That makes me wwonder why Romney pulled out of SC so soon. I think he could have taken some votes from McCain; maybe that would have helped Huckabee.

Thompson is clearly the spoiler now (probably on purpose). That makes him look pretty bad. And to think his supporters mostly hate McCain. The joke's on them; theyve actually helped McCain get the nomination.

I would have to definitely have to agree with everyone. From the last debate Fred attacked Huckabee tremendously and only Huckabee. His whole campaign in SC was anti-Huckabee. Not true at all. Most of us Thompson supporters REALLY hate Huckabee, because he's a total fake and a total liberal.

He screams about being a conservative, when he's nothing of the sort, from union endorsements to NEA endorsements to raising taxes in Arkansas to talking about a "living" constitution to not having a damn clue about foreign policy, which Fred has schooled him in time and time again.

I'm not a big fan of McCain either, but he sure beats the heck out of Huckabee. If Huckabee was the nominee I would not vote Republican for the first time in my life. I'm glad that apparently I don't have to make that choice now. The Huckacrook is done.

Oh, and that's another thing; Huckabee's speech was unbelievable. He talked about "class" when HIS campaign was the dirtiest campaign of all. Fred laid out his record and he couldn't respond so he made personal jokes and attacks on Fred, and HIS campaign (or surrogates of it) made the push polls in South Carolina. And now the whining continues. What a hypocrite.

Huckabee is just a boderline liberal who hides behind and wears his religion on his sleeve, kisses a lot of babies and tells corny jokes. While Thompson on the other hand is a no nonsense, staight up kind of guy who despises pandering to the media and partaking in the "plastic" element in politics, therefore it makes him come off in the media/personality wise unappealing to some. Anyone can see that if you REALLY look and listen and not fill your head with what the media is trying to push in your brain 24 hours a day.

Romney pulled out of SC because he is smart. This race is not decided by polls, it is decided by the number of delegates. By focusing on Nevada he pulled out a huge win (the biggest win of any of the other state contests) and in the process put 17 more delegates in his Pocket.

Romney now goes into Florida with 59 delegates already behind him, that is 20 more than McCain. Just because you don't understand what Romney is doing, don't think for a minute that man does not know what he is doing. I have examined Mitts record, I fact I have examined all the candidates records in exausting detail. I have become quite the political Junky over the last year or so. I am nothing but impressed with Mitts record. I have also have many good friends and co-workers living in MA. And even the very liberal ones have to admit that he was a very good governer. He balanced a budget that was running on a 3 billion dollar budget. He instituted health care reform that added 300,000 people to the insurance program with out raising taxes and actually cut the average cost of healthcare for most families by 50%. He lived up to his campaign promises but still stuck by his conservative principles. The guy is amazing.

Whereas the McCain camp and the Main Stream Media are going to spin his slight win over Huckabee as some gigantic feat, I think it is imperative that we examine the resulting numbers and percentages thereof. As of this writing, the SC State Election Commission did not have results from Horry and Florence Counties; two pretty large counties here in SC. Should the percentages remain as they are now, some observations are in order, when comparing this primary to the much-touted 2000 primary.

In 2000 the two top candidates were George Bush, who received 53% of the votes and John McCain, who received 42% of the vote. Alan Keyes came in third place with 5% of the vote, while Gary Bauer, Steve Forbes and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) rounded up the field with less than one percent total.

At 33% in the 2008 primary, McCain lost a lot of ground (15%) in the eight years since the 2000 SC GOP Presidential Primary. Please note that 67% of the people of SC rejected McCain in 2008, while 58% rejected him in 2000. Hence his rejection rate in SC has increased by almost 10%. Please keep this in mind because the Main Stream Media and Lindsey Graham will try to use McCain’s slim victory to say that “illegal immigration” is no longer an issue in the US. We all know that in SC, the illegal alien invasion is one of the top two concerns of our citizens. We must not forget that!

We will never know for sure whether or not Fred Thompson was purposely placed in this campaign to help his friend and former US Senate colleague, John McCain. After all, Fred was one of only two senators that endorsed McCain in 2000. Fred never really attacked McCain on any of the debates, but at the Myrtle Beach debate, like a mad pit bull, Fred did attack Mike Huckabee. Huckabee held the high ground (perhaps too high for his own good) and chose not to reciprocate. Consequently, we do know that Thompson took votes away mostly from Huckabee but also from Romney. I hate to think that Thompson’s race is just a calculation to help McCain, but we will soon see, when Thompson drops out, whom will Fred endorse. I have heard this from too many sources very close to his campaign to not give it credibility. But only time will tell.

A week ago, polls around the nation had Huckabee trailing McCain in SC by as much as 13 percentage points. In the past week, Huckabee started to surge and closed the gap to only 3%. Time ran out. Had Thompson not been in the race, Huckabee would have won South Carolina.

As you know South Carolina lost half of its delegates as a consequence for moving the primary to an earlier date. South Carolina only has 24 delegates. McCain received 19 of these and Huckabee received 5. It is not clear how the 24 delegates were apportioned, but traditionally in SC a candidate gets a few delegates for each Congressional District win and a larger amount for the state winner. Huckabee won the 3rd, 4th and 5th Congressional District and 5 delegates were awarded to him.

Here in SC we now must keep our focus on defeating Lindsey Graham. Word has it that other candidates will be entering the race. Don’t be discouraged by this, as in this primary the winner must get 50% + 1 vote to win the nomination. We don’t think Lindsey has enough votes to win the primary outright and more than likely will have a runoff. Remember that thanks to his campaign consultant, Graham had no opposition in the republican primary that led to his nomination. So if all the GOP senatorial candidates work together to defeat Lindsey and not attack one another (like Thompson did to Huckabee), South Carolinians can retire Lindsey and send him back to Central, SC in the runoff. After all, after being booed at the SC GOP state convention, Lindsey stated that he would be just as happy practicing law in Central, SC.

People truely amaze me in not supporting Huckabee. We finally have a candidate in Huckabee that will dismantle the IRS, taking the chains off us and our productivity. Most of us can't go without our toys and gadgets though and will choose to pay the new tax. The IMPORTANT word there is "CHOOSE". We would have a choice. Under the current IRS, we have NO CHOICE whatsoever. Which program sounds American? Which is involuntary slavery and which is FREEDOM to chose?

Don't be fooled by getting a small check back after filing! It's just another old political trick to take thousands from you all year and then give you the "chump change" back so you don't feel like you were raped.

Can anyone honestly believe that our great Founders of this country did not have the foresight that America would have to generate revenue to run the government? The IRS was intentionally NOT INCLUDED in the Constitution, that so detailed government's role and duty to the People, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT CONFORM TO THE IDEAS OF INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, AND OTHER RIGHTS!

To the person who said our economy NEEDS Romney, try taking a look at his record in Massachusetts. I lived there while he governor and he was awful. Not only did he spend the entire LAST year of his time in office campaigning for president instead of taking care of the state, he regularly tried to usurp the power of the Mayor, wrecked the healthcare system and "balanced" the budget before leaving by basically yanking money from every small fund he could to make it look even. It was a complete wreck when Deval took over. Take a look at some of the links here, some of them are very old to residents of new england but for those of you who aren't take a look.
Living in Massachusetts I have to share with you some stuff on Mitt, also commonly referred to as 'the twit' here in Mass. Now, he's a good speaker, he's well prepared, and lately he's pro-life (although also pro-death penalty?) which sits well with conservatives, but he is not a good candidate to run our country. Talk to some people who live within the state before promising out your vote. He's a flip flopper and seems to be becoming more and more conservative because of the election. If your conservative fine, but be conservative don't change your views for the sake of the polls, do you want that person running our country?

Huck cried that it's Fred's fault that people do not want Huckabee. Hucksters pronounce that other candidates should quit so that Huck can win.

Huck can quit for those very reasons and do America the great favor by performing his own disappearance.

Mistakes: touting the conservative agenda when the election two yrs ago should have proven that bragging about being a conservative hurt more than it helped...allowing religion to be a part of the campaign;all Rep. candidates would have been much better off slamming the door on that as soon as it became a topic of conversation...labeling someone a liberal when that label was completely worn out two years ago...A gross failure to appeal to independent Democrats early in this campaign...an overuse of scare tactics (it worked for Dubya, but won't work this time)...the failure of our elected officials to see how our economy would be effected by spending money quicker than we could print it...Blatant disregard by Dubya and Cheney for Americans (children through senior aged)...borrowing billions of dollars from foreign countries to finance the war...
When the Democrats swarm their way into both houses and take over the White House, conservatives in both parties are going to wonder how they got blindsided. If they were really concerned about our country they should have easily seen it on the Republican horizon.

Mike Huckabee is ridiculous..... I can't believe how brainwashed the evangelicals are over this Baptist Preacher.... It is truely scary!!! Mike Huckabee is no conservative....he is more liberal than any of the candidates. Unfortunately, he and McCain have put on false fronts and tried to paint themselves as Reagan Republicans which is a joke. It is sad how the field of current candidates of the Republican Party is so weak and changes their platforms and platitudes with each poll. Example look at the speeches of Huckabee and McCain in Iowa and NH and then look how they quickly converted themselves into Conservative wannabees from their speeches in SC.

These are just typical lair politicians that change with the wind. I feel that we are looking at the true demise of the USA and the winds of change are now blowing in our face and not our backs. Immigration, tax policy, social security, pro-growth business attitudes...these are all lacking from the current Republican candidates. I would say the closest is Thompson to true Reagan conservatism unfortunately, the Republicans seem not to like what he has to say.

I do believe that the chances for a Democrat in the White House in 2009 is becoming more of a reality and with that goes the last great chance that the Republican Party will have to prove to the nation that "true" Conservative values can make our nation a better place. Because the Democ"rats" will control the WH, Congress, and then appoint liberal judges and then defacto control the Supreme Court. With that accomplished look out because here comes far left loony Communist style socialism. Political correctness run a muck and social policies that will destroy free enterprise and run the USA into a deep recession....LOOK OUT because the writing is on the wall.

As Pat Buchannan is fond of saying the death of the west is at our doorstep, the barbarians have broken down the door and are dictating the terms of our surrender. Heaven help the USA and I pray that we can save ourselves from our self because we have no one to blame but us.... No nation in the world can defeat the USA; the USA will be defeated by itself.

I recieved one of your push-poll calls
trashing Thompson and McCain in Michigan last week.
You did the same again in SC this week.
After Thompson gutted the Huckster in the last debate, your candidate's response was; "maybe old Fred needs some Metamucil". Wow that was inciteful,
huh? Then he proceeded to announce a change of heart about a Federal ban on smoking because Thompson nailed him to the wall on it. Your canidate is
clueless in regard to the Constitution, foreign policy, and Conservatism and deserves to be beaten
out of every state primary. He is not a conservative and is not conducting a campaign in the "Christian" manner he projects from the pulpit. He is a performer and nothing more. Obvious since his Leno appearance, sitting in with the band, positively Clintonesque.
His ads using
Christian buzz words and symbols offends me greatly.
I am a conservative, evangelical Christian man who
will not watch his Brothers and sisters be duped by another slick talker from Arkansas. It is a very good thing he won't win the nomination because,
when the MSM opens the files they are holding back on the Huckster you will all be ashamed.

A. Brocco is completely wrong about the election
2 yrs ago. The Democrats won because they ran conservative candidates, some even pro life.
The Republican incumbents lost because they were not following the conservative path of limited government. Thompson is right, when we follow the Conservative path Republicans win and the country wins.

News flash for ya: the "conservative" policies of the last 7 years have run the country into the recession that the country is in RIGHT NOW! For-profit health-care is but one example of failed conservative policy. Unregulated SEC and banking is another.

Also, the guy who thinks Fred Thompson is "strong on defense". He's an ACTOR fer cryin' out loud!

Watching the vote-against-their-own-interests conservatives on this message board cracks me up - squabbling over which of the Republican candidates will screw them (and the rest of us living in reality) the most!

Hmmm, freedom of Choice regarding taxation? You act like the fair tax will only have sales tax on accesories and toys. Sorry, but groceries, gas, clothes, and other necessities will also be taxed. So the wealthy will have to pay a little more for their toys and necessities. Meanwhile, the poor, who wouldn't be buying toys anyway, will be taxed to high heaven for their basic needs....because they CHOOSE to eat, have a roof over their heads, be able to drive to work, clothe their children, etc. Yep, what a choice.

I do say NO to dirty, sneaky politics. Such as Huck's barely masked bigotted comments, his constant not-so-subtle jabs, and his OBVIOUS push polling. He's the least ethical of the bunch. YOU should take a closer look. Your angelic candidate isn't as pure as he wants you to think.
