I don't agree with the Obama campaign's decision to send these mailers out, because they do appear to be negative, and go against what the spirit of the campaign is. But compared to the spurious attacks from Clinton, all I can say is "live by the sword, die by the sword." Obama's mailers are no where near as negative and untruthful as Clinton's have been. Clinton also does not do a good job of talking out of both sides of her mouth. In the debate, she said she was honored to be on the stage with Obama. Now she compares him to George W. Bush. Either she was lying about being honored by Obama, or she thinks Bush is honorable. I can't tell which perspective is the lie. Her campaign anymore is looking like a Janus, and if she's not careful, she may wind up looking like Medusa. At any rate, every move she makes now she ends up revealing her true character as that of a liar. So sad.

I think we have seen back to back 19 debates on these candidates, read as much as we can on these candidates. watched MSNBC, CNN, Youtube. American people have seen these candidate in and out. These fliers on healthcare will not make any difference at this point. We all know both disagree on their healthcare policies. Mandat Universal healtcare for Clinton vs Affordable healcare cost for adults (but mandate healtcare plan for Kids) for Obama.

The only thing that scares me in Clinton's press conference is the tone.... The Texas debate is still fresh in our memories in the way she moved us at the end of the debate... the emotion, the goosebumps, the mother that seems to care about us.
And suddenly, the mood shift this morning... and the language content.

I think the only thing I can get from her comments is that she now knows the nomination is slipping away from her.

In light of today's events I have come to realize that Hillary Clinton is everything she says she is not. How do you attack Obama on his healthcare plan and then scold him when he attacks you on yours. There is a fundamental difference between the 2 - 1 is to mandate (senator clinton's) and one is to not (senator obama's) by definition mandate means to to put something basically into law which the law needs to be enforced so by mandating healthcare she will need to reprimend those who do not abid by the law.

There is nothing inaccurate about his mailer that simply points that out.

Well folks instead of being consumed with emotion because we support one candidate over another let's try to look at this situation in pragmatic terms.

Is this a NEW mailing just shot out after the debate? NO. Is this mailing in slanderous and in violation of Federal Laws which govern this types of campaign materials? NO

HRC claims 35 years of 'EXPERIENCE', therefore everyone get out your calculators and do the math, Was NAFTA enacted within the last 35 Years? OMG - YES!!! Was a Clinton involved in its being established? DING DING DING!!! Yes!

Then Rush out and get her book and read it to find out what her opinion was at the time... pause... She thought it was a POSITIVE part of HER husband’s administration. Since she was NOT an elected politician at the time, I guess she can now find fault with it and say she is going to fix it.

Now the fact is that take her vote as an elected official for the Iraq war, her change in stance on NAFTA and the poor management of her campaigns finances and GOSH for an EXPERIENCED politician she either is a slow learner or has poor judgment. These inconsistencies should make everyo9ne pause and think, what evidence is there that her Universal Health Care plan will be any better?

It is apparent that because there has been no missteps in the Obama campaign that she and her staff can latch on to, that DRAMA is needed in order to stay in the limelight as March 4th draws nearer.

Sadly she has to contend with the attention grabbing McCain situation and therefore her SUDDEN realization that this mailer was out there gave her a drama moment. If this suddenly came to her attention, given that the Ohio vote is forthcoming and she has an 'Experience' staff supporting her, what kinds of delay can we imagine would occur in her administration if she were elected? And, we were spiraling into some abyss in terms of competition with other countries. This guy is getting a little too full of himself. This 'outrage' is manufactured. These are not new mailers, and the Clinton campaign has been well aware of them for a while. The mailer is factually correct.

Hillary Clinton supported NAFTA until she flip-flopped at the beginning of this campaign. Hillary Clinton supports a health care mandate that will penalize Americans who can't afford whatever deal is hammered out with the Health Insurance industry.

Hillary's campaign wants to have their cake and eat it too - they've tried to smear Obama (see: 'xerox' comment, lies about the 'present' votes in the IL legislature) to no avail, and this is just one of the last, dull arrows in a *very* desperate campaign's quiver - a thinly veiled attempt to mount an offensive going into the last democratic debate of the race.

The voters of Ohio and Texas will see through this sad, last gasp of a losing campaign on March 4th.

The reality on the healthcare proposals:

We ALREADY have universal health care. It is just being run inefficiently and in a fiscally unsound manner. Anyone who is sick can go to an emergency room and get care at an exorbitant price. If they are not "covered" then the taxpayers pay anyway.

Fiscal conservatives should applaud any system that offers a low-cost option for health care as it will SAVE money, not COST money.

As a result of people using the ER has a primary care facility, ERs are going out of business and the health care system is being harmed.

Allowing either campaign to make the healthcare debate a key debate is silly. Clinton is pushing it to scare people/create differentiation where this is little and Obama is pushing it because Clinton is pushing it. Both effectively want the same thing.

Regardless, NO plan will matter unless it can be pushed through. Clinton has tried and failed because the Clinton's have so much political baggage and several sworn enemies who will oppose ANYTHING they propose. (sad, but true)

One or both of the following must happen for the slate of democratic plans(including healthcare) to succeed: The democratic candidate must win and the congress must be democratic AND sufficiently so to assure passage of a bill over Republican objections.

The simple truth is that Obama has pulled millions of new voters into the system. Those millions will vote democratic in their congressional races. Obama leads in general election polls. Clinton does not.

So, both of the required steps for achieving a healthcare plan (presidency, congress) are MORE likely with an Obama nomination.

I have no doubt that this is the way both candidates see each others policies. And actually they are both right to some extent, but not totally.

The point drop earlier about the 9 point change is a good example of what Clinton is doing in order to gain some of the momentum back. Obama does this as well but he is perceived a little more smooth at accomplishing the feat. This is classic politics and no matter what politician you pick this applies.

The Clintons do not deserve any credit for the budget surpluses in the 1990s. First of all, the surpluses he claimed to have in his budget proposals during the 1992 elections were completely fraudulent, reminiscent of Reagan's "voodoo economics." Every independent study of them showed that to be the case, and Clinton himself as forced to admit it less than 2 weeks into office.

But the budgets surpluses in the 90's were the direct result of the booming 90's economy, which had absolutely nothing to with the Democratic administration at the time, the Republican administration that preceded it, or either party in Congress at any time. The 90's economy was 100% the product of a technological revolution the likes of which we hadn't seen in 100 years. The internet boom-- and nothing else-- gave us budges surpluses in the 90's. The .com bust-- and nothing else-- brought them back down. The Iraq war, of course, has since sent the deficit off the charts, but that's another story.

Hillary has been taking credit for everything that went right in the 90's regardless of whether she, her husband, or anyone else deserves credit for it, but she has avoided responsibility for anything and everything that went wrong.

Hillary Clinton was on board with NAFTA and I'm sure there are any number of video clips available showing her pointing to it as an accomplishment of the Clinton administration.

She also has said herself that her health care mandate might mean garnishing wages of those who don't comply. She has not gone into detail about just what average people could expect in the way of subsidies to make it affordable nor how her plan would address systemic causes of the high cost of our health care system.

Without ways to lower those costs dramatically, her plan will leave many of us avoiding health care as much as possible because of the high out of pocket costs which, in turn leads to a system of expensive treatments and procedures after we've already become really sick instead of much less expensive routine health maintenance.

Hillary's sudden rage over either of these mailers, which hardly just turned up, is just another stab at a better strategy. With all the pundits talking about how she seemed to be on the verge of a graceful exit after her gracious concluding statement at the close of the last debate, her campaign probably decided they needed to dispel that notion.

Overnight, she goes from being honored to appear on the same stage with Obama to outrage over mailings she surely knew about before the debate. Will it help? Probably not. In fact the contrast between the calm collected Obama and the ranting Hillary hardly works to her advantage. Especially since she throws plenty of mud herself, much of it not terribly fact based.

In regard to Senator Clinton's thoughts about not changing for change's sake, if you watch "The War Room"--a documentary about the 1992 Clinton Campaign, you will notice in one spot that then President George Herbert Walker Bush said of then Governor Clinton's promises of change that you can't be for change for changes sake.
I find it interesting that Senator Clinton would echo the former president Bush's line of reasoning which he used against the hopeful, optimistic candidacy of her husband in the 1992 presidential election. It makes it appear that when she supported her husband's call for change it was the reasonable thing to do, but somehow when Senator Obama, of whom in the last debate she: 1. Noted how much she fundamentally agreed with him on almost every issue, and 2.Gave such a glowing report of during the closing moments of the debate speaks of hope and change his word are hallow and his supporters are--in contrast to her in the 92' election-- being unreasonable. I would be very happy for someone to explain what appears to be an inconsistency. Senator Clinton's campaign has my permission to email me with an explanation.

I am astonished that there are even a few people left who are still allowing themselves to be deceived by the Clintons. It was obvious to me, the first time I heard Bill Clinton speak, and then was further reinforced by his behavior during his presidency, that he is a sociopathic narcissist. He is able to lie without shame, remorse or deception, which are the most obvious signs of his inherent personality disorder. Hillary, is even more explicit in her deviant, self-serving behaviors and retoric. If one would just stand back, from all her drama, (that has clearly been poised to draw attention away from the true facts in her political agendas,) and observe how she has already been manipulating the American Public, just during the short time of these primaries, you could not help but discern her true nature. She has altered her appearence, her attitudes and even her basic political beliefs since the beginning of this campaign, to serve her ascendency into the White House. Bill Clinton did exactly the same. I was proud to hear Barack insightfully point out, at the 2nd to last debate, that she was "being so agreeable, that she had seemingly changed her political platform to conform to his". I have been reading opinions in the news, that state that Hilary and Barack essentially agree on all the major issus. Initially, if you can remember, and get out of the fog of her confusing, dramatic ramblings, their policies were dramatically different. Barack has not changed his originally posited beliefs on the major issues of this election. However, she certainly has. I feel like I am experiencing deja vu, with another Clinton administration. Another question that continues to arise for me, is from whence did all "her experience" arise. Was she running our Country during the 1990's, or was Bill. I thought they had "reined her in" to appear more like a First "LADY". Again, Barack so astutely pointed out, that she wrote or made the decisions to back the major legislature that was initiated during the Bill years. ( I never worried who would be wearing the "pant suits" if she was elected president.) Lastly, I will remind you, of her failed attempts to "take over the health care system," as soon as Bill became President. Are you aware that she forbid any Doctor, not even One doctor, from sitting in on her private discussions with her appointed staff, during her planning to develop a Health Care System. Can you even begin to imagine what our already fractured health care system would be like if it was framed and directed by lawyers, politicians and CEO's of Insurance Companies. Do you also remember the retroactive Tax that she was responsible for imposing as soon as Bill took office, and her promise, during one of her debates, to raise taxes "as soon as she is President"!Her malignent narcission prevents her from recognizing her contradictions, her obvious impostering and her plethora of falsehoods that she levies upon us Americans,(unfortunately, her poor staff, not only have been able to clearly observe her true nature, but they have had to live with it as well.) As Barack so eloquently stated, "This is not about being a Democrat or a Republican", (and I will add, it's not about being a woman or an African American,) "it's about being an American." One obvious thing took place in the last debate in Texas, that people seem to somehow overlook is the indisputable fact that Hillary Clinton (whom it was she that seeks to debate Obama), side-stepped or would not dwell on the topical issues of:
1. Transparency and Accountability: the over three hundred million dollars she got and spent on pork in her home state as a pet project. Obama had explained his, an amount by far less than Clintons, and was also prepared to make copies available to the moderators of the debate; She also had the chance here to dispel or put to rest the issue of filing or declaring her tax returns in details, like Obama has done, but she failed to so do.
2.She was scurrilously in a great deal of hurry to get away from the issue of Super-delegates when this now essentially forms the bedrock of her campaign.
3.She did not address the issue of her voting for the war in Iraq at all as if that was mightily irrelevant: But chose to only conveniently concern herself with talking about ending the war in 6 months. She needs to apologize to the American people first for her bad judgment that has cost the country so much in terms of lives and money. This is certainly one of the reasons why the country is now experiencing recession considering the staggering amount in billions that America spends in Iraq,and supported by Clinton.

Okay, America, the beauty of the internet is that WE (ordinary citizens) can talk to each other across the states to hear what REALLY happened in the campaigns prior to today's fireworks, so that we can judge for ourselves what the REAL TRUTH is.
In question,today's allegations as Hillary claims she had no knowledge BEFORE today, when a supporter stuck these mailings in her hand, that Obama was circulating an ad campaign criticizing her universal health care plan, and we should all be enraged that one Democrat would stoop so low as to slam another Democrat's Universal HC Plan. Her anger seemed very genuin indeed. "Shame on you, Obama!" she scolds.

America, she's not being honest with us, and I can prove it if you read on.....

I live in Washington State and our caucus was held on February 9th. At least two weeks PRIOR to our caucus here (i.e. at the end of January), the first Democratic ad campaign that aired on our WA state channels was a Hillary ad accusing Obama of not wanting/believing in Universal HC because his plan would leave out 15 million people, meanwhile levelling the accusation that Obama wouldn't do all he could to help the American people like Hillary would. Hillary threw this "first punch" negativity slamming Obama's intentions and his plan.
Two days LATER,in response/defense against Hillary's "first punch", Obama aired his first ad on TV, depicting a couple sitting at a kitchen table discussing how they can't afford health insurance already,so how they will they ever afford an additional chunk taken out of their wages under Hillary's plan.(I recognized this same couple in the flyers Hillary held in her hand today--It's the same ad.) Obama ends the ad by saying that his plan promises affordable health care without penalties which would strain those who need help most. His ad never launched a personal attack on Hillary or her motives, just the mandated portion of her plan.
Then Hillary called "foul" to the WA newspapers, saying that Obama's ad was similar to the original ads against Universal HC while she and Bill were still in the White House. She then followed up with an even stronger negative ad against Obama stating that he wants to permanently kill Universal HC and accused him of not caring about the American people. Obama did NOT respond with another negative ad, but simply stated in his Seattle rally that he and Hillary had similar plans, but recommended different methods of implementation.

So my questions are these, America....if this same controversy over the very same ad had already played out here in WA state at the end of January, why all of Hillary's sudden indignation and "Shame on you, Obama" comments now,claiming she had just barely seen these ads when a "supporter shoved these mailings into her hand" today? And why point Democrats' outrage solely at Obama for slamming another candidate's universal healthcare when she was doing exactly that prior to Feb 9th, throwing the "first punch" of negative ads. Obama is telling the truth when he says that she knew about these ads weeks ago, and he questions the "Why Now?" of her vehement anger to the cameras today.
Even more importantly, she was given several chances during the last debate in Texas to look straight into Obama's eyes and confront him about this ad campaign specifically, to tell him to his face that she didn't think he was ready to be president,to say she was sick of his speeches, etc. and she didn't do it. It was only after the moderators of the debate refused to "let her off the hook" about her negative attacks/remarks about plagerism that we got that lame Xerox comment. Next, she says she's honored to be on the stage with him, but two days later she is "calling him out" to meet her in Ohio when she wouldn't confront him in Texas

C'mon America. We're smarter than falling for this, aren't we? Let's keep these email blogs going between states so that we can keep finding the REAL truth.
Sorry, Hillary--I'm not buying today's act and neither should the American people. You just lost my vote.

Pretty erratic behavior by a campaign in disarray. Seems completely like they are trying to determine how to end this thing, whether negative or not. It is sad to see her come down to this. I wish the campaign was going to be active on 4/22 in PA, but this pretty much shows the end. Why does Obama believe he has the corner on change? It's a part of everyone's life. We make mistakes, we learn from them, and we make adjustments. I thought this was called change.

President Clinton had the courage to try opening NA borders to free trade. At the time, his party had his back. Why isn't Obama criticizing his DFL pals that supported NAFTA? Did someone twist their arms and force them to pass that legislation? He continues to cut the hands that feed him. Simply because they didn't get it right the first time, doesn't mean the idea is wrong.

Hillary clearly states she wants to amend NAFTA. We have a great opportunity to get it right this time. So, taking foward direction and CHANGING something is NOT okay unless it comes from the great and mighty Obama?

He's overplaying the mandate because he knows it has a negative connotation. I agree with Hillary's plan. I don't want the tab for the uninsured. She can quantify and define her plan without his hijacking it in the public eye.

Hillary would need to take credit for ordering Marines stationed at the White House to remove their uniforms because they were "offensive".

Hillary would have to take credit for her husband's impeachment and her questionable judgment for remaining loyal to him out of preserving her own political future.

The list can go on so do you really want to use that logic?

Why is it that Obama gets to make the rules as he goes? At the debates he preeches one thing and on the trail he is doing another. If Clinton says anything in regards to his policies or approach, then she is going negative, even if it is true. It was Clinton's signature accomplishment, besides balancing the budget, by throwing all the women and children off of welfare. She wants to claim credit for the years as first lady, she has to take credit for NAFTA and Welfare Reform as well. Those two things have devastated the poor and working people of this country. The points of the mailers are that:

1) Hillarycare "covers everyone" by passing a law requiring everyone to buy health insurance. Hillary has been blasting Obama's plan for "leaving 15 million people out", which is based on someone's guess as to what the lack of mandated insurance might result in.

As an aside: Hillary has said that her plan is like Social Security, everyone has to participate. Well, even that isn't factually correct. Anyone who isn't earning wage income doesn't participate in Social Security, so the unemployed and TRUST FUND MILLIONAIRES are not required to participate in Social Security. Someone living off of lottery winnings or income from an inheritance is ipso facto not a Social Security participant. Income from any source other than a job isn't part of the Social Security system. Social Security is paid for by a tax on work and it is in fact a highly regressive tax in that it hits the working poor and working middle class the hardest. Even work related income over $97,500 per year is exempt from the Social Security tax.

2) Hillary and Bill have both promoted "free trade" for their entire time in Washington including NAFTA. Ramping up trade with China was another of the signature "Clinton Accomplishments". Most of the working class in this country has come to feel that unfettered "free" trade is doing them more harm than good. The facts of Hillary's support for NAFTA are clearly on the record, and her dodge that she wasn't in the Senate when it passed is absurd in face of her "35 years" claim.

Finally, which Hillary is running? The shrill Catholic school nun thundering "shame on you" or the adoring fan saying "I'm proud to be here with Barack Obama"? Which one, if either, is the real Hillary Clinton?

Try visiting http://thomas.loc.gov/home/thomas.html and look at the ACTUAL record of each candidate rather than getting yourself caught in the middle of the media races.. You may be surprised to know that Barack Obama is rallying cosponsors to address issues on a broader and complete dynamic than most other senators. In addition, you may also be surprised to learn about the bills he's got that address many more issues that impact Americans and global society in a positive manner.

If he was a fake or, what he believes in is just a fairy tale, then why is he currently in hot pursuit to address many of the issues? And it's not like he IS the American president; he's still trying to help our country, econonmics, people, foreign affairs and the global situation as a Senator!

Here is a person that has made up his mind to commit his efforts to the people... It would appear that he's going to keep trying to do whatever he can for us whether he makes president or not. It's in his heart and it is the foundation of his ambition. As the Washington Post wrote, "Judge him by his Laws" and I will add, judge him by his record and concerns.

For example, HRC enacted a bill to have Lead Paint removed from homes as to protect children. Thats fine but, on a broader scope, lead paint is on toys and many other things that can harm children even outside of your homes. Barack Obama, having two children of his own, viewed this as being a larger problem than just your homes; he enacts a bill to protect children from lead paint on a broader scale. This would include your home, toys, etc. Children just shouldn't be exposed to lead paint under ANY circumstance! One of these bills seems to be vague and one seems to address the overall issue. Which would YOU decide upon? In doing research, you can find out MANY pros and cons to the candidate and what their true concerns are and HOW they plan on addressing issues. Children are children; innocent lives that SHOULDN'T be affected by things like this. Whether they are your children or someone elses child somewhere else, to address the foundation of the problem means NO ONES children will have to suffer from this! I agree with HIS approach because it isn't selfish nor is it limited in such a nature that is outcasts certain people while valuing others; it helps as many as it can reach! This stands virtually the same with many of his other bills.

People seem to condemn a person by the media and not make the effort to understand the true concerns of the people. It's not saying the Hillary doesn't have good ideas or support realistic bills; its saying that a bill that is written to help some and eliminate others is a bill yet to be admired because it is favorable. We don't need this sort of bias in our bills. They need to help everyone whether you are the "status quo" or a regular blue collar worker and Barack Obama's bills do not alienate anyone!

It has become evident that we are dealing with a woman with a split personality. We never know which one we will get. One minute she is very combative and rude, the next minute she is passionate and calm. When she, on rare occasions, shows the calmer compassionate side, people ask the question "why don't we see more of the real Hillary?" Well, that is because the calm, compassionate side is not the real Hillary Clinton.

What the voters should ask themselves is, do we want someone as our President that is up one minute and down the next. She could be on one of those high moods and lead us into another war or make decisions that will harm the people.

This woman has all the characteristic of being bipolar. We certainly do not need anyone leading our nation with that problem. A person can be on medication for bipolar, but stress will bring out those moods regardless. Being President is a very stressful situation. She will not be able to act and think calmly to make rational decisions. Look how upset and irate she gets now when things aren't going her way or when she hears something that she doesn't like. Her supporters and the media think she wins the debates because she bucks her eyes, points her finger and is so animated. I think you win any argument or debate when you show grace, style and class and still get your point across. Obama maintain class and style at all times. He has encountered more negative attacks from her and team but still he rise.

When she showed that fake irate attitude this weekend about those flyers, which by the way were truthful, she is the one that is trying to dupe the people, does she honestly think the people do not know the truth about NAFTA and her stance on healthcare. I sympathize for you and I know how you must feel with all of this propaganda constantly whipping about. I am not a legally appointed advocate for political education however, my occupation often rides parallel to many political issues.

If I may, I recommend visiting the Thomas (i.e., Thomas Jefferson)The Library of Congress (http://thomas.loc.gov/home/thomas.html - in the center of the page it entitles you to search on the specific candidate) and look over the records of each candidate. The issues they take concern in and the showing of co-sponsors will give you an idea of the issues the candidates are truly concerned about and what have they done to pursue getting that bill to legislature. It is probably beter to make yourself knowledgeable of this and similar processes so it can help you to keep a clear view of the candidates rather than a lot of the hype.

Maria, now thats not true. I am certain that the average African American is smart enough to do their research and come to a sensible vote just like anyone else. For example, Al Sharpton ran for President and he didn't get that much support from either community. If African Americans were caught up in the "spin," they would have done the same for previous elections where African Americans were on the ballot. On the front of the four-page NAFTA mailer appears a headline saying, "Hillary Clinton believed NAFTA was 'a boon' to our economy." But in fact, Clinton never used the word "boon" to describe the effects of the trade agreement on the U.S. economy, and it's not clear she ever said anything like that.

The Obama mailer quotes a New York newspaper article that ran during her 2006 Senate reelection campaign. Two reporters for the Long Island daily Newsday gave brief descriptions of her stands on a number of issues, including this:

Newsday, Sept. 11, 2006: HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON: Clinton thinks NAFTA has been a boon to the economy, but voted against the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement, saying it would drive jobs offshore.

The day after the mailer surfaced, another Newsday reporter, Dan Janison, conceded that the newspaper didn't get that from Clinton or her campaign.

Newsday's Dan Janison, Feb. 14: The word ["boon"] was our characterization of how we best understood her position on NAFTA, based on a review of past stories and her public statements. ... We do not have a direct quote indicating her campaign told us she thought it was good for the economy at that time.

We frankly find Clinton's past position on NAFTA to be ambivalent. Bloomberg News reported last year that Clinton "promoted her husband's trade agenda for years." Bloomberg quoted her at the 1998 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as praising corporations for mounting "a very effective business effort in the U.S. on behalf of Nafta,'' and adding, "It is certainly clear that we have not by any means finished the job that has begun."

On the other hand, Clinton biographer Sally Bedell Smith says Clinton privately argued against NAFTA inside the White House and was "not very much in favor of free trade." In an interview with Tim Russert on MSNBC last year she said:

Sally Bedell Smith, Oct. 27, 2007: And Hillary was really prepared to try and kill NAFTA. [Special Trade Representative] Mickey Kantor had to take her out ... behind the White House, sat her down on a bench, and said, we have to go first with NAFTA. We can come back to health care later, but we have to do NAFTA because we need a success and we need a bipartisan success. And he was absolutely right. And what convinced her at the time was not necessarily the merits of NAFTA, but the fact that it was a good political decision.

So, even then, she was not very much in favor of free trade. And so she is consistent. And Bill Clinton continues to be. So, if they were both in the White House together, I wouldn’t want to be in the middle of that little fight.

We could find no direct quote from Clinton praising NAFTA's economic effects. The Obama campaign cites a 1996 United Press International article as saying that Clinton on a trip to Brownsville, Texas, said NAFTA "would reap widespread benefits in the region." But that's a paraphrase, not a direct quote, so it's not clear to us exactly what she said on that trip.

Earlier, she was criticized by pro-NAFTA forces for a lack of support. In 1993 pro-NAFTA executive Gary R. Edson of Ameritech Corp. complained publicly of a "deafening" silence from Hillary Clinton during the fight to gain Congressional approval:

And about the same time, a National Journal reporter quoted pro-NAFTA lobbyists as complaining that Hillary was undermining efforts to get the trade pact approved out of fear that pushing for it would alienate supporters of the administration's health care proposal. The headline: "If NAFTA's Bogging Down, Is Hillary to Blame?"

We take no position here on whether NAFTA is a boon to the economy or a detriment, and note only that there are plenty of arguments on both sides. We do judge that the Obama campaign is wrong to quote Clinton as using words she never uttered, and it has produced little evidence that she ever had strong praise of any sort for NAFTA's economic benefits.

Did Hillary Clinton Really Support NAFTA? Aides, Say No

As the 2008 campaign shifts to economically hard-hit states like Ohio, so too do the topics of political debate. This week, Sen. Barack Obama's campaign has attacked Sen. Hillary Clinton on trade, arguing that she was once a supporter of the North American Free Trade Agreement that contributed to the loss hundreds of thousands of American jobs.

"A little more than a year ago," an Obama mailer reads, "Hillary Clinton thought NAFTA was a 'boon' to the economy." The piece goes on to argue that the New York Senator is "changing her tune" now that she's campaigning in the Buckeye State.

The attack is, most observers say, misleading. The "boon" line, a paraphrase lifted from a September 2006 Newsday article, has yet to be confirmed as an authentic quote. But, more importantly, the mailer misrepresents what former Clinton administration officials and biographers say was Hillary Clinton's long-held opposition to the legislation.

"In August in 92, we had to make a decision," Mickey Kantor the former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Clinton adviser, and free trade advocate recalled for the Huffington Post. "President Clinton had to make a decision as governor, whether or not he would support [George H.W. Bush's] NAFTA, and of course he did... Hillary Clinton was one of the great skeptics in the discussion as to whether he should do. So she was always skeptical beginning in 1992 and onward."

Indeed, as Kantor went on to note, Hillary Clinton long held reservations over the labor and environmental fallouts of the free trade agreement. In addition, she was, at the time, eager to see her health care reform (not NAFTA) pushed through Congress. As such, Clinton biographer Sally Bedell Smith writes in her book "For Love of Politics," her disapproval of the trade agreement was both political and philosophical.

The economic team and other key advisors, including Mack McLarty, Mickey Kantor, and David Gergen, were likewise urging Bill to use his momentum to push or congressional ratification of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)...Liberal Democrats, including Hillary, opposed it primarily because it could take jobs away from American workers. But as an advocate of global economic cooperation, Bill was drawn to its free-trade philosophy.
It fell to Mickey Kantor, the U.S. Trade Representative responsible for implementing NAFTA, to reason with Hillary. One day in August, he sat her down on a bench behind the White House and tried to strike a compromise. "I said, 'If you want to drop NAFTA, we can kill it, but we shouldn't,'" Kantor recalled. "I said, 'The way to do it is to introduce health care, spend a month on it, and then do NAFTA, then go back to health care.'" With misgivings, Hillary acquiesced to the proposed sequence.

Carl Bernstein, another Clinton biographer, echoed much the same tale during a recent appearance on CNN.

"'Bill,'" he recalled Hillary Clinton as saying, "'you are doing Republican economics when you are doing NAFTA.' She was against NAFTA. And if she would somehow come out and tell the real story of what she fought for in the White House and failed in a big argument with her husband she would end up moving much closer to those [John] Edwards followers."

So why didn't we hear such protests from Hillary Clinton during her husband's administration?

She attacks Obama and then screams if he attacks her. She isn't getting ahead by being a strong leader so drops a few tears for the sympathy votes. She changes her position to suit the need for more votes. It appears that she is riding on her husbands coattails, taking credit for the good he accomplished and yet, no matter what she says, if it's not good she either denies it, says she will fix it, ignores/refuses to answer the question, claims the men are picking on her or changes the subject.

Please compare Obama's mailers (totally accurate as to health care, by Clinton's own statement, and accurate on NAFTA, by her own statements in her book and elsewhere) and the two that Clinton has been sending out on Social Security (saying his proposal would take more money from middle class and seniors - not true) and pro-choice (saying his 7 'present' votes did not support a woman's right when in fact those votes were made *at the request of* Ill. Planned Parenthood). Do you want the candidate that continues to focus on the campaign and the voters or the one who throws a hissy-fit when she sees unflattering, but true, statements? Karl Rove's #1 rule: hit your opponent at their strength and your weakness. She is doing just this in attacking Obama's integrity in running his campaign. He has shown integrity all along, and she has taken the low, ugly road since Iowa. Hillary Clinton is passive/aggressive borderline Bipolar. I'm not saying it negative, but the mood swings that I've seen are indicative of her behavior.

Obama supported NAFTA as a Chicago activist in 1993. Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Tom Daschle all voted for NAFTA in 1993. Hillary Clinton argued against NAFTA with husband Bill in White House, but as First Lady or any administration member you did not publicly state your personal opinions if it was an opposing opinion. Ask David Gergen, Carl Bernstein or Richard Shapiro, they have documentation on all the facts about Hillary's true opinion about the negative affects of NAFTA on our economy and how she wants to fix it now.
Another lie on these posts is the one about Obama providing Health Care Plans in Illinois. As a resident of Illinois who did vote for Obama for the Senate, we fell for his promises of hope and change, his big wide smile of friendship across the aisle. Well folks, we are still waiting. Ask the African American Black residents who are still waiting for their neighborhoods to get cleaned up and crime rates to go down and the slumlords to leave their neighborhoods. Ask them if they are satisfied with Obama's record as their savior to get them out of poverty and their children off of drugs and stop the killing's in their schools. No one has ever mentioned Obama's failing record as Illinois' Senator who made promises not kept. Who let Nuclear waste go unregulated and contaminate out water supplies and let thousands of jobs leave Illinois for Mexico. He did let the corporations of Exelon and Maytag who owned the Nuclear plant and the Maytag plant to donate to his campaigns. He did let slumlord Rezko continue to rent to African Americans who cannot afford to live anywhere else and did purchase a million dollar home from Rezko for $300,000 less than market value. Now if you want to put your hopes and dreams in the hands of Obama, be my guest, but I am no longer waiting for him to make good on his promises. Fool me once, do not fool me twice. I am going to take my chances on another candidate who will be CHANGE. A WOMAN FOR PRESIDENT AFTER 43 MEN IS CHANGE FOLKS! The men have not done such a Great Job so Far, so I will vote for Hillary Clinton, a BIG CHANGE from what we have had.
