Issue neutralized and it's back to talking about the stained dress, Pardongate, the secret library archives and all the wonderful gossipy stories they may or may not contain, etc. etc. etc.

All her experience with the failed health care effort will be used against her and ridiculed as HillaryCare. Do you get an idea of how this campaign plays out? We lose again, that's how it plays out. Look, I won't give a candidate my support in a primary without carefully considering qualifications and electability. I have taken a hard, critical look at Barack Obama and my conclusion is that he would make an outstanding president. The guy is just consistently ahead of the curve and his judgment and instincts are head and shoulders above anyone in the race on either side. If we’re smart enough to avoid the race/gender/generational trap that the Clintons are leading us into and get behind him, he will give the die-hard Repubs fits trying to run against him in the fall. I sympathize with all my sisters who so badly want to cast a vote for a woman for the highest office in the country. I would welcome the chance to vote for a woman, but not this one. For once, let's try not to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Think before you vote!
First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

He and former President Bill Clinton had a heated telephone exchange earlier this month over what Mr. Kennedy considered misleading statements by Mr. Clinton about Mr. Obama,

Oh I can imagine so.....
When you put a hot tempered irish boozehound like Ted and a hot blooded sex addict like Bill Clinton, the sparks are going to fly....

Bill just better realize he has to stay out of his wife's campaign now and forever. Headlines like in the Boston Globe about Bill being a hatchet man can do no good for the Clinton's.

After the butt kicking they took at the hands of Obama, it's time for a new slogan from Hillary....

"It's the issues, not the tissues"

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

Rumors......Al Gore to support Obama!!!! While I admire Senator Obama greatly, I have known Hillary Clinton for over 25 years and have seen first hand how she gets results. As a woman, leader, and person of deep convictions, I believe Hillary Clinton would make the best possible choice for president. She shares so many of the concerns of my father. Hillary has spent a lifetime speaking out on behalf of the powerless and working to alleviate poverty, in our country and around the world. I have seen her work up close and know she will be a great President. At this moment when so much is at stake at home and overseas, I urge our fellow Americans to support Hillary Clinton. Kennedy, will also appear at the
rally, the sources said.

Democrats said the endorsement will help Obama with
traditional Democratic groups where Clinton has been
strong — union households, Hispanics and downscale
workers.

Also, the nod by the most experienced member of the
Senate adds significant standing to Obama, who is
working to prove he has the experience necessary to be
president.

The announcement stunned Senate colleagues, who had
expected Kennedy to remain neutral until the
increasingly vitriolic nominating contest with Sen.
Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) settled out.

“This is the biggest Democratic endorsement Obama
could possibly get short of Bill Clinton,” said a
high-level Democrat.

The Clinton campaign launched a last-ditch effort over
the last few days to stop Kennedy's move,
orchestrating a flood of phone calls to Kennedy from
sources ranging from union chiefs to his Massachusetts
constituents.

During his two terms in the White House, President
Clinton made repeated overtures to the Kennedy family.
So the senator’s rejection of his wife is at least as
embarrassing as her 28-point loss in the South
Carolina primary on Saturday.

Kennedy is set to appear with Obama at the “Stand for
Change” rally the campaign is holding at American
University in Washington, D.C., at lunchtime on
Monday, the sources said.

For months, former aides to President John F. Kennedy
and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy showered praise on Obama,
describing him as the heir to the Kennedy mantle.

But when Politico reviewed the Kennedy family’s
endorsements and campaign contributions in December,
reporters found a house divided.

A tangle of longstanding political ties, friendships
and gut feelings caused the Kennedys and those closely
identified with them to scatter across the primary
field.

Old hands to President Kennedy and Sen. Robert F.
Kennedy came out for Obama, in part because he
reminded them of the charismatic brothers. One of the
former advisers, Harris Wofford, said Obama “touches
my soul.”

“For me, no one has done that since John, Robert
Kennedy and Martin Luther King,” Wofford said in
December. “I waited a long time to have that feeling.”

Maybe Billary think 'race baiting' will be overlooked
by the Democratic party

Maybe Hillary will start talking like 'Aunt Jemima'..
That'll make things OK, won't it ?
Race Bait A go go ?
Then, have Bill 'feel your pain' ?

DO ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED ?
SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED ?
'RACE BAIT' TO GET ELECTED ?

Maybe Billary can get David Duke's endorsement...

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

Are women voting for HRC just because she is a woman? If so, then don't get angry when the Repukes beat her in the general election. I believe it is true that many DEM candiates throughout the country do not want her to be the nominee becuase it will hurt their chances in November. I believe many are jumping on the Obama bandwagon because it will ensure their success in Novemeber too.

Wake up DEMs, we have a winner in Senator Obama. And not only that, he may actually become a great President.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

Democrats that say they're the "true" Democrats because they support the Clintons...

Start throwing Republican attack lines at Ted Kennedy in 3...2...1...

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

If Obama gets the democratic nomination, then the Republicans will take the White House again. I'm not a racist, just speaking the plain old truth. If the democrats want to sit back and let this happen, then so be it. Hillary is the one that can go to work and get our country back on even keel, but if that is not what you want, then don't cry when the election comes about in November and the Republicans are giving the victory cry.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

Doesn't the endorsement of Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Ted Daschle, Patrick Leahy and the like undermine the contention of Obama that he is the outsider who can change Washington? Doesn't it kinda make you wonder why these men would endorse him if they really thought he was going to make any change to business as usual?

Obama is not the black candidate, he is after all part white, and as such would be just another man taking the reins in Washington. If you want real change, let's see how a woman would handle governing this nation. We have had 50 years of men guiding the nation, wouldn't real change be giving a woman a shot at it?

As for Obama being the next JFK, he is not. And lest we forget, JFK's personal activities while in the white house were not a lot different than those of one Bill Clinton, it's just that in those days we didn't air our presidents dirty laundry for the whole world to see. Anyone remember Marilyn Monroe and the Rat Pack?

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

I never thought today would ever come. George Bush's last state of the union address ... A time for celebration.... Saturday's primary was historic when you consider that South Carolina has always been a republican stronghold which was not the case in the primary since more Democrats voted than Republicans. Even FOX news has thrown in the towel and admitted that a democrat will occupy the White House in Jan '09. Thanks to GWB, the GOP died a slow death and have now been put to rest by there very own. All these
different people -- friends, co-workers, relatives,
people on a liberal e-mail list I read -- kept saying
the same thing: They've suddenly developed a disdain
for Bill and Hillary Clinton. Maybe this is just a
coincidence, but I think we've reached an irrevocable
turning point in liberal opinion of the Clintons.

The sentiment seems to be concentrated among Barack
Obama supporters. Going into the campaign, most of us
liked Hillary Clinton just fine, but the fact that
tens of millions of Americans are seized with
irrational loathing for her suggested that she might
not be a good Democratic nominee. But now that
loathing seems a lot less irrational. We're not
frothing Clinton haters like ... well, name pretty
much any conservative. We just really wish they'd go
away.

The big turning point seems to be this week, when the
Clintons slammed Obama for acknowledging that Ronald
Reagan changed the country. Everyone knows Reagan
changed the country. Bill and Hillary have said he
changed the country. But they falsely claimed that
Obama praised Reagan's ideas, saying he was a better
president than Clinton -- something he didn't say and
surely does not believe.

This might have been the most egregious case, but it
wasn't the first. Before the New Hampshire primaries,
Clinton supporters e-mailed pro-choice voters claiming
that Obama was suspect on abortion rights because he
had voted "present" instead of "no" on some votes. (In
fact, the president of the Illinois chapter of Planned
Parenthood said she had coordinated strategy with
Obama and wanted him to vote "present.") Recently,
there have been waves of robocalls in South Carolina
repeatedly attacking "Barack Hussein Obama."

I crossed the Clinton Rubicon a couple of weeks ago
when, in the course of introducing Hillary, Clinton
supporter and Black Entertainment Television founder
Robert L. Johnson invoked Obama's youthful drug use.
This was disgusting on its own terms, but worse still
if you know anything about Johnson. I do -- I once
wrote a long profile of him. He has a sleazy habit of
appropriating the logic of civil rights for his own
financial gain. He also has a habit of aiding
conservative crusades to eliminate the estate tax and
privatize Social Security by falsely claiming they
redistribute wealth from African Americans to whites.
The episode reminded me of the Clintons' habit of
surrounding themselves with the most egregious
characters: Dick Morris, Marc Rich and so on.

The Clinton campaign is trying to make it seem as if
the complaint is about negativity, and it is pointing
out that Obama has criticized Hillary as well. That's
what politicians are supposed to do when they compete
for votes. But criticism isn't the same thing as lying
and sleaze-mongering.

Am I starting to sound like a Clinton hater? It's a
scary thought. Of course, to conservatives, it's a
delicious thought. The Wall Street Journal published a
gloating editorial noting that liberals had suddenly
learned "what everyone else already knows about the
Clintons." (By "everyone," it means Republicans.)

It made me wonder: Were the conservatives right about
Bill Clinton all along? Maybe not right to set up a
perjury trap so they could impeach him, but right
about the Clintons' essential nature? Fortunately, the
Journal's attempt to convince us that the Clintons
have always been unscrupulous liars seemed to prove
the opposite. Its examples of Clintonian lies were
their claims that Bob Dole wanted to cut Medicare,
that there was a vast right-wing conspiracy, that
Paula Jones was "trailer trash" and that Kenneth Starr
was a partisan.

Except Dole did vote to cut Medicare, there was a vast
right-wing conspiracy and Starr was and is a rabid
partisan. ("Trailer trash" is, of course, a matter of
opinion, and it's a cruel thing to say, but as far as
whether it's a lie -- well, it's not like they called
William F. Buckley "trailer trash.")

So maybe the answer is that the Clintons would have
smeared their opponents in the 1990s, but lying is
unnecessary when the other party is doing things such
as voting to slash Medicare to pay for a big tax cut
for the rich.

But the conservatives might have had a point about the
Clintons' character. Bill's affair with Monica
Lewinsky jeopardized the whole progressive project for
momentary pleasure. The Clintons gleefully
triangulated the Democrats in Congress to boost his
approval rating. They do seem to have a feeling of
entitlement to power.

If Hillary wins the nomination, most of us will
probably vote for her because the alternative is
likely to be worse. Here he's turning his back on the last Democratic President in almost a generation for someone that can best be termed a rookie. Kennedy was probably on the fence with the situation until how he saw the Clintons behave in South Carolina. Anyone, and I mean anyone, that race-baited like the Clintons did last week would have been run out of their party on rails. Until last week, the Clintons were likely to win the Democratic nomination. Now it appears that they're on borrowed time.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

You go Lynette. What is the big deal with the Kennedy "endorsement" talk about a ball and chain around someones ankle. I am so glad he didn't support Hillary. here is what I can tell, Obama has said (on his plane) that he has spoke to Kennedy several times over the last year. I though he was against the Old Washington machine...LMAO..Who best to represent the OLD Washington machine then Kennedy. It appears that Washington has a motive on endorsements and they don't matter to most Americans. Let's face it, now Obama will really have a big problem with answering the Kennedy, Rezco (spelled wrong I know) problems. It's okay America, we shall all over come the Obama bull, were much smater then that. How many of you would like to have the house he bought for $300K. Oh wait, we can't. We just don't have his connections do we. While he is buying his house at half price we are robbing Peter and paying Paul to keep ours. So here we are, the theory of democracy was supposed to be the antidote to our fall, but we have tuned out, fight to retain the staus quo and live with failed promises. Politics have turned to lifetime career and they tout their longevity with "playing the game". Only few politicians really knows what it is like to be ordinary citizen and now we can easily fall for their lies and deception. The world is looking at us right now and i know that anything but BUSH will do, however our choice will be also very important both on a philosophical level as well as on a redemption level. We need to seize this golden moment and elect a fresh, uncoventional, new face to the head of our government because i beleive it will serve as a new start, serve as a redemption and more importantly give the power back to us. Poverty level in this country is nothing compared to poverty in most other countries but we hardly even notice that. We have become so complacent with our lives that we have lost touch with our inteligence when it comes to electing someone. It will really be a shame if we dont see the opportunity in a candidate like Obama. If the status quo talk us out of electing him and business continues as usual, then it will be the country's destiny to start falling even with our precious democracy. Right now we need everything changed and i dont trust Hillary to change everything because most of the things that needs changed have benefited her. Obama on the other hand is a junior senator and hardly have any ties or loyalty to what we need changed. For once in our lifetime, let's think of what is best for our country. Good luck and i wish all us well.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

I agree with JT (above)--endorsements of Obama by the old Washington guard (Kennedy, Kerry, Dashle and Leahy) seem to clash with the Obama message that he's going to change Washington, bla, bla, bla. I disagree with the comment of the person (above) who thought that Kennedy's endorsement was really going to help Obama because Kennedy's such an active and relentless campaigner, as in campaigning for Al Gore and John Kerry--my comment: look how far it got Gore and Kerry! Once people reflect on this latest development, I think many will realize that despite Obama's talk, he really is a politician, just like anyone else running for president--he has to be to get as far as he has and to have raised as much money as he has.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

In one of the messages above, Clinton's skeleton's stacked up a bedroom full. The only difference between him and JFK was the press never released the information about all of his laisions.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

I am really wanting to see where Arnold Swartzeneggar and Maria Shriver falls in this Kennedy thing. OBAMA !

From the Denver Post:

Obama, Clinton split Colo. voters
Romney leads GOP
By Michael Booth and Michael Riley
The Denver Post

Mitt Romney enjoys a dominant, 19-point lead over John McCain among Republicans likely to attend Colorado caucuses Feb. 5, with Mike Huckabee trailing and Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani barely registering a nod, according to a Denver Post poll.

The Democratic caucuses hold more potential for high drama in the presidential race, with Colorado voters split evenly between Barack Obama at 34 percent and Hillary Rodham Clinton at 32 percent — well within the poll's 3.5 percentage-point margin of error. John Edwards was the choice of 17 percent of likely caucus-goers. Fourteen percent said they were still undecided.

Obama's strength in Colorado may come from the fact that the state's Democrats see the desire for change as a driving issue in the campaign. The poll showed 51 percent of Democrats see change as more important than experience — and the ability to bring change is a trait they overwhelmingly associate with the Illinois senator.
The issues on voters' minds are familiar, with the economy, the war, health care, immigration and homeland security topping the list. But poll results show those issues play very differently depending on party affiliation.

The war is the biggest issue on the minds of Democrats, but it ranks relatively low with Republicans. Immigration is an important issue with Republicans but not Democrats. And the economy, while important to voters of both parties, tops the list as the most important issue in the campaign because it is the biggest issue on the minds of unaffiliated voters. That group — more than a third of Colorado voters — won't be participating in the caucuses, however.

Democrats in the state have been predicting a heavy turnout for their caucuses this year after a calendar change moved up their vote to a week when the race is still on. In 2004 and 2000, Colorado Democrats voted so late that John Kerry and Al Gore had long since whipped the field.

The state's Republican caucuses last considered a presidential candidate in 2000, when George W. Bush solidly beat John McCain.

The poll results put added pressure on the Clinton and Obama turnout machines, with many voters saying they are comfortable with the tossup.

"It's tough, because I do like Hillary Clinton and I do like John Edwards," said Obama fan Jennifer Howie of Longmont. "I have bounced back and forth. I think Hillary and Barack are pretty similar on their electability."

Romney the businessman

Colorado Republicans leaning toward former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney latch on to his successful businessman image and, like other Western voters, are more open to his Mormon roots, according to the voters and a poll analyst.

"He's put together, more than most of the candidates," said Leo Schmitz of Castle Rock. "Being a good businessman, maybe that's what we need with the economy the way it is."

But, like Clinton for the Democrats, Romney was perceived far more negatively than positively among all respondents, suggesting he'll have trouble appealing to a wider audience that includes Colorado's swing voters. He's too scripted and lacks warmth, many voters said.

"I'm the kind of person who gets gut feelings. His mannerisms, the way he talks, it just doesn't seem sincere," Shawn Schultz, a 52-year-old Qwest employee from Elizabeth, said of Romney.

Romney dominated the Nevada caucuses and has done well throughout the West, where Mormons are neighbors instead of a distant question mark, said Brad Coker of the polling firm Mason-Dixon. Coker's firm called 800 registered Colorado voters Jan. 21-23 and narrowed the responses down to those most likely to go to their party's caucuses.

The poll doesn't reflect the candidate preferences of independent voters, a key swing group on the rise in Colorado, and that's an important caveat in an election season featuring wide swerves in affinity.

Likely Republican caucus-goers tipped to Romney over Arizona Sen. McCain by 43 percent to 24 percent, with former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee at 17 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul had 5 percent, while former New York Mayor Giuliani, a former front-runner who has been concentrating on Florida, was at 4 percent.

But those preferences veil big differences in the way Republicans see their party's field. They tend to vote based on the issues important to them, helping to explain the difficulty voters nationwide are having rallying behind one candidate. Republicans in Colorado clearly see Romney as best on immigration, McCain best on terrorism, and Huckabee best on values.

Experience vs. change

For the state's Democrats, their perceptions of the candidates upend some conventional wisdom. Despite Clinton's long association with the nation's health care debate, they see Barack Obama as better able to deal with that issue than the former first lady. And although Obama voted against the initial Iraq war resolution and has made that opposition a centerpiece of his campaign, Democrats believe Clinton is better able to deal with the war.

"She's probably had more experience working with the military than Obama has," said Nancy Goese, a Greeley Democrat and retiree who said the war is by far her most important voting issue.

"On that first vote, everyone thought they were looking for weapons of mass destruction. Everyone would have voted for it because Bush said it was about protecting the United States," Goese said.

And the gap between the perceptions of party voters is no better illustrated than by the way they see the former first lady. Asked which of the candidates would best be able to work with Republicans, Democrats picked Clinton by a wide margin. Asked which of the Democrats would best be able to work with them, just 8 percent of Republicans chose Clinton — putting her at the bottom of the list.

By narrowing the respondents down to likely caucus-goers, the poll's margin of error rose to 9 percent for Republicans and 8 percent for Democrats. The poll was taken before Saturday's Democratic primary in South Carolina and the important contest for both parties in Florida on Tuesday. For Democrats at least, Colorado's final results are wide open, given the margin and the big news to come before caucus day, Coker said.

Colorado voters were surprisingly optimistic about the nation's future, despite weeks of troubling economic news. Forty-seven percent of voters expected things "to get better," while only 21 percent said they would get worse, and 20 percent expected more of the same.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

"We are MSNBC, and Florida doesn't count because we say it doesn't count. And because we are ga ga over Saint Barack." But this Obama cheering is getting ridiculous. The number of delegates decided up to this point by the primaries and caucuses--even if every single one of them had gone to the same candidate--is virtually meaningless. You need 2025 to win. This nearly-complete first phase of the campaign has been all about two things and only two things: winnowing the field and setting the table for Super Tuesday. And if you think a double-digit win in Florida with all candidates on the ballot and a record turnout won't mean anything, you are flat out nuts. Both the meaningless SC primary (only 8 reliable Republican electoral votes in the general) and the Ted Kennedy endorsement will be old news after tomorrow evening, when the last momentum setting event goes decisively to Sen. Bloomberg may pull a few votes away from the GOP candidate but with Hillary in the race they will more then likely unify against her and fully back the GOP candidate.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

I am getting really annoyed with people saying that Obama can't win the general election because he's black. That is complete and total crap. Anyone who would not vote for an African American for President WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR A DEMOCRAT no matter who it is. If you think the bigot vote means Obama can't win, then none of the democrats will. Seriously, you think Hillary, who is probably the most hated national political figure since Richard Nixon, actually has a better chance?
And as far as experience goes (for those of you who aren't just using that as a veiled racial excuse), keep in mind that three of the best Presidents of the twentieth century had little experience in elected office.
They are:
FDR- Served two years in NY state house and four years as Governor of New York. So he had less experience than Obama.
Woodrow Wilson- Served two years as Governor of New Jersey. That's it. Way less experience than Obama has.
Teddy Roosevelt- One year as assistant secretary of the Navy, one year a Governor of New York, and six months as Vice President before McKinley was assassinated. One of our greatest Presidents ever, Teddy had just over half the experience when he assumed office than Obama has today.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

intersting that you criticize MSNBC for over reporting Obama - it shows your true allegiance. Why not complain about every move the Clintons make as a brilliant political move. Pat Buchannan's bias is so vivid it is ridiculous that they refer to him as an analyst.

By the way, why is Obama's endorsements hit with criticism when Hilllary was endorsed and ordained long ago by many. There are people who landed on her team on day one and will not waiver inspite of things she does.

Finally, as for Katherine Kennedy's endorsement, she is entitled. She has know he woman for 25 years. I would have been more surprised if she did not endorse Hillary. the reason that Ted and Caroline's endorsement is so BIG is what now brings to the Obama camp vs what other family members bring to Hillary's camp.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

It's amazing to me how everyone (media, pundits, society etc) refers to the "race card" as being the sole source of victory for Sen. Obama in SC. Being a Black person myself, I saw promise in Sen. Obama when he spoke for the DNC in 2004. What drew me to him wasn't that he was Black, but his message, his ideals, and what he stands for as a candidate is truly comparable to my own ideals. He has the ability to engage, uplift, encourage, and inspire the American people and potentially ignite a new movement in Politics. Could it be that the people in South Carolina responded to Sen. Obama in the same manner as I did? Could it be that they truly saw him as the better candidate? Were the people of Iowa also guilty of playing the "race card"? I think not. Sen. Obama has a wide appeal among all Americans, and we should not criticize any group of people for using their democratic rights as U.S. citizens and voting for the best candidate-Sen. Obama.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

Obama says we don't need the "same old folks, doing the same old thing," yet he's proud to stand up with Ted Kennedy, one of those same old folks, who do the same old thing. Obama is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. I will not reward this kind of behavior ever.

I am in Independent in California - and I will vote for Obama. I have never voted in a Primary in my life - but I will not be missing this one!

What the Democratic Party needs to look at is how much damage have the Clinton's done as far as the fall vote. Remember there is a writers strike and people HAVE been watching! I keep hearing news people say no one in California has tuned in yet - news flash everyone at my job is aware of and knows what's going on, friends call allthe time with political news - and I have had more long distance phone calls with friends about this election - than just to say hi.

I have talked to friends who are Republicans who are voting for Obama. I have not talked to one person who is a Republican who will be voting for Hillary. If it's not happening in the Primary it won't happen in the fall.

When I first started watching coverage I was neutral - I liked HRC - but the antics of Billary over the last month have disgusted me and made me wonder if Bill has a terminal disease the way they are shamelessly going after this nomination.

First thoughts: Ted Kennedy is all in

G. Although Bill Clinton is a master manipulator, a master of spin and redefining words he was not smart enough to realize you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. Now the Clinton campaign is saying they are going to try to present Bill in less harsh supportive role. "Will the real Clintons please stand up?" We have seen the authoritive presidential Hillary, the softer Hillary, the emotional Hillary, the experienced Hillary and the subordinate puppet wife Hillary.
