Dr. Paul wants to revitalize and yes REVOLUTIONIZE our political system. Given the pork and the problems that persist from one president to the next, what is so wrong with that?

Check out his web site, check out his platform. READ what he wants to do. And for those who say his views are too radical, too far reaching, too "kooky", why do you also foolishly think he would acvutally be able to DO all of what he believes needs to be done? He wants to CHANGE politics as they are being conducted, and I can think of NO person who can adequately defend the way politics are conducted now. If you think he's going to upset the system too much and make radical sweeping changes,we do have a means to keep his views on the table for discussion but also in the realm of what is "do-able". After all, isn't that why we have a Congress?

It would be nice to have someone represent our country that didn't sound like they grew up w/out any teeth or shoes. Maybe we could have one that sounds and is a little educated. Someone that can pronounce the word NUCLEAR maybe.

CNN should be ashamed of themselves for the deplorable choice of questions they aired. The so called candidates need to re-examine their stands on all the issues. Every single one of them made some stupid comments, i.e., getting rid of the IRS, North American union conspiracy, what we've done in Iraq is the right thing, etc. I consider myself an independent, however, most of the time I vote Republican, although I could not vote for Bush the last time. This time, sad to say, I agree with that woman who said after last evening she thinks Edwards is making a lot of sense to her.
