*** Crashing the party: By announcing yesterday on Meet the Press that he’s making another White House bid, Ralph Nader crashed a party where -- at least on the Democratic side -- everyone

First thoughts: Party crasher

Wow, what was all that? Hillary’s campaign needs to settle on a persona here. They’ve been arguing about these flyers for weeks. How did we go from being honored to be on the same stage to shame on you with hardly a breath in between? I guess we’re back to the feisty political infighter Hillary, which seems to work pretty well with loyalists.

Here’s a link to a good objective discussion of the Obama health care flyer that has drawn Hillary’s newfound wrath. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/harry_louise_again.html
This site is a good resource when you want to escape the spin room. While they don’t find any untruths, there are plenty of errors of omission in the flyer designed to emphasize differences rather than further the interest of fairness. Surprise, it’s a political mailer. To me, the main difference in plans is that a blanket imposition of government mandates will be a tougher sell to folks on the other side of the aisle. And make no mistake; it will have to be sold to a solid majority of the American people if we are to get past entrenched interests. But that’s primarily a difference in strategy, not in substance.

Basically the flyers in question are standard political fare and certainly don’t stoop to the Rovian level Hillary was talking about. Her own campaign has already done worse. To me, the relevant part of her argument is the idea that these sorts of business-as-usual political tactics violate the fundamental principles of a campaign that aims to change the way we conduct politics. I think that is a legitimate criticism and worth discussing.

Notice the clever trap here. On the one hand Barack’s supporters are portrayed as naïve political newcomers who have been dazzled by pretty speeches and couldn’t possibly stand up to the nasty Republicans. If on the other hand we accept the proposition that Barack must conduct this campaign as though the job of transforming politics were already accomplished, we would in fact be guilty of acting like political neophytes. This is tricky territory to navigate because it comes dangerously close to an ends justifies the means argument.

If you don’t win the election the purity of your motives is utterly irrelevant. Ask the Green voters how all the causes they thought they were promoting in 2000 have fared under the Bush administration. We have to fight this battle on the political terrain as it exists today. If we win the fight then we will earn a chance to talk about leaving the old battlefield behind us. The trick for Barack is to get through the campaign without losing himself in the process. Barack himself seems pretty well grounded by his family, his church, and his community. I worry more about how we get through the primary without muddying the message. It’s an important message.
First thoughts: Party crasher

nafta is an excellent example of the corporate machine at work, everyone associated with this bill new it would be the end of good paying jobs with benefits in the u.s.a., but they took the money and ran, one of the most disgusting things about the clintons, they are not stupid, they intentionally make the wrong decisions for personal gain with complete disregard to the consequences for the american citizen, that is unacceptable and reprehensible in anybody's book.

First thoughts: Party crasher

Of course, neither Dem is calling for cancelling the trade agreement.

Of course not.....
Then The Clinton's win Ohio, but lose Texas.....
Hillary can flap her gums all she wants to about NAFTA. If she had any brains, she would be in the Senate today calling foran end to NAFTA. But she could care less about people losing jobs in Ohio.

At a Houston rally Saturday night, Clinton joked about a sign in the crowd that read, "The White House is no place for training wheels." Special interests In January, the Obama campaign described union contributions to the campaigns of Clinton and John Edwards as "special interest" money. Obama changed his tune as he began gathering his own union endorsements. He now refers respectfully to unions as the representatives of "working people" and says he is "thrilled" by their support.

2. Public financing Obama replied "yes" in September 2007 when asked if he would agree to public financing of the presidential election if his GOP opponent did the same. Obama has now attached several conditions to such an agreement, including regulating spending by outside groups. His spokesman says the candidate never committed himself on the matter.

3. The Cuba embargo In January 2004, Obama said it was time "to end the embargo with Cuba" because it had "utterly failed in the effort to overthrow Castro." Speaking to a Cuban American audience in Miami in August 2007, he said he would not "take off the embargo" as president because it is "an important inducement for change."

4. Illegal immigration In a March 2004 questionnaire, Obama was asked if the government should "crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants." He replied "Oppose." In a Jan. 31, 2008, televised debate, he said that "we do have to crack down on those employers that are taking advantage of the situation."

5. Decriminalization of marijuana While running for the U.S. Senate in January 2004, Obama told Illinois college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use. In the Oct. 30, 2007, presidential debate, he joined other Democratic candidates in opposing the decriminalization of marijuana.

First thoughts: Party crasher

Everyone (especially Hillary supporters) should read Frank Rich's most recent column in the New York Times. Yes, I'm sure we're going to see responses to this post that slam Frank Rich but if those of you in Clintonian delusion land would start reading things other than her website, you might get a sense for what normal Americans are thinking.

First thoughts: Party crasher

You know, I had a comment . . . but jaycee from Ventura said it so well, there's no need to repeat!

:)

Obama '08

First thoughts: Party crasher

READ CARL BERSTEIN BOOK AND YOU WILL FIND THAT SHE AND HIM FOUGHT OVER NAFTA. My vote went to the best person to do the job. The Texas population numbers are as follows: Black 11.4%, Asian 3.3%, white 48.1% and hispanic 35.7% If we all voted along racial lines and needed 51%, no one would ever get elected. He could (and should have to) deal with a Nader candidacy just like Al did in 2000. (...and there are plenty of "Green" types out there who'll vote for Nader too). You people make "Pimp Daddy B" out as someone special who shouldn't be inconvenienced in any way shape or form.
By the way, if Al Gore had run for this year's nomination, "Pimp Daddy B" wouldn't have stood a chance.
#2) Hillary wasn't even in The Senate when NAFTA was passed. Once again, this is another area where "Pimp Daddy B" is full of 'ka-ka.'
#3)Clinton is changing tactics because being nice didn't work. "Pimp Daddy B" has campaigned negatively everywhere he's gone. She makes nice with him at last Thursday's debate, and in return he slaps her in the face by sending out flyers which misrepresent her position on multiple issues. Maybe it's time for the media to scrutinize "Pimp Daddy B" a little more. (HINT, HINT)
Hey, what's this I hear that Obama has ties to the people who were involved in the Brink's robbery a few years back? Bet we won't see anything about that on MSNBC's First Read, will we?
#4) Clinton is leading in Ohio, no matter how you 'spin' the polling data...get over it.
#5) Why would Clinton provide a photo to a website/news source (Drudge) that attacked her husband when he was President, and why would anybody bother to ask such a STUPID question? Did anyone ask Obama's campaign if they were the one's who pushed the New York Times to run the story about McCain, after they held it for four months? I'll try to help.
1. On the Obama Ohio mailer, I consider the mailer on NAFTA a bit misleading but not necessarily false as Clinton and Gov. Strickland argued. Go to http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obama_mailings_false.html.
2. On the mailings Hillary sent out attacking Obama, go to http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/youve_got_mailers.html I have said that her own mailer/ad attacks are almost always loaded with outright lies (PLEASE NOTE: The Fact Hub at Facts.hillaryhub.com is actually a part of Hillary's site and is NOT to be always trusted because it merely reflects the responses to Obama's mailers/ads from her campaign).
Now here's my take on the issue of who should be guilty of frequent fabricated facts:
Although Hillary defended her husband's signature of NAFTA and other trade agreements into law, I believe she should not be held responsible. But she must cease calling Obama's mailer on this particular issue 'false' and come out clean on what her positions on trade are. She has also done this by defending her Iraq vote rather than acknowledging or regreting what voters call 'mistakes'.
I will leave it up to voters to use their conscience and judge the issue of whether she is a hypocrite -- or Obama is a hypocrite -- by calling Obama's mailers entirely false while her own mailers have been deemed false. She cannot falsely attack while accusing Obama of outright fabrication, which I am not always able to prove. Obama's campaign has twisted facts a bit, but you have to understand that Hillary's own attacks in the form of mailers and ads are often loaded with fabricated allegations. And for fairness's shake, Obama has to do all he can to defend himself against a propaganda machine -- Hillary's persistent use of completely twisted facts and the GOP's and its allies' use of deceitful campaign tactics. You cannot expect change or preach hope under these circumstances. And when the candidate is fighting deceitful tactics, don't call him or her a hypocrite.

First thoughts: Party crasher
Since the NY Times ran a wonderful eight year old story on John McCain will they follow suit on Barack Obama?

We were treated to the Obama Girl, will we now be treated to the Obama Man - Larry Sinclair?

Bill O'Reilly alluded to Sinclair last week. I was originally an Edwards supporter before switching to Obama when he dropped out (and by the way I am a black male). It is funny how when Edwards was attacking NAFTA with the zeal that Clinton has, he was the angry candidate, but the same is not true for Clinton? Better yet how about screaming at the Camera and saying ‘shame on you and I expect more from you’ like Obama was her child? I mean how hypocritical to say I can mail and say anything I want, but you Mr. Obama should hold yourself up to a higher standard than I hold myself. Another Clinton saying do as I say not as I do!!!!!

3) This part of the campaign has done nothing more than show that Ohio, Pennsylvania and other rust belt states should be earlier in the primary calendar. Both candidates have taken a populist tone (although Hillary has stolen Mr. Edwards words) during this part of the Primary Cycle and it shows that Edwards message resonated much more than the elite news media ever wanted to let on. Maybe Ohio should be in Super Tuesday so that NAFTA and bad trade agreements have to be tackled earlier.
First thoughts: Party crasher

She could be asked if they are...but are they?

First thoughts: Party crasher

On January 24, the Obama campaign released a statement, saying, "To be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ in Chicago.

On March 14th, in a statement to The Times, the Obama campaign offered this statement to correct their previous statement, that appears to be a bold-faced lie:

"Obama has never been a practicing Muslim. The Democrats have been nudged back to the left of center and I credit Nader in bringing this change about. When I look at the Dean campaign of 04 and the Obama campaign, I see many similarities to Naders campaign in 2000. Sure the Dems are not pushing for Single-payer national healthcare or speaking out against some of the things that are standards of the Nader platform. However, there is a stark difference between what the Democratic front runners are saying this year vs. years past.

Obama is almost everything that Nader has always talked about needing in a presidential candidate. He rose from the grass roots working as an organizer and spoke out and supported much of the same issues a Nader. Sure Obama has either avoided or toned down some of his positions but I think that is understandable when your trying to reach a broad electorate.

Even Nader can see that the Democrats are poised to win easily and I agree that if they can't win this election that they will need to reinvent themselves. So I assume the only reason Nader is in this race is to make sure the Democratic nominee doesn't take a hard right turn to the middle as soon as they get the nomination.

I support Naders right to run, to debate and to be heard. I also support his right to be on the ballot without having to jump over the unfair hurdles placed out there by both of the major parties. However, this time I will not be supporting him with my vote. At this time Obama has that along with my time and money. Now if Hillary would somehow get the nomination then I would see no other choice and Nader would have my full support for the same reasons he has had my support in the past.
First thoughts: Party crasher

Actually, her biggest FLIP FLOP
Supporting the illegal and unjustified war in Iraq !
She supported the Bush/Clinton war in Iraq
Now, she says she's against it !!

SHAME ON YOU, HILLARY !!

From the Washington Post:

'...Top Clinton Flip-Flops

1. In a Jan. 15, 2008, Democratic debate in Las Vegas, she proposed to "start withdrawing" troops within 60 days of her inauguration, to bring out "one or two brigades a month" and to have "nearly all of the troops out" by the end of 2009.

4 . Driver's licenses for illegal immigrants In a campaign statement on Oct. 31, 2007, Clinton expressed support for a plan by New York Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer (D) to offer limited driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, after going back and forth on the matter in a televised debate. In a Nov. 15, 2007, televised debate from Nevada, she replied with a simple "no" when asked if she approved the driver's license idea in the absence of comprehensive immigration changes.

5. Florida and Michigan delegates In September 2007, the Clinton campaign formally pledged not to participate in primary or caucus elections staged before Feb. 5, 2008, in defiance of Democratic National Committee rules. She now says delegates from Florida and Michigan should be seated at the Democratic National Convention, despite their flouting of rules that all the major Democratic candidates endorsed.

First thoughts: Party crasher

HILLARY STATES I WAS NOT IN THE SENATE WHEN NAFTA PASSED.HILLARY WAS NOT IN THE SENATE WHEN THE SCHIP CHILDREN HEALTH INSURANCE FOR 6 MILLION CHILDREN PASSED EITHER,BUT HILLARY DOES WANT TO CREDIT FOR THAT ONE!

First thoughts: Party crasher

Fred ~ What's the matter guy? Afraid of a mixed-race man as President. You and Bill O. are obviously cut from the same cloth. Oh, by the way, Sinclair BADLY failed the lie-detector test. He's another racist lying piece of scum. Maybe God should strike all the racists blind. Then they wouldn't be able to make ignorant presumptions about others based on color. Sickening!

First thoughts: Party crasher

Hillary's 10 point approach;

1.a) I Served on the Board of UNION HATING Wal-Mart
1.b) But I am Pro Union.

2.a) I voted for the war in Iraq
2.b) But I am against Iraq War.

3.a) I Voted for Kyle-Lieberman to extent the war to Iran
3.b) But I will bring soldiers back home in 60 days.

4.a) I will provide universal health insurance
4.b) But I will force you to buy it to boost insurance company’s profits strengthening their grip on the country and encouraging your employer to drop its health benefits.

5.a) I Support NAFTA in southern Texas
5.b) But I oppose NAFTA in Ohio.

6.a) I am a strong fighter
6.b) But I cry and complain when I can’t win.

7.a) I can stand the republican heat
7.b) But I never actually have.

8.a) I am the most experienced candidate
8.b) But I have no clue how to run a presidential campaign, manage its money, stay on message, win a primary, win a caucus, control my supporters, or keep an even temper.

9.a) I hate Bush
9.b) But I try to copy his politics of fear and division and voted for most of his worst ideas because even though I say I can, I just can’t stand up to the Republicans because I’m obsessed with looking tough.

10.a) I am the most vetted candidate in the race
10.b) But, no I won't show you my tax returns.

First thoughts: Party crasher

J. The media has all but gotten on it's collective knees and kissed the man's rear end.
I don't know if anyone caught the opening skit on this past week's "Saturday Night Live."
It was both hilarious and TRUE.
In the skit, which was a take-off on Thursday night's CNN debate, Obama was asked questions by the panel such as "are you comfortable sir, can we get you anything to drink," and "did you get the (love) letter I taped to your front door."
While Hillary was asked tough political questions with anger and venom. Obama girl was allowed to stand up in the audience and sing, and when Hillary protested she was, of course, "smacked down" by the panel.
Now, this was just a comedy skit.
But the writers who dreamed it up obviously see what the rest of us are seeing too.
The media is SOFT on Obama and never questions him on what he's going to "change" or how he's going to change it. They allow him to get away with these rhetorical speeches that are generally about nothing, and they never press him for answers to hard policy questions.
Hillary has been quite sincere and truthful throughout the campaign. She's bent over backwards NOT to be negative and she is the one who has had to deal with the lies and the innuendo of BOTH the media and Obama.
So spare me the hearts and flowers for poor
"Pimp Daddy B" because this guy's been treated with kid gloves ever since his campaign started. She also does not want him to critize her on any of her views or her so called 35 years of experience. She is the one operating in la la land, (evident by the way she spent campaign funds.) Does she not get it? she is in a campaign? Or did she just think Obama was a push over candidate because he is younger and African American. Why did she wait for two weeks to respond to the flyer? I know why. Her campaign is so inept and disorganized, they did not know it was out there until some one at her speech showed it to her. Right now she is in total melt-down because she still cant comprehend what is happening to her. This was supposed to be a tea party for her, which means she is out of touch and behind the times.

First thoughts: Party crasher

About "experience": Being the wife of the President of the United States makes you no more or less experienced than being the son of the President of the United States.

If we are looking only at the work that HILLARY Clinton has done, her record is about the same as Obama's . . . she's been in the Senate longer, but he was an Illinois legislator for eight years prior to coming to the U.S. Senate, whereas Clinton had no ELECTED political service prior to her service in the U.S. Senate in 2000.

But, I digress . . . all of this back-biting and arguing is just leading Democrats away from the point: the party needs to come together if there is any chance to avoid having 4 more years of divisive Republican leadership. The polls show that Obama has the best chance of beating McCain. That's the reality.

First thoughts: Party crasher

fred c dobbs sierra madre, ca,

actually larry sinclair-- failed the lie detector test 2x this weekend--

remember larry wanted the test so badly-- but he failed

also-- larry lives in the hud housing for the mentally ill-- you can actually google his address

First thoughts: Party crasher

To Dave in Ark, your quote:
"NAFTA seems to be working just fine for the Clinton, I don't see what the problem is or why the people in OH keep belly-aching. Ohio will just have to learn to deal with it. So my advise would be for them to learn to live with it and quit screwing up Hillary's chances.
GO Hill."

You're right, NAFTA is working just fine for the Clintons, at least it was until they've been called to be accountable for the price that Americans have had to pay with all the jobs going to China because of it. And it doesn't just effect Ohio, but our whole country's economy. Your attitude that people should just not worry about unemployment in their state because their complains will mess up Hillary's chances, is exactly why people should not support Hillary Clinton.
America needs a candidate that that cares about the American people. That candidate is Barack Obama. We need a President who believes that the people know what they want, and doesn't talk down to them when they vote for what they want, that person is Barack Obama. We need a leader who believes that our country is capable of being even greater than we've ever been, who unites people across party lines, across racial lines, across economic lines, across gender lines, and across all the lines that we have used to divide each other here in the United States of America, that unifying, inspiring leader is Barack Obama!
Vote for Change! Every fascist / socialist regime has ridden into power on a wave of popular support driven by a desire for change, promised by an eloquent and charismatic leader (Germany, Italy, Cuba, Venezuela...). Too bad the emphasis in schools for the last 2-3 decades has been on propaganda (ie: mandatory viewings of "an inconvenient truth")and revisionist history, rather than FACT-based study of real history (there are still people alive who witnessed history and know the truth - the facts can be checked). Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. The scariest part is when someone promises change, but offers few details of exactly what those changes will entail (especially when history is taken into account, and when the few details that are provided offer glimpses of a very socialistic bent...a government that will look after and take care of its people - for their own good). Let's outlaw trans-fats and smoking, because the people are too stupid to make decisions on their own health; besides when society is communally providing for their health care, "the people" should have a right to dictate how individuals take care of themselves, right? The values and interests of the collective are more important than the rights of the individual - scary stuff!

First thoughts: Party crasher

I think Adam/NYC said it best.....

That quote alone should be printed and passed out at ALL Clinton rallies.....

J Merle...

Just like my guys fell all to the wayside....
Your girl is going down with them............
She better come up with a "called shot" that will make her more famous then Babe Ruth tomorrow night or it is over for The Clinton's....

I'm sure Barock Obama will cover chapter and verse for everything Hillary Clinton has to say to him tomorrow night on NAFTA......

It's OK for Hillary to go after Barock for his preschool essay on being President, but not OK for him to go after her on NAFTA.....

Something here does not make sense.....

Hillary Clinton.....
A woman for all quotes....

First thoughts: Party crasher

Patrick Casey. Negative reinforcement is not generally a compelling motivator for voters. E.g., Obama is the "hopeful" candidate; Hillary pounced on being the candidate *without* hope or optimism. Obama is the candidate of change; Hillary confusingly points to "change" (even with the current circumstances) as being undesirable. Obama is the candidate that challenges conventional wisdom; Hillary digs her heals in on the "mertis" of keeping to the dysfunctional and ineffective status quo. Hillary, you are a buck short of a dollar on common sense and appeal.

First thoughts: Party crasher

Well Bob if ya got the pic lets see em!! We want the world to see what ya are talking about BOB.
Did ya get em off the net while you were downloading your kiddie porn. Therefore, it's very easy for him to criticize someone who had to make that hard decision given the evidence that was presented to congress at the time. I wonder if he had been in congress if he would have made the same decision. It's very easy to be critical of a decision you didn't have to make!!

First thoughts: Party crasher

J. Over the last few months, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu and Christian Americans have been casting their votes for candidates. That's how a democracy works.

Obama happens to be a Christian who srongly disagrees with Farrakhan's positions. Now let's talk about our economy and instability in the Middle East.

First thoughts: Party crasher

Nader isn't the spoiler. If the Democrats and the Republicans don't appeal to the voters - then why shouldn't we have an alternative? Here's the MSM spinning things as usual: The dems are having fun and happy with their candidates??? - sure the idiots who follow Obamba and Clinton feel that way - but they don't have a clue how these insider phonies are going to do what they say - and who cares? - we haven't the money to pay for their stupid programs anyway.

As for NAder taking away votes...DUHHH - that's what an election is about - taking away votes from your opponents. People wouldn't vote for Nader if they thought the other parties represented them. Gore and Bush are not alike on the surface, so I don't know how you can say voters thought they were similar, unless your ready to fess up and admit they are CFR insiders selling us out.

The first thing people need to learn to do is THINK FOR YOURSELVES! Stop listening to the corporate controlled media spin cycle. All of our so-called "choices" are the same old presentation of promises to the peasant class while the bankster class robs us blind with inflation and war.

Kick them all out! Go Nader and anyone else who wants to speak the truth about this corporate-run fascist group of thugs.

First thoughts: Party crasher

I am a 48 year old, white, male lifelong Democrat from Arkansas. I voted for Hillary in the Primaries, but WILL vote for the Democratic frontrunner in Nov.
I wish that Clinton and Obama could get together, stop attacking one another, and then stand beside each other and proclaim to the world "the candidate standing beside me will be my Running Mate in the General Election. Let the people, through the delagates, decide who will be our next President, second place will be the V.P."
I know that probably won't happen and either one can, most likely, beat McCain this fall. My point is that I don't just want to defeat the Republicans:
I want to create a tsunami effect that brings a wave of Democrats into the White House, Senate and House of Representatives and SUCKS the Republicans back into the private sector!
That can only happen if they work together.

Clinton and Obama supporters should stop fighting among themselves, remember that they are Democrats FIRST and help make this happen!
