A lot of people on these blogs are the same naysayers who said she would never be elected Senator. And then once she was, that she would wilt under pressure and never be re-elected. Again, she has proven her detractors wrong. No one can deny that Iowa is an incredibly tight race and ironically, the results can be affected by things as simple as the weather, the football game and how many people feel like going out on caucus night. And yet, the results here have the potential to affect later states. I think the compressed calendar does a disservice to both the candidates and the American people in general. One slip up, one YouTube moment and it's over. That is why, regardless of the outcome of Jan. 3 in Iowa, only Clinton and Obama have the muscle and money to go the distance thru Feb 5.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

THAT'AS MY DAUGHTER..hillaryclinton.com

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Hillary Rodham Clinton is the best thing since sliced bread!

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Somebody needs to ask that racist Goldwater Girl Hillary: "We know your husband did drugs - even though he didn't inhale. It's ridiculous. Obama is no angel, let's not forget his Punjab-D memo about Hillary that he had to disavow and put the blame off on a subordinate. And that's only one of many examples of his campaign tactics of hope. The "hope" is that the press continues to anoint him as the next black JFK while overlooking his oh so numerous inadequacies. It's ironic he claims to be an agent of change, yet he knows how to play the game just as well as the establishment. NO ONE makes it to the Senate by being an "outsider" - that's just more spin by every new politician trying to sound fresh. My only hope is that Iowans are smarter than that and caucus for the best candidate - Hillary Clinton!

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Whenever she says she will be ready from day one to be president - inferring that the other candidates won't be ready - I just shake my head in disbelief. What IS this huge experience advantage that she thinks she has over Obama, Edwards, Biden, etc.?? She was First Lady of both Arkansas and the US - NOT Governor or President! She has been in the Senate seven years. What major accomplishments has she had in the Senate? And we all know her failure on health care when she was the US First Lady. And now her campaign is totally out of control. Obama, Edwards, Biden, Dodd, and Richardson are equally qualified to lead this country from day one. I prefer Obama, because I so admire his courage and wisdom and judgment in opposing the war in Iraq back in 2002. I just wish more of the media would challenge Hillary on this claim that she has the edge on experience.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Hey Grace,
Remember Howard Dean was in the lead too at this time four years ago. White House staffers said that since the summer of 1999 there have been at least 26 instances in which people, mainly couples, were overnight guests after donating to the first lady's campaign or promising to do so. . . "The Lincoln Bedroom was never sold," Clinton said in 1997, when the White House released a list of 938 guests who had spent the night at the executive mansion up to that point in the Clinton presidency. The list included the names of political supporters, as well as entertainment luminaries and old Clinton friends

CASTLE GRANDE

1999 Mrs. Clinton is mentioned 36 times in the fraud indictment against Webster Hubbell. Writes the AP's Peter Yost: "Starr alleges Hubbell concealed his own and Mrs. Clinton's work during the 1980s on a failed Arkansas land deal, known as Castle Grande, that federal regulators say was riddled with 'insider dealing, fictitious sales and land flips.'" Yost notes the criminal contempt trial of Susan McDougal: "The indictment against Mrs. McDougal details a series of grand jury questions about Mrs. Clinton and Castle Grande that Mrs. McDougal refused to answer." The Castle Grande project involved a baroque set of deals aimed at least in part in shoring up the McDougal's failing savings and loan.

Not until the immaculate reconception of Mrs. Clinton's billing records in 1996 did her extensive role in the matter come to light. Billing records documenting HRC's work on the Castle Grande development scam were discovered in the family quarters of the White House. HRC said she has no idea how they got there.

She also claimed that she could not remember her work on the project nor 15 conversations with Hubbell's wheeler-dealer father-in-law, Seth Ward. In the end, Castle Grande cost the S&L nearly $4 million in unpaid principal and interest.
Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

New I poll just released. You know, Obama really is not saint, angel or divine being. He's had his slip-ups and he has CERTAINLY attacked Hillary Clinton. I urge many of you to re watch the Philadelphia debate. Drawing distinctions and attacking both have a fine line, but once Senator Clinton does it people cry wolf. But you know, I love that there is a rigorous vetting process going here and that Obama isn't getting the flack he deserves. The republicans will not give up without a big fight whether it's Senator Clintor OR Senator Obama. And trust me there will be electibility issues with him already - his polling on the electibility issue among Dems is MUCH lower than Senator Clinton already. So the argument panders to engendered Republican myths and not a truly open and fair Democratic primary process. I hope for all our sakes we take a closer look at some sanctified candidates if we truly hope to win in '08.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Hey Iowa....Whats that in the sky? He was a top fundraiser for Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

His connection to Obama began when the future senator got national attention as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. Rezko was impressed by what he read and offered Obama a job.

The two men kept in contact and he became one of the earliest donors to Obama's campaign when he ran for a state Senate seat in 1996.

Their relationship came into the spotlight last October, the same month Rezko was indicted on federal charges, with the disclosure that Rezko had played a role in the senator's purchase of a home.

Obama bought a house and lot. Rezko's wife bought an undeveloped property next door. The two parcels had once been a single tract of land.

Obama paid $1.65 million for the house and lot while Rezko paid $625,000 for the undeveloped lot. Six months later, Rezko sold a strip of his property to Obama, who wanted to increase the size of his side yard. Obama paid Rezko $104,500, which he says was the market rate.

While Obama has said that the transaction was handled ethically, he has conceded the perception of favor-trading it created was a "boneheaded" mistake.

Rezko is charged with plotting to shake down money management firms hoping to do business with the Illinois Teachers Retirement System, a $39 billion state pension fund, for kickbacks.

He also is charged with swindling the General Electric Capitol Corp. out of $10 million in a deal involving the purchase of pizza restaurants.

Rezko attorney Joseph J. Duffy declined to comment on the case.

While Obama turned down Rezko's offer of a job back in 1991, he ended up in a group of real estate deals involving the developer anyway. He accepted a position at the law firm then known as Davis Miner & Barnhill.

At the firm, he represented community groups that partnered with a developer in getting city and state housing rehabilitation loans. The developer was Rezko. Obama estimates he did only about five hours of work.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Van: Everything in politics seems to be filtered through a narrative, the media does and the campaigns do. For example, every little think B.H. Clinton has been doing of late. And THAT is why she has been getting so much negative press. (The media have already locked the election for her if she wins Iowa, which she won't, so quit fretting about that). So, maybe people should worry less about the media and more about the campaign and what they bring. Quit shutting down the conversations with substance. Sounds to me like people believe in H.R. Clinton's right, inevitability or chances to be the next President more than what she stands for and who she is. What makes you think your candidate is so special that she deserves special treatment? It's not like she's The Queen--that title goes to Oprah!

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

These kinds of posts just crack me up:
"Even die-hard Hillary fans are being turned off by Mark Penn and his antics."
Eric, NY, NY (Sent Friday, December 14, 2007 3:44 PM)"

We are, are we?
I just L.M.F.A.O. at idiots like you.
I'm guessing you've never even been in the same room with a die-hard Hillary fan, O Wise One!

---
Poll lesson for the day:
Check poll org against poll org, not poll against poll. You see, we all know that that corrupt witch is the Karl Rove of the democratic party. Hillary says that we shouldn’t put Obama up against the GOP because he hasn’t been vetted. Actually, he HAS been thoroughly vetted – by Hillary Clinton’s sleazy little minions.

If anything, what is absolutely clear from the ridiculous indiscriminate spray of attacks that she has subjected the Obama campaign to over the last several months, is that they don’t have ANYTHING on Obama besides what’s already in the public realm. When you dig up something a guy wrote in kindergarten to try to paint him as overly ambitious. You have nothing. If all they had to work with was teenage drug use that he already wrote about, you have nothing.

Our current republican president and the previous democratic president have BOTH used drugs in their youth as well, so obviously that’s not a disqualifier for becoming president.

Hillary will try every sleazy trick on him. It’s all in how Obama handles it, which, up to this point, he’s doing very well. If he can make it through to cinch the nomination, we’ll know he’s tough enough. If he can stand up to OUR Karl Rove, he can stand up to the GOP’s version.

Obama 2008

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Oh my God, are we now comparing her to Bush? Arnold Schwarzenegger ran against an incumbent Governor Davis and won. Arnold never had one day of prior experience in government. But Davis had lots of experience but he was not inspiring and likeable. Most people do not vote with their heads but with their hearts. Bill Clinton is a very likeable character and the society was ready to over-look the frailties of his personal life and he won re-election. It is the same with President W. Bush.

Senator Obama is likeable, appears genuine and authentic and exudes confidence way and above politicians with his experience. Since he was not convicted on cocaine charges and he voluntarily shared his use of cocaine, he is going to win sympathy from the voters and the outcome is very predictable.
Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

The Bush comparisons seem more INEVITABLE than her winning the early primaries. That's a stretch.

She consistently has negatives in the high 40s. Not mathematically impossible to win, but pretty tough.

You win general elections on two points. First is having your side more energized than the other. Second is winning among independents. Clinton isn't a good candidate for either.

She would energize Republicans more than any other Democrat, and I'll include Lyndon Larouche in that statement.

The independents thing is more a gut feeling on my part, as opposed to the above paragraph, which is political truism. Independents value trust more than members of either party - at least that's what the talking heads say. Clinton came into this campaign with questions about her integrity, and whether fairly or unfairly, those negative perceptions have only been reinforced.

In short, she's the one candidate on the Democratic side who couldn't win (okay, Kucinich makes two).

Just my two cents.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

HILLARY ROCKS ! Its a small but influential blog of New Hampshire progressive activists and Democratic Party insiders. They welcome campaign staffers, but ask that they indicate their status when registering.

Blue Hampshire just days ago kicked out four registered members. The four failed to note their positions in the Clinton campaign when they registered.

The website grew suspicious at what seemed like "coordinated" activities by the four. Then noticed the four had registered within minutes of one another. Then, Blue Hampshire was able to track the IP address for all four back to a single Clinton campaign computer.

The Clinton campaign is taking this latest embarrassment seriously. According to the Blue Hampshire website, the Clinton state chair in New Hampshire said these were the actions of "overzealous" supporters acting outside the campaign.

Funny in that the line is getting so old. "Oh, he's just the national co-chair, but obviously acting outside the campaign." Also, kind of makes you wonder who we have with us here on First Read.

Think back to all those times we've seen "BillC" and "Chelsea" promote the Clinton campaign website. Hmmm. Probably not Bill and Chelsea, but then it only shows this propensity to use false identities. In fact, false identities are flaunted in our faces.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Now admittedly Dick Morris and Hillary Clinton have little love for each other but I was amused by his article with Eileen McGann written for Real Clear Polics today. Here is an excerpt:

By stressing experience, Hillary is basing her campaign on a fraud. Like her Senate race, which was premised on the obvious lie that she wanted to be a New Yorker, her presidential race is rooted in the fabrication that she was the principal actress in her husband's presidency.

In fact, she was an observer (a close-up one, to be sure); at most a kibitzer, sending in advice from time to time but surely not a principal.

Yes, she had actual line responsibility, in the first two years of his presidency - a time of dismal failure. But her role from late 1995 to 1997 was scarcely more than a traditional first lady's: She toured the country, wrote books, cut ribbons and traveled the world.

Even her return to a role of power - when the Lewinsky scandal all but closed down the Clinton presidency at the start of 1998 - was only in the realm of damage control, not as a formulator of public policy. Then, the final year of Bill's tenure saw her absorbed in her own Senate campaign, no longer much interested in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., except as a springboard.

To me this says what I actually believe to be the truth about Hillary's alleged preparedness to be president. This illusion of supreme readiness could do a great disservice to the voting public but I feel that most remember enough of the truth not to be fooled by this chicanery.
Obama '08
Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Here we go again >>>>>> hillaryclinton.com

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Help Unite The Republican Party......Nomnate Hillary Clinton "08"

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

The white House and Obama o.k don't forget jesse jackson and al sharpton to his cabinet. Would'nt even you or me be ready for anything on day 1. Such another stupid statement from a campaign in a Freefall. I missed a lot yesterday, but I've been reading this morning. 1st of all, Bee, i'd bet the farm there is plenty of Carrie's all over Iowa. For those who say Barack's race will somehow keep him from winning, i'd just havta say, tell that to heartland of America, which has seen him alot this year. Evidently his race is'nt playing very badly on their minds to have him polling 1st nowadays. Or to the people of New Hampshire, who have him polling 1st there Now.The times i've seen Barack, i've noticed in the background, lot's of Caucasion's seem to be taking the time out of their busy schedules to come & listen to him. So for all of you that bring Race into this campaign, "You're a Racist from the getgo" & your vote was'nt ever going to be for Barack.

"Being accused of lying tends to piss me off. Honest people tend to not like being accused of being dishonest.
Carrie, Eastern Iowa (Sent Friday, December 14, 2007 2:27 PM

Carrie , i read all the comment's on here in full & this week you seem to be on a Rampage. You want barack to come to you personally & explain his PAST drug use, even tho, by your comment's all week, No answer he can give, will Ever convince you to vote for him. You claim to be for Biden, yet You personally jump into Hail the Queen at every oppurtunity. If you are such an ardent Biden supporter, why not continuosly have your comment's as to why we should vote for him. I like Biden also, Just not for POTUS. Barack answered the Past drug use question when bringing it out in the open, I'd suggest you read his book for further answer's (which from what i can tell, is'nt gonna Convince you either). Back to your comment i copied & pasted, I'd say Barack is much like you in that regard, as Lies were being told upon his Character & he has responded accordingly. You may not like his response, but he responded, quite well as far as i'm concerned, & by other's who have moved on about this.

I've seen other's in the past post that they're like me & want to see an end to the Politics of Personal Destruction. I'm offerng this follow-up because I noticed it was actually more than four registrations they received from the same Clinton campaign computer.

Also, that last userID sounded familiar. "kmeisje." Didn't we have someone here using that name?

-----

Recently, we admins noticed this comment thread on a recommended diary, and the oddities it posed made us look a little deeper than we normally would.
As the comment thread revealed, users pinballwizard, elf, shley24, MTAY all registered in succession to recommend the diary. A further look by us revealed that:

* they had registered within minutes of each other, including another user a bit later, janbaby, who was not among the recommenders,
* the same IP address was used by all of them, and is registered to the Clinton campaign,
* two other recommenders, blues and kmeisje, also registered from the same IP address.

To be clear, and to reiterate what's stated in our Getting Started page: paid campaign staff are welcome in this community, but are asked to disclose their affiliation to a campaign, either through their signature line, a disclosure statement on a diary, or even in the choosing of a username. The fact that all the users mentioned above came from a Clinton campaign IP, but did not register with campaign email addresses, and avoided making comments or diaries, instead only recommending pro-Clinton diaries, strikes us as gaming the system and a form of "recommend astroturf." As a result, we have banned those accounts, and will do so again for undisclosed paid staffers of any campaign if need be.

We have spoken with Kathleen Strand, who assured us that this was not an orchestrated effort but the product of over-eager staffers and volunteers, done without her awareness, and that it will not be repeated. We appreciate her responsiveness and believe that this may indeed be a misunderstanding of low-level staffers of the norms of the site.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Ellis B. While this is obvious, people are also beginning to see past the Clinton rhetoric that she supports mainstream America and the working class. If this were so, why does more than 70% of her campaign money come from corporate America and special interest? Are people dumb enough to believe Hillary has not sold her soul in order to make history and provide Bill a third term and a new intern staff? People wrote that she was almost a co-president - yet, on the one major official duty she was charged with fixing - health care - she failed totally. But these apologists then say that that wasn't HER fault as Bill was the president, not Hillary! Come on! What pathetic reasoning! I have read other comments on this First Read forum that Abraham Lincoln served only one term in Congress - two years - before becoming president, in addition to his time in the Illinois State Legislature. All of the Democrats running have more experience than Lincoln had when he ran in 1860. But it is the wisdom and judgment and honesty of a person that is really important. On all of those fronts, Hillary is woefully lacking. She sided with George Bush on the two major foreign policy issues - Iraq and Iran. As I stated before, she was a total flop in trying to remedy health care. Her current campaign is a complete mess - kindergarten-gate, Shaheen and Penn, etc. Also, if she is so proud of her role in the White House, why are she and Bill stonewalling on disclosing all of the records of those years? We need a healer - not a polarizer - as the next president. Obama is going to be that person.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

in as little as 20 days we will all know how this race is shaping up. we will know if hillary is on a downward turn or remaining steady. we will find out if john gains some momentum so he can garnish the much needed donations to acquire matching funds so he can compete at the same level as hillary and obama, we will see if obama truly has the momentum that the polls indicate. we will see if richardson gains enough ground to stay in the race. i think dodd, kucinich and biden will be done. i don't like that because i think biden is a fantastic candidate to be in the race. i would like to see him be able to go deep in this race. if he would accept it, he would make a really good v.p. and advisor.

no matter whoever wins the democratic nomination i will support. that includes hillary. i just think that the democratic candidates are a cut above any gop candidate.

Clinton talks endorsement, E-word

Rick:

I frequently post about Biden, which you would know if you really did read all the posts here as you claim you do.

I didn't say that I expect Obama to personally apologize to me. I said that he opened the door to questions about his drug use, and he is now obliged to answer those questions. I would say the same thing about any other candidate who admitted to using cocaine.

If Obama gets the nomination, I will happily vote for him. I won't caucus for him, however, because I think there are better candidates than him. I prefer Biden to all of the other potential nominees.
