I hope Michele does make more of these appearances. I also hope that the senators and high ranking dems that have endorsed Obama start to speak out on his behalf. It must be nice to have such a influential democrat to sling your mud for you as Hillary has. Personally it makes me sick the way that the Clintons build themselves up by tearing another person, and another democrat down. I'll take Barack's 15 years of experience, including 10 as an elected official, working to fight for the less fortunate over Hillary's supposed 35 years of experience doing who knows what. Yes, she had some important duties while Bill was in the White House, but I'd really like to see all this other experience that she claims she has. Was it while Bill was governor? What about before that? It is time to change the way our politics work and electing an old guard emmber is not the way to do that.

This mean-spirited exchange between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Monday night's CNN debate provides two excellent examples of the rhetorical device of false comparison. Compare my record on (insert something positive you have done) with (insert something negative about your opponent.) Even if the underlying facts are more or less accurate, it is still a dishonest form of argument because it contrasts your best points with your opponent's worst ones.

The Facts
Hillary Clinton was a member of the WalMart Board of Directors from 1986 to 1992, while her husband was governor of Arkansas and she was a member of the Rose Law firm. She subsequently distanced herself from the Arkansas-based company, and has criticized its labor practices. She returned a $5000 campaign donation from Wal-Mart in 2005.

During the same period, Barack Obama worked as a community organizer in Chicago, attended Harvard Law School, and moved back to Chicago. In 1993, he got a job as an associate attorney with a small Chicago law firm, Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. It was during this period that he first became involved with a real estate developer named Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who has subsequently been indicted with fraud, extortion, and money laundering and will go on trial on February 25. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Obama received more than $168,000 in campaign contributions from Rezko and his associates since 1995.

Obama has denied doing any legal work directly for Rezko or his companies. During Monday night's debate, he said that he had done "about five hours worth of work" on a joint real estate development project involving Rezko and a Chicago church group. Obama's former supervisor at the law firm, William Miceli, said that the firm represented a non-profit group called the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation which redeveloped a run-down property on Chicago's South Side jointly with Rezko. He described Clinton's assertion that Obama represented Rezko in a slum landlord business as "categorically untrue."

"He was a very junior lawyer at the time, who was given responsibility for basic due diligence, document review," said Miceli, adding that Obama did what he was told to do. According to Miceli, this was the only instance in which Obama worked on a Rezko-related project during his time with the law firm.

The Pinocchio Test

The story of Obama's relations with Rezko remains murky. Obama has been embarrassed by revelations that he bought a house alongside a lot purchased by Rezko, paying $300,000 less than the asking price. But an intensive investigation by Chicago newspapers has failed so far to turn up evidence that he represented Rezko in a "slum landlord business" in the derogatory manner described by Clinton. What has been established is that he did some due diligence legal work for a joint venture between Rezko and a Chicago non-profit. Two Pinocchios for Clinton.

WASHINGTON: The military has warned soldiers not to use official computers to forward a chain email that falsely accuses Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of being a Muslim who attended a radical Muslim school, saying distribution of the information is a violation of Army regulations and constitutes unlawful political activity.

The memorandum, dated Thursday, came after the discredited claims about Obama's background were sent from an Army computer to what appear to be thousands of Army personnel worldwide.

"Currently there is a Chain Email floating around with the Subject line: 'Who is Barack Obama,' " states the official warning, which was sent to all personnel who work for the Army Medical Command, based in Fort Sam Houston, Tex. "Like virtually all chain emails this one is false."

Further, it adds, distributing the e-mail using military computers is a violation of several Army regulations that state that government communications equipment must be used only for official purposes and that their misuse could be punished under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Moreover, Army personnel were told that the political nature of the e-mail constitutes a violation of separate regulations that explicitly bar the military from engaging in any political activities while on duty, saying "the subject email falls under the realm of prohibited political activity."

One of the relevant regulations states that uniformed or civilian Defense Department employees cannot, among other things, "knowingly solicit or discourage the political activity of any person who has business with DoD; engage in political activity while on duty; and engage in political activity while in any Federal workplace."

A copy of the reprimand, which came from information technology managers at the Army Medical Command, was obtained by the Globe. The author of the message, reached by the Globe today, confirmed its content.

"In this emotion-charged election year expect to see an overabundance of similar chain emails from friends and foes alike in both your personal and government email inboxes," it concludes. "Just keep in mind that the government systems are for official use only."

(CNN) – In an attempt to short-circuit false rumors about Barack Obama that have circulated on the Internet, his presidential campaign has released a “letter to the Jewish community" from seven Jewish senators – none of whom have endorsed a presidential candidate – publicly condemning the e-mails.

Sens. Carl Levin, Barbara Boxer, Ben Cardin, Russ Feingold, Frank Lautenberg, Bernie Sanders and Ron Wyden signed the letter, which was sent to reporters Saturday.

"Over the past several weeks, many in the Jewish community have received hateful e-mails that use falsehood and innuendo about Sen. Barack Obama's religion and attack him personally. As Jewish United States senators who have not endorsed a candidate for the Democratic nomination, we condemn these scurrilous attacks,” they say in the letter.

“We find it particularly abhorrent that these attacks arc apparently being sent specifically to the Jewish community. Jews, who have historically been the target of such attacks, should be the first to reject these tactics.”

The campaign sent out a similar letter, signed by community letters representing most of the major Jewish organizations in the United States, earlier this week.

At Monday night’s CNN debate in South Carolina, he turned the tables.

The charge came during a wild exchange during the beginning of the debate in which Clinton and Obama — standing at adjacent podium — interrupted and pointed angrily at each other.

Obama was referring to a passage in a New York Times best-seller by former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw called “Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Recollections on the ‘60s and Today”

Brokaw writes that Clinton “believes that modern conservatives such as Karl Rove are ‘obsessed’ with defeating her.”

“She prefers the godfather of the modern conservative movement, Ronald Reagan,” Brokaw writes on Page 404. “He was, she says, 'a child of the Depression, so he understood it [economic pressures on the working and middle class]. When he had those big tax cuts and they went too far, he oversaw the largest tax increase. He could call the Soviet Union the Evil Empire and then negotiate arms-control agreements. He played the balance and the music beautifully.

Dear Michelle,

You are absolutely right we don't know who Obama is? This has been my major complaint since the campaign for the White House officially started, and, it really has not got any better.

In absolute truth, no political spin, I know What Edward's message is, and I know what Clinton's message is, but I am still confused about Obama's message, and I have been paying attention...

In all honesty, I don't think it is necessary to go to a candidates website, to understand or grasp, his basic message. I know the change and unity part, but beyond the fluffy words, I am sorry to say, I don't know or understand the rest. Obama has failed, at giving a clear definitive description or who he is or what he stands for. I am reluctant to put my trust into the "Shadows" workings, of a would be President. For the exact same reasons as you have so eloquently presented....

We don't know him and we are Leary of Shadowy Politicians.... That is not to say Obama is a bad man, or is purposely going to do things wrong or even out of the Democratic cinch... But my major fear is his inexperience, and very weak record. That some are saying he becomes frustrated about, when he is pushed to answer basic questions about his past. Also, in my personal observations, I have watched all the debates, he seems to lack a real command of the issues... He speaks well, but he often seems to struggle with his words, as if he is having trouble articulating his words... For such an articulate man, it is a pretty good indicator that he is weak on issues, when he can't find his words. We are very observant out here....

It appears to me he has spent a lot of time practicing his speeches, talking about hope and change, but beyond the rhetoric there seems to a rather large "Nothing Burger" at the center. I have been listening to Obama for a while now and he is prone to political gaffs and armature mistakes.

I feel that the upcoming election is too important, and that Obama on "training wheels," is too easy of a target for the notorious Republican Attack Machine. It is with regret that I have to tell you that this is not a good time for largely unknown "shadow" working politicians. Just using your own words...

You see, the armature thing shows up at all levels, in Obama's campaign. Even here at this level... Sorry to be so overt, but this is serious business, and I have to tell you how I feel and see things...Still best of luck to you and Obama.

His responses to Hillary's attacks on this morning's conference call were pretty mild, but he sharpened them in his economic speech today, questioning Clinton's commitment to her policy stands, and apparently offering his own version of the "present" attack in response to Clinton's regret for voting for a bill making it harder to declare personal bankruptcy: "Most of us know that if you don’t want to see a bill pass, there’s a pretty easy option available – you can vote against it."

Here's the full passage, from his prepared text:

In the debate last night, we spent some time talking about the economy. And one of the things I brought up that concerned me was that when Senator Clinton first released her economic stimulus plan, she didn’t think that workers or seniors needed immediate tax relief. She thought it could wait until things got worse. Five days later, the economy didn’t really change, but the politics apparently did, because she changed her plan to look just like mine.

It reminds me of what happened when we started debating the credit card industry’s bankruptcy bill – a bill that would make it much harder for working families to climb out of debt. Believe it or not, Senator Clinton said again last night that even though she voted for the bill, she was glad it didn’t pass. I know you can get away with this in Washington, but most of us know that if you don’t want to see a bill pass, there’s a pretty easy option available – you can vote against it.

And we’ve heard her say the same kind of thing about NAFTA and China trade –agreements that sent millions of American jobs – thousands from this very state – overseas. Because only in Washington could Senator Clinton say that NAFTA led to economic improvement up until she started running for President. Now she says we need a time-out on trade. No one knows when this time-out will end. Maybe after the election.

As a lifelong Democrat, I lost respect for the liar during the Monica Lewinsky sexcapade in the Peoples' House. Talk about experience? And certainly, there was poor judgment on our former President's part to say the least. He’s still a liar today today and so is Hillary—telling people what they want to hear. Please, let’s not bring back the 90s let’s turn the page and move on with a new, inspirational 21st century leader in Barack Obama.

Younger Americans need to know all about this too. As this retired teacher recalls, it was President Bill Clinton who also abandoned the most vulnerable among us: welfare mothers and their children, gays and lesbians, and those earning the lowest incomes who were never ever lifted up by the dot com bubble. He sold out our manufacturing base with Nafta and assisted China in many ways--including militarily that haven't surfaced yet--long before George Bush did. And because Hillary blew the health care initiative so pathetically, millions of Americans still suffer without access to afforadable health care. In fact, her biggest accomplishment in her political career was in 1994 when she single-handedly gave both houses of Congress to the Republicans. Then also consider that Bill Clinton never even asked Congress to ratify the Kyoto Treaty on climate change. In Africa as I recall--contrary to how Hillary remembers it--we stood by and did NOTHING while genocide occurred in Rwanda. And what about Haiti and Somalia?

Hillary Clinton chided Barack Obama recently for stating Reagan led a movement, unlike her husband; yet it was Alan Greenspan who referred to Bill Clinton as "one of our best Republican Presidents". Mark my words, this #1 lying, whiner will be called to task soon—from all sides on all the lies he spreads about Barack Obama! Let Hillary continue to "stand by her man" still as he rants and raves and tears down the Democratic Party further. Go stand in the corner, Bill...shame on you. And Hillary, if you’re such a great candidate who has found her voice, then speak for yourself, and send Bill to the doghouse.
