Why is the color of a person skin a big issue? All you talk about is black, white...Can't you see that the Clintons are determine to do whatever is in their power to win this election at all cost so that they maintain their influence and preserve their interest in Washington in order to satisfy their appetite? This race isn't about change, healthcare or the economy for the Clintons, but it's purely about them, the trinity of self..Me, Myself and My Dog. In Obama at least you have all nations of AMERICA..whites, blacks, yellow and red..someone who is able to unite all of you and bring a new kind of leadership to only not America but the rest of the world because he comes with no excess baggage. Why do you think Obama is doing well across of sections of Americans, both educated and uneducated? because these ones can see through the box. Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Democrats Abroad, American Samoa.
Take a good look at that list.
Which do you think will generate a "Barack the Black Candidate" white voter backlash from his overwhelming victory in South Carolina, where is seems he is winning about 25% of the white vote?
Maybe Alabama, but 25% of Alabama's electorate is black anyway, 91% of which voted for Kerry in 2004. If Obama gets the same racial breakdown here that he got in South Carolina, he's looking at 40-45% of the vote, with Edwards still in, making it extremely difficult for the Clintons to prevail.
Tennessee? Maybe... but the Ford debacle is still fresh in many mouths, many of whom will come out and vote this time.
Arkansas? Sure... give them Arkansas.
Georgia? Maybe... but the New South lives here, more than anyplace else. There may actually be a white voter backlash here against the CLINTONS for their transparent race-baiting.
Speaking of which, irony of ironies, the Hispanic vote may loom as the Clintons' only bulwark against Obamomentum in the Southwest and California, but California is the ultimate media battleground, and Obama will play well there. Further, the under-rated Native American electorate is resonating with him as well. It's also hard to estimate the impact of the Red State endorsements that Obama has already received, but they won't hurt. And early endorsement season is far from over... Caroline Kennedy just endorsed.
Aside from what I know about politics, people and polling, I have actually lived in or spent significant time in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.
I suggest that the Clintons count their Super Delegate blessings each night... while they can.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

It was a brilliant speech, and I agree with you completely.

Actually, on that note, Mr. Todd thanks for coming back to sanity! For the past week, the legitimacy you and the other talking heads on MSNBC have really lost a lot of my respect. You literally took one poll (MSNBC-Mason-Dixon), performed with the smallest sample size of all of the recent SC polls, and hypothesized that Obama had become Jesse Jackson. I'm glad tonight you were proved wrong.

MSNBC's coverage is usually quite reasoned and accurate, but the credence you have given to certain polls (even if its in your own name) raises significant questions regarding your loyalty to scientific analysis. Instead of having Buchanan and co. claim Obama has become Jackson redux for 3 days straight, how about trying looking at more than one poll? www.pollster.com is a great place to start to prevent from making such huge mistakes again...

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

This man will indeed unite our nation in a way no one else can at this moment in time!

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Congratz to Barack Obama on this resounding Victory. With 25% of the caucasion vote (29% caucasion Male's)Barack showed he's able to form a coalition for a Democratic Victory in Novemeber. Who else on either side would gove a speech trying to unite republicans and democrats, blacks and latino's and asiasns and native americans. The senator can now bang the drum of change, of vision, of inspiration, of policy and ideas without having to engage the Clintons in mud-throwing. With the win, he can effectively close that chapter of the campaign and rise above it...which is his best strength. Today's speech was different from the earlier 2 speeches, in that he wanted to stand out against the low level politics deployed by the Clintons. By bringing that out, he could reinforce the message of hope and change; not only against the current White House, but also against the brand of politics the Clintons stand for. Today hope and an urge for change trumped experience in S.C., and Obama was quick to pounce on this and make that as the central point in this election. He has tried to cleverly link experience with Washington politics, and wants to position himself as a person with new ideas and a fresh outlook who can change Washington politics.
It was a bad night for the Clintons, and they are down, but surely not out. I thought Hillary's voice was very strained in Tennessee as she tried to manage damage control in the wake of this thumping. I had thought she would have had a better speech ready to counter Obama's victory. He is much cooler under pressure than she is. And on MSNBC Pat Buchanan did seem a little pissed off that so much was being made of the Obama victory - probably because he recognizes that Obama is becoming a phenomenon. And then Pat talked about the race problems in prisons between the Latinos and blacks, as if that is going to be a problem for Obama. The Latinos will vote for Obama, Pat, except maybe the Cubans in Florida. And by the way, why do people say Obama is black?

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

loved his speech i held back tears, very moving

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

An interesting statistic the media failed to analyze tonight: 155K more african americans voted in this year's primary. Obama was getting approximately 80% of the african american vote and a large percentage of first-time voters, meaning that Obama likely got over 80% of those additional african american votes. Combine this with Obama's curiously similar margin of victory--154K votes--and this means that, contrary to Joe Scarborough's commentary and the "headline" in the NY Times, Obama really did win because of black voters, not white and black voters. Without the additional turn out of 155K african american voters, this race would have been a near tie.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Current Air Force officer and veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan and Gulf War... patiently waiting for Commander-in-Chief Obama!

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

I lived the years of JFK,RFK,MLK,Cesar Chaves.I hear,I see,I say.SI SE PUEDE.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

I was thrilled with Barack's win tonight in S.C. and was incredibly proud of the people of that state who rose above a past of division and racial mistrust to do something really great for themselves and the rest of the country! I am nearly 62 at the leading edge of the baby boom and began working for Democratic candidates in 1964 (when Hillary was a Goldwater girl)and just once, I want a candidate and president who inspires us again. Thanks Obama and the good people of South Carolina!

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Congats to OOOBAAAMMMAAA!!! I am a Jamaican and have followed the primaries daily. This is a new day for America and American Politics. As a specialist in international politics and international relations I have never before seen the likes of Barack Obama. I am totally mesmersised and filled with awe at his oratorical skills and his ability to appeal to the truest ideals in all of us, no matter what country one is from. I am truly happy I am alive to see this day. I would caution all of us however, who desire a new and better way to be vigilant. Do not rest utill victory is complete, until Obama is in the White House. I have always been an admirer of the Clintons and Bill in PARTICULAR because I thought that he was brilliant and non-judgemental. That he was able to see a man/woman based on the substance of one's character. I no longer believe that and this makes me sad. How can one who has had so much going for Him and a Statesman of such high repute, allow the desire for power to destroy what he worked so hard to build. What credibility now remains for this former President on the International scene. How can He regain the respect of His colleages and the credibility and not least, the legitimacy to be able to garner support for Countries in this Hemisphere and the African Continent. Will be still believe that He cares for those who are not of his ilk or dare I say skin? I just don't know. Maybe there is someone out there who does.

I believe American can; Do you!!!

Jamlink

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

WOW! I am blown away by tonight! It's hard to put into words, but I am SO proud of the South Carolina people for seeing through the lies and dirty trick tactics of the Clintons, and seeing Barck Obama for who he is: an honest politician with integrity, intelligence, a vision & the ability to unite us. I am so proud of the South Carolina people for not making this election about gender or race, but about the character of the candidate we want to lead us. As a life long Democrat, I never thought in my lifetime we would have another President who would inspire us to greatness as JFK did. Now Caroline is going to endorse him! Perfect! We worked very hard in Iowa to get Barack's message out...always in a positive, respectful manner (it was a mantra of our one paid campaign worker, and all over the office: Respect!)So please, if you are from a Feb 5 state, please take alittle time to go to your Obama office or call the state organizer and volunteer a few hours. Barack continues to make this campaign about us, not him. I agree with Robert in Florida that Obama cares more about America than personal ambitions. Too many people, unfortunately, have become committed to their choices, and bickering between the campaigns has caused people to harden their positions. Obama is broadening the base of the Democratic party by bringing in independents and young people. Democrats need to take notice of this. We have lost the past two elections by small margins, and if McCain is the Republican nominee, he will attract a large number of independents. Unfortunately, Clinton could have some problems with attracting independents voters since she has high negatives (not an opinion, an objective fact born out by several polls). Obama has shown that he can compete, and will be in a stronger position to counter McCain because of his opposition to the war.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Great speech by Obama. His speeches are always good. When he's speaking off the stump you really find that he has sound policies for America and he is focused on the same issues (with more detail) that he addressed in his magnificent victory speech in South Carolina. He is the real deal, as my 77-year-old,white,republican,father-in-law describes him. He can pull us together. And my husband, republican turned independent by the "today's" republicans, raised in Albany, NY, lived in Connecticut 5 years, Georgia 12 years and now in Maine is for Obama. My sister, raised in Georgia, lived most of her adult life in San Francisco (extremely liberal 58 years old) is for Obama. He really does transend gender, age, race, and party.

It's funny the "race" card has been played without hardly mention of the "gender" card. This shows the type of campaign the Obama camp is running that they have not turned this into a race about "gender" as the Clintons and their supporters have about race. Now if the media would just stop making it about race! It's like the tired old divisive issues the republicans keep harping on (turnover roe vs wade, no equal rights for gays, etc.) - I truly believe we as a country have moved past these things in most regions, not all but most, and now somehow we have to get the media to do the same.

I have always respected the Clintons, admired Bill Clinton, and never thought I would see the day where I wouldn't, but I've seen that day now. It has been shameless, the win-at-any-cost campaigning the Clintons and their supporters have done. It's sad that Obama is trying so hard to bring this nation together, to stop the old divisive ways that want to creep into our elections and government, but assumed it wouldn't happen until the general election, but has happened instead within our own party, the democrats who are suppose to be the party of "all" the people, and then for it to come from one of the most respected men in the democratic party. It will be a sad day if this divisive campaigning wins in the end.

So now moving forward, the endorsements next week I hope will start coming in, first Carolyn, is Ted next? Oh if we could only hope for Gore's endorsement? and what about Biden? I recieved an email a couple of days ago from him (one of the first since he pulled out of the race) and it was forwarding an article that had been written regarding the very likelyhood he could be chosen to be in the next democratic adminsitration - the cabinet, secretary of state maybe, or vice-president to Obama. The article was interesting that it never mentioned Clinton but mentioned Obama a couple of times. And interesting as well that he's sending out the article to his past supporters - maybe an endorsement is coming. Obama/Biden - now for me that would be a ticket hard to beat.

Yes. We. Can.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Obama, the sleazy soutside Chicago politician will slander the Clintons and allude to them as liars. He will also keep over $ 100,000 of Rzko's xleazy money and not admit to it .

Obama isn't different. He is sleazier than most.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

I'm in the grips of a feeling I haven't had in at least 8 years: pride in my country. The Baby Boom Generation has given us many successes as a Nation, however, too it has given us many defeats such as less respect in the World, a level of morality that is bringing about a City of Atlantis type demise to be carried out by Generation X'ers and beyond, and have taken the dollar and politics to a new low. It has been and continues to be the Baby Boom Generation that taunts us with race and gender, the very two things they have used continuously to divide this great Nation. Unfortunately, a Clinton presidency, and soley due to Bill Clinton, would move us backwards instead of forward. We would return to the politics of revenge, for he has not forgotten those who tried to take him down. And Republicans would not join to support Hillary because of Bill. BOGO (Buy One Get One) free is not always a good thing. An Obama-Edwards ticket is the future. It's a sure thing for capturing all demographics...male, female, red, brown, yellow, black, white, young and old. Together - YES WE CAN!!

Vote OBAMA!!

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

I don’t see how anyone can say race is not playing into this. Look at the exit polls.. Given an alternative, blacks vote for their own unanimously… While whites have racism pushed down their throats continuously, what type of message does this send? Seems like the problem goes both ways??? Why does no one talk about that? I think that if Obama were white, he would be pulling the same as Edwards. There is a clear double standard in this race. Obama can say or do anything and gets a free pass from the press because everyone is nervous about criticizing him. I also feel that there are a lot of folks out there that resent this ’special’ treatment and will cross over and vote republican in protest (if Obama wins the nomination). One final thing, when is someone going to start asking Obama what “change” he is referring to??? I’m telling you, where is the media on this one!!! He’s criticizing Clinton for suggesting that he belly up and start talking specifics about all this change… Does no one else see through this crap???

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

One really great thing about Barack is that he is an amazing orator. Why are Americans so concerned about race, cast, creed and gender. Why? Heck, even India is much better - There are no blacks in India.. or white or yellow .. They had a "black cloured so called low caste dude" as President - and nobody called him black - They had a woman as prime minister and she was better than any man on any given day. America is the forefront of democracy or is it really? It's just a duo-poly of two very stong, very rich parties. No one else can get to start another one - and in the past 300 odd years, only a white male has ruled! Hurrah for freedom! What freedom, when you have to pay 1500$ annually for 80% Health insurance and pay the deductible of 1000$. Or pay $400 per month for car insurance if you are below 25.. America Runs on money and only money.. If you don't have the dough, you don't have freedom. And Mr. GWB is trying to export this democracy! I have been following his campaign and I am most impressed. I agreee the Clintons are power hungry and that is it. Do we really want Bill Clinton back in office. We have already seen that he is running his wifes campaign more than she is. Surely everyon must see that should she win this election he would run her office more than she would. Please people The Clinton are power and money hungry only. It is truly time for a change.
Race is not an issue. I am a single white female, older woman, and I have no problems with Barack Obama as a president. I think he has a good vision for this country.

It is time to show Hillary, that her power hungry status is not wanted. Let's give this truly gifted person our support through and through on this campaign as he continues. I know I will in my on primary when it reaches here.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

For those questioning race in the south....I'm a White Southern Mama for Obama!! And I got grandma onboard too!! I want my Bumpersticker!!!

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Ladies and gentlemen, you have just witnessed the power of the press. It was not Bill Clinton, nor Hillary Clinton, nor Barack Obama who turned South Carolina'a primary into a racial food fight. It was clearly the media who decided to "juice up" the race with cherry picking sound bites and sugesting they were racial slurs. Be aware of what actually happened in South Carolina. It won't happen again!
BTW, it is not partisan, they are doing it to the Republicans also, remember the sound bite with Huckabee "saying" he wanted to change the constitution to match the bible? He said no such thing...........pay attention.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

I'm a white 55 year old homemaker, mom of grown kids. I will caucus for Senator Obama on Feb 5. and will be proud to do so. His victory speech last night was uplifting. Caroline Kennedy has it exactly right. I remember her father, and how he brought hope to America. This is our chance to get things right again, regain our respect from nations of the world. We can't go backwards yet again.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

What's going on with MSNBC?? They are very divisive and polarizing, even in their own party. We Americans will always be faced with Republicans and their 'right wing' agenda and the Democrats and their 'left wing' agenda. Neither side is willing to compromise or find real solutions to the many problems facing 'normal Americans.' It is obvious that the Clintons will have no success in getting the democratic agenda moved forward because their opponents will recoil against their efforts because the Clintons mentality is: "It's my way or the highway." That gets nothing accomplished. We need a unifier that works with opponents to find common ground and solutions. Also, what's the deal with Bill giving the first concession speech for the Clintons? I know he's not a dem nominee. I hope Americans are increasingly aware of his role in Hillary's race. She can't win her own battles so she calls on Bill to do the 'dirty work' for her. I think we need a president that can stand on her/his own two feet and battle it out with opponents--not rely on her husband. This is not empowering to women. I won't even discuss their 'disgusting' attempts to paint Obama as the 'black candidate'--because it's not working. Most of his supporters in my hometown are white and middle aged. Take that Billary. I'm with Mitt Romney on one thing--Bill Clinton in the Whitehouse with all that spare time and nothing to do is a very scary thought. Parents around the country should pull their kids out of the "intern programs" in Wahington. Obama is the only candidate that will unify the country or get anything accomplished in Washington.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Living next to South Carolina the press down here kept over and over covering the "black angle", the Black man, the black..whatever !! Yes it mattered - and when you question his past or his record then they start screaming not fair, not fair your picking on him....A black congressional leader went so far as to "caution" the clinton campaign to watch it!! What are you hiding? I am signing up to vote Democratic this time because I would like to see Obama win. At first I was not but as I read all the mudd slung at him, it made me start looking at the man and what he stands for. I believe he will try to unite all cultures in our country and this is good.As only in uniting our people no matter what culture they are from into one nation under God will we be strong again. I am 78 years old, he has my vote and I talk to all I know and give them sites to look up for theirselfs. What a great showing for Barack. Now is the time to scrutinize the canidates. Who can accomplish the tasks ahead? I have long been a Clinton fan. Still am. However, when Barack emerged as a viable canidate I took him to heart. He's inspiring, brillant, articulate, fresh and a walking contradiction. He's black. He's white. Muslim schooling. Catholic schooling. Law professor. Politician. Does this give him a better insight into the diverse lives of Americans? Or does his diversity make it impossible to make decisions? I know I certainly do not have enough history on Barack to make the most important decision an American can make. Which is honoring a canidate with our vote. He brings us promises of hope, change, dreams and unity. I did not see unity in South Carolina. I saw a great divide.

But who is he really? Do we know yet? Probably for me, in watching him navigate the difficult political landscape, it came down to one issue. His inability to make a very difficult decision. A vote on whether or not to define the Iranian Republican Gaurd as a Terrorist Organization. He voted "present" which is his right to do. It was a complicated vote and politically explosive. It was a defining moment for me. I don't want a politician who is unable/unwilling to make the hard decisions. If you make a wrong decision, it can be corrected. If you make the right decision you can build on it. If you make no decision, you neither move forward nor backward. So, my question is, "how can you bring about change when you refuse to take a stand"? Making no decicions is in my view....cowardly. When those decisions involve our men and women fighting in Iraq it is crucial that our politicians do everything they can to protect them. So, this non-vote by Barack was pivitol in my assesment of him. I enjoy watching Barack. But, I want to watch him for a few more years. Let him get seasoned. Get comfortable with him. I hope my .02 of input is taken with an open mind. In this volitale world we now live in, I know I am not willing to place my faith in "hopes and dreams and promises of a new tomorrow". I want realities, proven track records and someone who has demonstrated the ability to take stances even when they are not popular. Yes, I am a Clinton fan to be sure. They have done great things for America. Life was good, peaceful under their stewardship. I'm just not willing to "roll the dice" and "hope and dream" that things will change. I will save that for another day.
Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

Ted Kennedy is going to endorse Barack. What Obama is talking about is bringing both sides together to consider ideas and policies and come up with something that both sides can get behind. That is what he means by old politics and new politics and bringing people together. That is his talent and if you look behind the rhetoric and spin, that is what he has been doing. All of you that are so vocal about all the things that are wrong with him, if you look you'll see that when he talks to people, they want to come together and make things happen. People need to be willing to work together or we will never recover from the polarization and gridlock that politics has become these last 15 years or so. I remember when it wasn't like this. It needs to change or we will lose our democracy and our standing in the world. If we give him a chance, Obama might just be able to inspire and direct that change.

Obama cheered to victory in S.C.

P.
