Wow Huckabee. Way to channel almost the exact words that Romney has been using in the last two elections (NH and MI). While Huck has been (until now), spouting on and on about how McCain is a national hero, Romney, while acknowledging that, has also said that a Washington insider isn't going to change Washington simply by changing seats.

Perhaps Huck should come up with his own rhetoric. It would make him sound more viable.

Statement from Lois Davidson, Mother of Killer's Victim, in Response to Huckabee

Lois Davidson, whose daughter Carole Sue Shields was raped and killed in 2000 by a criminal whose release from prison was championed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, issued the following statement today in response to Huckabee's contention in a television interview that her story was being "exploited" for political purposes:
"Last night, Mike Huckabee accused me of being exploited and used for political purposes. I assure you, Mr. Huckabee, I am not being exploited. I am fully aware of the actions I have taken in attempting to inform the public of your role in my daughter's rape and murder. I have spent over 7 years thinking about this.
"I am not a dupe. But you, Governor Huckabee, were duped time and again by convicted felons who once released from prison by you began hurting people again.
"Mr. Huckabee, I am not a victim. However, my daughter was a victim. She was raped and murdered by a serial rapist that you wanted freed from prison. Please be honest about the role you played in releasing my daughter's killer."

Huckabee's dismissal of Davis came during an interview on the Hannity and Colmes television program following a Republican debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Davidson's story is the subject of an ad aired in South Carolina this week focusing on Huckabee's dismal record on the rights of crime victims. The ad was developed and paid for by Victims Voice, an Arkansas-based victims advocacy group and can be viewed on the Victims Voice Web site at www.victimsvoice527.com.

The 60-second ad from Victims Voice tells of how Shields was raped and murdered in 2000 by Wayne Dumond, a former inmate in Arkansas prisons whose release was championed by Huckabee. After his release, Dumond relocated to Missouri, where he raped and killed Shields and is believed to have killed another woman. Dumond died in prison in 2005.

Victims Voice is a non-profit 527 launched in December 2007 to expose the Mike Huckabee record of releasing hardened criminals from prison. During his 10 ½ years as governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee released over 1,000 criminals from Arkansas prisons. That total is more than that of the previous two Democratic governors combined, one of whom was Bill Clinton.

"Gov. Huckabee's suggestion that Lois Davidson is being 'exploited' is deplorable, and his callous dismissal of Ms. Davidson as a political pawn is shameful," said Keith Emis, director of Victims Voice. "According to all published reports, Huckabee played a key role in supporting Dumond's release, but now he's trying to run from his record. How many more women must die or live in fear before Mike Huckabee is held accountable for his actions?"

Pat, the Bible supports that the universe was here when God Created the Earth and mankind (God and the universe he's resided in is infinite). However, God saw that it was empty and decided to speak the contents of this vast expanse and Create what we see now a good 6-10 thousand years ago. Much of the problem for science has been the lack of acceptance of the effects of the flood. The flood changed the entire landscape of the earth as well as fossilizing those on it. This is why for so many years, science has miscalculated the age of the earth. The evidence is all around us. You have to dig past the athiestic views and see the truth. This "concrete" evidence you speak of doesn't exist. Everytime man challenges the Bible's accuracy, they are put to shame. I challenge you to look into what the Bible actually says, verify it, and compare to the actual facts that true science can give. I really believe that true science goes hand in hand with God's Word. Just use the Bible as a guide and you can't go wrong. You have to have an open mind and really start digging to find the truth.

Huckabee has been speaking about the dangers of our economy, and how the middle class hasn't been experiencing the success of the stock market like the wealthy have. He's been saying from the beginning, that while on paper the eonomy might look good, but the average American feels the effects of $3/gal gas and rapidly increasing healthcare, food & education costs. He was criticized by his fellow candidates for "not understanding the economy."

And then out of the blue, Romney changes his message of economic prosperity to the concerns of the struggling middle class...just in time to win Michigan. How convenient.

I think Huckabee will win big in South Carolina. As my friends down there tell me: "we don't care for politicians with an accent. Mike Huckabee doesn't have an accent down here...Mitt & McCain do."

You comments about the fair tax are ludicrous too. The fair tax is anything but fair. What if you are not in the 25 or 27% tax bracket? What if you are an older person living on social security? The fair tax would be a huge tax increase on people like that. And, it doesn't account for the states and local governments that impose their own sales taxes. Samantha- how could Romney have stolen Huck's words when Romney said them first? If you are referring to other issues, Huck has also "flip flopped", and not always to more conservative postions as Romney has. Need some examples? How about Huck's stance on Cuba, amnesty, taxes? Just to name a few.

In regards to religion, as a Mormon, I'm fine with TRUE statements about what we believe and honest questions. I am not remotely embarrassed about my faith. Neither is Romney; but as he has said, he is not, nor will he be a spokesman for the church, because that is an inappropriate role for someone running for president. However, slanderous statements, lies, and purposeful misquotes/misinterpretations of ANY religion is bigotted. There is a lot of that against the LDS church on these pages. But our faith is definitely not the only one that has been victim to this.

In regards to "open season on Huckabee's Christian beliefs", Huckabee has invited it. He is the self-proclaimed "Authentic Christian Candidate". He brings religion into nearly every debate. Rather than just saying that he wants to bring the Constitution in line with conservative values, he says it should line up with "God's Word"...according to him. He uses Biblical analogies in his stumping. I think most people are fine with Christianity (a majority of American are, afterall, Christians). People don't like feeling like it's being crammed down their throats. If they want to listen to a pastor, they go to church. If they want to listen to a presidential candidate, they watch the debates. The problem is, Huckabee can't seem to separate the two.

I'm fine with Huck letting his background influence him. That is good. But he need to know where to modify the rhetoric to something that is appropriate and in context with his audience.

Huckabee is a true SOCIAL conservative, and always has been. I don't think anyone is denying that. But then, Thompson and McCain claim the same thing. However Huckabee (and McCain) are NOT fiscal conservatives.

--When I think about the Constitution and amendments, I think that it should reflect the rights we have, not tell us those we don't. (I know that isn't historically always the case). I can see an argument regarding abortion as such an amendment would pertain to the rights of the unborn human life. On the other hand, I do not see a similar argument regarding homosexuality, as such an amendment would only stand to eliminate/not promote human/citizen rights.

No, I don't think this is the case. As a Mormon, I don't think it's any more okay for someone to bash the Baptist religion than it is to bash the Mormon religion. I don't have a problem with people posting TRUE and ACCURATE facts about the Mormon church. I am not bothered by people asking legitimate questions. I am not ashamed or embarrassed by my beliefs. I don't believe that Romney is either. However, he has stated that he is not, nor intends to be, a spokesman for the church. That is not an apropriate role for a presidential candidate. He has not hid his religion from anyone, he just doesn't spend his campaign time talking about it.

Religious talk becomes bigotted when it is slanderous, intentionally misleading, inaccurate, or incredibly biased by hate for some other reason (relevent or not). I'm fine with Huckabee being motivated by and living his beliefs. He should. What people object to is feeling like he is forcing it down our throats. He needs to learn keep his beliefs a part of him, but modify his speech to be appropriate to the audience he is addressing.

He has changed his position on Cuba trade embargo to compete in Florida, on a national smoking ban to compete in South Carolina, on the troop surge where he is on video opposing, on running a positve campaign while making personal attacks on Romney and attacks on both Mormon and Catholics ( he and his supporters went around Iowa reminding people Brownback was Catholic and not a born again)

Sean, I am neither an idiot, nor dumb. Nor do I degrade myself by childish name calling. I have been following the race. This "voice" is something Romney used at the very beginning of his campaign as well- over a year ago. He talked about the economy then too. He simply let that part of his speech go for awhile. This is true of all the candidates. They focus on the part of their stump speeches that will most appeal to their current audience. This is why Huckabee's religious speech was less a part of his campaign in NH. It's called politics- you appeal to the people to whom you are speaking.

You may not like it, but that's how it works. The trick is to be aware of what they have said throughout the whole campaign (plus their previous records/history). Then you will "know" the candidate as best as you can.

Pat, I can see why you would be upset, but the fact is homosexuality IS a sin just as much as lieing, stealing, murder, etc. We all sin in some way. To those who choose not to believe this way, well that's your choice. However, this country should not be endorsing or passing laws in favor of this unnatural behavior. It is very destructive to the basics of how sexual relationships were designed to be. One that creates life. Granted we are all born with different tendancies to do wrong things, but it's still our responsibility to decide not to. I have family members who are gay and we still love them, but they also know that we don't agree with them and don't believe they should be legally married or receive any benefits that a heterosexual marriage has.

Chris- I also agree with you on this, he has never SAID that. Some people think he acts like it though.

As far as him "having the guts to stand up for Christian principles", I can only agree to a point. Mind you, there was a time when I had a very positive view of Huckabee. Before I had chosen my top two choices, he was a contender. But then I learned more about him. I agree that he has the guts to stand up for pro-life and pro-marriage Christian principles. That's great. But what about the basics in the commandments? According to numerous sources, he took thousands of dollars worth of stuff from the governor's mansion that wasn't his (stealing), he tried to change the laws so that he could get more gifts (coveting), he tried to cover up his son's murder of an innocent animal by attempting to fire the cop investigating it (murder), and many people feel he's using God to promote himself in this campaign (using the Lord's name in vain).

You probably totally disagree with me on this, and I respect that. But these were just some of the discrepancies in his 'religious' record that made me look more closely into his political record, and in the end convinced me to choose different candidates to support.

By the way, I am very well aware that pretty much any of the politicians would struggle under the "10 commandments" test that I just gave Huckabee... but none of the rest of them are campaigning as the "authentic Christian candidate".

By the way, only three of the GOP candidates have been faithful to their respective wives throughout their marriages (Huckabee, Romney, Paul). I admire all three of them for their morality in this area, which I think is incredibly important.

Mike Huckabee is not trying to impose some kind of Christian law. His position has always been that the debates should be about the issues, not about his view of God. Everyone has constantly made His belief in God an issue. Romney was a bishop in the Mormon church, but who cares? If we did care then consider that of the 55 men who formed our Constitution, 52 were active members of their Church! this is about leadership. Focus people.

Mike clearly wins in the fact that he has been re-elected over and over in Arkansas from Lt. Governor to Governor. People in Arkansas love mike for what great changes he made for it. Time magazine named Huckabee in the top 5 Governors in America!

Mike has been saying that Washington isn't going to change Washington since day one. You only think Romney was because he is a flip flopper. He has supported every side of every view. Thats why people have been calling him Multiple choice for years! He did not serve but one term, didn't dare to try and get re-elected, and wasn't noticed by Time magazine for anything.

Betty Jo, you're right, SOME parts of the Biblical law are part of our nation's law. And you are right, a lot of it is beign ignored. However, there are parts of the Biblical law that are not a part of our law. For that matter, there are parts of the Old Testament law that are not a part of the New Testament law and visa versa. For example, we no longer offer animals sacrifices as a means of repentance, a woman is no longer the property of her husband, and if a couple divorses and each remarries, the individuals involved are not thought of as adulterers.

With all due respect to Mr. Huckabee, what is he going to do to prevent the psycho people out there from killing their children, etc.? How would he personally as president, have prevent the pregnant marine's murder?

Unfortunately, there will always be senseless acts of crime. NO president, no matter how pious, is going to be able to prevent that, even with alterations to the Constitution. And if he wants to, he will first have to set the example of how one SHOULD act... while I prefer some of the candidates to others, none of them (or any of us) have led a perfect life.

Wow this one is getting strange! Anyway just want to point somehting out. Huckabee and other Evangelicals go into their churches and preach about whom to vote for. And Mormon lay Priesthood holders say nothing about politics whatsoever in church. Why? BECAUSE IT IS AGAIST THE LAW! No kidding, a church is supposed to lose its tax exempt status whenever stuff like that happens, especially from the pulpit. Anyway, another interesting observation, the last time I visited an Evangelical church the pastor spent more time preaching agaist Moromons and Catholics than he did presching FOR anything. Pastors do not get up and preach about who to vote for. That's not what is going on here, as you pointed out, that would be illegal.

What is going on is pastors are exercising their free speech OUTSIDE of the church to encourage people to come together for a common cause they believe in. While Huckabee preaches in some churches, he doesn't get up and endorse anyone including himself. There is no law against a politician speaking in a church. The Democrats do it all the time.
