I have to say that hindsight's 20/20...I don't believe any of the candidates would say they have made the right decision the first time all of the time. If she manages to remotely pin this on Obama, she brings down two birds (Obama and Edwards) with one stone. Except, Obama hasn't had every vote right the first time and despite pressure from backers that he should link Clinton's and Edwards' Iraq war vote to the painful casualties, he NEVER DID - look it up.

The only person I know who has been hammering Edwards on his Senate record is Congressman Kucinich. Maybe that is why the DMR stopped him from attending the debate. No one talks about Edwards' Senate record at all but Congressman Kucinich. Also, Congressman Kucinich likes to let everyone know that he got it right the first time on all issues. I'm not sure whose campaign was responsible for this.

BUT, I will say, that while I really like and agree with a lot of the the things Edwards is saying on the campaign trail - railing against special interests in Washington and the "Two Americas" - I think that Edwards actions don't come close to living up to his rhetoric.

He voted for the Iraq War, he voted for the bankruptcy bill, he voted for No Child Left Behind, he has accumulated $55 million in net worth from suing doctors, hospitals and the American Red Cross (3 times for the ARC), worked for a hedge fund in 2005 that was based out of the Cayman Islands (the same kind of offshore company that Edwards always rails against) and specialized in subprime mortgages that have taken advantage of poorer people, bought a 100 acre estate in North Carolina where he built a 28,000 mansion, and has received numerous $400+ haircuts from a celebrity stylist. Not to mention, Edwards sponsored no legislation in his 6 years as senator that combatted special interests.

And so if you were to ask me if I think that Edwards is sincere in his heated rhetoric against rich, powerful, special interests? I'm just not buying it. I honestly believe that his advisers/pollsters told him that he'd have the best chance of winning the Democratic nomination if he switched from being a centrist, Southern Democrat (which he was as senator) to a very liberal, populist candidate.

I'm not sure if I trust him to bring about change and represent true, Democratic/liberal ideals any more than I trust Hillary Clinton too. I'd vote for Obama, Richardson, Biden, Dodd, or even Kucinich before Edwards or Clinton.

Ava - Hillary wouldn't need to eviscerate Edwards later (unless she just wants to because old habits are hard to break and its fun for her).

Edwards, after winning Iowa, would have no where to go. He won't win New Hampshire or South Carolina. I really don't know how he'd do in Nevada, but that seems like a lesser of the earlies. He's certainly not going to do well in Michigan.

I think FIRST READ is missing the boat here. The most likely candidate to put this out is GOV. BILL RICHARDSON. He has the most to gain by bringing down Sen. Edwards and smearing Sen Biden by implication.

Interestingly, the tag line -- We need someone who gets it right the first time -- is really a Rep. Kucinich line. But, I would expect Kucinich to come right out and tout the video. Unless he is still upset with Sen. Biden for leaving him off of the "Joe is Right" advertisement.

I think Bill RICHARDSON's campaign may be the culprit.

When I began reading this post, I expected a personal attack on Edwards, because that was what we have been seeing recently.

cms, Edwards voted for an earlier bankruptcy bill that, while imperfect, actually closed some loopholes that allowed people to scam the system. You're thinking of the tremendously mean spirited 2005 bankruptcy bill that even the credit card companies didn't push for. Biden was a major pusher of the bill and Clinton didn't vote either way. Dodd and Obama voted no but Obama opposed an amendment limiting credit card interest to 30% (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00020). Like the video said, that was then, this is now. Sad fact is that 90% of the American public would have "voted" for the war, and Edwards talked then about how important it would be for the administration to "get it right" by providing security while a new Iraqi gov't was being formed. Tom Friedman and Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria said the same thing (Guess George and Dick weren't listening.)

The problems with NCLB are mostly due to implementation and poor funding, and you can't blame a senator for that. What we need is a president who can look at the facts in front of him, recognize an error, and CHANGE COURSE before it's too late. Edwards is the anti-Bush, the 180-degree turn from the stubborn and narrow-minded thinking that got us into the mess we're in today.

BTW, Edwards co-sponsored 203 bills in the Senate, was the first to introduce anti-spyware legislation, played a key role in developing patient's rights bill, and worked closely with McCain on campaign finance reform. He also spent about six months saving Bill Clinton's ass from impeachment. (He deposed Monica, for one thing ... an interesting few hours, I'm sure).

I think the video is less than impressive. Only 4 apologies and on is an "it has to change (NCLB)" statement. Yucca Mountain and the Bankruptcy bill are not killers politically and Edwards voted on hundreds of bills.
It is ridiculous to think that of all the candidates on both sides, Edwards is the only on with mistakes or changing his opinion on an issue (think Giuliani...immigration, Dodd...intelligence, Romney...abortion, Clinton...NAFTA, for example).
75% of Americans and mostly all of the Senate and House got it wrong on Iraq. Bush was the one who violated the terms of the legislation that gave him power, as a last resort, to go to war in Iraq.

Actually, it's no secret. Go take a look at the businesses behind outsourcing and H1-B guest workers. What is especially troubling about this is that MSNBC is fully aware of it but is playing cute with us here. It isn't just business interests behind this, either. Keith, Chicago, those are the concerns I have about John Edwards. We all know that such points will be raised in the general election. The reasons they have not been overamplified have been that the focus has been more on Clinton and Obama. Say what you will, I think the candidates that have been more thoroughly examined have been Clinton and Obama. My opinion is that Clinton will probably have a better chance at winning the whole thing but the gridlocks will continue for another four years. Well, Dennis Kucinich used that EXACT phrase in a debate, and it was also Dennis, who slammed Edwards, at that same debate. I believe it was the Nevada debate...so I say it was Kooch.
