Kissinger helped engineer the coup against the democratically elected government of Chile that installed Augusto Pinochet as dictator of Chile who then tortured and murdered thousands of people during his bloody reign of terror. If Pinochet hadn't kicked the bucket already, maybe McCain could have gotten his endorsement, too.

The Republican Party is now the pro-torture party, so I guess McCain has to do some serious flip-flopping on the torture issue if he wants the Pub nomination.

Have you forgotten that John McCain was a prisoner of war and subject to unspeakable torture by the Viet Cong? Who are you to suggest he is or needs to flip flop on his position reagarding torture?
In the military, Navy seals and other intelligence gathering professions, are subject to water boarding and other more mild disaplines so they can understand and better resist these "tortures" if captured. There are far worse acts that are done by other nations in order to extract information. A reality check is really needed to get the "actual facts" out to the public that are so distorted by the media. Who better than someone who has been through the experience to give their honest opinion. John McCain is probably the most honest candidate running regardless of his political preference (i.e. Republican). Get REAL!

YOU need a reality check if you don't believe waterboarding is torture. Torture is any interrogation technique thatis so painful physically or psychologically that the subject will say anything to make it stop, including confessions to crimes he did not commit or implicating innocent people in crimes. In the event you're not a campaign plant, please educate yourself: First of all McCain was in the navy, so he was not a "soldier". Second, he was a "naval aviator" and his aircraft was shot down over Hanoi -- no where near American ground forces. Third, he sustained serious injuries when he bailed out of his aircraft. He was captured and beaten by a mob. He spent more than five years in a prison in Hanoi and most of that time was spent in solitary confinement.

You may disagree with his politics, you have every right to do so, but please don't label the man a "failed soldier" you ignorant, sorry excuse for a human being.

The more apt comparison to Kissinger is the current Bush regime. Bush openly assisted in the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Haiti and immediately approved of the tinpot dictator temporarily installed by the failed coup in Venezuela, and very likely aided and abetted the coup.

As for the other "bad guys" Holmes cites, the Clinton administration did have dealings with them, just like Bush I before and Bush II after. But unlike the Kissinger and Nixon's assistance to Pinochet's coup in Chile, Clinton did NOT assist in a coup to install the "Chicoms" in power. Bin Laden probably didn't receive a paycheck from Reagan/Bush (and he'd deny it even if he did). But the jihadist groups he was associated with most certainly were backed by the United States. And they were every bit as blood-thirsty as their offshoot, Al Qaeda. What they did to captured Russian soldiers was unspeakable, and the press in this country didn't speak about it since the jihadis were the "good guys" back in the '80s fighting the Russians, who were the "bad guys".
