Obama has been bagging on "the 90's" for some time now. We know what he means. If he wasn't running against Bill's wife, I think he would be building off of one of the best presidents ever. Instead he is dragging Bill through the mud, just like the Republicans did, just like the Republicans will try to do to every Democratic president elected subsequently. That's what they do- whatever it takes to get control. Too bad Obama is doing the same thing. Self righteous Obama is really the same old politics he denounces. I simply don't get it! Why is the standard being dropped so low for one of the most important jobs on the planet? Why is it okay to disregard a qualified woman and choose an unqualified man? Is it just because Obama is a man? I do not think that there would even be a contest if he were a black female and Hillary were a white male. A black female candidate with little or no experience would have been ridiculed to no end by now, for the mere thought of running against a more experienced white male. Does the river of sexism run deeper in American hearts than the river of racism? The person that is qualified for the job should be the person that is hired to do the job. No matter who you support, Obama or Clinton, it's not difficult to see that these back and forth jabs (and worse) are hurting the Democratic party. After all the unhappiness people have had with the government because of what has happened over the last seven years, the Democrats should have had an easy ride in the November election. That may not happen thanks to all these attacks - attacks that aren't really helping either candidate. They *are* certainly providing a lot of fodder for the GOP, leaving them in a position where they won't have to attack the Dem. candidate. They can simply sound bite or quote so many of the negative things said by the Dem. candidate campaigns without having to get their own hands dirty. I'm no political campaign expert but I do know that I wouldn't want a surrogate speaker out there spending 50%,30%, or even 5% talking about himself or herself. I would want them spending 100% of their time on the stump speaking about the candidate, the issues, and how the candidate will benefite the voters. Mr. Clinton turns listeners off because he spends far too much time talking about himself, his administration, and the past. This election (like every election) is and should be about the future.

We spend so much time discussing former President Clinton's comments. Why don't we pay closer attention to what Sen. Obama is and is not saying. When we do look closely I think we'd begin to agree with Robert Samuelson of Newsweek. He said "Obama is largely a stage presence defined mostly by his powerful rhetoric. The trouble, at least for me, is the huge and deceptive gap between his captivating oratory and his actual views."

Bush doesn't like her "because she is black," and used her to stop the McCain campaign in South Carolina in 2000, you understand why McCain would be especially sensitive to race-baiting of Cunningham's sort. The question is how vigorously he will combat it; he hasn't been above Muslim-taunting in the campaign so far. (And, the McCains really should let Bridget know that she is Asian, not "black." The poor girl; Bush and Rove have done a number on her, and Cindy's confusion can't help.)

Mr. Clinton disrespected the White House, the American citizens, his wife (even though I have read that she knew about the Lewinsky(sp)infidelity and played it to her advantage), and daughter. Sometimes we miss the forest for the trees. When in our history has an ex-president repeatedly attacked a candidate from his own party? I understand that people may have issue with Obama and may disagree with him. Yet, why deny that he's changed the game and hasn't even won the primary?

Countries across the globe are talking about and taking interest in our PRIMARIES, that is amazing. It's that type of phenomenon that defines Obama's character and ability to reach across boundaries and unite. Had McCain generated this level of interest the red carpet would be laid out for him to the oval office.

I truly think that if Obama were to win it would change our political arena for generations. And no, it wouldn't be to "sell out" the interests of this country. I hope we as a people AMERICANS can mature and grow out of the petty name calling, empty allegations and scape goating to elect someone that can benefit us as a collective.

Before his presidency, George Bush Sr. happened to be a World War II veteran, who flew into combat. He was the Vice President of the United States in the administration of Ronald Reagan (1980 -1988). He has also served as the member of the United States House of Representatives for the 7th district of Texas (1967–1971), the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (1971–1973), Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1973–1974), Chief of the United States Liaison Office in the People’s Republic of China (1974–1976), and Director of Central Intelligence (1976–1977).

Obama was merely being a “great guest,” Gration said.

The main story on the Drudge Report on Monday shows Obama fitted as a "Somali Elder” and Drudge’s story said “Clinton staffers” –who were not named--were circulating the picture.

The Obama campaign said release of this photo was “fear mongering” and “ divisive.” The Clinton campaign said the senator has been widely photographed wearing traditional dress, suggesting that there was nothing to raise a fuss about.

Gration was with Obama on every leg of the African visit, including Wajir, an area that often does not get the attention of foreign visitors. Obama, whose father was Kenyan, was treated as a head-of-state during the visit, part of a multi-nation trip of which Kenya was the highlight. Obama, his wife Michelle, their two daughters and friends accompanied them on the Kenya leg of the trip.

Gration is a Swahili-speaking retired Air Force major general, a native of St. Charles, Ill., who spent much of his youth in Africa. These are the normal clothes that nomadic people wear.

The head turban is especially used by elderly people as a suggestion of respect. It is something that has no meaning whatsoever in Somalia culture.

If you see someone dressed like that in Somalia, you think it is a nomadic person - that is all.

There is no religious significance to it whatsoever. It is mainly the nomadic people who use it. Some of them are religious, some are not.

It is simply a tradition of the place where they are from.

In this particular place, Wajir in north-east Kenya, the community is majority ethnic Somali.

They have a council for Peace and Development, and when they get delegates they dress them as a nomadic person.

I have been trying to track down the old man in the photo with Mr Obama, and I have been told he is Mohammed Hassan, the chair of the council itself. But he is not in town today, and we could not get hold of him.

This debate reminds me of people back home in Somalia, who say that women should not wear trousers, or other cultures who say men should not wear a tie. I just don't think it makes sense.

Everyone says they don't know anything about Obama. Do any of you read what he is really about ? I keep hearing little old ladies call into C-Span and say he is this he is that. I understand someone that doesn't have a computer doesn't get all the facts. But, some people here, all you have to do is read. I voted for Bill twice and I have opened my eyes to what the Clinton's are really about. It gets a little sickening to keep hearing he is new and doesn't have the experience, read, you might get educated ! To those who don't want to know, you weren't going to vote for him in the first place.

Didn't Lou Dobbs rant a lot about jobs going overseas and outsourcing all the time. How come he is supporting Hillary now, the one who cupported NAFTA that lead to the jobs going out of the country? On the ohter hand, he rants against Obama, the candidate who is promising to protect our jobs. Isn't it clear that Lou Dobbs is a rascist?

I voted for Hillary today. I like Obama better, but President Bush has left so many problems, I'm worried Obama won't be able to handle them as well as Hillary could.

So did FDR and Winston Churchill .... but Hitler didn't and, in fact, I believe he was a good vegetarian also. ----- HOWEVER, since a vote for a ridiculous reason counts as much as one based on character, leadership skills, etc., you should know that he has stopped smoking (It was one of his wife's condition when he was deciding to run.) I believe he talks about his success so far on an upcoming "Ellen" show. So you can look to other factors in deciding to vote.

OBAMATONS: your man is just a black Bill Clinton in many respects, but without the executive experience as a governor preceding his candidacy for the highest managerial post in our country.

It's glaringly obvious that both men are driven more by ego than the desire to serve. When all goes well for them, they're positively beatific. When foul winds prevail, they're not only in the fray, they ARE it. By contrast, Hillary's emotions are genuine. They're driven by her passion to serve. They are what they are and they aren't unreasonable.

It's only a matter of time before Barack's passive-aggressiveness manifests itself fully in ways similar to Bill's. The reason that Bill's negatives didn't end his career is that he delivered. Will Barack do the same? Wondering does nothing to boost my morale.

Tangibles give me hope.

That's why I support Hillary. Not Bill and Hillary. Just Hillary. Were she president at this particular turning point in history, I'd be able to sleep at night.

That Barack could organize a successful grassroots movement is laudable, but it doesn't qualify him for the job in and of itself. Every campaign I ever undertook as a community activist was successful. I've been profiled on top of the fold of more than one newspaper. Make me president!

It would be only slightly more absurd to do so.

I understand that in supporting someone who has no substantive history in govt, people feel liberated, and thus hopeful. (Especially if they eschew close scrutiny of the facts.) But it won't be enough to repair the damage done by junior Bush. That's why the ticket should've been Clinton/Obama, as suggested by many, affording us 16 years of progressive democratic rule.(The reverse will afford us only 12 or maybe just 4.)

All the big Teflon personalities we've witnessed in our midst have always exhibited the downside of their star qualities. And without a solid body of work and experience to supplant their personal appeal, all we'll be left with is buyer's remorse.

I spent a happy chunk of years living in the Big Bend Region of Texas, and briefly in Austin, and it hurts to know that such a maverick people are about to be duped. (Except for Kinky Friedman, who appears to have his eyes wide open.) Voting for Barack on the Left is as foolish as voting for junior Bush on the right.

But back to Bill, who is the subject of the blog: I believe he has subconsciously sabotaged Hillary at every turn. He can't help it. He hasn't gained control of his ego. He should have been kept behind the scenes.

And as to the Bill-Barack similarity, we have yet to see how Barack's ego will do him--and us--in. And to my way of thinking, which usually pushes far past the surface, if Obama were a true agent of change, he'd have run independent of any party affiliation whatsoever. He's manipulating the machine as much as any other party member. How is that different?

Alas, I'm 52, and I doubt I'll ever see a woman president if Hillary doesn't make it or isn't offered the VP spot. And after Obama, I wonder if I'll ever see another black president before I die. If Obama becomes president, it's incumbent on him to get the job done--fully, well, and fast.

One can only hope...
