In Wisconsin, Barack proposed n plan to improve infrastructure and create green collar jobs, something Hillary has already done. She even introduced a bill and has Senators co-sponsoring it. Anyways, to pay for this plan, Barack said the funds would come from ending the war in Iraq.

Is it possible to fund something by ending the war in Iraq? The budget that Bush proposes to Congress every year does not include funding for the war. Ending the war means that we won't go farther into debt. Ending the war does not, however, mean that there will be extra cash on hand to pay for these programs. In other words, if Barack were President, he would have to include these new programs in his proposed budget. There would be no reduction in spending in the budget to account for these new programs. Am I missing something?"

Where Obama's Journey Began

(CBS) When Barack Obama arrived on Chicago's South Side, he was on a mission to help. The fires of the once-vibrant steel industry had already died, there were 326,000 people unemployed, and nearly 70 percent of public school children were living below the poverty line.

"It was a lot of poverty there, but a lot of pride," says Loretta Augustine, a community activist.

Chicago was in the midst of a political firestorm. Harold Washington, the city's first black mayor, had taken the reins and racial tensions were running high, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric reports.

It was at a church, in 1984, where Obama came to work as a community organizer for a faith-based group called the Developing Communities Project. He worked in Altgeld Gardens, a racially segregated housing project on Chicago's far South Side. In a city where political power means everything, the people of Altgeld were invisible.

"To a great extent, we were powerless," Augustine says.

Obama's challenge was to empower the impoverished residents of Altgeld Gardens and turn them into political players. But older members of the group were skeptical of the 23-year-old Columbia University graduate.

"How was this kid gonna be any help to them?" says Gerry Kellman, who hired Obama.

But over time, Obama earned their trust and figured out how to make those voices heard.

"What Barack had to do was instill confidence in those folks," Kellman says.

Then there was a crucial meeting: A representative from the mayor's office tried to take over — and suddenly the South Side activist rose up.

"From the back of the room came Barack's voice, and he says, 'We want to hear from Loretta. Let Loretta talk,'" Augustine recalls. "And in that instant, he changed the meeting and focused right back on our agenda."

Today, still surrounded by 53 toxic waste dumps, Altgeld Gardens is often called "the toxic donut." In 1967, Augustine's 6-year-old daughter died of leukemia — which she's convinced was caused by toxic waste. Yet no one was listening to the people in the neighborhood.

"We found out there was a secret meeting in South Chicago on this issue and we had been excluded," she says.

Obama and 300 community members marched to that secret meeting.

"You cannot leave the community out of the process. It was so powerful," Augustine says.

Most people stayed in that job for four months. Obama continued to fight for four years, cutting his teeth on community activism. — the first measure of his leadership skills that are now being tested on a much larger stage.

"Barack came here very idealistic, and he left much more practical," Kellman says.

"He left, but he didn't leave us," adds Augustine. "We claim him."

The country is drifting from its historic path to an uncharted territory. One can restart the cold war with a nuclear nation and the other could stop the flow of most of the world’s petroleum that could send the world into an economic recession and ciaos. Filling some of the vast voids at the 2004 Democratic convention were repeated media references to Bill Clinton as the true savior of the Democratic Party. This myth has been one of the most destructive forces within the party. Here are some of the facts:

Bill Clinton got 43.9% of the vote in 1992, while Michael Dukakis - the victim of another myth as the purportedly worst possible sort of candidate - got 45%. True Clinton was up against Ross Perot who got 19% as well as Bush, but Clinton might well have lost were it not for Perot, in which case he would have joined Michael Dukakis in the hall of shame. Clinton won a majority in only two state-like entities: Arkansas and DC. In only 12 other states was he able to get ever 45%. Dukakis, meanwhile, got over 50% in 11 states and got over 45% in 12 others.

Here's what happened to the Democrats under Clinton, based on our latest figures:

GOP seats gained in House after Clinton became president: 48

GOP seats gained in Senate after Clinton became president: 8

GOP governorships gained after Clinton became president: 11

Even though Obama found a new position to not take Lobbyist money, ONLY during his Presidential campaign…and yet has raised over 85K from Lobbyists, at least Hillary doesn't allow those Lobbyists or Corporate donors to influence her VOTE LIKE OBAMA DOES.

Obama voted for the Cheney Energy Bill in 2005, Hillary did not.

Obama voted NO to cap interest rates to financial institutions to protect citizens from loaners in gouging and predatory lending. HILLARY VOTED YES to Cap interest rates.

Obama is in favor of Nuclear Plants, and was one of the first to sign on to Liebermans Nuke Bill, besides the obvious upthread Energy Bill he supported (Exelon, 6th largest Nuclear plant has contributed over 250K to Obama)

AND

Obama tried TWICE to push a Lobbyist Back Liquified Coal Bill that would have used MILLIONS of tax payer dollars to fund this programs that would have added so much Global Warming Pollution, environmentalists were screaming for 6 months for him to pull it, until it lost support in June 2007.
