Well, I was two for three. I thought Richardson, Dodd and Biden were all making an immediate exit, just on the thought of how tough it would be to try to call potential donors or build an organization of volunteers in follow-on states, coming off 2 percent or less in Iowa. But I guess Richardson is going to give it a try. Best of luck.

Maybe his thinking is he can convince people the low finish is more representative of the caucus system than his actual support (and of course it is). But still, tough sell from here on out.

Obviously Richrdson ist trying to be a spoiler for Obama. By staying in the race, without having no chance, he might be trying to narrow a possible win for Obama or Edwards. Hillary had a mighty fine concession speachs. How graciously she showed her democratic heart. Thank you Hillary, that had style. Biden and Dodd did a fine job in definig foreign policy and show, that democrats have some very good experts in the race. I do admit, even as a foreigner living in Germany, I hope Obama wins. Wouldn´t it be nice to see a race Obama-McCain?

I think the way things are shaping up, especially
based on favorable reviews he has had, Richardson
seems more geared up for a possible vice-presidency.
But the same could be said for Biden. Both candidates, in fact, ALL the candidates for the democratic party appear to be the best group of people/candidates I have seen running in years. More's the pity that only one winner will take all.
This group would make an excellent advisory council so to speak; that thought lends itself to good governing, but this is America, we aren't known for doing things right. A pity they couldn't combine their good ideas and work together for a common cause. But, this is America. Right. This is America!

This is why the primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire are stupid. Two minor states vote and the field is cut in half. The states with large populations, bigger GDP's more electorate votes don't even get to here or access the candidates. Why should only some states get to control the selection of candidates and minor states at that.

I do admit I like the caucus methodology. Citizens should discuss and argue so as to know what and why you are voting. During the '04 election I remember hearing an Iowa voter saying she didn't pay much attention to politics but G dubya didn't seem to get a fair chance because of 9/11 so she was going to vote for him.

Isn't it wonderful that we got 4 more years of him because of informed voters like that.

Huckabee won the religious right, GW Bush won the religious right, and the President is ?GW Bush. So if Huckebee makes to the nominee against Obama, the Dems should kiss the White House goodbye. Big mistake Iowa, and probably NH according the polls, there will be no CHANGE, NO HEALTHCARE FOR ALL, OIL PRICES GOING UP, mainly because of Wall Street who backed Obama in money. Huckabee has very little to no chance. Pat Robertson won in Iowa and its no surprise Huckabee won. An evangelical Christian will never be President. It's too polarizing of a philosophy. Same as a hippie will never be President.

Romney or Giuliani will be the GOP nominee, and I have a feeling NH will decide the Democrat. If Hillary wins, she gets it. If Obama wins, he gets it.

Obama has no chance whatsoever to win a national election. None. His junior status and lack of experience will be his defining feature in a 50 state presidential run in November and he will be taken to the cleaners for this and the skeletons that people in the Democratic know have constantly alluded to, but not yet spoken. Neither does HRC and this dirty little secret is finally being alluded to, albeit cautiously, by the press that has previously lauded her with a crown. Edwards is another has-run, way left and not representative of the whole electorate that actually shows up in November. There seems to be a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on right about now ... same thing happened last two elections for the Dems. Sad, but true.

I think Bill Richardson coming out of this race with 2+% is a decent showing. I don't blame him for staying in.

But why isn't the media talking about Ron Paul now? He got 10% in Iowa and never once campaigned there.

I live in NH and if he can get 10% in IOWA, I think that indicates a heck of a run coming up in NH on Tuesday.

There is only one Democrat, and I would argue, only one candidate left that has the experience and proven ability to lead this country out of Bush's mess at home and abroad. His name is Bill Richardson. The two-term governor of New Mexico is also a 7 term Congressman, former Ambassador to the UN, Secretary of Energy, and 5 time Nobel Prize nominee. It was to New Mexico, not the White House, that North Korean diplomats journeyed to in the hopes of breaking the impasse of George Bush's sabre rattling. As a direct result of talks with Richardson North Korea shut down its nuclear reactor. He has proven that he can bring together disparate parties to the table. He has not always gotten results but, as history has shown us, sometimes just getting to the table is an accomplishment. Stay in the race Governor. America hasn't figured out how desparately it needs your leadership and experience. Take a listen New Hampshire and choose substance and proven leadership over money and image.

Addressing several of the comments already posted ...

Richardson's support in Iowa was much higher than 2%, but typically it fell between 10 and 15% as far as I know - thus, no delegates at most precincts. So, for example a 12% becomes a 0% as far as reporting goes.

Did the media even try to cover the "real" support Richardson had in Iowa? No. The media doesn't want to cover all the candidates - "show him getting 2%, and don't say anything about the skew of the caucus system - and maybe he'll go away so we'll have fewer people to cover from now on". Heck, even Edwards (now that Iowa has voted), is being mentioned less by the media - he finished 2nd after all. Huh?

Iowa probably has too much power over the process - yes; but you have to start somewhere. It should be a smaller state (but maybe a more "representative" state) - so everyone is heard. That said, Obama won in small part due to the large number of college students from Illinois that attend the Iowa universities.

Huckabee hasn't got a chance on the national stage - Bush had support from religious conservatives and business conservatives. That's the coalition that's worked for several elections for Republicans. The religious conservatives may like Huckabee, but the business conservatives backed Romney here in Iowa. There's no unity as there was with Bush.

The Ron Paul story should make news - no doubt (even if I disagree with most of what he says). But he'll never get much more than 10% anywhere - he's got a loyal following, but no pull on undecideds.

I think Biden dropped out a little prematurely as well. However, maybe his support will move to the other foreign policy expert running - Bill Richardson.

Only then will the media realize they need to cover all announced candidates - instead of letting their budgets limit their coverage. That's why Richardson and Biden got no pre-caucus coverage. That's why Kucinich is getting left out of debates. That's why Ron Paul doesn't get his 10% story. That's why we have "image marketing" rather than issue debate.

After viewing footage of the democratic debate the other night and tonight, the even keel and vast experience of Governor Richardson stood out. His understanding of budgets, diplomacy, education, and environmental issues are admirable. Sure Edwards, Clinton, and others mention conservation and alternative energy sources in passing, but Richardson presents a certain conviction when he presents his case. I saw the same conviction in a summer debate. And, what is wrong with a little experience? The Change vs. Experience debate appears distorted. While I long for Richardson's orations to carry more "zeal", his character and record are strong. His party nomination is a long-shot, but if he is chosen as a running mate, I would glady support him as Vice President. And the jab at his term as Energy Secretary? I know for certain that gas prices and utilities costs were not this high in 2000. In increasingly unstable international politics, I wouldn't mind employing more of Governor Richardson's diplomacy experience. Keep spreading your message Richardson!
