The people who are focusing on obama's name, race, background and the fact that he wore a native garb during a diplomatic tour are troubled people. I suspect for what ever reason they are very afraid and upset. For that reason they can't think clearly and can only strike out at whatever threatens them. Having very low self esteem, they have to find someone different to put down so that they will feel higher themselves. Hopefully, they will either come out into the light or stay in their dark little cubicles without hurting anyone. We need to ignore them as far as possible because getting into arguments with them just gives theem what they want.

Barack Obama is not the only voice of change, hope and truth that is seeking to lead our nation to higher ground! Despite the fact that the media only reports on HIS dynamic for change, there is another candidate whose voice has been muffled behind the gatekeepers we call the media.

Mike Huckabee is also a candidate who brings change, honor, hope, respect and the vision of a prosperous country to the table.

The thing to fear from Obama is not his name, nor his disregard for the 'same ole thing', which is his common connection with the people of this great nation. That is what is creating the movement within the young people, the movement that even the Washington establishment is taking note of.

What we should all fear is the bigger picture of the compromise that this country will face as a result of the proposals Mr. Obama is making. By creating a system of government that is responsible for the quality of life of every citizen, we take out what drives each of us to continue to strive to be the best that we can be. By creating an even playing field, we eliminate the competition and create an economy based on what we expect from other people - namely the government - which will then control even the most personal of decisions we make in our lives.

There is a huge difference in allowing access to everyone of our citizens to the best healthcare, the best jobs, the best housing, the best mortgage, the best way to make ends meet, etc...and in mandating it. That is the difference in the American way and socialism. We should all take a look at this and realize that to talk about giving that right and access to everyone and to mandate it is a very fine line - the line between a free enterprise system and socialism...

The only reason that he won was because his republican challenger, Jack Ryan, got caught in a sex scandal late in the campaign. Obama's people got Jack Ryan's sealed divorce records unsealed, which had allegations from his ex-wife of adultery. So much for politics of hope. Once Jack Ryan was out of the way, the national republican party made an odd choice and sent Alan Keyes of Maryland to set up residence in Illinois to finish the run against Obama. Essentially, Obama won his senate seat because it ended up being uncontested. Had Jack Ryan's divorce records remained sealed, Obama would have lost big to his republican challenger. Michelle’s' story about Obama over coming his name in 2004 is well, a fairy tale.

I am a 66 year old European-American woman. Anyway, revealing my age is by way of saying I remember the Kennedy's and Martin Luther King. I am also of the profound belief that one has to have a vision before anything meaningful can be accomplished. And Barack Obama not only has that vision, he has the ability to articulate it in a way to move people to action. Remember the Peace Corps? We all do ... and we know what kind of vision created that wonderful vehicle for the United States to become better known and admired in the world ... for what its citizens could do. Then there was the landing on the moon, and the worrisome days of the Cuban Missile Crises that was resolved without a war (all accomplished by a president with only Senate experience, but with a vision for all of us). Of course, we remember Selma, and Little Rock, among others, and we know how moving it was to hear Martin Luther King stir us to action. Citizens rode down to the South sit in at lunch counters and to ride the buses with our fellow African-American citizens. My father, who had never uttered a word to that time either for or against racial inequality, said: "If I didn't have to support my family, I would be there with them, because no one should tell a man where he can sit on a bus."

I say these things to implore you to consider what these wonderful motivating men have done to elevate our nation ... and to tell you I believe sincerely that Barack Obama is another of these unique and once in a generation individuals. Our young people seem to have hope again that their voices will mean something. I, as a senior citizen feel renewed. This is not empty rhetoric. First the vision, then the cultivation of enthusiasm for the vision, then the plan, then the action to bring the vision to life.

I have been in the business world for many years and can tell you I have seen this work. I started without experience but accomplished major changes for my company by pursuing what I believed was possible. In order to be a "racist", one must have two distict ("special" for those of you that don't understand big words)qualities:

The current King of Jordan, Abdullah, is more eager to ally himself with the US as Jordan's main backer, what was the Soviet Union, is not playing as prominent a role for the regime. And the fact that we invaded his next door neighbor is pretty good incentive as well.

But that's as maybe. Senator Obama's name is not the problem. It's his lies about his campaign financing, specifically his reaping federal lobbyist and pac money while he claims he's not accepting it; his inability to condemn Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam as the anti-semitic, and generally racist organization that it is; and his continued support of the head of his church who awards and honors the aforementioned Jew hater. That's what I have a problem with. Oh, and let's not forget his balking on his public financing pledge, and his pandering to American Jews by saying he supports Israel--one of America's greatest allies-- when in truth he does not (he changed his position when he ran for the Senate as American Jews are a larger, and generally a more politically powerful voting block than the Palestinians).

I couldn't care less about his name.

Obama is a duplicitous liar, playing the same old deceitful games, while marketing himself as the candidate of change (like George W. Bush did in 2000--he didn't want to debate his opponent either).

His name is the least of his problems.

BTW Michelle, your husband won his Senatorial election because Jack Ryan got outed in a sex scandal, and your husband had the good fortune of running against Alan Keyes, who set up a sham residence in Illinois so he could run at the last minute. A moldy dust mop could beat Alan Keyes. If there was any fear involved it was that Alan Keyes might have ended up being the junior Senator from Illinois. That would scare me too.

Ok, let's see if this actually posts this time...

Wow, thank you Sunny, nv for your words. I am a 27 year old African American and a recent veteran of the U.S. Military. It fills my heart with pride that people would even so greatly consider a President of his (and my own) decent. It makes me feel proud to see people from different backgrounds coming together and interacting well among each other (day to day, not just to elect someone). The world truly is an ugly place and we all have a lot of hurdles to overcome. The problem is not with members of a certain race. The problem is with individuals. I want more than anything, to see people love one another and for no one to be racially biased against each other for any reason. We have all had negative situations in our lives and other bad things are going to happen as well. (This is due to the nature of "sin", but I won't even begin to cover that topic today). In any event, I think Senators Clinton and Obama have good things to bring to the table, but I do wish Hillary would spend more time speaking intelligently on what she intends to change instead of showing the bad side of her character by repeatedly attempting to make Obama look bad. He is no angel I'm sure, but she might want to stop berating him and trying to change people's perception. Although they would both likely be good for the country, I think Barack will have a far greater influence on an international scale because of his character and outlook on things, so I think he would be a better President. Either way, I want to see a better America, but that all starts with us as individuals! Oh, and as someone else said in an earlier post, you can put me down as an Obamaniac. = )

Here, Here Lori from WI. I find it interesting that the African American Sen Obama supporters are the ones playing the "race" card in order to get their man the nomination, and yet when Sen Clinton tries to play the "gender" card, they get slammed by Sen Obama's supporters. Talk about a Teflon candidate. His surrogates seem to be able to say whatever they want, play the race card with impunity, avoid the specifics of any issue and still the Obamanation can slam, slur, and otherwise oppress Sen. Clinton and her supporters with no consequences. This is the face of "Change we can Believe In", Change for the sake of change can mean going backwards rather than forward, Progress (change that moves us forward as a nation) means ignoring both race and gender and voting on the ISSUES that affect ALL Americans. I'm still waiting for someone to talk about PROGRESS.

Deborah, you're right...I find the whole dynamic is as interesting as it is frightening. It is exposing an ugliness and a double standard that negates any "hope" of progress but rather "promises" enormous steps backwards...
