From NBC/NJ's Carrie DannFt DODGE, IA -- Romney says that it depends on what the definition of "saw" is.

There is difference between a verbal misstep and a lie. Your father was a good man, a good governor, and a good candidate for president. You are nothing like him. He dragged five wounded all by himself for almost three miles, inspite of multiple wounds to his leg and stomach, that is, after he took out the pillboxes and "took care of" the prisoners--they were gooks so who cares. He deserved the Medal of Honor, but being a humble man, he would only receive a purple heart and a bronze star. I am so proud to see his sons serving the nation, like Mitt, at this time of war. If this is the worst they can bring about the man, great.
Until Sept 11th, 2001 I was an Independent left leaning liberal. Since that date I am a staunch conservative convert do to security issues, and have been converted on fiscal issues. The social issues I do not have a stake in personally for I am not spiritual but I feel that spiritually and the ethics they bring to familes and the country can do nothing but good. I suffered through 8 years of George W (he's not a conservative, though he's a great man and history will be on his side 20 years from now). Romney brings passion to me politically. Put the petty stuff aside. Im not saying vote for him, im saying find a canidate to be passionate about rather than someone your passionatly against and the nation will be better of. The point is that Mitt Romney said he saw his father make that march, but is now saying that he didn't actually see it; he "saw" it. He says that's not lying because "saw" doesn't necessarily mean that he saw it with his eyes, but that he saw it as an imaginary vision in his brain, whether or not it really happened.

That's definitely the logic of someone I'd love to see running the most powerful country in the world. I think that is legitimate. Also, there IS a separation of church and state inasmuch we don't want our President or Congress beholden to anyone except for the People (us).
So, with that said, Tim Russert asked Romney whether he thought that the Mormon Church's policy of denying African-Americans the right to practice their religion until the 1970s was wrong, Romney refused to denounce the Church's policy as to not offend his Church...that I have a BIG problem with. If you asked any of Christian candidates was it right for their Churches to justify slavery and second-class citizenship of African-Americans by placing them in the back of churches, I think that most would denounce that practice. If not, clearly their priorities are in the wrong place.
So, if Romney couldn't openly denounce overt racism and discrimination by his Church to not offend them, how can we expect that he answers to the people and not the Mormon church and its leaders, one of which is mentor and advisor. Furthermore, since Romney clearly did not want to offend the Mormon Church, apprently supporting pre-emptive war DOES NOT offend the Mormon Church...if that's the case, then what does it say about the Mormon Church and Romney for that matter regarding African-Americans that it would offend them if he denounced the Mormon lateness to civil rights?

Once again, his religion SHOULD NOT matter BUT when it clearly has implications on what he can and cannot say because of his allegiance to an institution other than the American people and our Constitution perhaps it deserves a look.

Romney defends MLK march remark

Out of curiosity i wonder how many of you out there know any mormons personally? I live in Las Vegas and I'm here to tell you I know many mormons and to be quite honest with you hearing Mitt talk about an African-American march is like listening to Hitler talk about going to a bah-mitzvah I have never met a more bigoted group of people in my life ( I am white ) and come from Massachusetts I have had my share of bigots in the past but never like this I don't know how they rectify this with their religion??

Romney defends MLK march remark

Jerry's Man Mitt caught in a big fat lie! Should we be surprised? Cain and his posterity must wear the mark, which God put upon them; and his white friends may wash the race of Cain with fuller’s soap every day, they cannot wash away God’s mark; The Lamanites, through transgression, became a loathsome, ignorant and filthy people, and were cursed with a skin of darkness … yet, they have the promise, if they will believe, and work righteousness, that not many generations shall pass away before they shall become a white and delightsome people; but it will take some time to accomplish this at best. Source: The Latter-Day Saints Millennial Star, vol. 14, p. 418

1848, Brigham Young, as President of the Mormon Church, first preached the "Curse of Cain Doctrine". He said that Negroes, whom he considered to be children of Cain (son of Adam and killer of Abel) had the "mark of Cain" (black skin and kinky hair and flat nose) and they could not hold the priesthood until Abel was resurrected, had children, and all of Abel's children were given the opportunity to receive the priesthood first, then the Curse of Cain would be taken off his posterity (Negroes) and they would have the priesthood like everybody else. Brigham Young started the "priesthood-ban" in 1848, banning all Negroes, and even white men with Negro ancestry, from the two orders of priesthood, and banning all Negroes from the House of the Lord (the Mormon Temple). Mormon Church leaders
Now you are probaly asking yourself well back in those day's everyone was a racist, the blacks where not able to hold the priesthood until 1968 and many LDS faithful still believe in the curse of cain.
Romney defends MLK march remark

Lies make baby Jesus cry.

Romney defends MLK march remark

C'mon what he meant by "saw" was he had a vision of them marching together in the Terrestrial Kingdom. MLK was protesting to get into the Celestial Kingdom because he died before blacks were allowed in which didn't happen until 1978. See, the Romney's are huge civil rights supporters even in the afterlife! Go Mitt!

Romney defends MLK march remark

I'm going to vote for Mitt. If you are looking for someone who is perfect and doesn't make mistakes, well, you are going to be waiting a long time, seeing that there isn't a single person on the earth that fits that description. It is documented that George DID in fact march with him. Whether you like Mitt Romney or not, drop it already. The reason everyone scrutinizes everything a candidate says is that politicians generally try to cover up their mistakes, not admit them and move on. But will never do anything to solve problems. The sad part is the republicans always create more problems. But remember in the name of god there is nothing these candidates will do to get elected. That is why they are never responsible for anything they do. It is all God's will. Just remember that when you go to the polls. Do you want to elect someone that uses facts, information, and common sense. Then vote democrat. If you want someone that decides issues by using their gut or talking to god. Then go ahead and vote republican. Republicans can never do wrong and are never ever responsible for anything. It is all God's will. How do you think W sleeps at night. It is not his Iraq war. It is God's war. That famous line from Bob Woodward's book where W says a higher father told him to invade Iraq. Do we want leaders that think they can talk to GOD? Aside from Neal, Diana, and Tyrone; the comments to date reflect established positions looking for a basis. This is a repeat of the yellow journalism that was used to undermine George Romney. The media is not only wrong but is guilty of unprofessional conduct. Even if they were correct, this is not of significance worth consideration in selection of who to vote for. They both use the word "saw" to desribe a major event. Joseph Smith says he "saw" Jesus Christ and God the Father standing obove him in the air. Mitt Romney says he "saw" his father march with Dr. King.
Based on Mitt Romneys own definition, Joseph Smith must have been speaking figuratively and not literally, when he says he "saw" Jesus and God. Literally of course.

Romney defends MLK march remark

funny all the criticism for romney, i think back to the worst mis-translation of all "...that depends on what the meaning of 'is' is ." you all are pathetic. when the argument is lost, resort to name calling.

Romney defends MLK march remark

I understand that Mitt's "misstatements" may all be a result of a medical operation Governor Romney had about a year and half ago. To get rid of the gnawing inside, he went into Mayo Clinc for a ethilotomy. That's the procedure, very popular with a certain type of businessman, where they make a micro incision into the brain and vacuum out the little organ where the conscience and courage reside. But in this unusual case, the surgeons couldn't find the damn thing. Just nothing at all there. I've heard through the medical grapevine that they didn't want to lose their fees--their businesspeople after all--so they just sucked something else out. Some suspect it was his heart.

Another theory is that when the whole family was going through their annual "Stepford" renewal treatment at a secret clinic in the Arizona desert, the medical technicians removed the last vestige of Mitt's soul by mistake. Mitt's soul had atrophied to the point that the technicians thought it was just a pimple on his butt, and so they popped it. So there you have it!

Jesus is Our Savior! The media is liars as they distort every candidate.
Mitt was technically correct. These candidates get over scrutinized.
what really interesting is to listen or read to be more precise about what people are intrepreting was done.
The real issue is not about honesty. Honesty is relative to the beholder.
Comparing every person to God...We are all liars and dishonest or disobeident individuals.
If you have a problem with a candidates words...check your own first. If Mitt is dishonest...then their are alot of others with a much bigger problem to resolve...relative to truism. Scripture. Laws. and purer interest.
As you can see...I like to blog. Blogging is fun to do.
Who we need and what we need in a President is relative to the individual voter.
Rather then blasting a candidate as a voter we should be asking questions that bring out the facts.
The candidates can blast each other all day. That is expected. Let them distort and lie.
What I personally don't care for is media and people falsifying. Very little facts and in some cases none. Making mole hills into mountains.
Who cares what religous faith they are. Who cares if they are a male or female.
I do care about their experience as this is a real job with real impact. May the best candidate step forward.
I can see Clinton, Mccain, Romney, Edwards, etc having the abilities.
I don't agree with all their policies but they have the ability.
Some of these other "jokesters" don't have it. Opps, missed used the word. I'm dishonest or a liar because their really not funny.
Word play's here folks!!!!!!
Mitt is a very honest person and has excellent vision and leadership skills. Any person that has worked with Mitt knows that and the proof is in the pudding as they say....He makes a difference when he is on your team.
He knows how to lead any organization and company.
That's a fact.
This mormon and christian business...very dishonest questions or statements being asserted.
Go check your dictionary on what a christian is...
Go read your bible please.
what is a discple..who can and who can't be one. Who has the authority to say anyways.
Like it really matters folks.
Those issue are more about you and your beliefs then what any candidates beliefs are...
Also, Mitt doesn't just change his position or "flip flop" He does what he know to be right in context of what he knows at the time.
He could careless about whatothers really have to say in terms of just trying to get something.
If that were the case...Why isn't he changing from being a mormon? It would be more popular.
Why didn't Kennedy change from being a catholic...never popular issue at the time. I know catholics and I know mormons and many others of different faiths.
Some people are just simply good people and others aren't. Wouldn't matter what religon.
Religon really is about the act of the individual.
Thus any individual can be religous including you atheist and agnostics.
Just lumped mankind into one big religious blob. LOL!

People pick or vote for a candidate that fits their personal objectives. Be carefull at what others are saying. They want you to vote for their candidate.

In the case of the media...They just want your attention and money if you know what I mean.
Gotta go...enough blogging for the moment.

And Mike...were all as high as a kit because things are pathological and we have figuratives of speech.
Keep this mind "It is not what the speaker says that matter...It is what you thought the speaker said" From the speakers point of view.
Romney defends MLK march remark

R. In other words, just because it looks good don't make it so. That' not a figure of speech. That's a fact. "I love the exchange between Michael J. Fox and Michael Douglass in "The American President" when Fox people are so thirsty for genuine leadership they'll crawl through the desert and drink the sand. The Douglass say's, "they don't drink the sand because they're looking for leadership. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference." That automatically disqualifies all those so-called "experienced" candidates. The only thing their qualified at doing is deceiving people. I don't hate Romney but he's not what I'd call the most principled person in this race. He's more the opportunist then anything. Being a principled opportunist however means you always seek the right in a thing even if it means you don't get what you want or as much of it. That does not describe Romney, Clinton, Guilliani, McCain, and a few others in this race. It's been the "Old School" thinking that's given us the "New World Order". How about we at least go down fighting.

Romney defends MLK march remark

One politician - one crook!

Romney defends MLK march remark

I saw Mitt - going down in flames
Oh, and Neal "George W is a great man"
What substance are you taking to cause you to say such a thing??

Romney defends MLK march remark

Mitt Romney will say ANYTHIG that he thinks will help him get the nomination. ROMNEY was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. ROMNEY handcuffed and transported in bathing suit to Natick police station, where released on own recognizance.5 Disposition: Charges were dropped when ROMNEY threatened to sue the state for false arrest; case dismissed at Natick District Court in February 1982. ROMNEY successfully petitioned that the files be sealed.6

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH. The traffic volunteer Shaun Knopp stated that ROMNEY "asked me who the f___ I was and what the f___ I was doing. We got the Olympics going on we don't need this s___ down here."8 Weber County Sheriff's Office Capt. Terry Shaw, commander of the Snowbasin venue, stated that ROMNEY twice used the F-word while also berating one of his officers, Deputy Kodi Taggart. Capt. Shaw stated that ROMNEY "was abusive" to his officer and advised, unsuccessfully, that "he needs to apologize."9 ROMNEY denied part of the allegation, insisting he hadn't used the F-word since high school -- but admitted he used a word he described as "H-E-double hockey sticks." Disposition: The Utah Department of Safety advised it had decided against initiating a "profanity probe."10

Known Associates
FABIAN, ALAN: Until August 2007, FABIAN was a national finance committee co-chair for ROMNEY. Now under federal indictment for mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury, obstruction of justice and defrauding companies of $32 million in Maryland.11

GARRITY, JAY (a/k/a "Trooper"): Until July 2007, GARRITY provided security and advance for ROMNEY whom he codenamed "LXX"; GARRITY now under investigation in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for impersonating a police officer and other charges.12

HEALEY, KERRY MURPHY (a/k/a "SHERRY" 13): HEALEY recruited by ROMNEY as accomplice for 2002 Governor's race; subsequently relegated to background role.

Additional information
POSSIBLE ANIMAL CRUELTY (1983)
In 1983, ROMNEY transported the family Irish setter, SEAMUS, in a dog carrier strapped to the roof of his Chevrolet station wagon during a 12-hour drive from Boston, Mass. to Lake Huron. No complaint was made or charges filed at time. However, Massachusetts law prohibits carrying an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the animal carried thereon."14

POSSIBLE RECKLESS DRIVING (date unknown)
According to a published account, "red lights make [ROMNEY] impatient." Per the report, at a red light at an intersection in Boston, "There was a truck in front of him but no other traffic anywhere in sight... .So [ROMNEY] pulled out around the truck -- to the left of the truck and then right in front of it -- and made a right turn. Then, at the next intersection, where again there was no traffic, he stopped and then went straight on through a red light. And then, suddenly, a policeman appeared out of nowhere.15

ALLEGED BRUSH WITH INTRUDER (c. MID 1960s)
Subject ROMNEY maintains that while a high school student at Cranbrook School in Michigan he encountered an intruder in his dorm: ROMNEY, who says, "I figured I was dead for sure," states he escaped the unknown intruder by jumping out a ground-floor window and running for help.16

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 People Magazine, 5/13/02

2 Boston Globe, 10/20/94

3 Quincy Patriot-Ledger, 5/26/04

4 Fox News, 2/26/06

5 Boston Herald, 5/5/94

6 Boston Globe, 5/5/94

7 Fortune Magazine, 7/9/07; Boston Globe 6/12/05

8 Standard-Examiner, 2/14/02

9 Standard-Examiner, 2/14/02 and Associated Press 2/14/02

10 Salt Lake Tribune, 2/15/02; Boston Globe, 8/11/02

11 Boston Globe, 8/12/07

12 Boston Globe, 6/22/07; 6/23/07

13 Boston Herald, 9/17/02

14 Boston Globe, 6/30/07

15 Deseret Morning News, 7/6/00

Romney defends MLK march remark

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee let's focus on the all of the candidates background, performance in business and politics not on word games and petty issues. We need someone that has morals and has been successful in ALL aspects of his life as has MITT Romney. Go Mitt you have my vote.

Romney defends MLK march remark

I am seeing my father and granfather together right now, let me have another Absinthe cocktail and I bet I will see more.

Romney defends MLK march remark

It's pathetic to see how many people take whatever the liberal media feeds them. Notice all the negative articles on the leading GOP candidates, as opposed to the articles regarding the Democrats ("Clinton says wife is a 'world class genius'"). It is nothing of the sort. This nation was founded on the principle that religion should be left separate from lawmaking, and rightly so. This is from the Treaty of Tripoli (1796), signed by President John Adams: "The government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion."

And this from Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain of Jupiter. No, I'm just joking. Paul can sure raise a lot of money in one day...what was it, $6 million? Wow! But his views and some of the policies he wants to introduce are neither pro-democrat nor pro-republican. He is by far the worst debater in the republican race. Hilary would be a shoe-in if Ron Paul was the rep nominee.

John McCain has a lot of experience and has a good consistent record to back it up. His downfall is his lack of organization. He spent something like $36 million during this campaign and not much to show for it. Also, the man tends to be a hot-head. I feel that if nominated, the Hilary team will find a way to hit a nerve and make him explode. He will say something very un-presidential and look stupid.

Giuliani and Romney have the money, support, and organization. Out of Giuliani and Romney, I feel that Romney has the better shot at beating Hilary. The logic behind my theory:

Giuliani has many personal skeletons in his closet. Hilary will find them, exploit them, and make him look unfit and unworthy to run the country. He is tough on crime and terror and I personally think he is running his campaign very savvy by not attacking anyone and playing the "American's Mayor" card. But I feel that his stance on abortion, gay rights, and his scandalous personal life will play a big role with conservatives. Hilary vs. Giuliani would be a very close race and it would be anyone's ballgame. I only hope and pray that Giuliani wins if these two meet.

Romney vs. Hilary on the other hand would make for a very interesting presidential race. The first woman nominee and the first Mormon nominee. Their views differ drastically on almost every issue. All the democrats will vote for Hilary and the same with the republicans voting for Romney. I feel that the presidential debates will be important and will sway enough independents towards Romney because he is the best debater and orator. Hilary is a politician. Romney is a business man/politician/leader. He is charming and likable, presidential and has a history of success. Hilary will probably play the "Mormon" card against Romney, kind of like the "Kindergarten" card she played against Obama. It will only hurt her in the end. In general, I believe that the voters will not judge the nominee on religion but on experience, views on critical matters, and their integrity. The only hope for Hilary is to make Romney out to be a "flip-flopper," and I must admit, he seemed to have changed his views on certain issues. But I'm confident that if given the opportunity to explain himself, the American voting population will understand and sympathize. I see this race being close but not as close as a Hilary vs. Giuliani race. Romney wins by almost double digits.
Romney defends MLK march remark

Wow, you guys blow things way out of proportion! Broder said he spent "a lot of time" covering the then-governor of Michigan before writing the book about the GOP with Stephen Hess.

A campaign spokesman cited Broder's book as evidence that Romney and King marched together in Grosse Pointe in 1963. Kevin Madden also wrote in an email that "George Romney had a long record of supporting Martin Luther King, Jr. He attended his funeral in 1968 and believed his death was "a great national tragedy."

Another campaign spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said today that the younger Romney was speaking "figuratively" when he said he "saw" his father march with King. This has all been mentioned before, same old debate as months ago. Move on. Let's not be so irrational as to get hung up on semantics.

Mel- FYI, the LDS church is audited every year by a non-LDS independant auditing firm. All of the church's money comes from donations and tithes from its 13 million plus members. We believe in tithing the same way Abraham did when he paid his tithes to Melchizedeck. Members in good standing voluntarily give 10% of our income to the church to help build buildings, help our neighbors and for humanitarian aid to people around the world, regardless of their religion. Furthermore, the LDS church receives no subsidies from the government like many churches do. It is entirely self-sufficient. Yes, it is wealthy. If it were a business, it would be a fortune 500. But it is not. It is a church.
