Pat--I just wanted to remind you that this is America where we give anybody a chance. So many of our great leaders and success stories past and present and hopefully future were just regular guys (without real college educations) who did great things. I'd bet they have a better grasp of the issues real people face, a different type of experience. It's funny that people will criticize the Harvard educated professorial B.H. Obama for being lofty and other people will criticize Huckabee for not being lofty enough. Well, I say if they can get things done, why not? I just didn't want you to lose sight of one of the tenets of our country, that anybody can.

Bolivian President Evo Morales and indian and coca farmer has, according to the Daily Show, accomplished what he claimed, even though hr ran without the so-called necessary experience or education. I hate to compare the U.S. with Bolivia though, but it seemed an intersting tidbit.

The Huckabee/religion thing is, I won't lie, an issue for m, and I am questioning and will continue to question. While I disappoint many because I refuse to have faith, many disappoint me because they won't have science. When I look at Huckabee, it seems to me like he understands that not everybody shares his view, and he's not just running for a particular population of the country.
Although, his faith is important to him. Times when he is being inclusive of other faiths or as this thread states the dropping of Christian leader--especially when running for the religions GOP nomination, makes me think that he gets it and can be fair about such.

btw theory is not another way of saying fact... fact does that just fine, and there has been no "concrete" evidence to either prove or disprove the THEORY or evolution. Please refraim from calling people names just because they don't believe the same as you... it just makes you seem intolerant.

That said, is Gov. Huckabee the right person for the job? I don't know, rather I am keeping an open mind and hearing the candidates out. As for getting rid of the IRS and instead going for a "consumption tax"... it is an interesting idea and I am all for it as long as it does not tax food and medicine, aside from that it would relieve the tax burden from some and make others pay more (after all the sales tax on a limo has got to be higher than the tax on my honda).

Keep the debate respectful everyone, the great thing about our country is that it brings in EVERYONE with many ideas and beliefs, and it does not (or should not) belittle others for not thinking the same as others.

You are absolutely correct on that point, Heather.

I'm not sure if you're using "theory" as a pejorative. Likewise, gravity is a theory. What you may not realize is that scientific theories are formed as a result of observation of phenomena and taking of measurements, followed by a hypothetical explanation, followed by more measurements and testing, followed by a refined theory able to make predictions, followed by more controlled testing to prove the theory correct, and so on. The process never stops and the testing can be duplicated and verified by any doubters; that often strengthens the proof. That said, gravitational theory is well proven as is evolutionary theory because of their long-standing acceptance via confirmation by peers in the scientific community.

As an economist, I can tell you that his tax proposals are better than what we have now. They make US products more competitive overseas, because we don't tax these products before they leave our shores. This will create more demand for US products (because they are less expensive) and create job opportunities in the US. Foriegn firms will also want to build a manufacturing base here because of it. Wages will rise, and Americans will be better-off. I like Huckabee. I am voting for him.

Two seperate Republican Candidates are leaning on two seperate fences, talking to two seperate farmers. How do I know which candidate is 'Authentic'? How do I know if the farmers are 'Authentic'? How do I know if the fence is 'Authentic'? Let's say the farmers are actually farmers, but they are also clones. Then they would be 'Inauthentic' since they were copies, like a couple of VanGogh Sunflower copies. Who certifies Conservatives as 'Authentic', anyhow? Do they certify themselves? Just because they say they are, does that mean they are? Throughout the course of a Politicians' life, they say they are just about everything and everybody else is not. That makes them Certifiable, but not Authentic.

Jerry, I'm rather fiscally conservative, especially when it comes to this blog. Yet, on the other hand, some things are worth 'taxing and spending'. That's value. It seems to me that fiscal conservatives have gone too far overboard (drinking kool-aid *smiles*), that they have lost sight of value.

I'm no economist like Dane, but it seems to me an extension of evolution/survival of the fittest, so I like it as a social science, because it borrows from two things I understand: biology and common sense. Anyway, I was explained this by somebody actually smart in economics ...

Imagine a graph with efficiency or benefit or value from our government on the vertical y-axis and taxes on the horizontal x-axis and draw a rainbow. If taxes are 100%, nobody has any money and the benefit is low; and if taxes are 0%, the government cannot do anything an nothing gets done, likewise the benefit is low. It is somewhere in the middle that we are taxed that benefit/value is high. Before Reagan, we were on the 100% side of the rainbow, after, we switched to the 0% side of the rainbow. Thus, we aren't at the peak, and adding taxes would move us in that direction towards the peak. He was not a 'liberal' economist, pretty moderate politically I would say. I'm just sharing information.

Acouple observations:

1) No one cares if you think that evolution is real or not. Just like no one cares if you believe in gravity or not. You personal beliefs, as applied to science, mean jack. If you want to run around saying it's "just a theory" that's fine. But the comments above are correct when they point out that other well known "theories" include Gravity, Relativity, and Quantum Mechanics. If you want to line up as not believing in those "theories" as well, be my geust. But you will look just as stupid denying those as you do denying evolution. But on the bright side, you won't be denied all of the great medical care and other scientific advancements that are BASED on evolution even if you don't believe it's true. 2) Ouachita Baptist University is not accredidated by the US Deptartment of Education. That would indicate that their programs are academically deficient in some manner. This is not about the institutions religious ideology. Other religous universities or universities that were founded by religious orders include Harvard, Yale, Loyola, and Gonzaga. So, yes, I think it is a fair conclusion that Huck's education was sub par. But we should also remember that our current moron in the white house has a BA from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. Education is not an indicator of intelligence. It is an indicator of the ability to go to college. Plenty of people matriculate and are still complete idiots.

3) Huckabee didn't pardon the rapist he lobbied for him to be paroled which isn't much better. Can you say Willie Horton?

Having listened to a couple dozen of Huckabee's speeches and interviews I can see why he is an appealing candidate. I like the guys clarity on issues. There are many causes for concerns about all of the candidates. Huckabee seems to have a growing list. If it is about the possible pardon/commutation of sentances of prisnors to the question about really being a fiscal conservative, these are issues that Huckabee needs to deal with.

When it comes to being a fiscal conservative, I don't know if that really works... Is George W. Bush a fiscal conservative? I really don't think so. The idea of borrow and spend is completely silly. I'd rather pay the way with taxes and fees so that I know that my children and their children don't have to worry about the debt (any kind).

Science, which has been brought up, should be left to scientists. If you dispute their findings, do your own research and look through theirs. I would like people who support Creationism/Intelligent Design to show any evidence and raise any predictions about what else can be found. Science research should drive policy. That hasn't happened in the current administration (one that has been dominated by industry; oil and otherwise). I do wonder if that will happen in a Huckabee administration. That is an important concern so that we don't have people who lead with their ideology first (or could influence in the wrong direction like Steven Milloy). That would drive our country further in the wrong direction.

What an excellent combination for our national leader: high-quality, proven executive experience and a heart that deeply remembers the human struggle.

Darwin stated that evolution was only a theory about a hundred years ago, I think we can all agree that biology has progressed much since then. Evolutionary theory is driving force for all that we know about biology. Genetics has come as close to proving evolution as we will probably be able to come in science, and most of our advances in medicine have been based on evolution as well- we must take into account that viruses actually evolve right in front of our eyes when distributing medicine. There is pretty much a consensus by scientists worldwide that evolution did in fact occur (and not from rocks, who was your science teacher wayne??). While you both are probably not idiots, and Huckabee isn't either, you do seem ignorant to the process of scientific research and more importantly the difference between a scientific theory and a 'theory' in everyday language. To call something a scientific theory means much more than to say "it's just a theory."

I'm not actually anti-Huckabee because he chooses faith over evidence and as he has said himself: He is running for president not looking to rewrite the eighth grade biology curriculum. I just felt the need to input that the evidence for evolution goes much further than Darwin thinking different species of finches looked similar.

Things I like about him:

He's honest, hard-working, loves God and others, very intelligent, great orator, calm and collected, has experience

Things I don't like:

He's soft on crime and soft on illegals. I can understand his idea of JR not paying for Daddy's crimes, but I still think if Daddy's here illegally, he's gotta go.

I think our borders need to be locked down and tightened up. I think Huckabee stands out in a field of idiots, but I still wish someone better would come along.

I think whoever our President is, Obama, Sillary, Huck, whoever, better keep on the offensive with Terrorism. Surely we can all agree on keeping our country safe? Maybe not. I'm not counting on any of you guys being bright. Try to remember 9/11, '93 TC bombings, USS Cole and even further on back to Pearl Harbor. Being asleep and hoping for the best won't get us anywhere and will only get more civilians killed. We have soldiers who have risked and gave all, and who are GLAD to do it. They are the ones who we should be making use of, and appreciating. They want to win this war. We should let them by supporting them and their mission.

Oh, and on the fossil record being proof for evolution: That's retarded. Science can't even tell me how old Pat's fart streaked underwear is, much less how old ANY fossil is. The Fossil record can only show us that IT was there and IT was in a certain region and at a certain place above or below sea level.

To believe that evolution (billions of years of time and pure chance) produced everything we see and know, living cells from an explosion of gases, would take more faith than that of the average 'Creation' believer. A person who can look at Creation and not think it had to be set in motion by a 'Creator' is ignoring more facts than anyone with opposing views.

OK, this might be too technical for some people, but those of you that have experience in medicine and virus vaccines know that evolution does in fact take place. You may have even observed it. (The rest of you need to ask your healthcare provider why you need to get influenza vaccines every year.) You may have also studied how certain bacteria are now becoming resistant to antibiotics. These things show at the most basic level, that things in nature go through changes to adapt to their surroundings. Unfortunately, the anti-evolution folks give demands such as "show me proof of a monkey turning into a human". This cannot be shown because this does not occur. An X in nature does not spontaneously turn into a Y, but over time, a set that may originally contain [X,Y,Z] may change to contain [X,Y,W].

I would suggest that people not turn this into a political issue. As all science, this is a very nuanced and complicated topic, and I'm certainly not doing it justice with my overly simplified description of it.

None of the Founding Fathers were atheists. Most of the Founders were Deists, which is to say they thought the universe had a creator, but that he does not concern himself with the daily lives of humans, and does not directly communicate with humans, either by revelation or by sacred books. They spoke often of God, (Nature's God or the God of Nature), but this was not the God of the bible. They did not deny that there was a person called Jesus, and praised him for his benevolent teachings, but they flatly denied his divinity. Some people speculate that if Charles Darwin had lived a century earlier, the Founding Fathers would have had a basis for accepting naturalistic origins of life, and they would have been atheists. Most of them were stoutly opposed to the bible, and the teachings of Christianity in particular.

This is why Huckabee will never, EVER be President.

Wrong! This country was founded on the principles of the Rule of Law. It was founded to escape a state religion. A state religion is exactly the direction that the "moral majority" wanted to impose since it's inception in the late 70's and early 80's.

I have no problem with people and thier religious beliefs, as long as they don't try to impose those beliefs on myself or anyone else that don't subscribe to them. Which, in fact is the complete opposite of what has been happening for the past two decades. After 6 1/2 years of "I'm a christian, God Said I'm Supposed to be President" in power in this country, and the corruption, lying, cheating, and stealing that they brought to Washington with them, I simply don't trust anyone who runs on "christian principles". I am a christian, and nothing upsets me more than these "Political Christians" who run around with their holier than thou attitude and turn out to be the worse of the worse when it comes to true principles.

What is particularly troubling about Huckabee is that he is an effective communicator with a message that is way out of the mainstream. It is symbolic of the division of this country that much of this discourse debates the existence of evolution: like it or not, it is an accepted scientific reality that is acknowledged by the overwhelming majority of the world's population (non-Judaeo/Christian religions have their own religious theory of how life began: what makes ours better or more scientifically valid than theirs?). I find it unfortunate that so many people are willing to endorse a candidate based largely on narrow social issues (abortion and gay marriage are not by any means the most important questions facing this nation, yet that is how many so-called values voters make their decisions. Huckabee is clever, but ultimately he would be another divider, not a uniter. Of course, I don't know who among the stated candidates could heal the deep rifts in American society.

Interesting discussion.

I'm a Christian. I believe in the Bible, though I think it leaves out a lot that would clear things up for us all. I suppose that's why they call it faith. Non-believers have faith too. They don't know there's not a God- but they have a strong feeling there isn't one. I disagree. Everything is caused/created. Christians call the first cause, the original cause, God. Religion is purely about how we should live and behave if such a thing exists (i.e.- what do we owe you God just because you created everything?) If you don't believe in God, you probably wouldn't understand religion. That's cool with me. Agree to disagree. But it's so laughable to think we'd ban Christians from office. First of all, it seems there's a lot more atheists on message boards than willing to run for public office. Perhaps there's so many delusional Christians and casual believers in God who don't go to church that the atheists feel they wouldn't have a chance in hell (hope that doesn't offend anyone).

I also believe in science and in God giving man the intelligence to develop technology and to research hypotheses. I believe that science and religion can be reconciled to a large extent (but never completely - strict adherents to either require some faith.) Antireligious folk generally don't have enough Bible knowledge more this to mean much, but I'd invite us all to do a few google searches on the "Pre-Adamite" world. It is the idea that Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 have between them a huge passage of time, and that the "six days" of Genesis is a recreation of a world destroyed by God because of evil. St. Peter (2 Peter 3:5) speaks of this as if it was common knowledge to early Christians.

I've heard a lot of controversy about carbon dating but in my gut I believe in it. I'm less of a believer in every aspect of evolution, though I admit that what I know of it seems at least plausible/possible. What I can't figure is why people are able to be so sure about there not being a God.

Given the amount of people in our country that believe in God, I hope we never get to the totalitarianism that a religious litmus test for office would be. And that includes atheism being a disqualifier for office. But I hope that anti-creationists will also consider Francis Collins' book on the issue called "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief." Collins is a geneticist who headed up the Human Genome Project. He argues: Might our compromise position be theistic evolution?

Since everything must be caused, spontaneous generation being disproved back in the Renaissance or thereabouts, we know there was a first cause. Let's all argue about what that might have been.

Mind you the schools are all nationally accredited, popular educational institutions and many people go to them for different reasons other than being preachers. Dane in VA...If you are an Economist they should close the school that educated you. The fair tax will place an undo tax on our goods, thus increasing cost of goods sold. This will greatly affect rural america that pays limitied federal tax due to their low wages. A fair tax is across the board, which means that a can of peas will have a 18% federal tax regardless of your area of the country. If I am in a metro area it will be great, if I am in rural America I am hurt. Not to mention it opens us up to more black market influences. Back to politics, I am tired of the status quo from both parties. Both Clinton and Bush pushed for Free trade but didn't level the playing field. Now we are dependant on everyone else for everything so we can't take care fo ourselves. Talk about dumbing down the constituents. Huck's consumption based tax makes us more competitive.

Another point of not being competitive is our current Health Care system. But do you think Government can do a better job. Just think about Medicare and Social Security. I think not. Huck has a plan for health care that makes America more competitive.

Want out of Iraq and not to worry about Iran and the rest of the middle East? Try energy independence then we don't have to worry about our "interests" (Oil) over there. How's that for a forgien policy?

When Mike Huckabee was governor of Arkansas, immigration services raided a poultry plant. I think it was in DeQueen, Arkansas. (You can google it) They arrested several illegals and sent them packing. Huckabee came out and condemned the raid. He was against the authorities deporting the illegals and he spoke out against the raid. He even took $1,000.00 from some governor's fund he had and sent it to be used to buy backpacks for the kids whose parents had been shipped off. Like that was gonna help anyone, but it goes to show where he stands, or where he stood, on illegal immigration. Also while governor, he supported giving illegals driving licenses. He also supported giving college scholarships to children of illegals.

I believe that God created evolution and science. God now is immensely enjoying us as we try to figure out how God did it and I believe that God has a great sense of humor. When God is not crying, I firmly believe God is laughing.

God might even think we're pretty clever as we apply our human limitations in order to handle the immenseness of it all. Perhaps even the division of the creative process into nice little human units of seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, etc. just so we can understand it within our own limited experience.

Science discovers, explains and manipulates things that already exist. Science in the human sense has never really created anything in the literal sense.

The best answer for any of these questions is "I don't know, but there are lots of ideas worth considering."

Darwinian Evolution is a naturalistic worldview disguised as science. Everyone has a worldview which is simply our assumptions on where we came from and why we are here. If you are willing to look, there is overwhelming evidence for a creator and a personal God utilizing philosophy, history, and science. The naturalistic worldview suggests that nature is all there ever was. But something came from nothing - something must exist beyond nature. Evolution looks for a way to push God out. Look at the evidence. That said, would I rather have a candidate in office that believes in God, the sanctity of life, purpose in life, and upholds the moral law; or, would I rather have moral relativist that believes we have no purpose outside of propagating our genes? I don't know of any candidate that would deny God, but what does Darwinian Evolution and naturalism imply? The problem is we dismiss "religion" as an unprovable worldview while naturalism seeps into our science curriculum. This is really a question on origins - again, look at the scholarly evidence (not simply everyone's opinion). ID does not hinder science, it creates a framework for uncovering (reverse engineering) the design of life. It allows us to take a top down approach to understanding design and physiology of life rather than assuming a bottom up evolutionary mechanism. And physiology and biochemistry support that life appears to be highly engineered. I've read the evidence on both sides. On the evolutionary side, I here mostly insults, no substance. I've been through a masters level in biological sciences and here the assumptions of naturalism everywhere. Little evidence.

I don't mind if they teach creationism in the schools, and I don't mind if they teach evolution. I think they should teach both. What's wrong with a little competition?

But as far as I can tell, Huckabee isn't campaigning to stop the teaching of evolution in our schools. This isn't what he's all about. This is more of a very removed side issue for him.

What does he stand for? Religious right seems to be his biggest audience. Most of the people in this country believe in god anyway, so it shouldn't be too surprising their vote matters. I think it's safe to say that he endorses the traditional Christian anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage views. But then, most of the republican candidates would want to pass something banning these on a federal level. The exceptions are Guilianni (who isn't conservative) and Paul (who's would leave it to the states).

How does he compare to bush? Well, it doesn't look like he really has a difference in foreign policy. He wouldn't bring the troops home, and he would likely invade Iran "if necessary". Whatever that means. But in this he doesn't really differ from the other Republicans (except Paul), or even the leading Democrats (Clinton, Obama).

I think he's not much different than the rest of the candidates. He raised takes, but so would Guiliani, Romney, McCain, Thompson, Clinton, or Obama. He's soft on immigration, but so are all the so called 'front runners'. If you want tough immigration policy you'll probably have to vote for Paul or (gasp) Tancredo.

So why not vote for him? He's pretty much the same as all the other candidates anyway. No matter who we vote for we're going to get more taxes, individual rights sacrificed for the sake of fighting terror, and more immigrants, so why not vote for the underdog that might actually believe in the same God as you?

I'll tell you why not: Because there's another underdog who actually would do what's good for America. That man is Ron Paul. That's who I'm voting for.

Ron Paul is an okay guy, but please get past this conspiracy theory that the MSM is intentionally ignoring him. It's true he wins INTERNET straw polls, but when it comes to polls conducted by reputable firms like Rasmussen and Gallup, he still registers in single digits.
As for him "being the only Republican who can win," are you kidding? Again, I like some of his ideas, but he doesn't articulate them well. On the flip side, you may not like Mike Huckabee or his ideas. But he does a great job of articulating them. In fact the frontrunners in both of the major parties do. That might partly be why they're the frontrunners.
On a completely unrelated note, you'll notice that I live in Utah. I just want to let everyone know that although a ridiculous majority of the people in this state are behind Mitt Romney, he will never, ever, under any circumstances get the support of this Utah voter.

Some of these comments are ridiculous. Obviously, some of the folks talking about evolution and gravity do not have a science degree. Those who said Gravity is a "theory" are wrong. Gravity is referred to in the scientific community as the LAW of gravity. If a theory turns out to be proven, it then becomes a law. Evolution has not been proven with that level of certainty. Further, evolution has many aspects: most controversial is macroevolution -- that is the large scale evolution of all species from single celled organisms. This is also the part of evolution with the LEAST scientific evidence and the most holes in the theory. However, very few dispute that there is microevolution. That is, humans, animals, plants, bacteria, etc. evolve slightly in response to stimuli. Knowing how this works is very beneficial in evaluating how to fight diseases, viruses, and other practical ailments. If one disagrees with the premise behind macroevolution, fine. It is not really the main point anyway. The true scientific discoveries lie in understanding microevolution. Someone is not an idiot for doubting the macroevolution theory nor is he an idiot for believing in a Creator guiding our creation, whether he did it in 6 literal days or utilizing macroevolution to do so over millions of years.

I think it is interesting that none of the creationist here will actually comment on the statements made by the people here who are actually informed about the evidence supporting evolution. Instead of harping on misspellings in other people's arguments why not actually have a real debate and comment on what it is that they are actually saying? I have yet to read a post where a creationist had an explanation for the fact that modern medicine is based on evolution, and wouldn't work without it, that we can literally WATCH microscopic organisms evolve, and that molecular biology has shown that the genetic code is identical in all species we have examined; the likelihood of that happening by chance if they weren't from the same origin is less than one in a million million million million million.
BTW, taking this all into consideration is not equivalent of denying the existence of God. Even the Pope gave recognition to Stephen Hawking for his Big Bang Theory, which definitely suggests that the universe is billions of years old, because it could also be interpreted as suggesting that God caused the Big Bang billions of years ago. The bible was written by humans, and it has been shown to be wrong before (unless you want to argue that the sun does in fact move around the Earth-because the bible suggests that) You should at the very least reserve judgement on evolution and other scientific theories if you are not informed of the both sides. And I would recommend reading River out of Eden by Richard Dawkins too, among about a million other books.

Okay, "Theory" is a misnomer when it comes to evolution. Even hypotheses can be tested-it's pretty hard to stick around for the results of any "test" you may conduct if the time required is millions of years.
I'm not arguing either way, I just find it rather silly to accept something as fact when you are in fact accepting evolution with faith-faith in authority without really understanding it for yourself.
You can see apples drop, and I suppose I couldn't be typing right now if electrons and quantum mechanics didn't really exist.
But just as we never saw the Spanish Armada sink but still accept it, many will accept evolution-which is fine- but obviously cannot see it.
I just that you'd think before claiming something to be absolute truth and the "cornerstone" of science. For after all, for something to be scientific, it is by its very definition falsifiable, not verifiable.
Anyway, that's my two cents

This same god gave his creations a free will, he oversees the excercise of this freewill in his omnipotence. god makes a few rules that if you violates you see his creativity in other ways. He "intelligently" designed a lake of fire that will forever roast people he loves so much. In your Bible, sex between two consenting adults (do you still call it fornication), picking firewoods on a sabath, the biggest one saying that you did not recognize him (extremely jealous and prouf of it). Any of these offences would send you to burn for all eternity.

Huckabee did not parole a rapist/murderer... that was done by a parole board that was 100% appointed by Bill Clinton before Huckabee's term as governor. In fact, Huckabee refused to commute the rapist's sentence. The parole board only objected after Huckabee fired them. Huckabee is true law-and-order conservative.

I don't think the dropping of "Christian leader" is significant. The ad in which those words do appear is specifically about how he is a moral, upstanding man (in contrast to other candidates) and his former job as a Baptist pastor highlights that. The ads in which those words do not appear are about policies, thus the term "Christian leader" doesn't fit.

First Read, there is no need to hype this. Huckabee isn't "dropping" Christian leader; he's just releasing an ad where religion and morality do not come into play.

And, for the record, I'm a diehard liberal and, even though I disagree with him enormously on many things, even I can see his appeal. He speaks his mind, he is not driven by what polls tell him to say, he actually cares about people, and, in my mind, he is the most formindable Republican candidate for president. I think Democrats should fear him the most; he could actually win next year.

as far as Evolution and politics goes... there really is no proof (ie Scietific observation of the act in REAL TIME), so lay off the guy for expressing his idea! Gee, and if you want to hear mine keep reading, but don't say I didn't warn ya:)

by "proof" i mean... I've yet to experience the awesome sight of seeing a fish walk out of the ocean and grow legs (and later on it's ancestors put together a laser that can perform surgery).... Saying it took place over 90,000,000,000,000,000,000 years does not make it easier for me to beleive that. And even if they did do that at some point, where'd the fish come from (repeat, repeat, repeat... at some point, Matter had to be created- there had to be a beginning somewhere.

Here's another thought... why were people (i mean "Human Beings" the only species to presently develope language, civilization, government, and later on the wonderful process of observation aka science. What about Lions, Tigers and Bears? They've had just as much time as us on this Earth, but while we were (supposedly) learning how to communicate, and walk on two legs, they have done nothing with themselves but eat, sleep, and reproduce (well true some people's lives don't amount to much more either)... when I see my supposed "ancestors" today out there in the jungles somewhere start analyzing their own environment and publish for themselves with their own printing press a declaration stating that they evolved...

"Professing themselves wise they became fools... worshiping the creation more than the creator" is what I think of most all "official" college educations. So if he never went to any such place, MORE POWER TO HIM!!! Gravity I agree with. I've fallen down. Atomic Physics I agree with- I'd be dead right now if it wasn't, 'cuz my Grandfather would've been killed in Japan. But what has the theory of Evolution gotten us in this world? Just the idea that we're not accountable to any higher power so we can live as we please- if not as individuals than our country in general. If our country believed in Jehovah we'd have not acted so aweful this last 100 years and just played nice with everyone... and if the whole world beleived in him, 9/11 wouldn't have ever happened. But someday, I'll have my point proven- some may not think so, but I'll be just as dead as them in 100 years and had a much better life with a friend I can depend on for anything (whether you think he's imaginary is your own perogative- I say he's REAL).

It take less faith for me to believe in God (and have every other question answered by the one who set up the "laws" that govern our world)...than to deny God but then have to explain how everything else (and still end up with no soul 'cuz Science has no personality to impart on it's so called creations)...by extension, Muder, morality in General become meaningless which is why it bothers me that such a person who believes this would want to run our country. Not that any one party has a handle on "morality"...but where d'ya start?

Mike Huckabee is a very geniune person. I met him with my wife in Nashville. I had a 10 min. conversation with him. He was very funny and personable. He has a sense of humor. Making fun of himself. I am personally ashamed that all this science vs religion debate is degrading down to a name calling match. I have heard both sides of the debate raged in my personal circles many times with people showing "evidence" that the other side is both right and wrong. The most common arguments I hear from the pro evolution side uses Biology and the fact that "close" similarities exist between different species. The most often used Science to explain Creationism is in the laws of Thermodynamics (most importantly the study of Entropy and the fact that the "Universe" goes from an orderly state toward chaos.) According to certain individuals this precludes Evolution as this would be in direct conflict with the idea of Entropy as defined in the Laws of Thermodynamics. (Basically in order to obtain evolution then one would have to go from simple to complex which would counter the concept of Entropy.

In any result this is a debate that will rage throughout the ages with people standing on either side. This, like any debate where religion meets science, is difficult to win as both sides feel very strongly about their stand. Basically, if you believe in Creationism, hold fast to your belief and dont suffer the slings and arrows of the other side. If you are a firm believer in Evolution (whether you are firmly in the Aethiest Camp or are more of the Agnostic Evolutionist) then if your belife is true, ultimately you will have the last laugh.

Personally I normally end the debates around me by saying this. If the Creationist is wrong and there is no God, then he/she has wasted a little money doing good works and lived their life not fearing the end but expecting something that will not come. However if the Evolutionist is wrong, I hope you can explain your views to the creator.

On Education, I do not believe you have to be uneducated to believe in Creation (I personally hold that belief and have an Engineering Degree). I dont believe you are a "Redneck" for having that belief as many well respected Sophisticated people also hold that belief.

I belive that if you are unsure of your position in a debate then you regress to name calling. I would encourage the debate, but center it on the issue not the person. I would like to think we are all intelligent beings who can have a difference of opinion and lift ourselves above name calling (or pointing out spelling mistakes).

I have met (and have many friends) who received degrees from "Bible Universities" and I highly respect them for thier degree. Some of the subjects they have completed have prepared them to lead huge congregations and manage huge sums of money that churches take in. I myself considered Advanced Thermodynamics and Differential Equations difficult (or at least requiring significant Study), but who am I to say that learning Greek, Studying the texts written thousands of years ago, learning to guide others and how to run an institution as large as some of the mega churches are to be any less difficult. We need to all recognize that sometimes we feel what we have is the greatest and tend to look down at others because we feel that this will increase our stature. The wise man will realize that No one is as important than a mother who raises, loves, cares for, nurtures, and uplifts. Education - 0, worth immense.

the fair tax is a consumption tax. it will not be a tax break for anyone who is nottrying to save money, yet for someone who is saving to buy a house, it is an immediate 10-15% in thier pocket as they do not spend the money and are not taxed on it. Add into that the consumer can pay 10-15% more off on thier credit cards, saving 15-20% interest each month on that 10% then we are looking at an immediate, in your pocket savings of 12-17%%.

I will take 10%+ more money each payday to spend or save as I see fit.

And as for raising taxes, we need to while we are in this war. There are grave consequences to not doing so. War sucks, and it is expensive. Guess our leaders should have looked at the whole picture a little more closely instead of focusing on the polls and worrying if history would like them or not.

I mind that he won't allow rape victims to have abortion as a choice if the rape ends in pregnancy. I think the victim should have a choice (if she chooses to keep it, more power to her). And since Mike has a history of lobbying parole for a rapist, as a woman I am honestly frightened at the idea of him as president. I think my fellow Christians in Iowa should consider this. I'm a Democrat for Life, recently returned to the Catholic Church from Pentecostalism, and I CANNOT in good conscience support a pro-choice candidate. I also recently moved To VA from suburban Westchester County. New York Catholics were notoriously Democratic before the abortion debacle raised its ugly head. Roman Catholicism has always been THE church of social justice, favoring feeding the poor and NOT executing those on Death Row. What's a liberal Catholic to do? Instead of decrying Huck because he's a Compassionate Conservative, realize that he's likely to pull the votes of a lot of Catholics who would be voting Democratic except for abortion. I am also made personally quite nervous about the thought of Iran with shotguns, let alone a nuclear weapon. I'm for strong US support of Israel. I wouldn't hold Romney's faith against him. After all, Mormons are good folks who, like Catholics, don't believe in birth control or abortion and favor large families. But if Mitt believes, as his church teaches, that the New Jerusalem will land in Missouri, he might not be too worried about Israel!

I have to say, as a Ouachita Baptist University graduate, that I am quite offended that some posters would consider my education and my school as "sub par" or "not a real school." I was accepted to 5 colleges in several states and chose Ouachita because it has a reputation as being one of the best schools in the region. Just because the school is "church-affiliated" does not make it less of a school. Ouachita has a 90% acceptance rate to medical school and an equally high rate of acceptance to other graduate programs. There aren't many schools that can boast those kinds of statistics. Upon graduation from Ouachita, I went to graduate school and received an MBA and was as well prepared as other students, and in some cases, even more prepared.

The point is, it doesn't matter what college Huckabee chose to attend, he graduated in 2.5 years, which is difficult at ANY school. He also worked to put himself through school because his family could not afford the tuition. He came from a humble beginning, and is now a presidential candidate. He has lived the American dream. I also have to say that I have met Gov. Huckabee upon several occasions and find him to be a very genuine, compassion person who truly does care about people. He bases his decisions on what would be best for America, not on the views of some focus group, like some of his Democratic counterparts.

A theory is abstract - cannot be proven directly. A hypothesis is a tangible measurement that supports an abstract theory. Scientific methodology involves experimentation and observation.

Religion is a subset of philosophy. Without philosophy (reason and basic logic) science would be useless. Evolution is based primarily in philosophical naturalism - the assumption that nature is all there ever was. We assume that everything has a cause which is the underlying assumption of science which is the search for causes. Where did nature come from? There is overwhelming evidence that the universe had a beginning (Big Bang). So, what caused the Big Bang? There must be, at some point, an uncaused first cause or agent which most acknowledge as God.

Darwin did not have the abilities to see far into the complexities of cellular biology and outer space that we do now. Naturalism has become the religion of atheists now.

Evolution has inhibited science, if anything, as we tend to disregard biological components as left over evolutionary products rather than search for purpose in design of the physiology as a whole. And that is the key, understanding the life as an intricate top down system. ID does not in any way suggest giving up on science or dismissing everything to the "god of the gaps", but it should create an even greater intrigue with life and discovering the design and physiology of life. It is simply, a top down approach - understanding first the framework of life and then reverse engineering it. Genetic/DNA research and cellular/biochemical research has not supported the bottom up evolutionary perspective, but has raised many questions. Evolution is being highly questioned at these levels. Please be honest with the facts.

Evolution does exist at a adaptive micro level. By that we mean existing attributes become amplified or diminished depending on survival in to the next generation. But the intricate design of the system does not change. If macroevolution is to be proven, it must be proven at the biochemical, cellular level. It must be shown how irreducible systems of interdependent parts can evolve and at every stage of evolution add benefit the survival of the organism. On top of that, we would expect billions of transitional fossils. Instead we see breeding limits in animals - we cannot breed a third eye or another set of teeth in a dog - we can only amplify or diminish existing attributes. So evolution must use mutations (to create new components not simply amplify or diminish existing) which are almost always bad - and then multiple biological components would have to mutate at the same time in order for a complex system to be put in place. Look, would we ever look at a computer, jet airplane, building, camera, etc. and assume that it was NOT designed? The truth is, we recognize architecture behind any complex system - each component plays a part in the functional and structural aspects of the system. We need to stop pretending as though life still fits into this simple Darwinian framework.

The greatest issue Darwin ever faced was the problem of evil. Recognizing evil (universally even), demonstrates a recognition of good - the ideal. Where does this ideal come from? Paraphrasing CS Lewis, how can we recognize a crooked line without an understanding of a straight line. So why does God allow evil? Don't know for sure. But could he allow more evil? Hitler? Stallin?, terrorism, etc...Also, pain causes us to seek God while with success we tend to seek ourselves. We become invincible in our own minds. I do think that is why atheism and agnosticism as grown - we have become comfortable in modern conveniences and more insulated from the immediate threat of death and suffering. We must make sense out of life and we all know internally that we were created for a reason. We are not simple stimuli-response machines - we love, relate, innovate, etc... Which makes better sense of what we know about ourselves and the world around us - Naturalism or Theism? Let's be honest with ourselves - there is nothing gained by fooling ourselves or others. Maybe I'm wrong, but what if I'm right? Look into the evidence.

BTW - I am a business architect with a masters level background in biology. I understand biological system s and architecture. Life points to a designer and we should seek evidence, both within ourselves (our purpose/design) and externally to understand the true nature of this designer. I don't think we were ever intended to have blind faith in God...he has left his fingerprints everywhere through his general revelation in nature and special revelation through time in the Biblical documents. Why do we run from God and not seek him earnestly in truth? Because, we don't want to be accountable to anyone but ourselves. Pride and is the original sin. Let's humbly seek truth.

And if you want to see more studies and acknowledgment of scientists that support ID or at least now question macro evolution, then allow the scientists a way to do so without jeopardizing their careers. Censorship is a clear indication that something is wrong in what should be open scientific questioning. Some of the greatest historians and scientists now question evolution and/or now support the ID framework of life. Look at the evidence yourselves though, don't just listen to me.

Abortion. The abortion issue comes down to when does life begin. Torturing and murdering a baby would be a horrible thing that we would all agree is wrong. So what makes it ok to do in the silence of the womb. Women should at least be able to view their babies via ultrasound prior to any abortion. I don't agree that we should have the right to interfere with a womans choice over her own body, but this is not about her body - it is about the innocent life growing in her body. We need to stop just pointing fingers. These women need help and to understand that these are innocent babies that had no say in the circumstances to which they were conceived. But there definitely needs to be help out there for women with unexpected pregnancies. Many of these women are in very desperate situations. As a society that believes in the sanctity of life we need to step up and help these women and their innocent babies.

Wilson, if you don't know what you're talking about, it is best to say nothing. Evolution IS the cornerstone of our sciences. If we scrap it, we have to scrap biology, geology, a great deal of chemistry and our medical sciences. All of these depend on evolution and have been proven right to do so over and over again. Ignoring evolution and its priciples such as natural selection is dangerous and risky. That's why we are now looking at super bugs and super colds and super polio etc.

With that said, Mike Huckabee neither knows nor cares a wit about the dangers of ignoring evolution. Too many people here are saying, "I like him because he favors this or that." Which truly scares me.

While reading a few of these comments it is very obvious there are many who do not believe in creation and we who do are forcing our belief on them. Those who do not believe fight our observance of the birth of Christ with a passion. Why? If you do not believe, ignore our celebration . Create a day to celebrate your Atheist belief, we will reciprocate and ignore your celebration.
Whatever your belief, we can live in America harmonously. History seems to prove our better leaders have been based solidly in the Christian faith. Mike Huckabee is still our best choice for a national leader.

The Democrats and the liberal news media would have a "field day" if Huckabee is the Republican candidate and this is the very thing that will get him elected President!

People are fed up with slanted news, out right lies and cover ups! Huckabee by a landslide over any Democrat, especially Ms. Clinton.

I am 74 years old. In that time I have seen many things. Years ago we elected "Statesmen to public office", now we are plagued by nothing but polititions. Self seeking individuals concerned mainly for their own personal welfare. I have seen all sorts of polititions running our country, and in the prosess, "ruining" our country. We once were the most respected country in the world, because we lived according to the principles outlined in the Holy Bible, and people came here to learn our ways. Today we are hated by most of the world because of our moral corruption,as a nation, and by our tolerating said corruption.
Today we have a Champion for moral, fiscal, and political reform. Mike Huckabee, is a man who has common sense solutions for several of our national problems. Mike Huckabee doesn't have all the answers, but he is searching for solutions, and is able to surround himself with knowledable advisors who can advise him in areas where he is less informed. He is not afraid to speak out against corruuption wherever it rears its' ugly head. He is a Christian and is not ashamed of it. If you check history, you will find that nearly all, if not all, of our founding fathers were Christians, some of which were ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They left us a pretty good legacy, and now we have a chance to put a statesman back into the White House. We have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by having Mike Huckabee leading our nation back to some form of senseable government. For the benefit of your family, your friends and our nation, prayerfully consider doing your part to put Mike Huckabee into the office of President of The United States of America.
