I say at the very least give smokers a bar every few miles where it's OK, set aside just for people who want to do that, because to do otherwise is just going too far; they're killing no one but themselves, which you can't say about drunk drivers. Pot smokers should be at the bottom of the list of concerns from a public safety standpoint, given zero reported deaths in five thousand years.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

I can drive wasted while women submit to me. Come on, this is a modern day witch hunt.

And the sad thing is, by the time science will have proven this beyond a reasonable doubt; cars will navigate themselves. So we won't have to worry about talking, or drinking, or getting lost. What will be lost, however, is our tax money keeping someone who failed to signal in jail for 6 years because he had a couple of beers for happy hour.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Huckabee supports the Fair Tax plan, and will gain large support for his campaign the more he talks about it.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

It's amazing none of the media hounds seems to be checking out the Salon.com artile - "The darkk side of huckabee" It was a real eye opener for me. Of course that's what suspicions are, hunches, gut feelings, the things that can't be proven. Basically, the people who had no actual say or legal authority in the matter are being quoted that they don't necessarily agree with the governor's clemency. There are so many things wrong with the scenario painted in this article it is hard to imagine. But let us begin.

First, if the ramifications of this person's offence were so heinous, I wonder why there aren't more than just opinions levelled at the matter. Drunk-driving is incredibly bad, and it is opportunities like this offense that the staff of riteousness should be raised to combat the disease. However, instead this man was not burned at the stake and it was not until the after the governor's clemency that people disagreed with the act, rather than make it exceptionally clear that there was an everpresent danger at the inception of his crimes, and not at the fifth one. In a well orded society, a person would not be gradually dealt with as the same offense grows in number, but rather he would be treated seriously by the laws and enforcement at the very beginning, before the possibility of a trend occurs. I would personally rather see law enforcement be tough on crime rather than, say, tough-enough. Secondly, the parole board is slightly more responsible than the governor for being in the position to actually offer the opportunity for clemency. An entire boardroom of people agreed "unanimously" to give this guy a free ride, and the rest of the judicial system in Arkansas feels it is better to allow this to happen than to act differently or in opposition to future occasions. In this case the morality of the board must be in question along with the governor, as well as the judicial and jail system in its entirety. This does not look like a case that should be singled out for one person's actions. Yet, since the article would like to make Huckabee the scapegoat on behalf of the entire state of Arkansas, then I guess we must question him in that regard. I like where this is going, because the only reason this article was written was not to question the governor's actions against a drunk driver or a judicial system but by a suspected connection with possible lascivious fundraising activites. Thirdly, the governor, or government in general, did not control anyone's actions. Huckabee did not force this guy's wife to donate to the Republican party, and even in the article it shows that they have donated before, so they already have precedence in the matter, anways. There was no contract, there was no paper trail, there were no smoking-gun conversations between them. The evidence is with Huckabee rather than against him.

Everyone in this country has free will and exercises it as they choose. In order to type, I must write of my own accord. To go to work, I must walk or drive. I do not have to do anything if I do not want to. Mr. Fields did not have to drink and drive, he did. That's bad, but due to the desires of the American people, as illustrated by this case, apparently the state of Arkansas won't be enforcing stronger legislation on the matter of drunk driving antyiem soon. Mrs. Fields did not have to donate, she did. If you are a Democrat, you might think that is a bad thing, but at this point in our nation's history, people still have the right to give money to whomever they choose and not be criticized unduly for it. Governor Huckabee had the right to grant clemency and he did. The people of Arkansas could build more jails, they don't. Maybe witht the improved school system Huckabee created for Arkansas, those kids won't grow up o become drunk drivers like this Mr. Fields.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Cmon, President Huckabee. I don't think so

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Why did this fool still have a driving license?

Should have been revoked for life. Let him walk or ride a bike.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

This guy is a real piece of work.

http://www.realmikehuckabee.blogspot.com/

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

who are Domenico Montanaro and Anna Nawaz?
There is not a governor nor a president that have not excercised their pardon powers. Bush... Clinton. It is time for someone from the Northeast or West Coast. This man lacks the charisma of Clinton and the scare tactics of Bush. If nominated, he will only carry Southern states. He will not get a Northeast or West state. I highly doubt his ability to even carry Utah, which always votes conservative. The Republicans stand no chance if they foolishly nominate this dirty preacher. So, Southerners, listen up: I know you feel all powerful after you mandated Bush into a second term. But, we will reject Huckabee if you nominate him. My advice, vote for someone who actually stands a chance-Guiliani (has good charisma, nice record in NYC, excellent leadership experience) or Romney (excellent business person, good morals, very intelligent, good record in Massachusetts). What does Huckabee have to offer? What did he do in Arkansas? Guiliani lowered the crime rate drastically in NYC. He cleaned the largest city in the country up. I've been to Manhattan many times. I feel very safe there. Guiliani made it that way. What did Romney do? He actually acheived universal health care coverage in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. That is a huge accomplishment. What did Huckabee do? Well... this article I guess talks about the kind of things he did. Guiliani and Romney were trained to be in leadership/political positions. Romney even went to Harvard. Huckabee, as he loves to brag about, got his degree in theism. Which, I guess tranied him to be a preacher. Well, maybe then that's what he should do. In short, Southerners: stop alienating the rest of the country. Keep your redneck. We want a leader. Guiliani or Romney or Democrat--Got it???

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

This guy is the real Deal! He is going to make a great President. Give him a chance. He was the Governor and had the ability to grant clemency. I raised my eye browse when I heard of the individuals that President Clinton grant clemency. There is usually information that these men of government have at their disposal they "we the people" don't know about.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

This and all the other slime I'm learning about Huckabee makes me want to throw up.
<P>
The man is not fit to run for anything.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

I'm a Republican. But, if this loser wins, for the sake of our country, I will vote Democrat.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

This is like Mark Rich was to Clinton. A purchased pardon. Why pardon a 4 time DWI loser to offend a 5th time? Mr.Huckabee did what he believed was right, just like many of you would have done.To scrutinize his political ethics and possible lack of good leadership should be done with the kindness and wisdom not too often found in the world. If any of you have never committed sin or even made a dreadful mistake or decision. Then, let that person cast the first stone. In any state, but more recently in California, they will chase a offender or breaker of the law for miles.Through towns, city streets and alleys.Always, wanting to gain and maintain control of the situation without violence.Though at times the chances of stopping these people will have to be by force. This could spill over into the civilians with injury and or financial ruin always possible. So what do you do? Do you say he's a crook because of the $10,000 that the Fields donated to the Republican party? Remind yourselves that Mr. Fields had a unanimous decision from the board. The dollars given to the political party wasn't put in Huckabees hands or bank account. As you strongly are implying. The funds were given to the party. As to spend on the explaination for the betterment of understanding of the Republican wing's stand on the issues at hand. Are you thinking that the parole board were all Republicans? This is no different than Ms. Clinton recieving campain donations from a known crook a few months ago. Are we to condemn her for the recievership of funds from this man? When she wasn't proven to be privy to his illegal doings? Judge the man as the man he is. Take the beam from your own eye before you accaust him for only doing what his convictions told him to do. When do any of us have the right to look down our noses at what he did or didn't do? If at any time we would have that right, it would be after we have walked in his shoes and faced the same questions. Do you condemn the police for chasing a car thief through heavy traffic? When the odds say, this perpatrator will kill himself and have a better than 50/50 chance of killing others with him. So to save these civilians and innocent people from the potential of harm from this bad guy. What should the police do? Shoot out his tires? Run him off the road? Risk their own life to save yours? Oops! Theres that beam issue again.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

If Republicans send Huckabee to the general, then we really are the dumb party.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

HMT - Huckabees past is oozing out day by day. What a shame the media did not do the same with George Bush---think of what the country could have been saved from

\\\\\\\\\\\

This country was saved, from the moronic rantings of Al Gore, and the weird royality of John Kerry. Huckabee's 2004 decision..." Nowhere does it tell us who is raising the questions. If you're going to do the work of an opposition research team, how about identifying who it is? Why wasn't this done? Questions don't just come floating down out of the ether -- they are being asked by specific people. We have a right as part of an article like this to know who. MSNBC needs to keep this first and foremost in their minds as we head into campaign season.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Did this story originate with the newspaper or was it the result of opposition research done by the Republican Party? The story smells like the rumors spread against John McCain, in South Carolina, when the republican leadership smeared him with half-truths. The bad press is also like that of the swift-boating of John Kerry. As with Howard Dean it is weird to watch political parties eat their own. The similarity between Dean and Huckabee, that stands out, is both appear to be populists. The last person the establishment wants in office is someone who actually understands that the Constitution was intended to protect citizens from corporate and government abuse, not to facilitate it.

Believing the interpretation of laws by government lawyers is like trusting dating tips from Ted Bundy. Unless there is proof that Huckabee solicited contributions from Fields for a pardon there is no story here. Although, there is, arguably, a story about the stupidity of journalists trusting hit pieces that originate from Republican Party leaders and operatives.

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Dan Easley- right on. think about what a mess this country would be if gore or kerry had got elected.
scary.
rob- i don't listen to people who call others biggots. and neither do other people. it is as bad as being a bigot yourself.
and half the things you mentioned are untruths.
Joe Berkeley-
in your defence. you are right on.
many of the things huck is acused of and blamed for were out of his power to control.
would you rather have somebody who was stepping past legal lines to do what you want them to do? i mean break the law? no. or i hope not. so mike was obeying the law in many of these situations. he could not keep the parole board from granting parole. the congress ordered that a tax be implemented.
etc.
hey, all you who call your self free thinking americans.
do some actuall honest research with an open mind.
don't believe what the media says.
especially nbc/cbs/cnn.
take some time out of your "busy" (watching tv) time and actually do the research for yourself and don't let the media brainwash yourself.
i did it.
i started as one who was a staunch anti-huckabee. i wouldn't have voted for him if you had payed me. but looking for ways to prove his unworthiness to tell others i realized that i was possibly way wrong. so i did some honest to goodness research and now i proudly support huckabee.
God bless him and you all.
ps i pray for all the cantidates. it's hard tho to pray for certain ones left unnamed.
:)
pps huck is gonna win the nom whether you like it or not. and then hes gonna stomp hillary or obama.
just watch.
especialy with this heavyweight reagen helper dude ED Rollins.
mark my words.
:)
DWI clemency/donations spur questions

oh and mark; his fundraising this quarter will be upwards of 10 million by the way. just judging by the online fundraisng.
and his organization is getting pretty amazing.
by the way- he is ahead in 6 out of 7 of the states before 'super tuesday' and ahead or competitive in many of those.
and he has a huge personal appeal and amazing communication skills.
so mark my words: huck will win

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

Do you think the Bible belt cares if he destroyed all of the AK computers, released sex offenders, released DWI felons, lied about his 'theology' degree???

NO!!

They only care about one thing, the Bible. And they talk about all of the "Christian Values" they have over everyone else.

I will vote principle intergrity this election, maybe all if you tin-hat Bible followers should do the same!

DWI clemency/donations spur questions

I have to laugh for many reasons this morning. Please let's get a grip. You can blow intoxicated and have had 1 glass of wine for dinner. Pa-leze! Then, your license is suspended, you can't drive to work, you have to go through a program. Give me a break, the laws have entangled us. Do these folks really need to be behind bars with murderers and rapists? That is where they go and they are not separated. Huckabee tried to make things equal when he granted clemency--the legal system is not always fair and equal.
