The popular vote was a draw, the delegate count a rough draw, but he won 13 states, and when you look at the map he captured the middle of the country from Illinois straight across to Idaho, with a second band, in the northern Midwest, of Minnesota and North Dakota. He won Missouri and Connecticut, in Mrs. Clinton's backyard. He won the Democrats of the red states.
...
He is the brilliant young black man as American dream. No consultant, no matter how opportunistic and hungry, will think it easy--or professionally desirable--to take him down in a low manner. If anything, they've learned from the Clintons in South Carolina what that gets you.
...
Mrs. Clinton would be easier for Republicans. With her cavalcade of scandals, they'd be delighted to go at her. They'd get medals for it. Consultants would get rich on it.

The Democrats have it exactly wrong. Hillary is the easier candidate, Mr. Obama the tougher. Hillary brings negative; it's fair to hit her back with negative. Mr. Obama brings hope, and speaks of a better way. Hillary and Bill have alienated many Dems, including me. I'll sit this one out if Hillary is the nominee. Too nasty a campaign for my tastes.

He can appeal to Independents. Hillary unlikely to win many, if any.

He can appeal to some in the GOP. Hillary can't. She unites the GOP for McCain!

So, if we want to win, the math is easy. 30% of people are Democrats. 30% are GOP voters. 30% are Independents. To win, a candidate must get votes from all three groups. McCain can. Obama can. Hillary cannot.

Therefore, Obama should be the Democratic nominee.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Now, the 'experienced' candidate is John McCain

The anti war candidate is Barack Obama

The pro war candidate is John McCain

The candidate who FLIP FLOPPED on war is Billary
She was pro war befor she was anti war

Want experience ? Barack Obama would fare slightly better than Sen. Hillary Clinton in a head to head match-up with Sen. John McCain if the general election were held today, a new TIME poll reveals.

Obama captured 48% of the vote in the theoretical match-up against McCain's 41%, the TIME poll reported, while Clinton and McCain would deadlock at 46% of the vote each. Put another way, McCain looks at the moment to have a narrowly better chance of beating the New York Senator than he does the relative newcomer from Illinois.

The difference, says Mark Schulman, CEO of Abt SRBI, which conducted the poll for TIME, is that "independents tilt toward McCain when he is matched up against Clinton But they tilt toward Obama when he is matched up against the Illinois Senator." Independents, added Schulman, "are a key battleground."
First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Obama is a motivational speaker, yes. If you actually listen to him he is very inspirational. So is my preacher and he is not qualified to be the President of the US. His words have no substance. It's all about change change change, blah, blah, blah. I want the person who is going to be ready to tackle the horror of the White House after 7 years of you know what. I really hope that he accepts the challenge for the debates and is not a coward. We need to see more of him and what he is about. I hope he is not a coward

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Just an observation from the other side, My staunchly conservative, religious, Jewish boss has proclaimed that if the its McCain vs Clinton she will NOT vote but if its a McCain vs Obama vote, she will vote for McCain. Not only the presidency but a majority of senate and congressional seats as well. The Republicans know it and that is pretty much why Romney backed out as he did.

Romney and the conservative wing of their party is content to wait this thing out. They want Hillary as the nominee and potentially even the president for 1 reason. She is the rallying cause they need to unite their party again. She will do for the Republicans what Bush did for us. Every conservative pundit, editorialist and politician will spend the next 4 years in an all out assault against the new/old Clinton administration. Is that what people want to go through again?

Now maybe you can say Obama will get the same treatment but I don't believe it will be anything close to the blood bath their gearing up for against Hillary. Dems need to wake up and realize that on the surface both Obama and Hillary will make decent presidents. What we need to consider is the long term strategy of maintaining the white house and congress long enough to get something done. Obama is the only one who can who can do that.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Barack Hussein Obama
Louis Farrakhan
church leader J. We simply got lazy and allowed weak links to infiltrate our strong chains. Allowing various political parvenu (ie, Mac, Graham, Snowe, Lieberman) to claim the title of conservatives while harboring truly liberal values will only weaken our party.

QUARTO: Mac should be made an example of. By allowing him to wallow in a sea of emptiness, we will send a clear message to future candidates that our philosophy is not to be watered down. Ever.

QUINTO: Sweeping away the rubbish. He said this morning on "Morning Joe" that having Hillary in the White House would make people like Rush Limbaugh joyful as she would guarantee lots of material for him and other right-wing zealots. Well, let's not give Rush that opportunity! Nominate Barack Obama!

It just seems there is so much drama associated with the Clintons - either that they will fire up the GOP FOR McCain - or that McCain will force the Tom Delay's of the world to sit on their hands and not vote if Hillary is the nominee because they will love having her as a "punching bag" for four years. I want to say that judging by this Blog, as well as others like Politico.com, Huffington Post, Hotline, etc. there are HUGE NUMBERS OF DEMOCRATS WHO WILL SIT ON THEIR HANDS AND NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY - INCLUDING ME!! So I think the argument about people like Rush and Delay not supporting McCain in favor of Hillary is a non-factor because there are probably MORE on the Democratic side who will NEVER vote for Hillary and Bill!

So let's stop all of this madness and nominate a truly UNIFYING man - Barack Obama! This should not be some sort of "Machiavellian" contest to see who will alienate whom more, etc. It should be a contest between two good, honorable candidates - Obama vs. McCain - who have very different outlooks on major issues. But not a contest muddied up with all of this 1990s baggage that will come along with the process if Hillary and Bill are the choice of the Democrats.

NOMINATE BARACK OBAMA!!!

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Re: My staunchly conservative, religious, jewish boss has proclaimed that if the its McCain vs Clinton she will NOT vote

Even if Joe Lieberman is McCain's running mate or Hillary's for that matter?

How about if it is a McCain-Huckabee ticket, would a conservative think 2012 here I come and vote for the two?

Yesterday Romney insulted millions of Americans by stating he was withdrawing to avoid surrendering to terror aka a Hillary or Obama victory in November.

That was a irresponsible and reprehensible statement and not one Democrat has said one word about it at least till now.

Millions of Democrat supporters are also proud
Americans and to insult them in this manner is totally unacceptable.

But then the "fear" card is the only card the Republicans have to play.

And to think all those "smarter than you are" pundits on CNN and CSPAN and DISHPAN were counting out the conservative neo-cons and thinking they were irrelevant.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Attention Obama supporters. The Clinton haters are out today, ranting, raving and howling. They never talk about the issues. Well I live down here in Texas and I am going to expain a few facts of life to you. First, if you think that Obama will carry the red states that he has already won, you are sadly mistaken. He will lose lose all of the south and border states and if McCain is the nominee, he will lose Michigan, Ohio and Pa.The other red states of Alaska, Kansas, Idaho,Montana and Utah have very few democratic voters and some have never voted democratic since being added to the union of states. Dreams are one thing and reality is another. The republicans will use race and inexperience and rip him apart. Hillary, who has been attacked by them for years and is still standing has the best chance of defeating McCain. The bias media puts her at a tie with McCain aand Obama up by six points. This is before the attack machine has started, but I don't believe any of the polls the day of the election they were touting on MSNBC that she was down by 13 points in Ca.and played it and played it again and, and again. She won by 10 points and this is a swing of 23 points. MSNBC is just an Obama spin network.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

SENATOR CLINTON IS LOOKING FOR A FREE AIR TIME TO SHOWCASE HER STUPID "MANDATED" HEALTHCARE DEBATES.

SHE TOUTS "EXPERIENCE" AS HER STRENGTH AND THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND THE FAR-RIGHT CONSERVATIVES NEO-CONS ATTACKS!

INVOKING THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL ATTACKS AND SMEAR CAMPAIGN AS HER STRENGTH? ENOUGH ALREADY. Obama cannot win a general election, because he's not qualified to be President. Ask yourself why the corporate owned media would be so shamelessly promoting him? They fear Hillary. Hillary Clinton is the best candidate of any party, she's the most experienced, most intelligent, most politically skilled with the best grasp of domestic & international issues of any candidate. The Dems are lucky to have her! I trust that voters will wake up and realize Obama would sink our chances of victory in November. His thin resume of "I was a community organizer in the south side of Chicago and Senator for a couple of years" would be laughed off the stage. Obama should gracefully exit the race now so the Dem party becomes unified and no more money and time would need to be spent on the primaries.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Ron, Tx: Can you tell - does Senator Obama have a chance at being competitive with Senator Clinton in Texas?
Pat, Boston, MA (Sent Friday, February 08, 2008 10:28 AM)

Yes, I think so. The trouble with saying it's very competitive, or tilting to Obama, is that Texas is very large, and the cities have very different atmospheres. I am sure Obama will win Austin, it's highly educated, and college students are a large percentage of the Austin (50k attend UT, 10-20k at various other colleges in Austin, 600k total population). Many other parts of the state just don't like Hillary simply because of the Republican tilt. Dallas and Houston have very mixed populations. Her only benefit would be with latinos, which Texas has a LOT of. If Obama can figure out a decisive way to court these voters, and inform them of his stances on Latino issues (which are generally much stronger than Hillary's stances), I think it will at least be very close between the two.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Hillary, release your tax returns. You are preaching transparency in government. As a presidential nominee, you owe us that.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

In the next four weeks Obama has agreed to debate twice. BO & HRC will be crucified by him on this issue and independants will come to the realization that niether can be trusted with national security.

All the libs may think this war was wrong, however when it comes to the job of President the most important issue is Defense, all the other issues are secondary. McCain will be explosed as a self-righteous little man. Obama and Hillary will make news. The leads in all the papers on on all the networks will be the Democratic campaign. And Obama will gain the advantage thereby of increasing exposure. In contrast to McCain, that will be decisive when November finally arrives. Familiarity with Obama will (I hope) defuse the latent racism underlying the American electorate.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Just an observation from the other side, My staunchly conservative, religious, jewish boss has proclaimed that if the its McCain vs Clinton she will NOT vote but if its a McCAin vs Obama vote, she will vote for McCAin. She tried and failed to do this to Obama in Iowa, spent too much money, and has found her sources drying up as the Obama campaign catches fire and her "aura" is destroyed. The "loan" is a sympathy ploy, just like the tears, her staffers are being paid, she just wants to be able to brag about her fundraising ability and this was the only way raise money for her.
The superdelegates are laying low to see how this comes out, and will shift as the convention grows near and the outcome is clearer. Hillary may have them now, but they can change allegiance and WILL if necessary.
In Washington state, Hillary's campaign is robocalling to remind folks to VOTE for Obama, tho it's the CAUCUS that counts. (source: a campaign staffer)more dirty tricks, on every level, and in every state. They CANNOT be transparent--it does not fit the campaign mode of 1992, which is all the Clintons know and is non-operable today.
If the Clintons have dirt on Obama, it WILL be used before the convention, which should innoculate him from Republican hate radio well in advance of the general election.
Our next President will have to tell Americans many things they don't want to hear: the war has ruined our economy and destroyed our reputation in the world, providing healthcare, education and safety for our citizens will cost us more taxes, not less. We'll have to rejoin the world community on the environment and in the UN for political stability and peace. Personally, I don't see how the Clintons can do this, having demonstrated in two previous administrations that they (and that's a deliberate "they") can't solve these problems. I'm looking forward to the "Straight Talk Express" meeting the "Audacity of Hope" with the result being a stronger, safer, smarter America regaining its preeminence in the world.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Sierra, you are sounding alot like JERRY with your list: Whitewater-wasted tax $ on failed land deal that Gop cooked up to get the Clintons, Travelgate-PLEASE; Vincent Foster-Suicide or prove otherwise; Alleged rape; Monica- Another please(consenting adults); Iraq vote- which everyone in Congress voted for except 1 female representative from California and I believe a few senators. Chris Gregoire endorsed Barack Obama for president Friday, providing a last-minute lift to the Illinois senator on the eve of the state's hotly contested Democratic caucuses.

Gregoire, announcing her choice in an interview with The Associated Press, said that taking sides in the close contest for the Democratic nomination was tough, given her great admiration for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

But she said Obama is a charismatic and skilled leader who can bring the country together, help solve nagging problems, and restore the country's image abroad.

Gregoire planned to join Obama in a major campaign rally at Seattle's KeyArena on Friday....

Gregoire was the state's first female attorney general and is only the second woman governor in Washington since statehood. Washington is the only state with a female governor and both U.S. senators.

But Obama is quite popular in the Democratic strongholds of Seattle and other urban areas, and the Obama endorsement could help centrist Gregoire there.

"Lots of people said, 'Just stay out of it,'" said Gregoire, who faces a potentially tough re-election campaign of her own this fall.

"But all of my friends are going to caucus on Saturday and will be asked to make up their mind, so why shouldn't I? It was time for me to make up my mind."

Fellow Govs. Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas also have endorsed Obama.

...

"I gave it a lot of thought and it was a very difficult decision because I think Democrats and the nation are very blessed to have two outstanding candidates, both of whom would make a great president.

"Back when I was 18 years old, if anyone had told me in my lifetime we would have a choice between the first woman president and the first African American, I would have laughed out loud," she said. "They are both breaking the glass ceiling if you will."

Gregoire said Obama brings hope and inspiration to young and old alike.

"He is leading us toward a positive feeling of hope in our country and I love seeing that happen," she said. "I believe the nation faces significant challenges domestically and internationally and Obama is the person who has the ability to reach across artificial divides and move our national forward.

Barack is that kind of leader."
First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Last night I watched back-to-back episodes of 'Headliners and Legends' on MSNBC: the first on Hillary Clinton, the second on John McCain. Great segments, both. What really struck me is that if the election comes down to a contest of character/personality, as it inevitably does in the general, then McCain will win it hands down. My own mom, a staunchly pro-choice liberal, even said she'd vote for McCain over Clinton. Why is Hillary so unpopular even among so many women? Were McCain to be so inately unpopular among lots of veterans, I think it would be very legitimate to ask why.

The one clip that really stuck out in the Hillary segment was when she gloated to the TV camera, "Well, I guess I could have been a stay-at-home mom and baked cookies my whole life, but instead I chose to fullfill my career."

Is it really sexist to consider such a person a [female canine]?

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

The thought of McCain winning makes me sick. (Look at these posts) If Hillary and Barack do not play this right, the winner of the nomination may well be given the chance to be the loser in the general election because the “losing” camp may not come out to support our candidate in the general election. Example… Barack comes out saying that we cannot afford to return to the President Clinton years of 1992-2000 where Bill hurt the Democratic Party. Hillary’s campaign is allegedly marginalizing Barack. Barack says that Hillary will polarize the electorate. Hillary says that Barack does not have the experience. Then there’s the common judgment that we all know…. Barack is inspirational and idealistic and Hillary is realistic and ready to deliver (which I believe is a true assessment… I want both) Hillary wants to debate and Barack does not. Hillary wants to include Florida and Michigan delegates and Barack does not. Hillary gets the big states and Barack gets the small states. Hillary and Barack have distinct age, gender, and ethnic electorates that are solidly behind each of them. The pledged delegates will be statistically even and it will come down to two camps of Super Delegates.
We are heading for two camps and if Barack and Hillary do not find a way to bring the two camps together at whatever point we can have a nominee… we are toast in November as these two distinct camps will not fully support the other because of the points I’ve made. The only way I see this working out is that Barack and Hillary focus their campaign comments on the strong differences with the Republican Party and the President Bush ideology for the remainder of this campaign. The more they focus on each other’s differences… the gulf between the two camps will only become further apart. And if it goes to the credentials committee in the DNC, forget it… it will be a nightmare scenario.
First thoughts: Some good GOP news

We are in a war on terror. I am very worried about Obama'a past muslim upbringing. He attended a radical Islamic school. His father, step-father, grandmother, grandfather are all muslim. The Quran says once a muslim always a muslim unless you infiltrate to gain power. This has to be comsidered.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

In the GOP race...
If it comes down to McCain and Clinton in November, I would vote for McCain. Yet, we'll give them another chance and they can do it over and those can count. Waste of money and time. It should never have happened. The state dictated when the primary would be held; the DNC has no right to penalize voters for what their state government dictated. It is ironic, too, that there are always so many complaints that more people don't vote. Yet, here we are with people who did their civic duty but are going to be penalized. Thank you, DNC, for making such a mess of this! If there's any kind of deal to "split" the delegates, then it better be on a true percentage basis and none of "proportional" rationing system which STINKS.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

[Sounds like that came from an Obama source in Florida.] All Democrats were on the ballot here and Clinton won by a large margin. Florida isn't going to give it's deligates out based on anything other than the wishes of the voters of Florida.
Jim, Cantonment, FL (Sent Friday, February 08, 2008 12:08 PM)
*****************************************************No Fox and MSNBC yesterday - but thanks for the compliment! :)

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

Jack,
I have stopped watching the Obama network in favor of CNN and even FOX. I urge all who stand for Hillary to do the same. Matthews, Olberman, Tucker, Todd, slander Hillary at every chance they get.

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

I enjoy reading all of the comments on each of the canidates.. Democratic party is a very tight close race.... My hats off to both of them... People talk about the Super Tuesday as a big win for Obama and Hillary. But if you look at the totals and the seperation. You would have to say althou Obama won more states, his lead dimension in the sepeartion.
What is alarming is Obama carrying the smaller states and more is losing the larger states. If this was a general election, we could have another Bush / Gore race where Obama if the Democratic front leader would win the popular vote but lose the electorial vote.
Hillary carrying the larger states stands a good chance.. if Michigan and Florida had not been pentalized on seating thier delegates, you would see a definite larger seperation with Hillary getting the nod as the front runner.
Second, this is not heard of in the Primarys to see larger turn outs, althou larger in history this go around, question is when the true vote is required, how many of the young voters stay mobilized and vote. Historically, this has not been the case. So if Obama does not get the nod, does the young voters fail to show up to vote.
We are seeing history made, on one side someone who is motivating the youth of this country, on the other side experience.
I am torn between which to support and I have heard a number of reasons to support both. Thank you all for some of the insights. However, what holds me off from voting for Obama is 80% of voting present but failing to take a stance. If you are present go on record if you do not agree and vote against a political issue. If you support it then go on record and say so. As for his tax returns, Has he included his housing deal showing how he is questionable.... I do not want to see either of their returns.... Honestly. I want to see what they have done historically. Hillary althou judged by Bill's actions should be viewed at what has she done... Yes questionable acts, but a long history as well...
It is going to be interesting to say the least.. One last note.. Why would all of the Republicans stand up and shoot Hillary in a debate and forget about Obama...??? Simple, Obama they feel is thier strongest hope in a General election to win. Hillary, scares them.. Polls has shown Obama would win in a General.. Look at History, Gore in the Polls was suppose to beat Bush and won the popular vote and lost the election...
Vote smart, stand up and be heard.. We as America need change and be it Hillary or Obama.. change is coming.. Problem is.. as much damage that Bush has brought to us... No elected President in a 8 year term is going to fix it all.. to much damage was done..

First thoughts: Some good GOP news

What's wrong w/ saying you didn't stay home and bake cookies and bring up the kids? If a man said that you wouldn't think twice. Bill and Hilary have both said they'd back Obama if he wins the nomination. Yet, Michelle Obama, when asked if she would support Hilary said, "I'd have to think about that." Did the media run with that comment? If Bill sneezes, it can be twisted into something negative. Yet, this woman can make a statement that certainly doesn't coincide with her husband's message of unity and nobody says a word.
oknOK (Sent Friday, February 08, 2008 12:48 PM)
*****************************************************I have heard this commented on on several programs. But in what I heard they commented on Michelle saying about Clinton, I would have to consider her tactics, her tone....

What Michelle did not say is it is widely believed that the Clinton's want to be back in the White house so badly they will pay for the nomination by bribing Superdelegates (lets just pout it out there) and if that's how they win it - by hook and by crook (No matter what the popular vote looks like and how many states Obama actually wins) - I would think even all serious Hillary supporters would be disappointed about having that kind of leader - someone who uses those tactics as POTUS?

Bill as former President also needs to be concerned about how the History books will view him from here on out....not too well I fear.......
