Edwards claimed in Iowa yesterday that he would stop Bush from invading Iran. So guess he's talking about when he's President. I really doubt Bush will be trying to launch an invasion of Iran from Crawford Tx. Other than that he said he'd do exactly what Bush is doing right now. Working with our European allies, telling Iran to reveal all of their programs, or face sanctions. The silly emo party clapped and cheered. I'll be glad when the writers finish their strike so this guy can go back to his job as the page on 30 rock.

The special-interest/lobbyist argument seems to be blown way out of proportion for both Edwards and Obama, in my opinion. I don't expect a miracle cure, but I do want the candidates to try and I do want progress. Both Edwards and Obama do that. They are both trying too hard to be more reverent than the other, but the main thing I see is that they are leagues ahead of Clinton on the issue.

Mr. Edwards talks about fighting for change or whatever. Even though he fights, he can't control his 527 interest group, which he 'asked them to stop'. If he can't even win that fight, how will he ever fight the Republicans on all of the other issues. Too much fighting. I trust Obama's technique to actually accomplish goals.

If the uneducated Americans can read, both Edwards and Obama have taken PAC contribution. Just check their funding page which they are supposed to disclose to Fed agencies.

The point is they have taken less PAC (or may be they didnt get enough PAC) money.

If taking PAC money is a crime then Obama, Edwards, Clinton all have done the crime. 10% crime and 80% crime is a crime at the end of the day.

So the semantics that we havent taken lobbyist money "AT ALL" is a lie. Yes, you havent taken Federal lobbyist money. That Fed guy can have state connections to pass on the money to you via other sources.

May be some Americans are illeterate and can not read. So Obama and Edwards and other such politicians can claim anything and people fall for those lies.

Every candidate lives in a glass house where stone throwing over every contribution to another candidate is concerned.

The Clinton campaign never gives up on looking for dirt, whether it's a contribution to Edwards or Obama's admitted youthful cocaine use. Bad moves for the Clintons as there is probably more dirt, financial and personal, to be dug up on them than anyone and Hillary gets more support from the biggest corporate lobbyists, including in healthcare and pharmaceutical industries along with military industrial, than any other candidate, Republicans included.

I used to simply disagree with Hillary on votes and issues. I used to oppose her because she is a corporate darling and neocon hawk. More and more, I find her just plain despicable, even by Washington pol standards. If there is a bit of difference between Rove's approach and her top operative's, it isn't at all apparent.

There is simply no comparison on character issues between Clinton and Edwards. In fact there is no candidate in either party who better represents real family values, real devotion, loyalty, courage and fidelity through thick and thin, than John and Elizabeth Edwards. If you're looking for real moral strength and courage, the Edwards have both proved over and over that they can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

Stuff happens. A candidate with a perfectly healthy spouse and children on Inauguration Day can learn the next month or the next week or the next day that the beloved wife or husband or child has an incurable, life threatening illness, has suffered a fatal stroke or been killed in a terrible accident. Those things can happen to anyone elected President at any time.

Whatever happens, we already know we can count on John Edwards to persevere with grace and courage. To disqualify him on the basis of His wife's illness is nonsense. To listen to Hillary's nasty little non-issue based attacks on any other candidate is ridiculous.

Sometimes reading the comments following the First Read blog I get confused. My assumption would be that those reading the blog are interested in the subject and, for that matter the political process. However, when reading the comments, very few provide substance and further the discussion on the subject presented.

While we each have opinions and those we would like to see win the election, there is an appropriate way to add value to the discussion. Asking about the $300.00 haircut doesn't not add anything to the discussion.

In regards to the post from Lauren, I think that full transparency of campaign gifts would allow for a better picture of who is receiving and accepting support from lobbyists. While this may be discouraged for other reasons, it would better answer the question at hand. Public financing, to some degree makes the process more transparent.

Come on you guys - just because Edwards haircuts cost what they did and he lives in a large house - think about it. Just because he came from a family that didn't have much - does that mean he should stay that way - what he was taught was to work hard and better yourself which he is trying to do for the "below and middle class". Also in regards to Elizabeth having "breast/bone cancer" doesn't mean it is a "death sentence" and believe me I am a living example of what she is going thru. I also had breast cancer in 1986 (21 years ago) and then in 2003 had it go to my bones but I am doing fine, Thank God!!. I take a 10 mg pill twice a day and my oncolist doctor said in his own words "you will not die from this as we have lots of different medicines in treating this" I totally believe that Edwards will make the best president because he has lived and is living exactly what a lot of us are living.
