Amazing to me that we Democrats have complained for the last 7 years, among other things, of the division created by the Bushecons. Putting the "reasons" of the divide aside, we all can agree that the divide in itself, was largely to blame for some of the issues we are facing today.
With that said, why would we as Democrats choose the most polarizing figure in our field as our Nominee? Is this going to be a "you screwed us, now we're screwing you" kind of nominee? Because thats what Hillary being our nominee would be. Another 4 years of divide.
We want to walk into office in Jan. 09 with a political divide ALREADY IN PLACE? Ask yourselves, is thats what best for AMERICA?

Not too many Americans seem to think it's a big deal that Obama chose NOT to put his hand (in patriotic love of country) over his heart and chose NOT to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at a Tom Harkin event.

I ask my fellow countrymen to consider how they would feel if he is elected president and at a school event, White House event, or any other official 'presidential' event he chooses again NOT to place his hand over his heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. While this had absolutely no bearing on any substantive issues, it was pretty fun to watch. I thought that it made Clinton come off as cocky and mean spirited. True, this particular comment didn't directly answer the question, but he had another 45 seconds or so to his response that did.

Overall I'd say Edwards and Obama each got quite a boost from this debate. They each came off strong with their own themes of the night. Edwards stuck with bashing corporate greed and interest groups, while Obama focused on uniting around a common cause.

Hillary didn't do poorly, and got 1 good shot in with her 30 second pitch, but needed to do much better. Her lack boost can be seen a slide.

The second tiers all remained pretty stagnant. Richardson may be the only possible exception considering his unusually large amount of face time. Biden came off more human than he ever has, and was consistently strong on issues, but i don't see this materializing in the polls. Chris Dodd wins the flop of the night and did absolutely nothing memorable.

All in all, any combination of the top 3 would be a home run ballot, obama/edwards or edwards/obama would be fun, but either could also have alot of success with a vp richardson or biden as well. Dems for the white house in 08!

It is true that Obama likely polled well with his response, given the media effect of camera for Hillary's laugh wasn't the most pleasing to media audience. Despite what some say, his response did "answer" the part of question as Citizen J noted--regarding a break from the past... a break from what we've just witnessed as being perhaps the worst foreign policy since Carter in Bush, a Republican no less--a party which is usually thought to have stronger policy advisers in foreign policy.

However, the question didn't mean a break from the Bush past. There isn't a Democrat currently running that could do worse (although a few would be as bad), and all would break with that failure. The question was asking about a "Break" from current politics as usual... approach, specifically including the heavyweights such as Clinton. If Obama is relying on such talent as former Clinton officials to lead his Cabinet positions (if he is nominated), his approach and response begs the question: how different and fresh political approach will (or even can) we get from him? The federal govt--Executive Branches are way too complex for any of these candidates to change--despite their best of intentions.

I like Obama a ton. And obviously America likes him. But despite his personal talent to speak to an audience, I don't think he has the talent to lead a country this size with as many systemic financial issues as we currently face. The "love affair" America currently has for him will end quickly if he doesn't quickly fix our country's financial mess, and it cannot be quickly fixed. When America wants a divorce and becomes disgruntled as it quickly can, he simply won't be tough enough to remain effective due largely to the crazy Right Wing (the Left has its crazy people, too). We know what that party put the Clintons thru several investigations. Does anyone seriously think Obama can take that kind of pressure???

The media, right, center or left are apparently the main components of a Broadway spectacle competing to keep an audience. It is disappointing to watch and listen to those that for the past six or seven years have complained and cried out about this miserable administration on how had twist and manipulated our nation and the world and yet have done very little to incorporate on their daily emission of sound bits the urgency for a change. No the main stream media the one that I always have defended is doing everything possible to maintain the status Quo. It is disappointing to watch and listen to some of the mainstream media that are not informing or transmitting the urgency and the seriousness of a change. Instead they are themselves capitulating to play book of the adversary and making it more confusing for the people to make doubtless decisions.
What I see is the media is taking the seriousness of this election and converted in to a game of polls, who knocked down the other and unleashing separation between those that can best represent and guide our nation to a change.
There are some in the mainstream media that are beginning to sound like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, those two of the right wing cult.
The question is "is the mainstream media want a change? if the answer is yes then help by starting to take in serious the future that we will face if the Right wing continue their presence in the White House. Stop wasting time about childish commentaries about if some is clapping or if if she /him is reading or looking for a punch line in the debates. Remember one thing we are all in the same boat and the boat now is in need of the right captain. The main stream media is our only weapon against the perversity and evil embedded in this ill administration. If the mainstream media so desire we can rest assure of a change. We've already had EIGHT years of the Clintons! The same family should NOT occupy the White House for SIXTEEN years! That's called a DICTATORSHIP. When Hillary was presented with this comment, she quipped, "I agree, Bush shouldn't be in the White House..." Talk about NOT answering a question. This should be a real concern, America.

Worse, Hillary's got the unmitigated gall to speak up on HEALTH CARE?! LOL Um, where's that phonebook-sized "health care plan" she created while her husband was prez? It had more holes in it than Swiss cheese! Anybody here get free healthcare when Bill was in office? I know I didn't. Why should the Clintons care? They're gazillionaires!

Only the very, very wealthy can afford to campaign in this country. Very, very sad for America.

Is there any chance of campaign finance reform? When will we have the likes of Abe Lincoln (and it's fine if "Abe" is female or black) back in the White House? We can never hope for that again until being a multi-millionaire is NOT a prerequisite to running for office in this country. As long as the powers that be keep the Democrats and Republicans at each other's throats, they make a mockery of the common people--the "average Joe" if you will.

The Constitution was written BY the people and FOR the people. Americans weren't meant to line the rich man's pockets. Regardless of race, creed, or color, will everybody please wake up! DEMOCRATS ARE JUST AS WEALTHY AS REPUBLICANS! What do ANY of them know of the plight of the poor and the middle class; those who cannot afford health insurance? (Do we still have a middle class in this country?) Even the two-income family cannot make ends meet. ALL of these candidates are mega-millionaires. Don't be fooled. The ones who pretend they're for the poor are the biggest phonies of all. Yeah, as long as "the poor" don't live in THEIR neighborhoods!

And the Hollywood elite? Those who earn $20 million a movie? How dare they pretend to know how to run this country. It's easy to TALK when you don't have to do the WALK. Do any of these actors have a kid dying of cancer but can't afford health insurance to give him/her the best medical care?

Please, America, wake up! Let's rally round a viable third party and stop feeding these fat cats!
