I caught most of the speech on C-span tonight. I was very impressed and I'm glad a candidate is talking about SPECIFICS of how to fix problems. My wife who doesn't follow politics as much as I do, was very impressed with Mitt's clarity. We've been leaning toward Rudy, but, I'll have to think hard in the next couple of weeks before our primary here in FL.

Mitt definitely understands how to fix problems (especially economic ones) quickly and efficiently.

With Gen. Patreus having turned around Iraq, we need someone that gives power to the people as our founders wrote in "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

Mitt Romney Flip Flopping again

A photograph of GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney at a 1994 Planned Parenthood fund-raiser has surfaced, once again raising questions about the former Bay State’s governor’s abortion flip-flopping.

The picture, a copy of which was obtained by the Herald, shows Romney and his wife Ann at a house party fund-raiser in Scituate with Nicki Nichols Gamble, who was the president of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts at the time. Romney has already downplayed ties to Planned Parenthood after revelations that Ann Romney donated $150 to the group.

Gamble said the pic was snapped at an event at GOP activist Eleanor Bleakie’s house and that she “clearly” remembered speaking with Romney at the event. At the time, Romney was running as a pro-choice Republican against U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“My recollection is that we talked about his senate candidacy and the fact that he was supporting Roe v. Wade and a choice agenda at the time,” Gamble told the Herald. “It was a Planned Parenthood event. We were there to discuss our programs and our advocacy.”

The event was held the same day Ann Romney wrote a check to the pro-choice group. Romney has previously said he had “no recollection” of his wife writing the check to Planned Parenthood.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom called the flap “a dog bites man story.”

“Governor Romney used to have a different position on abortion,” Fehrnstrom said. “He is now firmly pro-life and has made it clear that as President he will advocate for a culture that welcomes life and protects the sanctity of life. This is the same path that Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush followed.”

Because of his abortion shift, Romney has been branded a flip-flopper by his GOP primary opponents, as well Democrats. Romney has stated he became pro-life in 2004 during the stem cell debate in Massachusetts.

Beyond attending the event, Romney filled out a 2002 questionnaire for the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund in which he said he supported Roe v. Wade, sex education in schools and increased access to emergency contraception.

“With Mitt Romney, this has been more than a flip-flop. This has been an extreme makeover,” said Planned Parenthood spokesman Angus McQuilken. “What voters need to know about Mitt Romney is this: where he stands on any issue is always a moving target.”

Last week, Bay Windows, a Boston gay newspaper, reprinted excerpts from a letter Romney wrote to the Log Cabin Republicans in 1994, hoping to gain the group’s support in his campaign against the veteran Democratic lawmaker and Massachusetts institution.

How many days has Erin McPike been out of college? Can't MSNBC find anyone with some basic knowledge and experience to cover a presidential candidate? I listened to Mr. Romney's speech to the Economic Club today. He was informed, intelligent, specific, and passionate. I guess he didn’t talk about the ‘fierce urgency of hope’; he didn’t play his bass guitar…McPike couldn’t connect…didn’t get it. Romney talked intelligently about the auto industry and the economy. McPike couldn’t keep up, fell asleep, then had to find a wrinkle for the story. I don’t think it really worked though. McPike making snide comments about Romney’s discussion of business and the economy is like McPike teaching Huckabee how to deliver a sermon. Stick to something you know, if you know anything.

McPike: “The first? YET ANOTHER conglomeration of forces that will come together to try and fix the problem with Romney’s “can-do” leadership overseeing the partnership." Apparently McPike doesn't understand the significance of the statement given the fractured relationship and inability to communicate between auto industry leadership and Washington. McPike, how do the words, “Yet another’, contribute to the story?

McPike: "and YANKING from Washington the power to impose CAFÉ standards." HILLARIOUS! Romney rightly made the case that Washington has strapped automakers with UNFUNDED CAFE standards. Mr. Romney supports a partnership approach, where CAFE standards are accompanied by assistance...he understands that CAFE standards benefit ALL of America (and stated as much), and therefore should not be imposed at the cost and peril of automakers alone. McPike is either a biased pretender, or a few bricks shy of a full load.

McPike: "And although Romney has vowed to be the president that will slash spending, he volunteered the following: “I will make a five-fold increase -- from $4 billion dollars to $20 billion dollars – in our national investment in energy research, fuel technology, materials science, and automotive technology.” Of course, he didn’t offer any indication about how he would pay for the exponential bump."

HILLARIOUS! What is with the “Of course” again? And how can an adult make such a ridiculous statement? Try to keep up McPike. It’s possible to CUT overall spending, and still INCREASE spending for specific items. I don’t expect you to understand how that’s possible right away…take your time…talk to your mom…it will come to you. Of course it will.

McPike: "Of course, with that, he explained that that was better left to the states." Of course! Of course he did. Of course. Why of course. A horse is a horse, of course. HILLARIOUS! McPike, try to keep up. It’s actually not unusual for a Republican to advocate State's rights. You see, we actually have State governments and a Federal government…never mind. Google state sovereignty and try to brush up.

I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO FIND A VIDEO COPY OF MR. ROMNEY’S ADDRESS. Mr. Romney was spot on.

It would be GREAT too if MSNBC would put credible adults on the trail. I realize its tough to convince adults with families etc. to leave home and spend time on the trail, but COME ON…this is a PRESIDENTIAL contest! It would be GREAT too if some of these would be 'journalists' would disclose their politics, rather than continue to PRETEND to be journalists.

Romney's 'Experience' is Forcing Thousands of Americans out of their jobs, and forcing Thousands more to take cuts in pay just to keep their jobs--forcing buy-outs--NOT Creating Jobs.

Romney's short "experience" AS A PUBLIC SERVANT caused 'his' state of Massachusetts to be the Only State, during Romney's 4 years, to post ZERO GAIN in EMPLOYED RESIDENTS! He brought MA in @ 3RD FROM THE BOTTOM in Creating New Jobs (MA would've been 2ND FROM BOTTOM but Katrina destroyed Louisiana--even Huckabee knew how to help create jobs for his state while he was governor of Arkansas). There were 222,000 MORE residents who moved OUT of MA, than moved into the fair state, under Romney's 'leader'-ship (Center For Market Studies, Northwestern University. Boston Globe, 07/29/07,).

Romney's choice for advisor is J.Cofer Black--who already failed our nation miserably while chosen by Tenet to take care of the Taliban/bin Laden, before/during/after 911. Black--who is already criticized for wanting to give too much power to 'private security firms.' Black--Vice Chairman, Blackwater/Chairman, The Black Group LLC. Romney also claimed he has chosen Hoekstra as advisor. Hoekstra--Intelligence Commitee while FBI and CIA were playing 'keep-away' with vital information before/during 911, costing thousands of lives. Hoekstra--who ordered the creation of a web site which gave instructions for anyone looking to create a nuclear bomb--it was taken down when NYTimes began asking questions.

I would sooner trust McCain or Huckabee, as "Commander in Chief"--to choose wise advisors to protect our nation, to protect our military--wise advisors to bring more jobs into our nation, instead of lining their own pockets shutting jobs down.

Yeah, I'd rather hear the truth, than hope alone. "Where's the BEEF?" Why aren't candidates and the media getting to the meat of this campaign?--talking the hard facts and giving us Solid PLANS that show us hope?

Funny, but in this article he says he's got "cars in his bloodstream" yet in abother article about his visit to the auto show he "hasn't kept track" of the import-cars that he may have owned "over the years". He drives a Mustang now...What year? 64 1/2? Because a guy with "cars in his bloodstream" really ought to be able to remember at least a couple other cars that he's owned besides his current, politically correct Detroit-made ride. Not to mention that a guy with roughly $100 million dollars in the bank usually has more than one set of wheels in the garage. It's no big deal to me what he drives, but it just seems like he's once again put on his chameleon suit, changing his image to suit the audience, as in this case, where the unemployed auto industry people do not want to vote for a guy that puts his chassis on Mercedes or BMW and leaves them out of work, sitting on theirs.

While Romney panders and whines in concert with the U.S. auto industry, the Europeans and Japanese concentrate on building better, more fuel efficient cars instead of behemoths like the Hummer, massive pick-up trucks (recently rolled out by Ford), and ever larger SUV's. VW's latest diesel powered Passat can go 850 miles on a tank of gas. American manufactures (and Mitt Romney of late) want to shift the blame for poor sales and loss of jobs to increased Federal fuel standards rather than actually build really fuel efficent cars that aren't the size of houses. Detroit is stuck and until they realize that oil is not getting any cheaper and that dressing up pigs in fancy clothes won't sell in the volumes they need to survive, they will continue to lose market share. Is it any wonder that the new owners of Chrysler named their company "Cerberus"? In Greek mythology it's the name of the three-headed dog guarding the entrance to Hades.
