Anyone who reads Obama's statement without bias will easily understand that he was speaking about history, not ideology. Can anyone deny that Reagan changed politics in America? Just as it's pretty undeniable that Bill Clinton--good president though he was--did NOT change America or the way politics works in any noticeable way.

If Hillary by some miraculous lining up of the planets was to become president, it is clear she would not be and has no desire to be a transformational president.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

WHO CARE ABOUT HILLARY....SHE IS A LIAR AND A FAKE....SHE WOULD SELL HER
SOUL TO THE DEVIL IF IT MEANT SHE WOULD GET ELECTED.....SHE DISTORTS OTHERS
RECORDS BECAUSE SHE CAN'T RUN ON HER OWN...

"Hillary Clinton has sponsored 350 bills since Jan 22, 2001, of which 304
haven't made it out of committee (Very Poor) and 2 were successfully enacted
(Average, relative to peers)."

SHE IS ONE ACCOMPLISH POLITICIAN....AND HER RECORDS SHOWS IT

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Hillary is dumb or a liar. Hilary and Edwards represent what is wrong with American politics. To call Obama a traitor because he would dare to say something positive about Reagan proves deadlock will continue if either one (Edwards or Clinton) is elected. Obama (not my choice) at least can curb his rhetoric enough to embrace the fact that Reagan was an outsider when people wanted something different. Also Bill Clinton did not change these horrible polocies HRC is talking about. Give Obama credit for reaching asross the aisle(however little) this is more than the other two are willing to do. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, told the editorial board of the Reno Gazette-Journal, in which he had the temerity to assert that Republicans don't necessarily have cloven hooves.

Asked how his being the nominee might help down-ballot candidates, such as Senators and Congressmen, get elected, he said: "If I'm the nominee, one thing I'm convinced about, I will have a better chance of bringing in people of like mind. One of the things I'm very proud of in this campaign is I think we've already changed the political dialogue. I mean, you think about it, you know, when Mitt Romney starts talking like me. Right? Which wasn't the case when he started off. But suddenly everyone's ...'Change.' And you have someone like a Huckabee who is doing very well, basically taking a similar tone of, 'Well, we can disagree without being disagreeable.'

"I think that we're shifting the political paradigm here. And if I'm the nominee, I think I can bring a lot of folks along on my coattails. You know, there's a reason why in 2006, I made the most appearances for members of Congress. I was the most requested surrogate to come in and campaign for people in districts that were swing districts, Republican districts where they wouldn't have any other Democrat.

"That was based on their read of the fact that, you know what, this is somebody who can reach out to independents and Republicans in a way that doesn't offend people…I don't want to present myself as some sort of singular figure. I think part of what's different are the times.

"I do think that, for example, the 1980 election was different. I mean, I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that, you know, Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. They felt like, you know, with all the excesses of the 60's and the 70's and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating and he tapped into what people were already feeling. Which is, people wanted clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamic and entrepreneurship that had been missing, alright? I think Kennedy, twenty years earlier, moved the country in a fundamentally different direction. So I think a lot of it just has to do with the times.

"I think we're in one of those times right now. Where people feel like things as they are going aren't working. We're bogged down in the same arguments that we've been having, and they're not useful. And, you know, the Republican approach, I think, has played itself out. I think it's fair to say the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last ten, fifteen years, in the sense that they were challenging conventional wisdom. Now, you've heard it all before. You look at the economic policies when they're being debated among the Presidential candidates and it's all tax cuts. Well, you know, we've done that, we tried it. That's not really going to solve our energy problems, for example. So, some of it's the times. And some of it's, I think, there's maybe a generation element to this, partly. In the sense that there's a, I didn't did come of age in the battles of the 60's. I'm not as invested in them.

"And so I think I talk differently about issues. And I think I talk differently about values. And that's why, I think we've been resonating with the American people." Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, has taken one section of this and totally mischaracterized it to say that Obama was saying Republicans had "better" ideas.

"I have to say, you know, my leading opponent the other day said that he thought the Republicans had better ideas than Democrats the last ten to fifteen years," she said. "That's not the way I remember the last ten to fifteen years."

One can argue that Obama, during a heated primary, shouldn't give his opponents such easy opportunities to twist his words. And maybe that's a rookie mistake - as with his attempt to actually answer the question at the Vegas debate when asked his greatest weakness.

But that doesn't mean we should let the twisters of his words off the hook. Because that's being complicit in dishonesty.

Turning from dishonesty to hypocrisy.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

jeez - the Clinton campaign is in full panic and attack mode.

Obama didn't say the repubs had better ideas - he just said that the republicans were the "party of ideas in challenging conventional wisdom". How you slant this into saying that Obama has embraced republican ideas is amazing.

Obama is the more progressive candidate than Sen. Ronald Reagan did more to undermine working people, and the middle class than than the present GWB could ever dream of... It's unbelievable that Obama would use his as a platform for his message of change.

Both gaffs **highlight** Obama's real lack of understanding... Then there is his church minister, yeah that's right Obama's Church Minster who married Obama, coming out and embracing Louis Farrakhan, this is not Obama's fault, but is Obama so naive to believe that this is not "nitroglycerin" in the hands of republicans...

All of it.... His self proclaimed disorganized approach to leadership, then Ronald Reagan, and now his place of worship embracing Louis Farrakhan....

*I want my vote to count,* I have been leaning back and fourth between Hillary Clinton and Obama, and I have not excluded Edwards, when push comes to shove... But I am beginning to see Obama's amateurish self destructiveness really taking center stage.... At this point I do not see him being able to handle the Republicans. They will take his "Zen" message of change/uniter and serve him for a light appetizer on the Republican attack machines table... Sorry folks he just doesn't have it, he will not survive on "training wheels" against the Republicans.

For sure my vote will go to Clinton or Edwards, in the primary. At this point, I am beginning to wonder if Obama is going to become a liability even as VP on the ticket. He gives great speech's so did Ronald Reagan.

Ronald Reagan took health care away from the Elderly, College tuition was virtually free at the UNIV of CALIFORNIA, he increased tuition in the state dramatically, he also took money away from student loans, and on top of that added additional student loan disbursement fees, in the hundreds of dollars.

He pointed to mostly single mothers on welfare, as being drunkards and to hear him say it were bankrupting the country. The welfare budget was 1% of the national budget, just more Republican (BS) of beating up on little people who could not defend themselves.

He busted unions, gave massive tax cuts to top 1% of richest Americans, and gave every penny he could rake and scrape out of the middle class to defense contractors.

He wasn't allowed to answerer questions on his own because of his lack of really understanding issues, he sleep in the White House, during meetings.... It's endless, of what a truly disaster of a President he was, with regard to everyday working people. He was a good speaker, a great salesman, but a terrible President for working people...

I'm insulted that Obama chooses "Reaganism" as a platform to speak to, or try to crystallize his message of change. Obama's an amateur and the Republicans are licking their chops at the prospect of running against him.
Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Someone is giving Obama a very stupid advice, instead of calling those people political JJC,you all are trying to blame Hilary. Senator Obama needs to refresh his history. President Reagon did the Iran-Conta move before President Carter left office...to build his public image. He coined the phrase.."welfare queen". He cut funds for mental health....creating millions of street people who are abused and neglected. He gave tax cuts to the rich...who profited off the crash of the Unions...demoralizing the blue collar worker and lowering wages all over the USA. He despised the black movement and cut funds in all areas of education, health and welfare. President Nixon deserves equal or as much credit for the fall of the USSR as is given to Reagan. His economic policy has been proven false over and over again. He was an elitist who wouldnt allow other to express different opinions. And now we have this Senator ....saying that President Reagan changed the country. He sure did....it was the beginning of the destruction of the middle class. Senator Obama is an egotistical, intellectual, air-head. This interview just proves it to me. He reminds me of a twenty something...or maybe late teens....who think they have all the answers to life. He demonstrates gross immaturity. If they are so gullible Hill will make Bill have a affair for the sympathy vote.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

But no president can do it alone. She must break recent tradition, cast cronyism aside and fill her cabinet with the best people, not only the best Democrats, but the best Republicans as well.. We’re confident she will do that. Her list of favorite presidents - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Truman, George H.W. Bush and Reagan - demonstrates how she thinks. As expected, Bill Clinton was also included on the aforementioned list.

This is a list of Hillary's favorite Presidents from a press release on HER website.

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=4674

Interesting huh? Reagan, George H.W. What a crock. Not that she isn't a capable politican, but just for this time nor set of special needs. Edwards is at best a cabinat member. Great passion but it needs direction. Obama can give it just what it needs. Hillary can and should offer her considerable influence to the good for this nation. She would be better served helping someone who has a vision to actually take us to a better place as a nation. That is clearly and unmistakenly Barack Obama. All the Clintons do is attack Barack Obama. That means they are always looking up at him while trying to be condescending. Dosen't work anymore. Too many people are beginning to recognizing the truth and who is telling it. - Thank you Barack.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Flimsy and clumsy view of Obama is self evident when he admired Ronald Reagan who

1. Nobody trusts him or his cronies anymore and the consequences of his untruthfulness, or sheer ignorance, have not only siphoned off America's treasures and faith, but it has heavily stained our once honorable reputation around the world. We have learned the painful lesson of what happens when we lose trust in our leaders.

So what is it going to take to repair that trust? It is going to take integrity beyond reproach. It is going to take that special and rare individual that speaks the truth and doesn't hold anything back for convenience. Trust is that feeling you have when you know you found the right doctor, or the right priest, or the right mechanic. Trust is that bond that you have with your best friend, that friend that knows all of your secrets and your fears and could use that arsenal against you on a whim.

We've all been wronged. We have all had trust compromised by someone we consider close. It is the most miserable feeling you can have and it can scar you bad enough that it taints your decisions and skews your actions going forward. It becomes such a fragile thing that it is only given again to someone that has proven themselves through noble deeds and steadfast integrity.

Here is where I find my first big contrast between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. As an example lets take the NH primaries. We all know the outcome. We all know how shocked everyone paying attention was when the final tally was in. Everything pointed to a sizable victory for Barack Obama. Even Hillary Clinton's camp was so confident they would lose that they say she did not write a victory speech (if that was ad-lib though, it was pretty good). I'm not saying they did anything wrong or shady, but a funny thing happened to me when I heard those results, something that I have a pretty strong hunch was not unique to me. That little voice inside said, "how did she do it, how did she bend the system?" That's the little voice that follows the Clinton's. Even though Bill Clinton will in effect be a factor in her Presidency, I won't even get into his strained relationship with the truth and trust, you can read all about it in the works of Kenneth Starr, I will stick with Hillary and the aura of her campaign.

If this voice chiming in was an isolated incident I could shoo it away like a pesky fly, but it's not. I heard it when I saw that girl wink after asking a question at one of Hillary's events. I heard it when she said her campaign is in no way complicit in this Nevada lawsuit brought by some of her backers, some of the very people that originally designed the plan, but they did it only after the coveted endorsement of the powerful Culinary Union went to her opponent. This one actually is not just a voice, it has an accompanying odor and everybody over there is trying to stay straight faced so as not to raise suspicion that the odor came from them. I heard that voice when she said Barack Obama was not always against the war and used snippets and innuendo out of context in a vain attempt to smear his credibility. I heard it when Bill said he was against the war from the beginning and she agreed. I heard that voice when she said she made decision to get rid of Billy Shaheen even though he is the one who resigned. I heard it when she said that Robert Johnson was talking about Obama's community service "in the neighborhood", and she agreed. Let's just say I've heard that voice a lot and I don't think I'm alone. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

Now we come to Barack Obama. How do you feel about someone who's signature issue at the state and federal levels was ethics reform. Ethics? In Washington? Dare we dream? How do you feel about someone that had the most powerful political machine in America trying to dig up dirt and the best they could come up with were the unabashed ambitions of a five year old, or the openly admitted drug use of a conflicted teenager. The best they could do is misrepresent his strategic "present" votes which were made with the blessings of his fellow Democrats in Illinois as part of a larger plan to achieve larger objectives. The best they could do is claim he plays politics because he chose not to throw the 2004 Democratic nominee and his running mate under the bus for their misguided vote to go to war with Iraq, a misguided vote that I might add she was complicit in, but unlike them has not apologized for. She claimed he was a liar because he says he doesn't play politics and was doing so in that case. Unfortunately she forgot to listen to his rules of governing "not by polls, but by principle, not by calculation, but by conviction." Principle and conviction told him not to shatter the Democratic party and take one for the team at potential personal cost. That's integrity. That's character. That breeds trust.

Personally, I like not hearing voices. I like not having to dissect every word to find the truth myself. I like knowing that a strong moral compass is the guide. I like knowing ethics are the standard not the exception. I like feeling trust.

How do these candidates stack up so far for you America?
Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Who are the defenders of the status quo ? Is that you ?
Reagan did spawn a 'sea change' in American politics.
Obama hopes to spawn a new 'sea change'. Change based on the ideals of unity - not division (and certainly not modeled after Reagan's ideas)
How can anyone look at the state of modern politics and the outlook for our country guided by our current stautus quo - how can this 'sea change' of unified working government not make sense.
Anyone who has paid any attention knows what Obama is speaking of about the Republican Party being guided by 'ideas' for the past 15 years... you don't have to subscribe to those ideas but they are, none the less, ideas. The same could be said of the Democratic party of the late 50's and into the 60's - Kennedy Idealism. Both of these movements ran their course and were watered down by time. That explains the state of the Democratic Party in the 70's and 80's. It also explains the 'washed out' state of the Republican Party today.
--- Why do 'we' resent being talked to as if we had the capacity for knowledge. That is how Barack Obama is speaking to America... as if 'we can' understand. Why would we sell ourselves short and believe that we are past our zenith... that we are a declining people. Come on people... Now is the time to show some strength of character.

Barack Obama for President of the UNITED States of America.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Afternoon with Barack Obama
Video--with Reagan reference--
http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080115/VIDEO/80115026&oaso=news.rgj.com/breakingnews
Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

i think we have a man worse than George Bush. We cannot afford another 4 years. It strikes me that a man whom the press glorified as the Second Coming of Christ is now invoking Ronald Reagan who did so many wrong things against most people, especially unionized workers. It is shamenful for any union leadership to endorse or support this dangerous man at this defining moment of our time.

You can fool the people some time but not all the time.

Hillary will win and be our next President. I pray that God provides her with good people who will rule wisely and bring peace and properity first to americans and then the rest of the world. I also pray to God that she groom a good person to pass on the mantle to after 8 years.

We need to keep the world from Republican ideas and policies. They only provoke unrest and war all over the world and bring insecurity to this naton and the world.

i urge all Democrats to vote for Hillary and turn away from that fake Obama.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

I heard Obama walked on water yesterday.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Add John Edwards to the list referring to Reagan:

We need a new path, one that will lead to reengagement with the world and restoration of the United States' moral authority in the community of nations. President Harry Truman once said, "No one nation alone can bring peace. Together, nations can build a strong defense against aggression and combine the energy of free men everywhere in building a better future for all." For 50 years, presidents from Truman and Dwight Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton built strong alliances and deepened the world's respect for us. We gained that respect by viewing our military strength not as an end in itself but as a means to protect a system of laws and institutions that gave hope to billions across the globe. In avoiding the temptation to rule as an empire, we hastened the fall of a corrupt and evil one in the Soviet Union. The lesson is that we cannot only be warriors; we must be thinkers and leaders as well.

Millions of people imprisoned behind the Iron Curtain silently cheered the day President Reagan declared, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" ..., they looked to our president and saw a person -- and a nation -- they could trust.

Presidents Kennedy and Reagan talked with Soviet leaders at the height of the Cold War, in both cases turning back major threats to our national security. We need to do the same with Iranian and North Korean leaders.

http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20070901faessay86502/john-edwards/reengaging-with-the-world.html

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Ronald Reagan is simply the latest in the long list of deceased presidents and others (JFK, MLK, and Abraham Lincoln among them) upon whose coattails Obama is attempting ride into the White House.

Ronald Reagan and JFK were so much more than "change agents," I'd find Obama's statement insulting if he weren't so naive. Both Reagan and Kennedy were accomplished and experienced political leaders with specific policy agendas they'd developed over years of wrestling with public issues, Reagan as governor of California and JFK during his 14 years in Congress and, although Obama joins them in a list of gifted orators, both Reagan and JFK were both much, much more.

Obama, however, appears to be nothing but a slick salesman, an empty suit who apparently believes (not unlike the current occupant of the White House) that the duties of the presidency can be outsourced, and that, by continually drawing comparisons between himself and various great presidents of the past, the American people will be persuaded to ignore the man behind the curtain and focus instead on the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.

Thanks, but no thanks - I think I'll take a pass on the Obama Kool-Aid.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

Okay, quick question: Is Hillary going to apologize for this latest spin-laden, absurd attack on Obama sometime next week, or will she just fire her staff writer?

This is getting out of hand. The Hillary campaign is obviously scared of Obama. You've got all of her surrogates digging dirt from the most absurd places, Firing after apology after lie after equivocation, Bill frothing at the mouth at reporters, now this.

"The truth is right there in front of you, but they lay out this buffet of lies. I'M SICK OF IT, AND I'M NOT GONNA TAKE A BITE OUT OF IT, YOU GOT ME?!? Resistance is not futile. We're gonna win this thing. Human kind is too good. We're not a bunch of underachievers. We're gonna stand up and be HUMAN BEINGS! We're gonna get FIRED UP about the real things, the things that MATTER! Creativity and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit."

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

WATCH OUT HILLARY S BLASTING PEOPLE WONDER SHE HASNT BLASTED HUCKABEE OVER HIS BEASTILITY COMMENT. YOU KNOW HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE WHITE TRASY DEMS AND THEIR PETS. THIS WILL MAKE BARBARA BOXER GET RID OF HER BOXER, AND IM SURE MISS SAN FRANCISCO, NANCY PELOSI WILL TRY TO MAKE IT LEGAL.

Hillary blasts Obama over 'ideas' remark

A US PRESIDENT NAME HUSSEIN BARACK OBAMA.
