I have to comment on the message posted below from an address of "another dummycrat": "I wouldn't trust Romney to run my hardware store!" (Sent Saturday, January 19, 2008 1:55 PM). What kind of comment is this? Having interacted in the private equity markets for years (and as a repeat business owner myself), it is widely accepted that Romney knows business and economics better than any of the other candidates -- the proof is in his results -- he has one of the best long-term track records in the private equity industry and was one of the pioneers of the industry with Bain Capital. Now, I've never tried to run a business as insignificant as a hardware store, but I am sure the same principles of business and economics apply. How can you make such a foolish comment?

I have to laugh at the assumption that Mormons are voting him into office - as stated, only 7% of NV is Mormon. And what about the other 75% of the people who voted this morning? I think that what makes the difference here in the West is that while the majority of us aren't Mormon, we all know someone who is. And, we know that Romney's being Mormon is a non-issue.

Followinh the poll assumptions we have seen so far...

Romney has about 55% of the vote.
25% of caucus voters are LDS
Nearly 100% of LDS voters went with Romney

If you take out the 25% from LDS voters, that means non-LDS (75% of the voters) contribute the other 30%. If you do the math (30% / 75%)...

40% of non-LDS voters went with Romney.

Media pundits are way overstating the LDS influence on the Nevada results. It's not his religion that's resonating; it's his message.

Your right we shouldn't be voting for people based on religion. However if you are mormon and you vote against Mitt, you will be in the fraction of 1% of mormons of voting age that don't. You can't argue that for THE MOST PART mormons will be voting in lockstep for Romney because they are told to. Same with evangelicals for Huckabee. Religion does not teach people to think independently (I am sure were he here Galileo would confirm this for us).

That is the reality of the situation. I know everyone reading this (if the christian screener lets it through) is thinking of a well crafted reply but the statistics in the end will show that Mormons overwhelmingly voted for Romney (of the mormons that voted) and evangelicals overwhelmingly voted for Huckabee.

Of course they are Christians Jan. They have a long and storied history of hate, bigotry and intolerance. When did women, African Americans (or any other minority for that matter) get a chance to even cast a vote in this "Christian" country of ours?

I am a Black Christian that is voting for Romney for two basic reasons. 1) He is the most qualified to turn the country around economically, and it demonstrated in his track record and in having the most organized campaign of any candidate. How can we trust the others to run the country if their campaign organization are lacking.
2) I watched the "Blacks in the Scriptures" DVD by two Black Mormons that gives the real Mormon doctrine regarding Blacks. Quite impressive and it showed me that Mormons may have had a bad past, but the doctrine is not racist, just misunderstood.

Father, Son, Holy Ghost? Sounds like three individuals to me. But that is not the point. The word "Cult" is defined differently in many dictionaries. The fact is that mormons call themselves christian because that's what they are striving to do. To do what Jesus would do. They may think of the trinity differently from you Shawn, but that doesn't mean they are not christian. If being Christian is all about sharing the same beliefs then everyone else who calls themselves christian. Then they aren't christian in that instance. Mormons do very well at setting a good example that would be pleasing to Jesus if he were here. They strive to keep his commandments and to follow his example. That is the important thing. Being christian is a way of life rather then a way of belief.
