As someone that attended the NH rally, I must say Howard Fineman doesn't know what he is talking about. Obama brought the house down last night. He made a compelling argument and every body stood up towards the last 2 minute of the speech. He was in a different realm and was passionate about the future of America.

Every one in attendance including the Gov of NH were all clapping and were all in awe. Here is how one of the reporters from Boston put it “ I have been to some of his rally where he looks more like a professor but tonight …Obama was more like a Baptist Preacher and he brought the whole house down"

Fineman is widely recognized to be in the pockets of Hill-Billy. Considering his story is out-numbered 10 to 1 with people who think Obama hit the nail on the head, along with Oprah at his side, speaking honesting, and calling on women not to vote based on some past idea of sexual oppression, but instead, to rise up and recognize that they now have their OWN right to THINK FOR THEMSELVES, make their own choices!

Bee...thanks, as some one who watched a live stream of all four rally's that was my feel also. But, Howard fineman's analysis doesn't surprise me in the least.

They continue to undersestimate Barack and the American people. A month ago they had crowned Hillary and they are relunctant to take that crown off and admit that they don't know everything...so they will continue to try and clamp down his gains and him until they can no longer.

BTW...Howard's opinion is just that one man's. thousands if not millions saw it for themselves.

to chuck, actually obama's campaign made an agreement with the union out of respect to the union. the union agreed to go along with the fact that no other facility of the size that was needed was readily available goegraphically on sudden notice. the events original designation could not hold the number of people that suprisingly responded to the invitation.

you shouldn't misrepresent the truth. it does harm to the process, sir. if you would go online and read the n.h. papers you will find this to be true. it wasn't in just one or two biased papers. it was in every paper in n.h.

also, obama dedicated a part of his speech to advocacy of stagehands being able to unionize at that location. if you were really interested in the truth you would find that most of obama's career has been dedicated to the less fortunate(women, men and children). another false statement on your part, sir.

i think at this stage in the campaign that everyone be truly in search of facts and the truth, not talk points, slander or character asassination. lies don't help the process in anyway.

hillary, obama, edwards, richardson, biden, paul, mccain and huckabee all have good qualities. all the candidates have shortcomings. if we debate upon the facts and issues without twisting the truth we will hopefully make a proper and informed vote. thank you.

There are only two ways to lead, by inspiration and by example, and they are not mutually exclusive. Obama as potus would provide some credibility in both areas, from a global as well as U.S. perspective.

What we have here is a seminal moment where America's claim of global democratic leadership (as opposed to imperial posturing -- as man has done since the inception of the species Homo sapiens here on earth) can be pushed toward the lead end of the continuum. Why do we need these visions so bold that they run the real risk of ridicule as idealistic naiveté? For this reason: Precisely because we are all such imperfect beings, we must strive for perfection (at least in the standards we promulgate as visions). The point is, if we were perfect, then, by definition, whatever action we took would be the right thing to do. So the anchor of a bold vision is a good thing to precede action. Notwithstanding that from the perspective of humanity that it is sad that it's so, given the world extant, in the circumstance of campaign '08 in the U.S., the onus is largely on the dominant group to move beyond what is, and even what can be, and envision what ought to be and THEN grasp this seminal moment that has arisen here. Why? Purely and simply numbers and the one-person-one-vote principle, even if it works to perfection. Consider the circumstances of the South Carolina Democratic primary. Why that one? Because it is said that in that particular primary, blacks comprise circa 50% of the vote. Current estimates say that the black vote is evenly split between Clinton and Obama and that Clinton enjoys a significant lead over Obama for the white vote. Now, how many places exist where such is the significance of the black vote? In 2004 Sharpton received, it is said, 10% of the black vote. (Oh, by the way, this isn't the first time Oprah would have had an opportunity to so publicly support a candidate of African descent}. Notwithstanding all else, 1+1 = 2. It's purely and simply the numbers.

So, as delineated above, the onus is largely on the dominant group. After all, blacks are circa 12% of the population. Nevertheless some of the convoluted arguments being proffered by many blacks, particularly among the “prominent” class, as to why they will/should/ought NOT vote for Obama suggest that a larger vision is required from them if they, also, are to “see” this seminal moment.

On the night of his keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention, I commented to my wife, "he could be the first black president", and here he is.

He spoke out against the Patriot Act then voted in favor of reauthorizing it, he cannot commit to withdrawing the troops out of Iraq by 2013, possibly later.. He hasn't ruled out using strikes against Iran, not to mention the same vote he criticizes Hillary for, he missed himself and sponsored the exact same legislation designating the IRG a terrorist organization in back in April.. He implied that he would invade Pakistan, without the consent of their government.. He made votes making it more difficult for average citizens to sue big corporations.. He has no consistency on the issues of social security and taxes, in the very beginning he was for raising the cap, then having all options on the table, then appointing a bipartisan commission, now he's back to raising the cap..

1) Parts of the Patriot Act (while still not my favorite legislation) have been revised since the initial passage.

2) It takes time to safely remove 150,000 troops and equipment. You can't just put them all on a boat and send them home all at once.

3) You can't take the option of military strikes off the table. And he never said he would attack any country. He said he would go after al-Qaeda on the Pakistan border if they don't do it. And aren't they the guys we're after in the first place?

4) The legislation he sponsored isn't exactly the same as the resolution recently passed. The issue isn't whether or not we should declare them a terrorist organization as much as it is tying our presence in Iraq to Iran's military being a "terrorist organization". His legislation didn't do that; the most recent resolution did.

5) Being for the Social Security cap, then leaving it on the table, then being for the cap again? While I think you kind of have that wrong, it still seems pretty consistent to me.

I seem to recall that Oprah is also the reason that millions of Americans bought and read, "A Million Tiny Pieces" (I forget the exact title). But it was after the fact that Oprah finally did her research and concluded that the non-fiction book she had heralded turned out to be pure fiction. She was duped and she passed it on to her loyal cattle...I mean followers. Does she have any recommendations for a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles that she wants us all to know about?
Just because she has a talk show, does not mean that she is speaking the gospel truth. The fact that only 2% of the country even watches her show is proof that she will have little effect on Obama's political future. Hillary will prove this in about a year.

May God protect us from ourselves. I am for free speech but I am also for everyone using their own God given abitlities to reason. Hitler was very charismatic, very well liked and made quite a hit at all rallys and speeches. Have the supporters of Barack Hussein Obama looked at his heritage and his background? Should we not be a little cautious?

One person asked why we are making this about race. Why is Obama? Why is he running as a black instead of taking on his mother's race? Why is Oprah so adament to use "y'all" in her speech when you never hear her use such language on her television show unless she is trying to remind people of her "background."

It is time we all look at this logically and intelligently. We shouldn't vote for a black so we can go around saying, "America has its first black president." We shouldn't vote for a woman so we can go around saying, "America has its first woman president." We should put into office the best qualified and the most trustworthy American that we can so that we can go around saying, "America has a forthright, patriotic American as president who will protect the rights of all citizens without playing favorites to blacks, women, non-Christians, Christians, Muslims, etc.

People need to understand that Obama is about changing the dynamic of our country, of politics, and ultimately the world and anyone who has said even once, that things need to really change need to be listening to him as he is the one that can do it. Obama is the change we need and if you truly listen to him; you recognize it. I am a black woman who attended the SC rally. I am a Hillary supporter but went to see if Obama could change my mind. I didn't go to the rally to see Oprah because I am not a fan of Oprah AT ALL! The crowd had a lot of white people. They said there were hispanics and asians, but I didn't see any. It was about 40,000 people (guestimate). The rally was extremely well orchestrated in terms of getting the people in, getting information from people, getting people to make phone calls for them. That was real slick. Great strategy. But when Oprah started talking about the blackness, that was a turn off to me. Don't talk to me (a black person) "now" because I know you are only talking to black people because "you" have an agenda. Obama is supposed to be a candidate for all people and he needs to make sure that anyone who is speaking on his behalf realizes that too. They should have looked in the audience to see all my white brothers and sisters out there. Black people can truly be racist sometimes. By the way, he hasn't convinced me to vote for him yet. His age or time spent in Congress doesn't have anything to do with my decision.

As an "outsider", a European to be precise, I really think the world and America today needs a credible, strong, genuinely internationally experienced (ie. has lived and worked in asia or europe for a sufficient time to acquire a healthy perspective of his/her mother country, and speaks at least one foreign language....and ideally not Spanish) future President. Then the rest of the world has the chance to once more begin to learn to respect, appreciate and value America and its place on the global stage, and Americans themselves can once more feel proud to be American when they step outside their own country. Neither Obama nor Hilary, nor indeed any of the other present choice - both Republican or Democratic - of potential Presidential candidates offers America this afore-mentioned possibility. The present choice of candidates (with or without Oprah and other such famous well-doers) are sadly all too misguidedly parochial so the fall of the American Empire will simply continue along with the state of its' Education system (anyone seen the latest OECD global statistics on Education standards worldwide?!!), lamentable Health Care system and so on and so on. The American people deserve better but perhaps they have only themselves to blame in the long run.

As a white American, I don't have any problem with Oprah and Obama, talking about the how far America has come since the civil rights movement. They have a right to proud Black Americans. I am proud too that an African American is seriously being considered by many for president.

As a woman, I don't have a problem with Hillary playing up the fact that she would be the first woman president and how great that would be. I think what people objected to was that right after she had a bad debate performance, she was using her womanhood as a shield to say these men are picking on me.

I would love to see a woman president, but I don't feel that she is the right person for the job. They are a lot of things I really dislike about her to put it as midly as possible. I'm not a sexist or a racist. And I am a democrat and entitled to voice my objections, and so is Oprah.

As a young woman looking for a new beginning for our country, with a new president in 2008, I was excited to hear what Obama had to say when he was in SC. He was passionate and seemed to be honest. His personality is great! It was like he was having a conversation with the crowd about what he wants to do instead of telling us from a scripted speech. He instilled excitement in me and the whole crowd.

I hate to be a name caller because i feel that belittles any inteligent conversation but alot of people on this board sound ignorant and completely incapable of critical thought. Obama isn't doing campain events with Oprah to get her viewers to vote for him, he's doing it to get her viewers to listen to him. For those of you who don't know, Oprah has a large female audience base, and since Hillary has been playing the woman card, there are woman out there who won't even hear him out because they already decided on Hillary. That's the point of these events, exposure, getting his name and message through to people who may not have previously gave him a fair chance. I'm also very disappointed in people who think that Oprah is only rallying behind Obama because he is black. I am an african american professional woman myself and honestly at the start of this campaign i basically wrote him off for lack of experience but as time went on i did my own research on all of the canidates. The more I read and hear him speak the more I like Obama, it has nothing to due with our mutual race. We don't all stick together, which is what alot of you ignorant people, who obviously are not friends with any african americans, like to think. I know it's easier to reduce everything to basic black and white but to continue with this way of thinking only perpetuates ignorance and I for one am tired of it.

The oppressed and disillusioned of the party faithful are anxiously awaiting a savior to deliver them. There is even an evangelical flavor, with the faithful's belief that not only will the Messiah deliver them, but that the Messiah will deliver all of us.

If Little O is elected, will Big Oprah, the birth mother of the Messiah's success, personally direct his first miracle?

Or will Herod, the provincial governor of the Democrat party, find a way to cut the Messiah down in his infancy and cement her own place in the legacy of the true ruling family?

What about those who simply cannot come to terms with the idea that one so young and innocent and of low estate could aspire to lead us?

Former Arkansas Governor (R)Mike Huckabee has secured more than a few celebrity endorsements including George Clooney, Warren Beatty, Rick Flair, and a very funny sketch with Chuck Norris.
(D)John Edwards has at least two celebrity endorsements with Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne. But let's not forget Hilary Clinton's list of celebrity endorsers including such names as Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Peter Chernin of News Corp, and Rob Reiner.
In stating these well known facts I must wonder what is the underlying issue that is obviously infuriating so many of you? It must be that Obama has made another great political move by getting an African American that has been repeatedly endorsed and embraced by white America, which now feels betrayed by her choice to support the candidate in which she believes in.

Why??? Don't we all base our vote on the candidate that we believe in, identify with, and feel most closely will represent our values, goals, and family.

I would simply like to say Thank you, because without you Barak Obama would not have received as much media coverage this weekend as he did.

I like both Clinton and Obama, and I am not saying who I would vote for first. Lastly, Hillary's healthcare plan is nothing but a plan to force everyone without insurance to buy it on their own. It's not like Kucinich's single payer plan. I don't think that people realize just how scary Blackwater USA truly is. The fall of Rome was in part do to the use of mercenary troops. I was commenting to my wife today, that in the attempt to privatize the armed forces (and avoid a draft), this administration may have set a precedent in motion that may be hard to reverse. Not only will we have armed forces that are unaccountable to the government for their behavior (or misbehavior, as the case may be) but a mercenary army frees an imperial president to pursue imperialistic incursions like the one we have seen in Iraq. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Which brings to mind that there has never been an administration more disrespectful of our Constitution than that of GWB. Whoever the next president may be (and I hope that it is Obama) I pray that he has the strength to undue the damage of the past seven years and restore this country to the principles that have made us unique and great.

One (of many) reason that I can't support the Clintons for president is that I doubt that they will do anything to reverse this trend toward an imperial presidency. Power in the form of line-item vetoes and signing statements is the name of their game.

Barack is a Constitutional scholar and he has the best chance of restoring life to this sacred document; a document whose values are not often understood and which was severely abused by this administration. He will make our nation whole again.

Oprah Winfrey is a grown woman, a FREE woman, and she can endorse whoever she wants without the permission of all the race baiting commenters in these blogs.

Will someone please tell me how Oprah has any right to tell me how to vote? What does this BILLIONARE have in common with my life? Does she have to worry about healthcare, retirement, mortgage payments, college cost, fuel prices, or caring for elderly parents? Or, miss jet setter, the fact that it would be nice to be able to afford a family vacation once in a while? I realized Oprah was out of touch when she gave away cars on her show and didn’t realize that most wouldn’t be able afford the taxes! I admire Oprah for the struggles she went through to get where she is today, but she has lost touch with being poor or middle class in America.

Don’t kid yourselves either, Obama grew up a privileged life. His parents traveled and lived in other countries and made a very good living. I don’t think he or his wife have a clue on what it means to be poor or middle class in this country today. He has no substance, his positions are fluff. He talks about a change from politics as usual, but he offers banal, meaningless, repetitious rhetoric. Look at his three paragraphs “detailed” plan for Iraq for example. He calls for convening a constitutional convention in Iraq (uh – they already had one and how much blood did our troops spill to protect that process) overseen by the UN. Excuse me, but can you imagine our founding fathers accepting help from Russia, China, France and England because they “had our best interest at heart”. His plan is insulting to the Iraqi people. His touts his experience on the Senate Foreign relations committee. What, all two years of it? The situation in the Middle East is the most serious threat to our nation today and he can only devote about 5 paragraphs to It on his web-site?
His health care plan is cobbled together from the other candidates (i.e. read Biden’s catastrophic coverage plan, Obama practically copies it word for word), and most experts say it is too ambitious, much of it is already being done (health care modernization act), won’t cover 15 million Americans and he doesn’t even begin to tell us how he would pay for it.

I’m supporting Joe Biden. Why? I don’t want my teenage sons to be fighting in WWIII. Don’t kid yourself, if the Dems loose this election we will see someone like Huckabee in the white house, who is as right-wing, fanatical Christian as you can get, and he will lead us right into the self-fulfilling prophecy of Armageddon. I don’t think Hillary can win the general, she is too polarizing and we would have another razor thin election that will be stolen via voter fraud by the republicans (why not, they’ve gotten away with it twice). Obama might win, but I just don’t believe he has the leadership skills or experience to work with the world and get us out of this mess. Edwards won’t win against the republican attack machine, which he has already been proven. The last thing we need is the voters being dim-witted enough to choose a candidate based on an endorsement by a over-blown, VERY RICH, celebrity. Wake up America. We might really need a seasoned politician that knows congress and the world. Someone who has proven he can pull together bipartizan support and is trusted by foriegn leaders. Go Joe!
