I notice you guys tend to paint Mitt as short-tempered and defensive. I have read several accounts of this exchange today and they didn't insenuate that he was particularly testy. I like that, although his handlers tried to take questions off the table, Mitt stood up and answered the questions. By one report I read (from one of the Boston papers, I believe), the crowd was impressed that he answered the questionnaire and liked his answers. In the internet age, communication travels fast and wide, but reporters still have the ability to change the tone with words like "annoyed," "fired back," and "irritated." Maybe he was aggravated and maybe he wasn't, but when reporters add these kind of descriptive words they do influence the reader's understanding of the event. Perhaps that's appropriate in a blog, but readers should know that those kinds of words don't necessarily reflect the event as much as the reporter's view of the event.

glen beck endorses romney and then we find out from other sources that beck indeed is a mormon. why did he not disclose this fact when he endorsed him? just like howie kurtz of reliable sources pretends to be unbiased and we find out his wife is a high powered republican operative. yea that's real impartial. both sides should have to disclose conflicts of interest... that is if there were any real liberal news media out there.

The "questionnaire" referred to in this article is a leaflet published by NH Peace Action and the American Friends Service Committee's NH Program. The three sets of questions are:

1) If you do not favor a rapid withdrawal of U.S. troops and military bases, how do you propose to pay for our long-term military presence in Iraq?

2) Do you agree with former Secreataries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz that the United States should pursue the negotiatied elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide? Will you uphold the UN Security Council resolution, supported by former President George H. W. Bush, which calls for establishment of a nuclar weapons-free zone in the Middle East? Do you believe the U.S. should state clearly that we will not be the first to use nuclear weapons?

3) What steps would you favor to put the United States and Iran on the path toward diplomatic conflict resolution instead of another ill-conceived war?

Romney was outraged at Huckabee's comments about Bush although Huckabee's comments were exactly right. Romney plans nothing new were he to be elected president - just more of the same from the Bush/Cheney playbook. Romney twists and turns with every question, trying to adapt his past statements and positions to the demands of a group skeptical religious conservatives. Rudy G. has the same problem. Pandering is as pandering does and even some Republicans have had enough of the imperial, secretive presidency of GW Bush. Romney would continue the "unified executive" approach to governing to the detriment of our nation. None of these Republican candidates, with the possible exception of Huckabee and Ron Paul, understand or support the concept of checks and balances and they certainly view the Constitution as applicable only when it fits their agenda. Romney reminds of the character Max Headroom - there's nothing there, there.

WHAT DO MORMONS BELIEVE?

Mormons are some of the most exemplary human beings, especially in regard to their behavior patterns and their adherence to the fundamental values of our society. But their religious beliefs are, to put is simply, wrong. They believe that an angel named Moroni left some gold tablets in upstate New York and that these tablets were discovered by a man named Joseph Smith. From these tablets, Joseph Smith "translated" the Book of Mormon, which is the foundation upon which Mormonism is built. Mormons also consider two other books, Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price, to be divinely inspired.

Mormonism differs from biblical Christianity in several areas. Mormons do not believe, for example, that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Mormons must work their way to heaven. (B. R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine (Salt Lake City:1958), p. 191.)

Mormonism teaches that God is not the only deity and that we all have the potential of becoming gods. (Ibid., p. 576.) (Remember that Satan's fall came about because he wanted to be like God.) God, according to Mormons, is not just Spirit but has "a body of flesh and bones as tangible as a man's." (Doctrine and Covenants, 130:22.) They teach, "As we are, he was. As he is, we shall become." (Joseph Smith, "The King Follett Discourse," p. 9.) There has been constant revision of Mormon doctrine over the years, as church leaders have changed their minds on a number of subjects including polygamy, which was once sanctioned by the church.

In summary, the Mormon church is a prosperous, growing organization that has produced many people of exemplary character. But when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.

Leon, it's never been a secret that Glen Beck is a Mormon. He's answered questions on CNN about it before. There was no reason for him to get on TV and say "I'm a Mormon, and so I support Mitt the Mormon". Perhaps Glenn is a little more well-rounded than that and supports Mitt because he's a good politician... now there's a thought. Religion should not have anything to do with it.

Here we have the name/titles of the three creation Gods. Except for Michael the identities of Eloheem and Jehovah are not spelled out. Brigham Young mentioned, "It is true that the earth was organized by three distinct characters, namely, Eloheim, Yahovah, and Michael . . ." (Journal of Discourses 1:51, 9 April 1852).

In this same discourse (as published) President Brigham Young said:

When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. . . . the seed was brought from another sphere, and planted in this earth. . . . When Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden fruit, their bodies became mortal from its effects, and therefore their offspring were mortal" (Journal of Discourses 1:50, emphasis in original).
Joseph Lee Robinson also recorded what Brigham Young taught:

Oct. 6th. Attended conference, a very interesting conference, for at this meeting President Brigham Young said thus, that Adam and Eve were the names of the first man and woman of every earth that was ever organized and that Adam and Eve were the natural father and mother of every spirit that comes to this planet, or that received tabernacles on this planet, consequently we are brother and sisters, and that Adam was God, or Eternal Father" (Joseph Lee Robinson Journal, 6-8 Oct. 1854, LDS archives, typed copy).

I love that you and those like you spend so much time spreading hate and misinformation about me and my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. See, what you must not relize is that you do so much more good than bad. My nieghbors, family & friends that know me, my husband and five wonderfully awesome children and have a also been in my home keep asking more and more questions because what you anti-mormon "christians" are spewing just does not ring true to anyone with half a brain.
See, I grew up being taught what you believe about mormons, but when I got to know some first hand, I knew I must have been lied to.
Never in my 23 years now as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have I ever heard anyone try to teach about or critizise anothers faith.
Which makes sence, for we do try to live by the 10 commandments. And last I check one is to not bear false witness.

Once again you miss the point of my discourse.I also brought up howie kurtz but you do not bring him up because it does not directly apply to you and your candidate.my point is these talking heads (yes beck is as rabid as I have seen, remember he was happy that some celebrities were losing their homes in california.i saw that piece myself)have agendas and are not pure as the driven snow.they have the airwaves but mr. and mrs. middle class do not. my main point -do not pretend to be unbiased when in reality your arguement is one sided in order to prop up one candidate and destroy others. there should be a measure of journalistic integrity with beck and others there is none.

So then I guess that Robert is then a religious man? would you say otherwise? If so then why even bother spreading seeds of discord? Unless you choose to worship a God that endorses such an action... that God could not be Jesus because he didnt, and dare I say, wouldnt go out of his way to rip on the Sadducees or the Pharisees or the beleifes of ANYONE for that matter. So the obvious answer is that you must worship a god that isn't very mainstream... so YOU must be a part of a cult. Is my accusation wrong? if so and you do worship Christ... then you better stick to reading about him and his life because you are a little out of touch I think.

Mitt Romney Flip Flopping again

A photograph of GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney at a 1994 Planned Parenthood fund-raiser has surfaced, once again raising questions about the former Bay State’s governor’s abortion flip-flopping.

The picture, a copy of which was obtained by the Herald, shows Romney and his wife Ann at a house party fund-raiser in Scituate with Nicki Nichols Gamble, who was the president of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts at the time. Romney has already downplayed ties to Planned Parenthood after revelations that Ann Romney donated $150 to the group.

Gamble said the pic was snapped at an event at GOP activist Eleanor Bleakie’s house and that she “clearly” remembered speaking with Romney at the event. At the time, Romney was running as a pro-choice Republican against U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“My recollection is that we talked about his senate candidacy and the fact that he was supporting Roe v. Wade and a choice agenda at the time,” Gamble told the Herald. “It was a Planned Parenthood event. We were there to discuss our programs and our advocacy.”

The event was held the same day Ann Romney wrote a check to the pro-choice group. Romney has previously said he had “no recollection” of his wife writing the check to Planned Parenthood.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom called the flap “a dog bites man story.”

“Governor Romney used to have a different position on abortion,” Fehrnstrom said. “He is now firmly pro-life and has made it clear that as President he will advocate for a culture that welcomes life and protects the sanctity of life. This is the same path that Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush followed.”

Because of his abortion shift, Romney has been branded a flip-flopper by his GOP primary opponents, as well Democrats. Romney has stated he became pro-life in 2004 during the stem cell debate in Massachusetts.

Beyond attending the event, Romney filled out a 2002 questionnaire for the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund in which he said he supported Roe v. Wade, sex education in schools and increased access to emergency contraception.

“With Mitt Romney, this has been more than a flip-flop. This has been an extreme makeover,” said Planned Parenthood spokesman Angus McQuilken. “What voters need to know about Mitt Romney is this: where he stands on any issue is always a moving target.”

All I can say to Robert is that he must have been very mad at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for some reason. I really believe that inorder for him to research and know so much about the church...he must have been offended in some way. I have come to find that MOST people who go after the LDS church have been members at one time or another and now have a chip on their shoulder. They want to hurt the church the way they FEEL the church or some other member has hurt their pride, self esteem or whatever it is those negative people are upset about. So I say to all of you people out there defending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints honor...why waste your time or breath. I have learned that when I argue or try to talk to those kinds of people it makes me angry and negative...NOT worth my valuable time or fair to my family.
