Tax the hell out of us and make it so that the poor will have homes before the middle class does, even though the latter will foot the bill.

Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

Obama's sarrogates were never Presidents and dont lie like a fraggin rug.
OBAMA 08..America's last chance to get things right...
Do you really want China to be the next Super Power?

Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

<<Combination of Oprah, Kennedy and Obama will become a dynamite before Tsunami tuesday. For the past 30 years, politics and politicians have been un-trusthworthy, crusty, out-of-touch w/ the 20,30's something idea-makers and corrupt... Obama brings something noone in their 20's and 30's have ever seen in politics and based on how fast our world works now, buzz and energy is spread via media outlets quickkk...

For the first time in our history we see how much of an influence the young generation can make in U.S History. As you've heard from the Caroline Kennedy and even Governor Sebelius, their children (in their 20's) are so inspired by Obama and his message of hope they are overwhelmed w/ excitement and vigor that it inspires their own parents to want to Change...

No matter if you are a repub, dem, or independent, its tough to deny the excitement and passion that the younger generation has for Obama is not making a difference in the thinking of the baby boomers and other politicians.. Why doesn't Oprah just run for president instead of using Obama as her pawn? Barack, when are you going to start speaking for yourself and tell the American people exactly what you have accomplished and voted for and/or against in the senate, to date. Present doesn't cut it. In the debates you avoid every question asked of you because you have no record to run on and are afraid to say what America doesn't want to hear. Why do you have to run to Oprah, Ted Kennedy and every other headliner to do it for you? Wake up Kiddo, although I really like you, you won't be the candidate of the future for awhile yet.... Please take a step back and take a good look at our country and the mess we are in and don't tell me you are ready to fix it. YOU ARE NOT.. Maybe in time, but not right now.
Oprah, I used to look up to you, but not anymore because in your heart you cannot tell me you actually think Mr. Obama is the most qualified individual to lead this country out of the mess we are in, but then again, I'm sure that is where Ted Kennedy comes in. (I wonder why Ted would back a candidate with no experience and think we would win the WH) With the credentials Barack presents at this time, anyone else would be laughed off the ticket, and you know it. I'm tired of hearing what all of your ambassadors say your going to do. I want to know ahead of time what you have already DONE..... Instead of trying to unite the Dem Party, waiting until you paid your dues in the Senate (which I am sure in time you will become a great senator) you have chosen to divide it. We could have controlled the WH for along time, but young people have no wisdom, it definitely comes with age. You will certainly get there, but you are not there yet, not by a long shot........ But it's important to scrutinize what the Clintons are doing and how it might work out.

Most notable about the South Carolina results was that Hillary did not get a majority (based on exits) of any racial or gender-based demographic. She is famous; obviously she has a great deal of money and support from the old guard of the party, such as it is; and she is very well-prepared on policy. But she is not tremendously popular. She was wrong on Iraq; she has little personal record of fighting for a cause; she offers a management-style Presidency as opposed to visionary change.

Most of Hillary's votes appear to come from women, seniors, and lower income voters. These demographic groups could turn to Obama. She has not aroused passionate commitment by them.

Hillary has a tenuous status as the alleged front-runner. This is of course the reason she and her husband are taking the low road in terms of tactics. (Not for a second should anyone think she has not approved her husband's tactics, or that he has run amok.)

The former President's repeated injections of racial references are unacceptable in modern politics, or even modern society. If he were a commentator on the Golf Channel, he would be asked to resign. We know he is doing this because he believes that there is a racist strain in the groups that Hillary is counting on. In particular he believes he can encourage Latinos in California, New York, and New Jersey to come out to vote against Barack, simply because Barack is African-American. He does not believe he can persuade them to want to vote for Hillary, but hopes they will either not vote, or will vote for anyone but Barack.

Yet the Clintons cannot make the case against Barack based on any policy. This frustrates them. There is not one aspect of Barack's policy arguments that can arouse much desire among any Democrats to vote against him. He was right on Iraq; he is progressive on virtually everything, despite Paul Krugman's irritation that not every economic policy prescription fits Dr. Krugman's preferences.

In effect, the Clintons want people to dislike Obama the same way that some dislike the Clintons: irrationally, with groundless preconceptions, passionately. They both feel stigmatized for no good reason. To them it probably seems fair, or at least simply part of the process, if Barack is also unfairly hated.

Pehaps too the Clintons feel that the Republicans would attack Barack on racial grounds, so it makes no difference if they beat McCain or Romney to this tactic. In any case, the Clintons are going negative because they do not believe they can with a positive message attract more voters to Hillary. They want to drive voters away from Barack; they want his negatives to be as high as theirs.

The Clintons are thus running their own version of the Republican Southern Strategy that worked so well to elect conservatives from Nixon through to the current Bush. Ironically, the Clintons themselves spent their political careers battling against that strategy. Defeating it in the border states in 1992 was central to Bill Clinton's election.

There's no crying in baseball or politics, so let's not shed a tear over the completely unprincipled use of race-baiting language by the former President. He knows his Presidency was marred terribly by the impeachment, and that his record of accomplishment was much less than he hoped it would be. He wants this return to the White House to give him, and Hillary, a chance to rewrite the history book entry on the Clintons. He does not believe his repugnant tactic will be part of that history; he is sure that if and when they get back in power they will accomplish so much that the way they got elected again won't matter.

Indeed, they suppose that in the general election all will be forgotten. Barack will be campaigning with them. Everyone will have a good laugh about the tricks they all pulled to win the primaries. If such amity does not come to exist, still the Clintons believe they can count on blacks to vote for them in the fall no matter what. After all, Bill Clinton has the chutzpah to think of himself as the "black President" so taking that demographic's votes for granted is no stretch of the imagination for him.

But the Clintons' use of the tactics of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove inevitably contributes to the perception that Hillary Clinton is running a campaign that is trapped in the past, where race has always mattered much in elections. That was true in the 80's and 90's. But in the 00's it may not be so. Harold Ford barely lost the Tennessee general election; affirmative action is not one of the big issues of this election cycle; nor is welfare; while race has been the history of America it may not be the future. In any event, even if Obama defeats the Clintons, it is possible that the Clintons' use of the race tactic now will inoculate Obama in the fall. It is possible that the public will see him, may indeed already see him, they way people see Oprah or Denzel Washington or Tiger Woods -- public figures whose race and personal history is certainly well-known, but is not a reason for disapproval, hostility, or even disagreement. (Exit polls in South Carolina reported that about 70% of white voters said they would be satisfied if Obama were the nominee.) If by surviving the Clintons' tactics Obama became that sort of public figure, then he would give Democrats at the top of the ticket a candidate who could produce a landslide not only in the South Carolina primary but also across the country in the general.

This is not a reason to applaud the Clintons' tactic. The Clintons' admirers, of whom I have long been one, still should be consumed with regret that the election has brought Bill and Hillary to make this choice. Howard Dean and others who have been silent should still speak out against what they are doing. The New York Times editorial page should have inveighed against this tactic instead of endorsing Hillary. The Los Angeles Times should speak up. But if Obama overcomes what the Clintons are doing, he may have turned a page in American history and he will certainly be the dream candidate for Democrats this fall.
______________________________

*Reed Hundt graduated from Yale College and Yale Law School, practiced law for 18 years, and served as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, 1993-97. Nine days from the primary, Obama California is waging day-to-day skirmishes to take the lead from Hillary Clinton, who has so far prevailed in this state but is slowly losing ground. Over the weekend and through Monday, the Obama grassroots has been on the offensive. All day Saturday, long before the polls closed in South Carolina, Obama California held a statewide phone bank in thirteen field offices with a goal of 100,000 calls and a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Not only did volunteers make 220,000 calls but also they targeted the "decline to state" voters, who in California can participate in the Democratic Primary.

By Sunday, the Obama Campaign was holding a conference call with the press to announce the California Truth Squad, which will be quick "to respond to misleading negative attacks from the Clinton Campaign." Unless the Clintons harbor a political death wish, likely they have already set a new course, with a new tone--same as they did after Iowa. Therefore, the California Truth Squad may never muster; nevertheless, the nine pols, led by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, are ready--just as the Obama Campaign, stung, and perceiving, rightly or wrongly, that they were the object of dirty tricks at the Nevada caucuses, sent out the call nationwide for lawyers to come to South Carolina to monitor the voting. On Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle endorsed Obama and thereby brought to twenty the senator's endorsements from California newspapers (to date, Clinton and Edwards have one endorsement each). Yet more evidence that the Clintons' and their surrogates' misstatements and insinuations about Obama have backfired is this reasoning from the Chronicle editorial board in making their decision: "Especially in recent days, her [Clinton's] campaign has shown the sharp elbows that evoke the ugly underside of the Clinton years. . . ."

Now more California politicians are jumping on the Barack Express. Also Sunday, Xavier Becerra, the ranking Latino in the House of Representatives and assistant to Nancy Pelosi, announced his endorsement of Obama. Suddenly, California Latinos are coming out of the woodwork. Just before the South Carolina primary, state senate majority leader Gloria Romero was made a national co-chair of the campaign. By Monday noon, Joe Coto (chair of the CA Latino Caucus), Nicole Parra, Gilbert Cedillo and Dean Florez--all state legislators--were standing with Romero on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento to speak out, in both English and Spanish (Univision was rolling the camera), in a press conference for Obama. Why these folks didn't start campaigning last fall is the big question, but one drowned out by the bigger endorsements of the day from Ted Kennedy, his niece Caroline and Toni Morrison. Topping this good news--if such a thing is possible nine days out from primary--is the four million dollars the Obama Campaign raised online over the weekend.

Saturday through Monday, between press conference calls on subjects ranging from Latino Outreach to economics, I traveled from one Obama event to another, trying to get a sense of where, after South Carolina, his campaign stands in California. On the one hand, despite all the good news, the task is daunting. So many voters here just are not that familiar with Barack Obama and certainly have never taken his measure in person. Some Californians--but only a fraction, given the state's population--will get a chance to see him at several events, yet to be determined, when he comes for the Democratic Debate three days from now in Los Angeles. A campaign fundraiser Sunday night brought home to me how little people here know about Obama. This was a gathering of well-heeled Berkeley intelligentsia, a $1000 a person soiree which the hostess thought might bring out fifty people. At least 150 professors, scientists, writers and artists crammed a South Berkeley brown shingle house to hear Tobias Wolff, Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers and Daniel Handler testify to their Obamic conversions. In conversation with attendees, however, I was surprised how little many of them knew about the Obama Campaign so far and more importantly about Obama himself. If Berkeley's best-educated haven't had the time or the inclination to acquaint themselves with the facts, what about the rest of California? This is and always has been the disadvantage for Barack Obama: his opponent is so much better known than he.

On the other hand, many Californians, piqued by Obama's successes in Iowa and South Carolina as well as the slew of new and glittering endorsements, are--to use one of the campaign's favorite epithets--low-hanging fruit. Some of these may have been turned off by the Clintons' tactics of late; some may have heard either the Iowa or South Carolina victory speech. I don't know the backstory of the lady who paused at the foot of the north steps of the Capitol Monday as the Obama press conference was setting up. She was walking her little black poodle, and since I like dogs, I fell into conversation with her. She asked me what was going on; after I explained, she asked me a few things about Obama. The press conference was running behind, and eventually I turned away to talk with some of the other reporters. Fifteen minutes later, the event began with a group portrait (good for a few seconds in the evening news) of Obama supporters, legislators and locals alike, on the steps. In the group, cradling Jasper (poodle) in one arm and an Obama placard in the other, stood the dogwalker. If enough Obama Californians reach out to neighbors and colleagues--and the random dogwalker--the senator can come close to winning here. Such proselytizing is easier said than done; it really is Jehovah's Witness kind of work. It's hard to picture the crowd at the South Berkeley fundraiser approaching peers at the university and the think tank, Novartis and Pixar, the tennis club and the produce market. But that's what it's going to take.
Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

Emma,
Just who are supporting then? Hillary has even less experience than Obama if you count elected office. Surely you are not counting her years as First Lady as experience???

Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

Uhhggg....I am so sick of the Clintons. 4 years of Herbert, 8 years of Bubba, 8 years of Dubya. Turn the page.

Sebelius will be Obamas VP and that will take away the only reason millions of women in America would support Hillary as a leader over Obama. Sebelius not only takes away the "I''m voting for a women" argument from Hillary, but she is also a rising Superstar in the Democratic Party and has proven that she can bring a successful bi-partisan approach to politics. Plus she doesn''t carry the years of personal baggage that Hillary drags around. I think when this gets announced (hopefully before Super Tuesday) people will quickly realize that Sebelius represents what America wants Hillary to be.

There is no way Hillary can bring the same unifying and inspirational message to the White House that Obama / Sebelius ticket can. He embodies what this country "is" a mix of culture, ethnicities, heritage, and economic standings. What other candidate can lay claim to such qualitys. Hillary Clinton is no more qualified than Barrack Obama. Being the First Lady is not being the President. She is more experienced at dealing with the slings and arrows of the Republican image assassins, but what country did she run? New York has a lot of reps, what has she done single handedly? What makes her more qualified to run a country and shoulder the responsibilty of a nation as diverse as this one. America is not White. It is not Black, Latino, Asian, nor Cristian or Mormon. Our president should respresent all of us for once. You can not unify a nation by dividing the people. This whole election process is a fiasco!! Let us disect the candidates. The media has way too much pull and power!! This is just too funny, get the stars out of the picture too!!! As a Republican who never voted for a Bush or Clinton, it wasn't an easy fit. There's no way I'd vote for twenty years of dynastic rule. But Barack wasn't the first place I looked, for sure. Well she did the hard work. She went to the upstate conservative crowd and convinced them that she was a good bet. In the 7 1/2 years she has served the state of New yjork she has made mistakes and she has made progress. That is the nature of politics. I will never forgive her for the Iraq vote or the Iran vote but at the end of the day I think she is the one we need to get through the next sycle in this country if we have any hope of coming out with some hope for a good future. Technically, this is false: Obama has served more years in elected office than Hillary, specifically, 8 years in the Illinois Senate (which follows nearly identical rules and procedures as the U.S. Senate), and 3 years in the U.S. Senate for a total of 11 years. Moreover, Obama spent many years as a grassroots organizer on the poverty ravaged streets of south Chicago working for school reform and environmental protection among other key issues, was a civil rights lawyer, and a law professor at the University of Chicago which is one of the top law schools in the world. Clinton, on the other hand has served only one term plus a year in her second term-a total of 7 years in elected office. Being first lady does not count the same as being elected or appointed. There is no accountability-- no one knows what she did or didn't do, as she wasn't official given she was not elected or appointed. There is no record. Thus far, she has taken the liberty of cherry picking the good things she did, but this is problematic as we don't know the mistakes she made--again, because she wasn't elected. It is undemocratic for her to claim she is fit to be president for her role in a non-elected, non appointed position. Now, she has switched to saying she has "35 years of experience". The commencement address at Wellsley apparently is part of this "experience" which makes ready to be president. If she now wants to count non-political experience, then Obama can best her in this area as well. Please see the breakdown below. At some point, the media must sort this distortion out, by simply laying out the resumes of the candidates:

Obama served 8 years in State government (Illinois state Senator), and been in the U.S. Senate for 3 years.

Hillary Clinton has served 7 years in the U.S Senate, and has no prior experience in elected office.

Bill Clinton served in State Government for 10 years (Arkansas Governor), and served ZERO years in national government.
John Edwards served 6 years in the U.S Senate, and has no other experience in elected office.
Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

If I was counting on Sen.
