Clearly, the Clinton attack machine will need to target Obama hard, diverting a good portion of her vast resources away from GOPers. In addition, Clinton will treat the (personality wise) appealing Obama to a nice mud bath before leaving him face down in the Potomic. Her absolute brutality directed towards a fellow dem will no doubt irritate many Obama/Oprahites and a number of independents. She will then face the GOPer in a more financially depleted/good will depleted position than her calculus suggested. As opposed to her GOP rival, Hillary is uniquely vulnerable to this perception due to her very high unfavorables..in other words, at the critical time she should be enhancing "likeability" she will be doing the opposite.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but this whole election process has become nothing but an expensive , high stakes shell game. Have we seen more return for our taxes or less? Has our influence as indiviuals over government policies diminished or grown? For the most part, when it comes to MACRO issues like the Iraq war, government spending and oversight the United States has become something like a giant Cruise ship. The everyday person is just along for the ride. We're allowed to eat, drink and be merry just as long as we stay out of the engine room. It doesn't matter who is at the wheel, whether Republican or Democrat because neither is really charting the course. Ours is a country that is controlled and manipulated by folks who aren't even on the ship. For instance even we don't print our money which is one of the hallmarks of sovreignity!!! We need to wake up and discover who is really running this ship!

Obama is doing triple jumps, but the whole package is missing. He's all talk no walk. Sure he's fine on the stump when he's surrounded by his fans, but when he's put on the spot during debates where he's forced to answer questions he stumbles and falters.

Hillary has been a senator for seven years. She's smart and concise and she knows how to bring it. She has the whole package "triple jumps" and all, the whole package.

Having just finished reading Barak Obama’s autobiography, “Dreams from My Father” I wholeheartedly agree with Maureen Dowd’s opinion in Saturday’s (March 18) Rutland Herald. I would highly recommend Howard Dean’s getting off his duff and (as she suggested) approaching this guy as a democratic presidential candidate. Right now the democrats are floating around with no agenda and no viable candidates, at least none that I can see. You can’t win elections by being sycophants for the republicans.

I started watching obama very closely after the 2004 convention keynote address and became a supporter after I read the 2002 transcript of his anti-war speech. I have faith in this man and will def vote for him when given the chance. I was afraid that the country would not echo my feelings but these numbers are starting to make his nomination seem like a very real possibility.

Here's the part I love in all this anti-Hillary whatnot going around right now.

Roughly 2100 delegates are needed in the Democratic nomination process to win the nomination.

Here's the part that sucks for everyone silly enough to support a repug or someone other than Hillary: Florida, even with only half it's delegation, New York, California, and Massachusets, all almost established and completed victories for HIllary in 08, gets Hillary to half of the delegation needed for nomination; that's only 5 states out of the union. What happens when she holds onto her leads in both New Hampshire and South Carolina? Damn, suddenly she only needs roughly 4 states along the coast to vote in her favor, and the nomination is locked up.

Sorry Hillary haters, but she is insurmountable in all of the actual important states. So, with a very fond adieu, I can't wait to copy and paste this for all of you poor, misguided souls soon.

I'm often one to say we shouldn't over-react to polls, because if one thing is true of them, their numbers change. But as you get closer to the day, their significance increases - I know, I know, master of the obvious.

We're not close yet, but gettting there. The biggest thing I've seen in these numbers is an inability of Edwards to move. Forget New Hampshire, as that's a terrible state for him. But given his headstart in Iowa and ties to SC, his numbers in both aren't great right now.

I know he has to ride this out through Iowa, just to take a shot at something big happening there. And he has to focus his efforts on trying to make that happen. He has to win that caucus, and probably can't even survive a close win. But he probably needs to win South Carolina, too, just to give his campaign the bump it would need to then transition into a national campaign.

In some ways, Biden and Richardson almost seem in better position to pull the phoenix thing, like Huckabee. Edwards seems to have gotten the worst of both worlds - he's not fresh, getting covered as a sorta front runner for a year, and he's not organized, getting the resources of someone who is only moderately above the other second tier candidates.

OK. I can't believe I have to write these words when even a very simple Google search would discredit these baseless accusations. But here goes.

Regarding the Pledge of Allegiance issue: The candidates are not reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in that photo, a fact which has now been universally acknowledged by everyone involved. So, end of story, end of issue. Stop repeating Republican (or more likely Clinton) talking points, especially when they're so easily refuted.

Regarding the swearing-in using the Koran: Ummm, I'm pretty sure you're just making this up, but it could be that you're ignorant enough to be confusing Obama with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who is in fact a Muslim and was sworn in on a Koran. Either way, you have no business posting to a site like this if you don't know what you're talking about.

ed, did you ever stop to think that rove did that in an attempt to hurt obama against the democratic electorate?

they have decades of ammunition against hillary and not just her husband. in the 80's and 90's hillary was directly involved in some very high profile scandals.

in a general election the republicans stand a better chance of knocking off hillary because of her past sins so to say. the republicans would really have to grasp for straws against obama, richardson, edwards or biden.

on the last 4 i mentioned they would only have voting records, accomplishments and ideaology. no dirt. hillary has a ton of skeletons in her closet that would offset the dirt that is coming out about the republicans easily.

the independent vote could be lost if hillary wins. just a possiblity. i am an independent that is undecided. we like the rest of you have forums as well and she is not well liked in independent circles. we just don't get the publicity that registered dem's and repub's get.

hillary has a long list of unethical and dirty practices that will be bought to the national publics attention that some have forgotten and some don't know that could propel the republicans not only to another term in the white house, but give back the majority in the senate and house as well.

i submit to you that the republicans want hillary to win. the partisan politics will hit a level you have never seen. so in the process of finalizing your decision you may want to consider that she could cost you more than the presidency.

hillary has over 2 decades of very dirty laundry. she is tough and strong, but so was richard nixon. richard was also experienced.

just something to think about from one voter to another.

It's PATHETIC that folks in this great land of opportunity, THE Unites States of America, still can't stand to see certain people get a fair and honest hearing without looking to first cast aspersions or resort to the "race card."

Many of these same folks spewing much of this vitriol would be the first ones to say "I'm not racist, I have black friends etc., etc. I'm just making a point." WHATEVER! For some reason the truth just has a way to make some folks get extremely defensive.

Let Oprah endorse the person she wants. Chuck Norris is supporting Huck, Curt Schilling is supporting McCain, Streisand's on board with Clinton, etc.

The problem here is that the ICON of daytime television happens to be a trusted, and admired woman of color that transcends race. Certain people just HATE the fact that she's chosen to support someone that just happens to be a very educated, selfless, inspiring person of color as well.

Some people in America wonder why race is still an issue...look no further than the blogoshpere where people can reveal their true colors without fear of reprisal. SAD and PATHETIC!

Wake up people and let's move to heal our country's divide and restore our position in the global community.

The jelousy and arrogance of Hillary supporters is suprising.

If Hillary was not Clinton's wife would she have won the NY senate seat right after re-locating from Arkansas? Would she be in the running for the nomination if she were not the spouse of an ex-president?

I respect all the other candidates in the Dem Party who got where they are on their own merit.

In fact as a liberal the claim that Hillary represents a break through for all women is very insulting to me because she did not earn her current status on her own. She is hiding behind the good parts of her husbands legacy.

Evidence abounds that the Clintons seem to always repeat the same mistakes so I expect that her presidency would be once again over-taken by scandal and that she would spoil the chance of leadership for other more capable women.

hey dan, i have a question for you. edwards has been saying all the things he would do for everybody. i would like to know how is he planning on paying for all of it with america having a 10 trillion dollar deficit? you can't promise everyone everything. some tough decisions have to be made. the things he has been saying are so different from his term as senator. he sounds good, but he won't give detailed plans on social security (how much he would raise the cap). like hillary he has said he would mandate healthcare insurance. how would he stop the poor or part of the middle class from suffering legally if they can't afford the mandate? i need to hear facts and plans. i listen to edwards and clinton crticize obama, but obama has been the only one to give details on social security and healthcare. it is easy to criticize when your plan isn't out their to compare.

example hillary-(healthcare)i would convene a bipartisan commision because it will take that to be successful at doing it? (telling me nothing)

edwards-(healthcare)-obama doesn't mandate it so it won't cover everyone. (telling me nothing)

hillary-(social security)obama social security cap raise won't solve the problem. hillary won't say what she would do. not even if she would or would not raise the cap. she has taken the view that the that social security isn't that bad off. a republican point of view.

edwards-(social security)would raise the cap up to possibly 200,000. kudo's on this.

i am not knocking john i like him, but i see a lot that makes me wonder. one of them being $400. haircuts. if you can be for the poor how can your image be so lavish?

i haven't decided. i am starting to eliminate some candidates on both sides. the repulican elimination is easy. they only have 2 that i would even consider seriously.

to sean from long island, i suggest to you that you are very wrong about us voting because of a name. as an independent we are far more intellectual than as to not vote because of a name.

you insult our intelligence and so does anyone that thinks that way. we look at the candidate completely. if you check into the independent thought i think you would be shocked as to who the majority of independents see as the agent of change.

you are right about one thing though. democrats need the independent vote to win the presidential election, we don't have to vote in the primary so democrats better select the right nominee or we could slide to the republican side. the republicans don't have but 2 candidates that we would possibly support(the majority of us anyway).

i would suggest that you are way off in your thinking about obama an the independent vote. there are 4 democratic candidates that we are truly hoping for. obama is one of them. so you should check out the independent ground swell before attempting to represent our thinking.
