From NBC/NJ’s Aswini AnurajanATLANTA -- Within the walls of a church hallowed by the voice of one of America's great leaders, Obama called for a "unity" of voices to bring about change and overcome a "deficit of empathy" in America.

A real prize! Congratulations!

He is building quite an impressive list of Senatorial endorsements, too. John Kerry, Claire McCaskill, Pat Leahy, Kent Conrad, etc. And many governors too like Tim Kaine of Virginia and Janet Napolitano of Arizona.

Obama won more delegates yesterday than did Hillary. With this system they will both be competitive past Feb. 5. This will go on, and as it does, it will become more apparent to the Democratic voters and to the Party that we need a change from the Clintons. My husband predicts that very soon Bill will implode - he'll either do or say something really, really over-the-top.

Barack Obama is a once-in-a-generation chance for the Democratic Party. Let's not lose this opportunity to nominate this gifted man.

Obama speaks at King's church

Beautiful, soaring, and moving speech.

But Obama looks exhausted. That number is less than the number of people who live in a city block in any major American city.

This is the voting pattern. Hillary never wins by much and Obama always continues to show appeal to voters across all communities.

Hillary also won by very little in NH. They both got the same number of delegates: 9 each.

OBAMA was a formidable vote-getter in NV. There are 17 counties in NV and Obama won in 11 of them. In 7 of the 11 counties that Obama won, he won more than 50% of the NV county vote.

OBAMA demonstrated voting support all over the state of NV. THAT IS WHY OBAMA WON MORE DEM NV delegates.

I CONGRATULATE OBAMA ON HIS DELEGATE VICTORY IN 11 NEVADA COUNTIES AND HIS WINNING DELEGATE COUNT IN NV.

Thank you NV counties for supporting this very special guy.
Obama speaks at King's church

While I am a young person in the U.S., and have been able to vote in the past,I have not for one simple reason--I didn't feel strongly enough about the vote. No one had reached out & touched me enough for me to want to make a decision like that, the lesser of 2 evils. This year, the first time I watched & really listened to Obama, I knew that this was someone I could respect, understand, and know he would understand out concerns. He is eloquent, to the point, & best of all, the doesn't throw temper tantrums when he loses. He doesn't attack his opponents for the sake of drawing attention away from the fact that it some instances, he isn't the best. His speech was touching.
Thank you Mama for raising your son to be the person he is, for once I want to be involved, have a voice, because Obama makes me feel like there is hope--hope that someone still has some common sense left, and doesn't take the easy way out of controversial issues.

Obama speaks at King's church

                                 Amen, Brother Barack

Obama speaks at King's church

does anyone know where we can see the whole speech? As the candidates head to South Carolina, they will find that the African American voters here in SC are very upset with Clinton. If Obama does not win, I for one will cross over in the general election and vote for the Republican candidate if indeed it is McCain or Huckabee.
Others here in SC feel the same way as I do. She will do and say anything to get elected. African Americans are not being respected by the Clinton Campaign. Listen to them carefully. They talk in coded language about Obama's campaign, Much like old line southerners do. Blacks who are supporting her cant even begin to envision something more meaningful for themselves. They are in Shock. They cant even begin to relate to someone like Obama. The preachers are a joke! This thing of going to the church and preachers played out long ago. We laugh about that down here. Politicians who do that are far out of touch. It is a sterotype. They need to stop it. The Clintons want to keep African Americans in a role that has long since passed. The struggle for equal and civil rights has produced a different breed of African Americans. They are no longer seeking a hand-out from people like the Clintons. Just because he tries to project his voice in the same oratory style as MLK does NOT make him a a mythical hero or a political pioneer! MLK fought against huge opposition and terrible racism and strife, not to mention all the beatings, tear gas, jail time,etc.,etc.,...how can you even compare the two??? Where is the hard fought struggle in Obama's silverspoon upbringing? You people are either ignorant, delusional or BOTH. How you can you even consider putting our country in the hands of a NOVICE that nobody had even heard of until last year? What about his SWORN promise to serve out his entire first term in the Senate before considering a run for President? That promise went out the window in his first year of office!! A good speech will NOT save our great nation from more empty promises from a "likeable and nice guy"....HILLARY 2008!!!

Obama speaks at King's church

The first link is the entire 45 min speech
http://www.c-span.org/videoarchives.asp?CatCodePairs=,&ArchiveDays=100

Obama speaks at King's church

Ok - it won't let me pate the link apparently. But after four years of George H.W. Bush as president, followed by eight years of Bill Cinton, followed by eight years of George Bush, most Americans would prefer a fresh face in the White House, someone who can move away from the cycle of partisan warfare that these two families have furthered.

That person, we believe, is Barack Obama.

http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20080120/NEWS/801200303
-----------------------------------
Gainesville Sun endorses Barack Obama (FL)

Come November this is the best choice Americans could make in deciding who will lead the nation: John McCain or Barack Obama

http://www.gainesvillesun.com/article/20080120/OPINION01/801200308/1017
---------------------------------

A Times Editorial (St Petersburg, FL)-
Published January 20, 2008-

No wonder many voters are torn, wishing they didn't have to choose one over the other. It is a close call, but as much as we admire Hillary Clinton, we recommend Barack Obama for president in this primary vote. (John Edwards is still actively campaigning.)

http://www.sptimes.com/2008/01/20/Opinion/Obama_for_Democrats.shtml
---------------------------

WASHINGTON -- Ex-Sen. Jean Carnahan, D-Mo., will endorse Sen. Barack Obama, the Post-Dispatch has learned.

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/politics/story/7E21094589C268BE862573D60065E99B?OpenDocument

ST. LOUIS , MO -- Former Senator Jean Carnahan joined current Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill and announced her endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President, citing his ability to bring people of all different political beliefs and backgrounds together to achieve real change.

---------------------------------------

FLORIDA PRIMARY: Democrats: Obama

Palm Beach Post Endorsement

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Barack Obama has set the tone for the presidential campaign, which is why The Post endorses him in the Florida Democratic primary.

One irony is that Sen. Obama has influenced all his major challengers despite his youth (46) and the fact that he was little-known nationally until his riveting address at the 2004 national convention. Another irony is that Sen. Obama is downplaying the state primary because of a fight between the national and state Democratic parties. But all the candidates are on the Jan. 29 ballot, and we hope that voters ignore the sideshows and turn out.

Why vote for Sen. Obama? Because his opponents, Democratic and Republican, now tout the "hope" and "change" on which Sen. Obama has campaigned from the start. No candidate has more directly and correctly addressed the unease that pervades the country after seven years of a terrible presidency.

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/opinion/content/opinion/epaper/2008/01/20/a2e_obama_endorse_0120.html

Obama speaks at King's church

The speech is on cspan's campaign network.

http://www.campaignnetwork.org/

Obama speaks at King's church

HTM - what Bush speeches are you talking about? The walls of the city were too steep for any one person to climb; too strong to be taken down with brute force. And so they sat for days, unable to pass on through.

"But God had a plan for his people. He told them to stand together and march together around the city, and on the seventh day he told them that when they heard the sound of the ram’s horn, they should speak with one voice. And at the chosen hour, when the horn sounded and a chorus of voices cried out together, the mighty walls of Jericho came tumbling down.

"There are many lessons to take from this passage, just as there are many lessons to take from this day, just as there are many memories that fill the space of this church. As I was thinking about which ones we need to remember at this hour, my mind went back to the very beginning of the modern Civil Rights Era.

"Because before Memphis and the mountaintop; before the bridge in Selma and the march on Washington; before Birmingham and the beatings; the fire hoses and the loss of those four little girls; before there was King the icon and his magnificent dream, there was King the young preacher and a people who found themselves suffering under the yolk of oppression.

"And on the eve of the bus boycotts in Montgomery, at a time when many were still doubtful about the possibilities of change, a time when those in the black community mistrusted themselves, and at times mistrusted each other, King inspired with words not of anger, but of an urgency that still speaks to us today:

"Unity is the great need of the hour" is what King said. Unity is how we shall overcome...."

Then of Barack Obama continues his great oration on America's "moral deficit" and what we togeher can and must do to overcme. . . .

Obama speaks at King's church

"Steve Rothman: Why I'm Supporting Barack Obama"
...Obama has the natural disposition and outstanding character that always lead him to tell the truth, with the skill and grace of a great national leader. Wow, the nerve!!!!! Hillary on her own, really has not accomplished anymore than Obama, check the record, visiting other countries as first lady does not count as an accomplishment, or else Laura and Barbara Bush should be candidates. Clintons have gotten in a lot of fights with people and have alot of political baggage that comes along with their experience - scandals, impeachment, lying, adversity with those who do not agree with them. Time for a clean slate, a fresh face and a different name. Barack is incredibly talented and intelligent, he will surround himself with good smart people, not people he owes political favors from 35 years of experience. The Clintons and their operatives are really looking bad trying to beat up on this guy, not much mud is sticking to him, but it sure sticks to them when they try to throw it.

Obama speaks at King's church

The Ignorants that many of you are displaying is frighten....But you know the truth will always prevail...

The Clinton are not descent people....And there is not much dignity in many of their supporters either....

While you absorb in your glory....Please be aware that you may look up, and there will be no democrat as president...

Do you think you can easily repair relations after all the damage you have caused....It won't be forgotten....It won't be forgotten....

You and your supporters will bring this party down....And many of us will chose Bloomberg if Hillary is nominated....That's if he decides to run.... According to the NYT Edwards had been invited to speak at the Zion Baptist Church today but for some strange reason both the Clinton & Obama campaigns complained because they weren't going to be there. Both Clinton & Obama spoke at churches today so why were they complaining about Edwards doing the same thing? The whole thing is very strange. I hope we get some additional reporting on this.

"John Edwards had been scheduled to speak this afternoon at the Zion Baptist Church here. But just before the service was set to begin, the Edwards campaign quietly put out word to reporters that he would not be speaking after all.
The reason? The campaigns for Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama were upset.
“There was some angst and concern from other campaigns that he was participating and they were not,” said Mark Kornblau, a spokesman for Mr. Edwards. “So in order to avoid politicizing Dr. King’s life and legacy, we thought it best to just participate in the ceremony today and save the remarks for tomorrow.” (Mr. Edwards is scheduled to address the NAACP’s King Day in Columbia on Monday"

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/20/edwardschurch/

Obama speaks at King's church

For every absurd, obscene anti-Obama comment in this thread, I will donate to the Senator's campaign. Join me in opposing the nonsense at: http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/JulianneShelby

Obama speaks at King's church

OBAMA still has to get my vote-and I don't think Oprah has ANY TALENT.

Obama speaks at King's church

Obama is the only chance for the Dems to take back the White House. No extra marital affairs, and showing honesty in his campaign, Obama is truly hope from God. The Clintons are wolves in sheep clothing, with more skeletons than any graveyard. It's embarassing to see the pit bull Bill Clinton come to town before his wife to black organizations to act as if he's a black president. Mercer Island, Washington

This Obama stuff is nothing but religious baloney. We are not electing a president out of the entanglements of the past, race or religion. Change has come to us not from the past icons or religious views. Change has come to us by the acknowledgment of what we now desire and it's not directed by some kind of savior type man! I am deeply grateful for all those who have made a difference but today we are not about the past. It seems to me Obama just wants the fame and light of being like his past successors and he is using all of them to forge a way of presidency, by his example of being them. YUK!!!

Every day we have situations to deal with and I don't think it is about racism in this country given the fact the people who voted for him in Iowa were not all black. So we have come along way and that is the part that is exciting to me!! As I see it Obama has two faces, he ither identifies with a hero or victim. This is a hidden anger and conflict within him that causes the emotions of the Americans to go up and down. Not good!

You know what worries me? Obama seemingly has given drugs up but the emotional conflicts of what caused him to take drugs is still there. It's a mentality of victim and co-dependancy. I have watched him and he seems to have an addiction to be a type of savior for all of us. This is a scam and he uses whatever he can to poof his self up there. Have you noticed he is addicted to words of others? He is close to none of the heroes of our age past, future or present and all the while he acts like they were his best friends. Sheech!!! He doesn't have a son or daughter fighting for this war and he is not my hero!

You know the more Obama gets out there the less he is going to be liked. I hardly think anyone, albeit white, purple or black is going to elect this man. I had thought if he had more experience I would vote for him in another election. Not now! I am not buying into his warm cozy invitations in order to give him the identity he needs to be a savior type man that unites America. Who says we are not united?

This is kind of sad what this man is projecting on all of us. We are a people, Americans to be exact. Race does not define us. Our whole country has been about change from the beginning and I don't know when we have not all wanted change, including those before us and behind us.

Obama brings to you all a blocked vision and collective archetypes that cannot deliver anyone because the force of emotion that he uses is based on similar fashions/feelings that are false hopes and warm and cozy promises.

I would think you all would decide to vote for a person that has the vision, and ability to think beyond the collective archetypes. It would be nice to have a president that can chart new courses of emotion and feelings without having the need of the past to define the future!!! Then shall we all feed upon the banquet of our "differing thoughts" rather then the cattle call of the collective cozy similarities and icons.

A.W.

Obama speaks at King's church

Amber what a lie that her salary is 70K. He was admired by most Americans and it was he who felt that it was too much for a President to serve such long terms. To say that a Hillary Rodam Clinton is not capable of leading this nation because of her name is a silly arguement.

This is an arguement that is used by someone who simply doesn't want you to scrutinize a weak and frankly lacking record of public service. This is an argument of a person who has a questionable history and questionable personal ties to certain entities they may be beholding to.

Senator Barack Obama may point the finger at Hillary Clinton but when he doesn he has three or four pointing right back at him. Fingers that lead one to ask questions about just how poor his mother was really and how he landed in a private school in Hawaii that in today's dollars cost $16,000 per year? To me people in deep poverty can't afford these schools and when we were on food stamps this wasn't a consideration.

Of course today we accept that Obama is Christian, but this steadfast refusal to discuss that he converted from Islam to Christianity is disturbing to some individuals. Who cares if he was Muslim, what is disturbing is this need to hide parts of his past like this. For some they say well he is Christian, but to me it is disturbing he hides this part in deep shame.

There are other aspects. Barack Obama has just "shown up" on the scene and for whatever reason these are his credentials. It doesn't matter what his life has or has not been, what he did in his life or the influences he set, he thinks and believes ALL black Americans should follow him like sheep.

To me he is playing every black American as if they are ignorant and foolish. He has no plans, just a nicely modulated voice and thats great, but with the position the countries in we need a meat and potatoes leader who can make a meal and put it on the table not just stand around and tell you that it smells really delicious.

And this is who Barack Obama is the guy who stands around telling you dinner smells good while it is being made and put on the table. He's just not able to contribute substantively at this point in time.

Obama speaks at King's church

BARACK ANSWERS BILL:

Obama needs to answer Pres. Clinton's inaccurate and misleading attacks, but there is NO WAY Obama can win against the political genius of the former President. The way for Obama to succeed is to SHOW his considerable experience doing civil rights work and community organizing in a way that middle America can sink its teeth into. If Obama will take answer and question sessions as Bill did during his '92 campaign, giving real answers to real bread and butter concerns, he'll fare much better than the Clintons. He should also point out that Hillary isn't in charge of her own candidacy, Bill is. The only reason she's the "first viable woman candidate" is because of Bill's enormous popularity. Voters need to be reminded that Hillary is NOT Bill, and that the only person who can unite the Republican party is Hillary! She'll bring out GOP voters IN DROVES in November, and if Dems really want to win back the White House, they'd be wise to keep this in mind. I think in some ways, Barack is too in love with the historical nature of his candidacy. He has writers, as do all candidates, who help make suggestions and edit. But essentially Obama's speeches are his own work.

No one has attempted to compare Obama with Dr. King, except the Clinton spin machine that will lie, cheat, destroy and do anything else to win. Novice? Tell me what Hillary Clinton has done. She was a law clerkj for a REPUBLICAN congressman, a Goldwater supporter, then the wife of a governor and a president without even secirity clearance. She may have had an education of sort, and she might have influenced Bill in some ways, buut she had RESPONSIBLITY for Nothing until she rode her husband's name to a seat in the Senate. Obama worked in the streets of Chicago, gaining some real life experience, then sat in the Illinois legislature. He currently is a US Senator on the Foreign Affairs Committee and other places where he has access to information.

A "privileged" life? Cathy obvious knows nothing. He was born into poverty. HIs father ran awau before he was two years old. He had only his mother for support and she worked in various jobs. He got into Harvard on his intelligence and scholarship, became head of the law review, a singular honor. Privileged? Hardly. He wasn't even middle-class. Hillary grew up in a comfortbale home of upper class status. She had the privilege if anyone did. BUt Clinton supporters like Cathy don;t want the facts. They merely like to attack, just like the Clintons.

Obama speaks at King's church

So Hillary voted for the war yet she is against it. She says the President should hold it's staff accountable but she lets Bob Johnson and Bill Clinton go wild with "her" campaign and turn it into a racial war that she can not win. An lastly why is the Bill Clinton giving more speeches than her if she is suppose to be the first female President? Step up Hillary and earn my vote if you want it. Do not use men to fight your battles while you sit back and cry. OK black voters there is a familiar trend here of bad decisions and staff gone wild.(We've seen this with Bush) So far it's refreshing to see Obama stay above the 2000 & 2004 nonsense and focus on a brighter future for me and my family.

Obama speaks at King's church

even though dems run the nea they still can't get their math right...obama won the most delegates in nevada because dems decided to make new citizens votes worth more than everyone else's one man one vote...sux for anyone not on the "right" voter list

Obama speaks at King's church

If Obama is a great speaker go give seminars. I guess I did not watch the right part because I did not cry or see my next president.

Obama speaks at King's church

Regarding Obama's speeches, he is a writer himself so whether or not he has speechwriters, I'm sure he more than contributes to the content and no one is his equal on delivery. He has that rare ability to connect and draw you in. I'm sure Hillary can afford the best writers as well so why the difference? Obama has talent and charisma and she doesn't. Simple as that.

Unfortunately what Obama doesn't have is a spouse who is a former president. The press gives attention and undue weight to every whiny, complaining, and misleading thing he says. She is not succeeding on her own merit if she is dependent on Bill to take her opponents down.

Even more frightening is the perception by the country of this developing into a co-presidency. The only thing that would unite Republicans and Independents more is the prospect of taking down not only Hillary but getting another shot at Bill as well. If he continues to inject himself into her campaign this aggressively there is going to be a backlash. Maybe too late for Obama to gain the nomination but certainly not too late to derail a Democratic victory in the fall.

Obama speaks at King's church

It is immaterial to many of us whether it is Barack or Hillary or Edwards. The question for the Dems is whether the candidates who do not get the nom will really do everything nec to defeat the Neocons Romney and Rudy if they are the Repub candidates.
