While I am sure that the race is close, I have come to the conclusion that Iowa defies traditional polling models as to render them useless; And I am, in the opinion of many pro and con, the poll guy here.
When I read that;

"The big challenge for polling this contest, of course, is that turnout for the Democratic caucuses is typically a small percentage of eligible voters. Iowa had roughly 2.2 million voting eligible adults in 2004, of whom (as of last month) approximately 1.9 million are considered "active" registered voters by the Iowa Secretary of State. But only 124,331 participated in the 2004 Democratic Caucuses for President (according to the subscription only Hotline). That number amounts to roughly 6% of all registered voters, so selecting "likely caucus goers" is no easy task."

SIX PERCENT? SIX PERCENT! All of this time and money, all of this media madness, and SIX PERCENT of the Iowa electorate will be providing a springboard and momentum for the potential next C&C?
Why the hell doesn't anyone write about this?

Van

http://www.mysterypollster.com/main/2006/06/the_first_iowa_.html

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

when any poll shows edwards doing well, 'the polls can't be trusted' and the corrupt political machine continues rumbling along, edwards still gets my vote, sorry

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

"Has the press been nicer to Obama than Clinton?"
--------------------------------------------------

That is difficult to say--some of the stories that were not flattering to Senator Clinton were the results of mess-ups by her staff, so that can't be held against the press. I think First Read has done a good job of not being "pro" one side or the other. Sometimes when FR stacks stories about one candidate one after another without interspersing them with stories about other candidates, it may look like they favor one over the others, but in reality, I don't think that is the case. I'm sure that candidate accessibility plays a major part in what stories are posted. Or, perhaps some reporters are more selective about what is newsworthy about the candidates.

The Tim Russert thing though, to me, showed some anti-Clinton bias. Russert seemed almost geeful when he used President Clinton's statement against Senator Clinton. One could almost here him say Gottcha." I do get a sense that the media as a whole LIKES Senator Obama better than Senator Clinton.

If we were to expand that question and ask if press coverage has been fair to ALL the candidates, I think I would have to say no. The lower tier candidates have not received adequate coverage from any of the media.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

BTW guys you know that you are reading the IA poll incorrectly. Poll avergers are using the "Highly Likely" number which has obama and edwards virtually tied with clinton in third. Dxon't believe me check for yourself. The only people using the likely number are people who won't to show Obama in third. How about a little journalistic honesty:

Democrats
Obama 26.6
Edwards 26.0
Clinton 23.8
Other candidates 14.0
Undecided 9.5

http://www.time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

John B WHERE IS YOUR MIND HUCKABEE WILL BE THE NOMINEE AND WILL WIN LIKE REGAN DEMOCRATS ONLY HAVE 1 CANDIDATE WHO COULD WIN BUT WONT GET NOMINATION, PEOPLE WONT VOTE FOR A WOMAN THAT STOLE THE WHITEHOUSE FURNITURE, TOOK DRUG MONEY FROM BILLS PARDONS ECT. THEY WONT VOTE FOR A MUSLIM WHICH IS WHAT CLINTON BACKERS ARE CALLING OBAMA, NOR ANYONE SPENDING 400 DOLLARS FOR A HAIRCUT EDWARDS. THIS ELECTION IS OVER LIKE IT OR NOT, HUCK IS THE MAN.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Unnamed sources claim the GOP contenders will temporarily put their differences aside for the sake of the Party, and appear in a Group Nativity Scene.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/12/18/bill-clinton-george-hw-bush-will-help-president-hillary/
Former President George H.W. Hillary Rodham Clinton's robust 25-point lead over Sen. Barack Obama in California has shrunk by nearly half since October - but state Democratic voters by a 3-1 ratio still believe the New York senator has the best chance of winning the presidency, a new Field Poll shows.

With just seven weeks until the state's Feb. 5 presidential primary, the latest statewide poll shows that Clinton leads by 36 percent to 22 percent and that one in 5 Democrats is undecided - a number that has nearly doubled since early last year.

Among the poll's key findings:

Both Clinton and Obama enjoy high favorable ratings among Democrats, but Clinton leads 2-1 among women and Latinos while Obama has a far more positive image among independent and African American voters.

"There's no significant surge for Obama, it's just greater hesitancy amongst those who were formerly supporting Clinton," said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo. But California Democrats are "not really moving to any one candidate, mainly going into the undecided column." ...'

Californians are turning off to Hillary Clinton
The 'inevitable' scam is over
What about cross over support ?
Which Democratic candidate can pull in Republicans and Independents ?

'...Obama gets more crossover support from Republicans - 47 percent say they would consider supporting him, versus just 20 percent who would support Clinton.

That suggests that in the general election, "Obama might stand a better chance," said DiCamillo. But he cautioned that "Republicans in this state generally get behind the Republican nominee" and that expressed support "might not hold" in a general election....'

Republicans would consider Obama over Clinton by over 2 to 1 !
That's HUGE !
California is dominated by independents

'...Obama has a far more positive image among independent and African American voters...'

Hillary's support is continuing to shrivel
What if she LOSES IN IOWA ?

'...While former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards' support has remained stable in California, there is speculation about how Democratic voters in California would be swayed if he doesn't do well in the first crucial states of Iowa and New Hampshire. Second choice preferences among his supporters show Edwards' voters "would be more inclined to support Obama than Clinton, which could make the race in California closer," the survey shows....'

Surprise !!
Edwards supporters are more inclined to support Obama
Obama's supporters are probably more inclined to support Edwards, too !!

Looks grim for Hillary in California
She's SHRINKING !!

Hillary Clinton is like Paris Hilton
She's famous for being famous (or infamous)
At least Brittney Spears puts out albusm...

Obama/Edwards
Honesty, Integrity, Reform

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Polls? The Times reports that more Bush administration lawyers were involved in discussions about whether the tapes should be destroyed than previously acknowledged, and that administration officials may even have actively lobbied in favor of the plan.

Before Wednesday, only former White House counsel Harriet Miers had been reported to have taken part in discussions about the tapes, but the Times says the circle was wider. It includes former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales -- who participated when he was White House counsel -- David Addington, now Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and John Bellinger, formerly the senior lawyer at the National Security Council.

The Times also contradicts previous reporting in asserting that administration officials may not have opposed the destruction of the tapes, and that others may even have advocated their destruction. "It was previously reported that some administration officials had advised against destroying the tapes, but the emerging picture of White House involvement is more complex," Times reporters Mark Mazzetti and Scott Shane write. "One former senior intelligence official with direct knowledge of the matter said there had been 'vigorous sentiment' among some top White House officials to destroy the tapes ... "Some other officials assert that no one at the White House advocated destroying the tapes. Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York remain deadlocked in Iowa, with former senator John Edwards of North Carolina trailing, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll that underscores the importance of the massive efforts the Democratic candidates have set in motion to turn out supporters on Jan. 3.

In a race that could hinge on a campaign's ability to motivate voters to brave wintry conditions and spend hours attending caucuses, each of the leading contenders appears to enjoy distinct advantages. More of Obama's backers said they are certain to participate than did those who have gotten behind Clinton. But Clinton's supporters are the most committed and enthusiastic, and Edwards counts among his supporters experienced caucus attendees who are more likely to turn out again.

Enthusiasm for a candidate and familiarity with the process are critical components in the caucuses, in which voting takes place in public after speeches on behalf of each of the candidates, and complex rules dictate the allocation of delegates.

The three front-runners are pouring resources into the state, viewing the caucuses as potentially decisive in the battle for the Democratic nomination.

Obama has gained ground on Clinton on the question of which Democrat is seen as most electable in November 2008, which had been one of her early calling cards in wooing voters. Clinton retains a significant advantage as the candidate with the best experience to be president.

Overall, 33 percent of likely caucusgoers support Obama, 29 percent Clinton and 20 percent Edwards. A month ago, four percentage points also separated Obama and Clinton at the top (30 percent to 26 percent).

The other Democrats campaigning actively in Iowa remain far behind. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson registered 8 percent in the new poll, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware 4 percent and Sen. Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut 1 percent.

Iowa's caucuses put a premium on organization, and all the campaigns are engaged in unprecedented efforts to identify supporters and get them to one of the 1,781 precinct caucuses.

Here the poll offers good news for each of the leading candidates. More than seven in 10 of Obama's supporters said they are certain to participate in the caucuses, compared with 59 percent of Clinton's backers....'

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

I love it when people post stuff on sites in caps thinking it looks better or gets the point across better somehow.... hold on I'm sorry...I'm sorry here.

I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE POST STUFF ON SITES IN CAPS THINKING IT LOOKS BETTER OR GETS THE POINT ACROSS BETTER SOMEHOW =D

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Want to see unfair coverage of Clinton? Clinton was slammed three times as often. Do you disagree with the findings?

Do you disagree with Kurtz's take on the current media narrative? As a Clinton supporter, I am probably as guilty as the supporters of the other candidates of being overly sensitive to negative press about Hillary, but a simple viewing of a show like 'Hardball", does much to support Kurtz's contentions.

Can you name a network or media outlet or chattering class roundtable or nightly show that is devoted to bashing Obama or Edwards or any of the other democratic candidates the way that "Hardball", is devoted to smearing Hillary?

President Clinton lamented the paucity of in-depth coverage of the issues in the campaign and used the study I've linked above to support his argument. Big Media accused him of complaining that they weren't covering Hillary's policies and positions, exclusively. This is patently and obviously false.

They willfully misinterpreted his statement and tailored it to fit the chosen media narrative. His statement was about the MEDIA COVERAGE of the candidates, it was a legitimate complaint that was supported by the study linked above, and a scathing indictment of the shallowness of the media's coverage to be sure. The distortion of his meaning and the following attack from Big Media did a lot to prove his point for him.
It's one thing to be in a goldfish bowl, but when people are shooting at the goldfish, it isn't their memories that need to be questioned.

Van

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Democrats do not know how to run anything. What has congress accomplished? Do not kid yourselves folks.
That value is very subjective to us bloggers but consider the Football polls for college. Creates controversy right? Oh yeah! Generates interest and lots of $$$.
These political polls are generate lots of interest and benefit the media.
I can go along with that fact that they mean very little as to who is winning or losing. Or who is beter or not in football or politics.
This is a race for as much recognition as possible. That generally computes to votes and activisim.
This case it is probability and alot of luck.
A number of these candidates could win and do just fine. Of course, they will get ripped apart. Every President is just not good enough. Can't say I like the job benefits but somebody has to do the job.

Now, everyone say vote for the most qualified. That argument is presented by the one who is most skilled and has experience. Doesn't mean that should be the one in office or not. It marketing to their strength of course.
Wether religion should be used or not is irrelevant...its marketing. most of these candidates want lots of coverage. The more you hear and see the names the better the chances of getting the nomination.
People in the end vote from their gut or not at all if over-exposed.
That's my blog for the day. Notice how the study is -only- about coverage? Until you post a study that actually analyzes the the total amount of negative and positive news in relation to the amount of negative and positive news coverage, there's no proof of bias at all. There's only proof that Clinton has had more negative news stories (i.e. has done more negative things).

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

" ...a further indication of your own lack of objectivity ..."
*Clearly you, Van, are not objective. (I can't claim so much either). Dot, IL seems pretty objective when it comes to the top three candidates. (She's about the only objective (Democrat) one on this blog). I defer to whatever her position is on this issue, with the probable caveat that I'm slightly glad the media somewhat ignores the less-than first tier.

--I already posted above some issues with that specific article. Mainly, like polls, that if you re-arrange the parameters, you can tell any story. You're article focuses on the early campaign, specifically the first five months if it is the same article you brought up before.

--Hardball is a poor choice. I find Mr. Matthews very fair (and I don’t say that because I like Obama, though clearly you won’t believe me on that point), you guys are creating a narrative that doesn’t exist. He or his panel has been tough on Obama, made me cringe a bit, but it was always fair criticism. You know who on a panel is biased and who isn't. I try to listen to the less biased folks, and I do wish he would call out peoples' BS more. He has very recently also said a number of nice things about Senator Clinton, especially towards her character, which were nice to hear. Like I say, she's a news maker, so much lately has been bad. You all weren't bringing up media bias until after her poor debate performance. Mr. Matthews reports on the present events, and the show is called Hardball for a reason. If the present, in the future, is positive for Hillary, he will no doubt direct the conversation as such. What's fair is fair. I just don’t see him telling lies. That somebody on the Clinton side of the blog insinuated Tucker is pro-Obama is also laughable. He does get some very good guests though. Mr. Olbermann does seem to at times lean pro-Hillary. FR is pretty fair, and I have said that when other Obama folks have disagreed.

Still, on the other hand, I'd like to have Obama under fire more, I do agree. But first, the Clintons have to get out of the media's way. But that is the problem of such a managed campaign, you know, Tight Like a Tiger ... Clinton, her surrogates and her supporters react so strongly to everything. This very argument is counterproductive to obtaining the very thing you all want, sheesh! And that is all I have to say on this issue.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

This whole Edwards' "pregnant mistress" rumor is so disturbing. The Enquirer is a rag, but, I know they occasionally get it right. I hope this isn't one of those times. I just cannot believe Edwards would do this. I pray it is proven to be a dirty trick. That you decided to answer a question directed to someone else,  (understandable as no one EVER asks you anything) gives me the opportunity to cut you a new one and highlight the meaningless silliness that you post, and that most ignore daily. Here was the question;

What has senator Clinton done in her senate campaigns and while in the senate SPECIFICALLY that you believe justifies your anger and criticisms?

Lets see what perhaps the biggest Hillary-hater on the board has in their quiver. He gets the chance to air all of the terrible things that he feel will influence others to not vote for Clinton and because it isn't his post, people may actually read it! What will Sierra do with his chance? What damning evidence does he have of Clinton's perfidy?

Did you really open a can of worms on that one Van....

Let's start with:

chinese dishwashers- LOL Didn't someone have BABIES contributing to their campaign? If it isn't Clinton it isn't bad? Just shows your crazy bias and one-sidedness yet again

planted questions- Obama had one this week. Will we be seeing you harp on that? More one-sidedness.

planted people-Where are they PLANTED? LOL

fake laughs-Do you have any idea how foolish this makes you seem?

fake answers-As opposed to REAL answers? What does this even mean? Do you realize how foolish these lame criticisms paint you to be?

furniture from the white house-What about the TOWELS!!!!

travelgate-EXONERATED, and only a low-life creep would continue to post this crap without ADMITTING that. But then you have nothing of substance in your endless litany of lies and inanities, so lacking anything that is true you continue to perpetuate lies.

whitewater-EXONERATED, and only a low-life would continue to post the claim without noting that it had been DISCREDITED.

Vince Foster-Committed suicide, and only a hate-filled, low-life would have the lack of human decency to continue to exhume his dead corpse to try and smear the name of someone he loved and respected. I only wish I could come to your door with the members of mister Foster's family so they could look you in the eye and tell you what they think of you and your despicable use of his tragic death.

Monica-That was Bill Clinton's indiscretion and (this might surprise you) most DEMOCRATS felt it was a personal matter between two married people. That the Clinton's survived a crisis and kept their marriage together, like MILLIONS of other couples, is only an indictment of how low you continually sink to smear the only 2 term democratic president since FDR.

Bill-One of the best, if not the best president of my lifetime, and THE MOST POPULAR democrat in the party. Are you even a democrat? This crap would make anyone wonder.

Socks-This is logically consistent with the rest of your reasons.

Buddy-You could really probably use a dog, or some kind of friend, yourself. Maybe the Clintons have one for you.

Anti Semitic remarks-I'm a Jew, are you? Did you know that there are several Jews in New York? Do you know where senator Clinton is the senator FROM? Do you know where President Clinton's office is? Do you know how ridiculous the, "reasons", you have so foolishly cited to justify the endless stream of hyperactive invective that most simply scroll past? You're lucky that most do, as even a cursory reading of your stuff is enough to see that there is nothing of substance there.

her F word bombs-LOL I can't believe she CURSES! That's should disqualify EVERYONE from the race.

Norman Hsu-Contributed to many campaigns, including Senator Obama, everybody gave back the money and he was indicted. Only you fail to get that seemingly obvious truth.

I could go on and on...But you LED with your BEST and your best is so sadly lacking in any real merit that it only makes you look foolish.

The endless stream of postings, many of great length, that repeat these foolish, spurious, claims won't cease despite being exposed to the light of ridicule, I know;
But the utter lack of truth or import in your daily postings highlighted here thanks to you, may allow more to scroll past as you howl your sad, discredited, sorta' crazy propaganda into the wind.

If you had any class or decency, you'd stop posting some of the things I've put to rest here. We also realize the state this country is in, and experience the same day to day decisions and struggles (economy, healthcare, jobs,) as every American does. Although we believe Sen Obama is highly intelligent and very charismatic, he does not bring the set of prequisite skills needed to implement an immediate turn-around strategy that this country desperately needs.

With more experience in the Senate and more exposure to Foreign Policy, he would probably have the full support of the African American community. Congress gave him that authority when it voted for a Resolution with the simple title: “A Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq.” I opposed the war, and spoke out against it in 2002 when it was not politically popular. I said we needed to finish the job in Afghanistan, and that invading and occupying a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 was the wrong way to respond to the unconventional challenge posed by al Qaeda and Islamic extremism.”

Using former Bill Clinton advisors in a campaign against Hillary Clinton was a neat tweak of his foe. They were also effective counters to the argument that experience is needed in the White House and that he would lack it. Obama argues a little judgment is important too.

He added: “We also have to change a conventional way of thinking about foreign policy that values time spent in Washington over timely judgments; posturing over pragmatism; and fear of looking weak over the conviction to get things right,” he said.

Obama hit just the right tone with the address. He was able to criticize Clinton and Edwards without sounding too negative about it. (Their names were never uttered and not sounding too negative is always important in nicey-nice Iowa.)

The politics of the speech was pretty simple: Obama holds the narrowest of leads in a tight race with the two for votes in the Iowa caucuses. His main rival is Clinton, who he’d dearly like to defeat in order to give his campaign a big boost into the New Hampshire primary and later contests. Defeating Clinton in Iowa would also deal a hard, perhaps mortal, blow to the national Democratic frontrunner.

But part of doing that involves taking anti-Hillary votes away from Edwards and there’s no better way to do that with Iowa Democrats than to remind them how both Clinton and Edwards voted for the war.

“When I’m the Democratic nominee, I will offer a clear choice,” he said. “My opponent won’t be able to say that I ever supported the war in Iraq, or that I don’t support a clear timetable to bring our troops home. He won’t be able to say that I voted to use our troops in Iraq to counter Iran, or that I support the Bush-Cheney diplomacy of not talking to leaders we don’t like. And he won’t be able to say that I wavered on something as fundamental as whether or not it is ok for America to torture –because it is never ok.”

Obama added: “This isn’t about drawing contrasts – it’s about a change in our foreign policy that you can believe in. So when you consider who to caucus for, I ask you to consider my judgment and vision for new American leadership.”

It must be working. Obama’s narrow lead widened to 9 points in the last poll taken in Iowa, a fact that has both Clinton and Edwards feeling a little jittery.
First thoughts: Polling fans beware

I laugh at all the small minded people who are writing on this. You all forget that the mass vote in this country comes from the country. All the whiners and people who want change don't vote. There is a reason that Lil Bush will do 8 years, and by the look at what the Dems are trying to send up, a Rep will do some more.

I don't agree with Huck throwing his church stuff out there, but there are a lot of votes that comes with that. But he seems to be the only Rep that is doing it for the right reason. I can't stand Mitt. He just looks like one of those guys that are in it for the wrong reason. As for the Dems Barrack seems to also be in this for the right reasons but there is no way a Muslim will get into the White House. There are too many hardcore Christians, rednecks, hill-billy's, and military supporters that will not let it happen. And believe it or not, more of them vote than do the MTV Nation. As for Clinton and Edwards, I don't see them being in the house with all of our best interests at heart. I just get a weird feeling when I see them speak. The one I usually get when some one is lying threw their teeth.

The way I do see it, if Barrack was Christian and maybe white (not necessarily) he would win in a landslide. But since that isn't the case, Huck will most likely be the one with the keys. And that will probably be not so bad.
First thoughts: Polling fans beware

What job really qualifies one to be president? Is anything really sufficient? Not really, I think.

But here's something interesting. With only a couple of exceptions, American voters choose people with executive rather than only legislative experience to be president. Recently, at least.
2004 - Bush 43, sitting president
2000 - Bush 43, governor of Texas
1996 - Clinton, sitting president
1992 - Clinton, governor of Arkansas
1988 - Bush 41, sitting vice-president
1984 - Reagan, sitting president
1980 - Reagan, former governor of California
1976 - Carter, former governor of Georgia
1972 - Nixon, sitting president
1968 - Nixon, former vice-president
1964 - L. John Kerry and now Clinton. His bias has been documented, and goes back to the 2000 election.

Here's a piece from Media Matters, documenting Matthew's bias;

Chris Matthews: 2005's Misinformer of the Year

This year, of all the news anchors, columnists, pundits, and reporters whose work we've critiqued and corrected, one man stands alone as a clear successor to the O'Reilly throne. We are pleased to announce broadcast journalist, former newspaper bureau chief, former presidential speechwriter, and best-selling author Chris Matthews has earned the title of 2005's "Misinformer of the Year." At times, it has even been difficult to tell the difference between 2005's Misinformer of the Year and his predecessor.

For your reading pleasure, we've compiled some highlights of Matthews's most egregious false and misleading claims, as well as his glowing and gushing praise for President Bush.

Without further ado:

Matthews on the filibuster debate: Democrats are "just sort of pouting and bitching." ..., Matthews repeatedly espoused Republican talking points, claiming, among other things, that because of the recent bipartisan agreement aimed at averting the "nuclear option," Democrats can stop "pouting and bitching ...

# Matthews repeatedly smeared Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. On April 24, Matthews attacked Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) by referring to her as a "sort of a Madame Defarge of the left." On May 30, Matthews questioned Clinton's ability to lead, expressing surprise that retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey, an NBC military analyst, wasn't "chuckling a little bit" at the idea of Clinton giving orders to the troops as commander in chief. On July 11, Matthews said Sen. Clinton "looked more witchy" because she criticized the Bush administration's homeland security spending priorities on July 8, a day after the London bombings. On July 27, Matthews asked Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) if he thought Sen. Clinton is a "big-government socialist." [Hardball, 5/30/05; The Chris Matthews Show, 4/24/05; Hardball, 7/11/05; Hardball, 7/27/05]

This Chris Matthews, right?
The rest of the article is here;

http://mediamatters.org/items/200512230005

I don't think that Matthews is fair at all.

Van

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Sierra,SF, on WHAT BASIS was/is Ted Kennedy EVER a "GOOD MAN"? I think that if Ron Paul had the same years in the White House that Bill Clinton had, where domestic issues were the bulk of what was on the table as opposed to a raging war, he would do some good. However, we need someone who knows where we are and how to handle the current situation we're in (yes, guys, like it or not we are at war and cannot just pull our troops out and close the books on Iraq/Iran/Afganistan/etc...) and can effectively change the direction we are going and swing the momentum in our favor. Hillary is too polarizing despite the fact that she does have the political experience. I would like to know more about Barack's faith, about exactly what he does and does not believe and his upbringing. That would put to rest alot of rumors! Still, the candidate who has what it takes and is a man of integrity we can trust is MIKE HUCKABEE!

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

It's going to be really funny when Ron Paul places first in Iowa and New Hampshire and the MSM is forced to mention the good doctor and touch on his ideas. Take a look at the platforms of these individual candidates and it is clear that Ron Paul understands America's problems and has a real plan for freedom, peace, and prosperity. The polls quoted by msnbc and other media owned by multi-national corporations are only counting phone landlines of those who voted GOP in the 2004 primary. Along with attracting people from across the spectrum, Ron Paul is a true Jeffersonian (endorsed by the Jefferson Republicans), and GOP primary voters themselves will naturally turn on and tune in in the next few weeks. Go Dr. Paul!

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

"Regardless of who the Dem nominee is, it's going to be very difficult for us to make the case for him or her if its either Edwards, Obama, or Clinton when compared to either Romney, Huckabee, or Guiliani."

Each of those Republicans also come with their own big negatives. Diehard evangelicals won't vote for Romney no matter what because they believe Mormonism is a "cult". Huckabee will scare off any moderate and liberal leaning Republicans. If Guiliani gets it, there's no point in the Christian base (who put Bush into office) to vote. He's no different on abortion, gun control, gay marriage than any Democrat. Unless, of course, Republicans are stupid enough to believe his backpedaling on those social issues. Guiliani would never in a million years push to make abortion illegal and that's a top Christian conservative objective. Chris Matthews made remarks disapproving of Hillary's laughing, clapping, using a shrill voice and he has virtually denounced everything uttered by President Clinton as political hype. Matthews appears eager to denounce Clinton after every debate and crown Obama winner when it is the general consensus that Clinton is the defined winner except perhaps the Philly debate. It is also apparent the media has a love affair for Obama however they will be covering a Republican White House for the next 4 years should he win the Democratic nomination. Hillary may "triangulate" on some of the issues but she is a realistic politician and knows that answering hypothetical scenarios and taking an idealistic view may make for a nice speech but could lead to political suicide in the general election.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Carrie

I agree. At leastnot this soon.

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

I would like MSNBC to stop Chris Matthews from showing his real hate foe the Clintons. Were you around yesterday? The correspondant in the field reported on the 'circus' of a public appearance in a local grocery store, but when the comentator here recapped it, it was portrayed as an entirely different event - somewhat downplayed I would say. I think we all see what we want to see in this. It is very subjective (on the part of the bloggers)-

There are several things I would like to see. For starters, I would like to know both Hillary and Barack's stance on the faith issues. They both privately profess their faith - I would like to know more about what they believe, just to get both a personal knowledge of who they are and where they are coming from, as well as a perspective into what positions they may/may not be sympathetic to. I would also like to know what role Bill Clinton would play in Hillary's White House if she were to become president. Would he have a position in her administration at all? Would he play the ambassador role? I would be curious as to where this would take him and how that might affect her time in the White House. I would think it would be unreasonable to believe he would play no part at all, which means makes me wonder whether or not we would in effect have him as a 'co-president'. I am not suggesting anything, just wondering if anyone else has a thought on the matter...

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

van:
I only post under my own name....
Unlike you who posts as Dickie Flatts, Susan,Miami, Tofun,Disney and all those posts about cocaine and black candidates .....
COWARD !!!

Sierra, SF (Sent Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:25 PM)

Sierra-

Guess you read my post and this is your, "reply".

my sympathies to those who are forced to tolerate you in real life.

Van
(like I said, "No class.")

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

Todd... WHY? are they waiting until he's president to make their move? would you like muslims running this country? do not think for one minute this can't happen do not be swayed by celebrity or impassioned speaches. vote for a strong leader based on experience and knowledge of the job. clinton or edwards would be your best choice and remember, with hillary you get bill. now that's a team. the 90's under clinton were exceptionaly good for everyone. vote wisely, please!!!!!

First thoughts: Polling fans beware

When are the people in this country going to wake up and realize that Iowa and New Hampshire don't represent the entire country.
