Again, hardly the basis for a national campaign). Senator Clinton’s claims of being “the most experienced” and of trying to paint her opponent as a rookie are somewhere between laughable and offensive (the more she makes these claims, the more offensive they are because they insult people’s intelligence). In essence, she’s pulled one over on a whole lot of people.

This team has so duped the national media, it’s frightening. I haven’t heard ONE national reporter ever do the 10 minute analysis that I just did. And yet she whines because “everyone’s so tough on me and they never analyze my opponent’s record.” If they were tough on you, they’d be questioning your fundamental claim as to why you should be President, Senator Clinton. Be grateful Senator Obama has stayed above the fray and hasn’t shredded your claim. If you’re the nominee, you can bet the Republicans will.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Senator Clinton claims to be the best one to manage the labyrinthian bureaucracy in DC. What substance there is on her resume to justify this claim is beyond me. Perhaps one of the Senator’s paid staffers who poses as a blogger here could help on this topic. Here’s what we know. The first large enterprise she’s ever managed is her Presidential Campaign and she managed it straight into debt and directly into 11 consecutive losses. In the past 2 weeks, we hear that she is just now trying to figure out the relatively simple process of the elections in Texas.

Is there ANY reality behind her rhetoric? Senator Obama doesn’t claim to be know DC inside and out but here’s what he’s established: in less than 12 months, he has built the most impressive and wide-ranging campaign infrastructure in history. All as a little-known Senator with NO establishment backing.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Marbw, posted this yesterday. I’m reposting it here because it’s such a poignant clip that has gotten so little attention. It underlines the point that Senator Clinton has no answer to the charge that she's making against Senator Obama (a common theme the past 6 weeks). Voters who pay attention realize that despite all her slogans about her opponent (like "he's all rhetoric and no reality"), it's she who has nothing to back up her claims. Unfortunately for Senator Clinton, it appears that the "people who pay attention" is a growing demographic.

From the National Journal, March 1, 2008
“It was, in this reporter's opinion, the most interesting moment in today's Clinton campaign phoner with reporters. Responding to the release of HRC's new TX TV ad, which asserts in no subtle terms that only she has the experience to deal with a major world crisis, and, relatedly, to keep your children safe, Slate's John Dickerson asked the obvious question:
"What foreign policy moment would you point to in Hillary's career where she's been tested by crisis?" he said.

Silence on the call. You could've knit a sweater in the time it took the usually verbose team of Mark Penn, Howard Wolfson and Lee Feinstein, Clinton's national security director, to find a cogent answer. And what they came up with was weak -- that she's been endorsed by many high ranking members of the uniformed military.”
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2008/02/pregnant_pause.html

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Senator Clinton keeps bringing up national security and foreign policy as her trump card. But the problem is, she doesn’t hold those cards anymore. In the past week, the two Senators with the most experience on Foreign Relations and National Intelligence issues endorsed your rival. That’s right, the Chairman of the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee and the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee BOTH endorsed Obama. They have BOTH known you for the entire 35 years of your experience and yet they endorsed him. I know some of your hacks will write in with slander against "the two white men who don't know anything," but intelligent voters will see that the two MOST EXPERIENCED individuals in the Senate on the issues of foreign relations and intelligence have implicitly denounced Senator Clinton.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Not surprising since republicans and independents are allowed to vote in our primary and 90% of a certain other voting block seems to be race based.

Hopefully there are enough smart Democrats to see through this charade and vote for Hilliary as if their economic life depends upon it because it does.

obama is nothing more than a political opportunist and shyster.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

C. Who will be your national security advisor, head of CIA, FBI, ambassador to the United Nations? Judgment is how you process information and trust the sources when facts, intelligence and guesses are brought to you as President for a decision to be made. In addition, in this incredibly divided country, electing another divisive figure like Clinton would not unify us. Instead, it will be another four years of partisan bickering. That may not be fair, but it's likely. The Clintons (including Hillary and Bill), as evidenced by the campaign, are not trying to bring the country together. Rather, they are deploying the 50+1 strategy they are often perceived to be. Win, at any costs, whether good for the country or the party. They have played to the fears of the populace, or made a "sympathy vote" gender case to women (ie vote for Hillary because she is somehow a sympathetic figure). I know that it's exciting for women to have a women running for president. The question, at least to me, is whether this particular women really does have the experience and the judgment and the ability to bring this country together.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

I have already voted for Obama on Saturday in the Texas Democratic Primary. Bill and Hillary Clinton spurn the truth and play dirty tricks to win; they are glaringly hypocritical. They circulate fear for political gains that will not materialize. We do not trust them anymore. It is time for Democrats, Independents, and some Republicans in Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and RI to go to poll in droves to vote for Barack Obama on March 4th so that the Democrats will start uniting the party for the general election.
Prince George
Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

And when asked what experience Hill actually has to her and her campaign she said.................

:crickets in background:
Well I dont have any

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

I watched the recent debate for elections in Spain. Two hours of extended talk about issues, candidate positions and future direction. It wasn't entertainment for sure. It was heavy stuff. But, at the end of one debate you had a pretty clear idea of where each candidate was heading in terms of policies, etc. It was much better content wise than any debate in the entire USA nomination process. It is just so sad that the American public is so chained to entertainment and soundbites. I have learned very little new about Obama's direction or way of governing. Or, maybe I have and have made the decision that I prefer the direction Hillary has laid out very clearly. I just can't help but believe that Obama give democrats another McGovern style defeat after so much excitment, so much idolizing and little clarity. I dread the thought of more Republican leadership that has taken us into a horrible budget situation and failed international policies. We are in a mess and the Republican leadership, Republican budgets, Republican conservatism that permits no new direction have all got us into this mess. If Obama wins, he sure better have people who know a hell of a lot more about governing and the world at large than his work in south Chicago has given him. So little experience and so big a dream. I think the presidential campaign this year is something akin to American idol.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

It is kind of ironic that when Hillary cries the media latch on to her and give her exceptional news coverage and disrespects Obama.

There is a great deal of negative coverage on Obama because he is winning( won). The Internet and intelligent people sharing information has become the most reliable source for any in-depth analysis. You guys here at First Read are the only real political reporters MSNBC has other than Keith Olbermann. CNN has none. NONE. Forget Fox Fake News. He was a defendant in at least a dozen lawsuits, federal investigators in Chicago were poking around, and his name was in newspaper articles about corruption and fraud.

None of that stopped Mr. Rezko, a politically connected developer, and Senator Barack Obama from completing real estate deals a few years ago that resulted in the Obamas obtaining their dream house and the Rezkos buying an empty lot next door.

Nearly three years later, fallout from Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Rezko, who raised more than $150,000 for Mr. Obama’s campaigns, continue to dog Mr. Obama on the presidential campaign trail. That distraction promises to linger as Mr. Rezko goes on trial on corruption charges starting Monday.

Mr. Obama, a Democrat, is not part of the case against Mr. Rezko, who is accused of shaking down companies seeking business with the State of Illinois. Mr. Obama has conceded that it was a mistake to bring Mr. Rezko into his personal real estate dealings, although he has insisted that there was nothing unusual about the developer’s decision to buy a sought-after lot in an upscale neighborhood.

But a review of court records, including new details of Mr. Rezko’s finances that emerged recently, show that the lot purchase occurred as he was being pursued by creditors seeking more than $10 million, deepening the mystery of why he would plunge into a real estate investment whose biggest beneficiary appears to have been Mr. Obama.

As Mr. Obama and Mr. Rezko were completing the property purchases in June 2005, Mr. Rezko was fighting to keep lenders and investors at bay over defaulted loans and failing business ventures. But he side-stepped that financial dragnet by arranging for the land to be bought in his wife’s name, making it the only property she owned by herself, according to land records.

As a result, when the Obamas bought part of the land from Mrs. Rezko seven months later to widen their yard, the money they paid was beyond the reach of Mr. Rezko’s creditors, including one conducting a court-ordered hunt for his assets to recover a $3.5 million debt.

Two lawyers involved in the civil litigation against Mr. Rezko said they believed that the property was subject to possible seizure on the premise that Mr. Rezko had been trying to hide behind his wife, Rita, who had little money of her own to complete the $625,000 purchase.

The lawyers, both of whom requested anonymity because they did not have their clients’ permission to speak about the cases, said there was little purpose in pursuing it because the legal costs would have outweighed the value of the property, which was encumbered by a $500,000 mortgage.

Lawyers representing Mr. Rezko in the civil litigation declined to comment.

When the property deals first surfaced in late 2006, Mr. Obama said he had done nothing wrong. In a statement at the time, he also said: “It was a mistake to have been engaged with him at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor.” Mr. Obama’s campaign emphasized Saturday that the criminal proceeding against Mr. Rezko “is not a case about Senator Obama.”

The statement added: “Senator Obama knew Tony Rezko for two decades in very different circumstances, none of which involve the actions with which Mr. Rezko has been charged.”

The fuller picture of Mr. Rezko’s financial maneuverings emerged from an examination of civil suits in state and federal courts, as well as newly filed documents in his criminal case.

Mr. Rezko, a longtime confidant and fund-raiser for Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois, a Democrat, has pleaded not guilty to charges of extorting campaign contributions and payoffs from companies looking to do business with the Blagojevich administration.

Mr. Obama’s name is likely to surface during the trial, if only because $10,000 of the money Mr. Rezko is accused of extorting wound up in Mr. Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign. There is nothing to indicate that Mr. Obama did any favors for Mr. Rezko, but there is ample evidence that Mr. Rezko did favors for Mr. Obama.

The two men became friends in the early 1990s when Mr. Rezko tried to hire Mr. Obama to work on his low-income housing developments. When Mr. Obama turned to politics, Mr. Rezko was an early supporter and fund-raiser. Mr. Rezko also stepped in when Mr. Obama, a newly elected United States senator, and his family found a Georgian mansion for sale in the Kenwood section of Chicago.

When the transactions were first reported, Mr. Obama said only that he had asked Mr. Rezko, as a developer, whether he thought the house was worth buying. But last month, Mr. Obama’s campaign staff said the senator also recalled walking around the house and the adjacent lot with Mr. Rezko.

Mr. Obama has said he did not know why Mr. Rezko decided to buy the lot. Business associates of Mr. Rezko said he gave various explanations, among them that he wanted to help the Obamas expand their backyard and that he thought it would be a good investment to own a lot next to a prominent politician. But Mr. Rezko’s involvement was important because the owners of the house and the lot had stipulated that neither could be sold unless a deal for the other closed on the same day.

Michael Sreenan, a lawyer who handled the transaction for Mrs. Rezko, said that the lot was attractive to developers and that the Rezkos had to outbid others to buy it.

Some critics say that given Mr. Obama’s longtime emphasis on ethics, it is puzzling that he would have been so involved with the Rezkos on the house and lot deals after questions had begun to crop up about Mr. Rezko’s political and business activities.

For at least two years before the property purchases, news articles had raised questions about Mr. Rezko’s influence over state appointments and contracts. There had also been reports that the F.B.I. was investigating accusations of a shakedown scheme involving a state hospital board to which Mr. Rezko had suggested appointments.

Also, Chicago officials had announced that they were investigating whether a company partly owned by Mr. Rezko had won public contracts by posing as a minority business.

As a result, said Jay Stewart, executive director of the Better Government Association in Chicago, Mr. Obama “should have been on high alert.”

In addition, although Mr. Rezko enjoyed a reputation as a man of means, with a Mediterranean-style mansion, a sprawling chain of fast-food businesses and frequent multimillion-dollar real estate deals, the court records show, he was also sinking in financial quicksand.

Federal prosecutors filed papers last week saying Mr. Rezko had trouble paying creditors for years. At least 12 lawsuits had been filed against Mr. Rezko and his businesses from November 2002 to January 2005, including one by the G.E. Commercial Finance Corporation, which had extended more than $5 million in loans for Mr. Rezko’s pizza franchises.

G.E. obtained a court judgment against Mr. Rezko in November 2004 for the $3.5 million that it said was outstanding on its loans, but the company put collection efforts on hold in the first half of 2005 as it negotiated with Mr. Rezko, court records show. When the Obamas and Rezkos bought their adjacent parcels that June, Mrs. Rezko put down $125,000 in cash and financed the rest with a bank loan.

Vincent A. Lavieri, a lawyer who has represented clients in three lawsuits against Mr. Rezko, said Mr. Rezko’s creditors could have tried to prove that Mr. Rezko was using his wife as a front to shield assets.

It is unclear where Mrs. Rezko got the money for the down payment and how she carried the loan, considering that she later said in an affidavit that she earned $37,000 a year and had few assets.

Mr. Rezko, however, had come into money two months earlier, when he obtained a $3.5 million loan from a Panamanian company controlled by his friend and business partner, Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi billionaire who was convicted several years ago in France on fraud charges.

Alasdair Pepper, a lawyer based in London who represented Mr. Auchi, said that Mr. Rezko was expected to use the money for his pizza business, and that “as far as my client is aware, Mr. Rezko used the loan for its intended purpose and not for any other purpose.”

Court records in the G.E. case show that a few months after receiving the loan from Mr. Auchi, Mr. Rezko made a $1 million payment to G.E., but stopped short of repaying everything he owed.

Finally, in October 2005, G.E. obtained an order allowing the company to begin seizing Mr. Rezko’s assets. The company’s lawyers filed a claim against the Rezkos’ home and began issuing subpoenas to banks where Mr. Rezko had accounts, finding very little cash. Court records show that G.E. was due to be in court on Jan. 5, 2006, for example, obtaining an order to seize $1,297.39 from one of Mr. Rezko’s checking accounts.

Less than a week later, Mrs. Rezko sold a 10-foot-wide strip of the empty lot to Mr. Obama, for $104,500, so he could widen his side yard. The Rezkos had little to show for the entire transaction.

Asked by a judge to give an accounting of his and his wife’s assets last year after he was indicted, Mr. Rezko said that his wife had recently sold the remainder of the lot and that the small profit it generated went back to the buyer to help cover an old debt.

“So she didn’t walk away with any cash?” the judge asked.

“Not one dollar,” Mr. Rezko replied.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

     Channel surfing the CNN/MSNBC/Fox Noise channels this a.m. Just saw a report on "Noise" by John Damshroder, Fox Channel 8 political reporter --- he says polling models now in use do not account for the very heavy voter turnout expected in OH. He believes that Obama support is understated in recent polls --- 4 out of 5 major newspapers have supported Obama, Service Union Int'l has made a huge commitment to Obama, and a majority of new voters, now engaged, will break for Obama. Damshroder got high marks for his political acumen prior to his report; the anchor was somewhat surprised at his assessment given today's polling numbers. He says Obama will win OH. For what any prognostication is worth. (I sure hope he is right, BTW!)

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Amy Anderson: I commend your intellect in seeing your grievance was with the news network and not with the candidates. It would be helpful if everyone was able to identify where their concerns and biases lay instead of embracing half truths and misconstrued presentations. My hat off to you for a thoughtful post.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

One recent MSNBC expert pointed out that HRC was having such a problem because there are no right wing conspirators to blame for her falling numbers and self-destructing campaign.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

I don't believe being ahead in the polls by 4% is a dead heat LOL They don't say Hillary is ahead by 4% in Ohio to make allowances for the 3% either way. After the garbage she's had strewn at her and said about her and the lies Obama and the media have had no problem spouting, she has every right to be thoroughly disgusted. I know the rest of the world is wondering why the American Press is concealing Obama's distortions of the truth; why they aren't even discussing his call to Canada - telling the Canadians that anything he said should be considered "Political Rhetoric" etc.... I mean this is an INTERNATIONAL faux pas, big time, and has demonstrated to Canada and other US Allies that Obama speaks out of both sides of his mouth and will do anything to win; and even has the GALL to admit it!! How on earth can any nation rely on Obama's word now? And the US Press has not said ONE WORD about it, other than to kill the story as quickly as possible!
I agree with you, that more dialogue would be great between the candidates. But the Press has not allowed that either! It's deplorable to say the least! the media bias against Hillary - and her grace - has certainly proven she is the only one qualified to be President. The FLUFF Obama spouts is just that Fluff and empty Political Rhetoric. He's conning the voter big time and laughs and brags about it to the Canadians to boot! Unreal!
Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Perception is everything. We hear ad nauseum about how money is such a big deal in these campaigns but NONE of the networks ever address why that is beyond the standard tv/radio/pamphlet no brainers. I don't see her stopping. She's going to win Ohio but probably lose Texas. VT and RI will be a wash. She'll go on, and it's really going to get annoying. It's the delegate count!Even if there is a tie in Ohio and Texas Obama comes away the winner. Clinton may want to use the closeness of the elections to continue,but she will soon realize that she won't be getting the super-delegates if Obama leads by 150-200 delegates. In terms of grace, proposed programs, energy and enthusiasm, knowledge and abilities, and executive demeanor, Hillary Clinton can hold her own among any of the candidates in both parties -- and she does so in high heels.

Obama's resume is thin -- and that's obvious when supporters have to talk about his record at law school, a strategy appropriate for first-year job seekers but scarcely for presidential candidates. His eight-year career in the Illinois Senate is lackluster, marred by voting "present" 129 times, thereby avoiding the difficult choice of "yes" or "no" on proposed legislation.

Even his 70 percent vote margin in his 2004 U. S. Senate bid cries for a downgrade. He defeated a GOP nobody, perennial candidate for public office, Alan Keyes, who took over the candidacy after the real winner of the primary stepped aside as a result of a sex scandal.

Nor do campaign stops provide concise specifics about his proposals, more akin as they are to celebrity, touchy-feely, anything-I-say-is-OK performances. His safe-harbor, oratorical retreat ("and that's why I'm running for president of the United States of America") is overused and overvalued. As for Obama's lifting sentences from other speakers, at a minimum that illustrates laziness.--Thomas V. She is 60 years old, yet “found her own voice” only after the New Hampshire Primary. That is absolutely astonishing for the candidate that claims to be the wise, experienced one.

I don’t want a president who made the politically expedient choice to support Bush on the use of force in Iraq. I want a president like Obama who made the difficult, politically unpopular decision to speak out against the Iraq invasion.

When the “leadership” of the Democratic Party was AWOL, he was one of very few politicians with the courage to speak out against the war. He faced off against Bush and Cheney’s propaganda machine, and spoke out about the lack of a threat, despite the anticipated consequences of such a politically unpopular stand.

That is leadership. That is why Obama is qualified to be president. And yes there is a media byas against clinton. So if you think that people vote because of polls and mommentum then us democrats are setting ourselves to get our butts kicked this november. If Obama is the candidate to run against McCain then brace yourselves for the exposure of Obamas inexperience, liberal record (he's even more liberal than Ted Kennedy), NAFTA (knudging already to Canada that he'll not eliminated it), independent voters and conservative democrats along with the elderly vote will shift to McCAin. I honestly think that the only democrat capable of beating McCain is Hillary. She is atleast in the middle politically, has plenty of experience and has worked with Republicans in many issues and one important factor I think is crucial... she will have atleast 70+ more of the Hispanic vote. I honestly think that if Obama wins you'll see a larger chunk go to McCain not only because the hispanic vote is more conservative but due to the fact McCain was the only one to atleast attempt to do something about immigration reform which Hispanics wont forget that gesture.
Another point... do you we really think Obama is going to win those states he has won in the South this November? What about Florida, I know Floridians will be pretty pissed because they didn't count their delegates (even more those who came out in record numbers who voted for Hillary). Lastly, stop insinuating that Hillary should quit!! do the math and you'll see that this is still and will be a very, very close election with pledged delegates and as they have been saying about the superdelegates to obey the will of the people,,, than by Hillary winning the larger states (and counting Michigan and Florida) she will be slightly ahead. Something to consider.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

This is a plea to people in Iowa....

I am so impressed with your vote. How far fetched is that actually? the campaigns are marching through the country since when again? almost two years till election day? That cerainly raises some questions: what did happen during this time not only here but also in the rest of the world our candidates did not influence - and that is critical - although they have been elected to be involved in the decision making in washington. The whole 'experience' bubble will blast with the next terrorist attack or whatever we will have to face in the future. It will be the first time for everyone who is now running for the white house. I hope that the person in charge will be intelligent, flexible and honorable enough to quickly find solutions. That said - being 35 years in the political buisness is a good argument for being stiff and burned out. It is just a fact that younger brains think faster and more flexible. UP. Wages for middle income earners? UP. Crime? DOWN. teen pregnancy? DOWN. Drug use? DOWN. Individual net worth? UP. Home ownership? UP. The reason was that they could not defeat him any other way.

Do you honestly think the Republicans are going to break the leashes of their corporate masters in order to play ball with Barack? If so, then I have some swampland in Arizona for you. Remember when they shut down the government?

The Clintons have been there and they have done that - against a Republican majority. Oh, you say, that's the past and we need to look forward etc. Ask yourself: how many effective presidents have we actually had? We have the chance to have the most effective president back in the White House and you want to throw it aside for an untested, unvetted young man? Please don't let the Republicans and corporate media take that chance away from us. There really is too much at stake in this election.

Yes, if Hillary wins, we will have to pay a price. The price we have to pay for the progress if Hillary gets elected will be another corporate media propaganda onslaught against the Clintons. I for one am willing to pay that price for a better life.

Oh, and btw, while Hillary was working as an attorney "for a tiny law firm in Arkansas (again, admirable but not even “top shelf” in the legal world given the thousands of first-tier attorneys at major corporations across America)," she just happened to be recognized as one of the best lawyers in America.

Go Billary.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

If any of you out there are undecided and are a woman or a father of a daughter...please read the following. http://www.cleveland.com/brett/index.ssf?/base/opinion-0/120427742877180.xml&coll=2

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

I sincerely hope voters wake up. Point is, polls are polls, you guys are acting like this is going to be the result come tuesday. I support Obama because he actually does bring a new idea towards Washington politics, the idea that policy papers don't necessarily qualify you to be a leader, that you have to be able to break the boundary of political parties to actually get things done. That is why he is liked by Independents. Even though some of his policies he's proposed are left leaning, who says he wouldn't consider changing them up to enable an agreement. Look at Bush and the Dem Congress, they both have terrible approval ratings just because they are stuck within the concept of their parties. This is what America really needs, a rejuvination, something to lift us and get us motivated, we need colorful policies, not just the ordinary black and white...

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

May I know what what experience Mrs. Clinton is talking about? Obama and his empty slogans might look nice on a banner but they don't do anything to help our country. How many coalitions has he actually built while in the senate? How many meetings has he held of the committee he chairs? Why should I care what he thinks about the Iraq War when he wasn't even in the senate at that time? Do you honestly believe if people were jumping to their deaths out of a burning Sears Tower that he would still have been unwilling to vote for war. No true outsider can go from a few years in the senate to democratic nominee. Instead of watching a bunch of commercials and media/celebrity people tell me who to vote for, I think I'll make my own choice. That is democracy! Look at Virginia,Colorado, and Wisconsin. I think polls are intended to let the media direct morons with no brains to a canidate that they want you to vote for. Now they are aggressively for Clinton over these last several days because they want the Democratic party to be devided and want this primary to go to the convention so they can have more air time for their massive ego's. If past polls are any history at all, Obama will sweep Clinton in Texas, narrowly beat her in Ohio and I hope this contest is over. This country needs a drastic changing of the guard, no more Bushies or Clintonites and on into the twenty first century. Barack Obama is that change because he speaks from his heart for all of us desperate Americans who are out there barely surving the last seven years of King George. Because she didn't have a prayer. I loved Bill Clinton, but the constitution imposes a 2-term limit for a reason. Everything about the Clintons is purely political. And they're known for NOT exercising the best judgment. Remember Bill wagging his finger in our faces like we were fools, and Hillary blaming his philandering on a vast right wing conspiracy? If that's the kind of judgment her so-called 35 years of experience will bring us, my money and my vote are with Obama. And where are Billary's tax returns? Don't Democrats deserve the same information that people in the general election will supposedly have access to? I'm a woman, and someday, I'd like to see a woman president. But any woman won't do. And every time I hear the Clinton campaign whine that she's being treated unfairly, it makes me cringe. No wonder women can't get anywhere in this country. Who wants a cry-baby for a president? One more thing.... remember the last time a Clinton was on the phone at 2 AM in the White House? It had nothing to do with National Security. Guess what Clintonites? When the president is on the phone in the wee hours of the morning, I want a president who won't be talking to his/her girlfriend/boyfriend - I want a president taking care of the people's business. After 8 years of Bush, why should a Democrat who aided and abetted him on the Iraq war and the Patriot Act be rewarded? Hillary didn't do the right thing - she did what she thought was the right POLITICAL thing. She knew she'd be running for president and didn't want the GOP to be able to call her "soft" on terror. Meanwhile, Chelsea isn't serving in the war her mother voted to authorize. So when Hillary Clinton claims to represent women and families, just remember what she did with the most important vote in her career - she stood with the worst president since Richard Nixon. I'm Joyce R and I approved this message

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

You Clinton slammers and accussers will be damn sorry if your God Obama makes office. Obama seems to be the darling of the press.
CNN's supposively best reporters are so biased, they make me sick. Wolf Blister is such a dud, he knows nothing about politics. The guy that gets about 35,000 E-mails anv hours, so he says, The ones he reads over the air, are all for Obama and the negative ones are for Hilary. What I would give to have Walter Cronkite back for just an hour and get a truer view of what's really happening. I am really scared of this Man Obama and his rightious religious wife.When she said, "For the first time in her life she was proud to be an American". What was she before? They scare the hell out of me.
I am retired and living on a fixed income. God forbid they screw everything up. We need Hilary, at least we know waht were getting. My Family goes all the way back to the Spanish De O'Nate expedition in 1598, that estalished the Percidio in Santa Fe, of what is now New Mexico. My family was here a generation before the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock. We used to be called white until 1960, until some person in Washington woke up one morning and told us that we were bo longer white but Hispanic. Thats OK with me. But Im not Mexican, I have never been in Mexico, nor do I care too. I am proud to be an American of Hispanic origin

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

You Clinton slammers and accussers will be damn sorry if your God Obama makes office. She has gall to insult
   Gen. Petraeus on the surge with her "suspension in
   disbelief" after outsourcing responsibility of
   National Intelligence Estimate to other people
   before voting for Iraq war. She has no compunction
   to lie nor admit personal mistakes as if she is
   our Queen to look down on others.

b) Ready - as the Enabler-In-Chief but not as
   Commander-In-Chief if we include her part of "35
   years experience" in Blackhawk Down, wag the dog
   episode after USS Cole and Monicagate. Where was
   she when all these happened and it they didn't
   even happen at 3:00 AM !

c) Smart - just a mediocre law graduate who flunk the
   Bar Exam, then bragged about knowing Bhutto family
   story by incorrectly saying father was also
   assassinated. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged by
   the military regime that overthrew him.

d) Vetted - refused to release Tax Returns unless she
   is the nominee ! She must have something to hide
   for, so protective of her secret source of wealth,
   when they are personally bankrupt after leaving
   public housing (WH). Won't release her WH papers,
   passing blame for delay to Bush, who denied her
   charges, thus proving as habitual liar.

e) Doer - spectacular flop of Hillarycare is the
   showcase of her doing. She produces less Senate
   output and of mediocre quality than Barack's first
   2 years alone !

f) Talker - Failed to keep her own promise to wage a
   national campaign as she skips a lot of states by
   reason of a bankrupt campaign and resulting in her
   failing campaign. Very good at parsing words.

g) Fighter - code word for divisiveness hiding under
   the cover of waging campaign against special
   interest while hidden hands accept campaign
   contributions. Accumulated biggest campaign funds
   last year but still managed to overspend her
   campaign into bankruptcy.

h) Result - trailing campaign after almost a
   year-long lead among all candidates. Squandered
   all her advantages.

i) Universal Healthcare - mandate is enforced by Wage
   Garnishment despite denial now, as shown on ABC
   network by admitting to a "mechanism" that will be
   (forced employees to enroll) applied on wages. She
   did not deny it when Garnishment was used then,
   but now denies it.

g) Focus management - all talk and never knows how to
   do it producing debacles after debacles and with
   scandals. Hsu campaign fund raiser, Hillarycare,
   Hill Force One to cover Iowa campaign for a 3rd
   place finish, bankrupt campaign resorted to
   personal loan to survive, no contingency plan for
   campaign beyond Super Tuesday.

i) Media Bias - the Clintons are actually suffering
   from Media Adulation Deficit Disorder - MADD,
   another term is pea-green envy. Habitual show-off
   as in last debate on Medvedev where she jumps in
   to answer for the undirected question but has the
   gall to complain why always asking her the first
   question !
Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Super job, Jack Smith from Dallas!
The USA NEEDS HILLARY in '08...for ALL of the smart reasons.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Hillary's 3AM call will say please come get you husdand! Senator Clinton then compounded that 2002 misjudgment by pursuing a 2008 campaign strategy that uncannily mimicked the disastrous Bush Iraq war plan. After promising a cakewalk to the nomination — “It will be me,” Mrs. Clinton told Katie Couric in November — she was routed by an insurgency.

The Clinton camp was certain that its moneyed arsenal of political shock-and-awe would take out Barack Hussein Obama in a flash. The race would “be over by Feb. 5,” Mrs. Clinton assured George Stephanopoulos just before New Year’s. But once the Obama forces outwitted her, leaving her mission unaccomplished on Super Tuesday, there was no contingency plan. She had neither the boots on the ground nor the money to recoup.

That’s why she has been losing battle after battle by double digits in every corner of the country ever since. And no matter how much bad stuff happened, she kept to the Bush playbook, stubbornly clinging to her own Rumsfeld, her chief strategist, Mark Penn. Like his prototype, Mr. Penn is bigger on loyalty and arrogance than strategic brilliance. But he’s actually not even all that loyal. Mr. Penn, whose operation has billed several million dollars in fees to the Clinton campaign so far, has never given up his day job as chief executive of the public relations behemoth Burson-Marsteller. His top client there, Microsoft, is simultaneously engaged in a demanding campaign of its own to acquire Yahoo.

Clinton fans don’t see their standard-bearer’s troubles this way. In their view, their highly substantive candidate was unfairly undone by a lightweight showboat who got a free ride from an often misogynist press and from naïve young people who lap up messianic language as if it were Jim Jones’s Kool-Aid. Or as Mrs. Clinton frames it, Senator Obama is all about empty words while she is all about action and hard work.

But it’s the Clinton strategists, not the Obama voters, who drank the Kool-Aid. The Obama campaign is not a vaporous cult; it’s a lean and mean political machine that gets the job done. The Clinton camp has been the slacker in this race, more words than action, and its candidate’s message, for all its purported high-mindedness, was and is self-immolating.

The gap in hard work between the two campaigns was clear well before Feb. 5. Mrs. Clinton threw as much as $25 million at the Iowa caucuses without ever matching Mr. Obama’s organizational strength. In South Carolina, where last fall she was up 20 percentage points in the polls, she relied on top-down endorsements and the patina of inevitability, while the Obama campaign built a landslide-winning organization from scratch at the grass roots. In Kansas, three paid Obama organizers had the field to themselves for three months; ultimately Obama staff members outnumbered Clinton staff members there 18 to 3.

In the last battleground, Wisconsin, the Clinton campaign was six days behind Mr. Obama in putting up ads and had only four campaign offices to his 11. Even as Mrs. Clinton clings to her latest firewall — the March 4 contests — she is still being outhustled. Last week she told reporters that she “had no idea” that the Texas primary system was “so bizarre” (it’s a primary-caucus hybrid), adding that she had “people trying to understand it as we speak.” Perhaps her people can borrow the road map from Obama’s people. In Vermont, another March 4 contest, The Burlington Free Press reported that there were four Obama offices and no Clinton offices as of five days ago. For what will no doubt be the next firewall after March 4, Pennsylvania on April 22, the Clinton campaign is sufficiently disorganized that it couldn’t file a complete slate of delegates by even an extended ballot deadline.

This is the candidate who keeps telling us she’s so competent that she’ll be ready to govern from Day 1. Mrs. Clinton may be right that Mr. Obama has a thin résumé, but her disheveled campaign keeps reminding us that the biggest item on her thicker résumé is the health care task force that was as botched as her presidential bid.

Given that Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama offer marginally different policy prescriptions — laid out in voluminous detail by both, by the way, on their Web sites — it’s not clear what her added-value message is. The “experience” mantra has been compromised not only by her failure on the signal issue of Iraq but also by the deadening lingua franca of her particular experience, Washingtonese. No matter what the problem, she keeps rolling out another commission to solve it: a commission for infrastructure, a Financial Product Safety Commission, a Corporate Subsidy Commission, a Katrina/Rita Commission and, to deal with drought, a water summit.

As for countering what she sees as the empty Obama brand of hope, she offers only a chilly void: Abandon hope all ye who enter here. This must be the first presidential candidate in history to devote so much energy to preaching against optimism, against inspiring language and — talk about bizarre — against democracy itself. No sooner does Mrs. Clinton lose a state than her campaign belittles its voters as unrepresentative of the country.

Bill Clinton knocked states that hold caucuses instead of primaries because “they disproportionately favor upper-income voters” who “don’t really need a president but feel like they need a change.” After the Potomac primary wipeout, Mr. Penn declared that Mr. Obama hadn’t won in “any of the significant states” outside of his home state of Illinois. This might come as news to Virginia, Maryland, Washington and Iowa, among the other insignificant sites of Obama victories. The blogger Markos Moulitsas Zúniga has hilariously labeled this Penn spin the “insult 40 states” strategy.

The insults continued on Tuesday night when a surrogate preceding Mrs. Clinton onstage at an Ohio rally, Tom Buffenbarger of the machinists’ union, derided Obama supporters as “latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust-fund babies.” Even as he ranted, exit polls in Wisconsin were showing that Mr. Obama had in fact won that day among voters with the least education and the lowest incomes. Less than 24 hours later, Mr. Obama received the endorsement of the latte-drinking Teamsters.

If the press were as prejudiced against Mrs. Clinton as her campaign constantly whines, debate moderators would have pushed for the Clinton tax returns and the full list of Clinton foundation donors to be made public with the same vigor it devoted to Mr. Obama’s “plagiarism.” And it would have showered her with the same ridicule that Rudy Giuliani received in his endgame. With 11 straight losses in nominating contests, Mrs. Clinton has now nearly doubled the Giuliani losing streak (six) by the time he reached his Florida graveyard. But we gamely pay lip service to the illusion that she can erect one more firewall.

The other persistent gripe among some Clinton supporters is that a hard-working older woman has been unjustly usurped by a cool young guy intrinsically favored by a sexist culture. Slate posted a devilish video mash-up of the classic 1999 movie “Election”: Mrs. Clinton is reduced to a stand-in for Tracy Flick, the diligent candidate for high school president played by Reese Witherspoon, and Mr. Obama is implicitly cast as the mindless jock who upsets her by dint of his sheer, unearned popularity.

There is undoubtedly some truth to this, however demeaning it may be to both candidates, but in reality, the more consequential ur-text for the Clinton 2008 campaign may be another Hollywood classic, the Katharine Hepburn-Spencer Tracy “Pat and Mike” of 1952. In that movie, the proto-feminist Hepburn plays a professional athlete who loses a tennis or golf championship every time her self-regarding fiancé turns up in the crowd, pulling her focus and undermining her confidence with his grandstanding presence.

In the 2008 real-life remake of “Pat and Mike,” it’s not the fiancé, of course, but the husband who has sabotaged the heroine. The single biggest factor in Hillary Clinton’s collapse is less sexism in general than one man in particular — the man who began the campaign as her biggest political asset. The moment Bill Clinton started trash-talking about Mr. Obama and raising the specter of a co-presidency, even to the point of giving his own televised speech ahead of his wife’s on the night she lost South Carolina, her candidacy started spiraling downward.

What’s next? Despite Mrs. Clinton’s valedictory tone at Thursday’s debate, there remains the fear in some quarters that whether through sleights of hand involving superdelegates or bogus delegates from Michigan or Florida, the Clintons might yet game or even steal the nomination. I’m starting to wonder. An operation that has waged political war as incompetently as the Bush administration waged war in Iraq is unlikely to suddenly become smart enough to pull off that duplicitous a “victory.” Besides, after spending $1,200 on Dunkin’ Donuts in January alone, this campaign simply may not have the cash on hand to mount a surge.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/24/opinion/24rich.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Heh you all ... the Hill has you all in Hillarious ... just look at the 3 am 'looney tune commercial'... she wares a neckalce & talking to a WHITE pnone'... not RED ... and I wonder where is Bill in this Picture ??? She has gall to insult
   Gen. Petraeus on the surge with her "suspension in
   disbelief" after outsourcing responsibility of
   National Intelligence Estimate to other people
   before voting for Iraq war. She has no compunction
   to lie nor admit personal mistakes as if she is
   our Queen to look down on others.

b) Media Bias - the Clintons are actually suffering
   from Media Adulation Deficit Disorder - MADD,
   another term is pea-green envy. Habitual SHO-OFF
   as in last debate on Medvedev where she jumps in
   to answer for the undirected question but has the
   gall to complain why always asking her the first
   question !

c) Ready - as the Enabler-In-Chief but not as
   Commander-In-Chief if we include her part of "35
   years experience" in Blackhawk Down, wag the dog
   episode after USS Cole and Monicagate. Where was
   she when all these happened and it they didn't
   even happen at 3:00 AM !

d) Universal Healthcare - mandate is enforced by Wage
   Garnishment despite denial now, as shown on ABC
   network by admitting to a "mechanism" that will be
   (forced employees to enroll) applied on wages. She
   did not deny it when Garnishment was used then,
   but now denies it.

e) Smart - just a mediocre law graduate who flunk the
   Bar Exam, then bragged about knowing Bhutto family
   story by incorrectly saying father was also
   assassinated. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged by
   the military regime that overthrew him.

f) Vetted - refused to release Tax Returns unless she
   is the nominee ! She must have something to hide
   for, so protective of her secret source of wealth,
   when they are personally bankrupt after leaving
   public housing (WH). Won't release her WH papers,
   passing blame for delay to Bush, who denied her
   charges, thus proving as habitual liar.

g) Doer - spectacular flop of Hillarycare is the
   showcase of her doing. She produces less Senate
   output and of mediocre quality than Barack's first
   2 years alone !

h) Talker - Failed to keep her own promise to wage a
   national campaign as she skips a lot of states by
   reason of a bankrupt campaign and resulting in her
   failing campaign.

i) Fighter - code word for divisiveness hiding under
   the cover of waging campaign against special
   interest while hidden hands accept campaign
   contributions. Accumulated biggest campaign funds
   last year but still managed to overspend her
   campaign into bankruptcy. Very good at parsing
   words and moving goal post for accepting defeat.

j) Result - trailing campaign after almost a
   year-long lead among all candidates. Squandered
   all her advantages and even her biggest lobbyists
   can help her with her campaign fund raising now !

k) Focus management - all talk and never knows how to
   do it, producing debacles after debacles and with
   scandals. Hsu campaign fund raiser, Hillarycare,
   Hill Force One to cover Iowa campaign for a 3rd
   place finish, bankrupt campaign resorted to
   personal loan to survive, no contingency plan for
   campaign beyond Super Tuesday.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

This lady can even properly run a campaign (11-0 is poor management in my book), then she says 11 states don't matter, then wants to have Michigan and Florida count (when she was the only one on the ballot) because "those state matter". Her husband says he is a champion of civil rights, then makes derogatory comments about Mr. Obama. In her book she heralds NAFTA as a "true success of my husband's administration", then comes to my state (Ohio)saying "I never agreed with NAFTA". Until now I've been willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the whole fearmongering "experience" argument put forth by the Clinton campaign is pretty ridiculous. She's been a senator for just 7 years and before that she was merely the First Lady to a President who himself came into office following a relatively unimpressive stint as the governor of a small southern state. When Bill Clinton was elected President he had no foreign policy experience at all. Prior to being First Lady at the state and national level, Hillary was a lawyer in a small corporate law firm in the small capital city of a small southern state. Where is the source of all this vaunted experience she's claiming.

The only presidential candidate in the last thirty years who could actually claim a career of high-level national governmental and foreign policy experience was Bush 1.

Based on her campaign, her judgement regarding strategic and tactical planning, her selection of advisors and staff, and her financial oversite abilities would all seem to be seriously flawed. In addition, she's apparently claiming skills and experience she does not really have and there's this sense of entitlement that is really annoying.

In light of all this, I'm willing to bet on the fresh perspective offered by Barack Obama.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

JACK NICHOLSON'S YOUTUBE SAYS IT ALL....
http://www.youtube.com/v/tsweXFpfa28
AS ALWAYS.....THANKS JACK....

GO HILLARY  "08"

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Hillary Clinton is the only candidate qualified to be our next president. It is a very sad commentary on the state of this country when a person with zero experience and zero original ideas can hoodwink so many people into voting for him on nothing more than empty words. Folks, if all you need to feel good is a bunch of words, then go buy a hallmark card and let the rest of us vote for a person who can lead our nation out of 7 years of despair that we've suffered under the Bush regime.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

THe only person who has "experience" as President is a former President. I am sorry, First Lady just doesn't cut it. I am very close to my husband, we talk about everything, including his job. We make many decisions together, however that does not make me qualified to do his job, nor would I be able ot truthfully add his job to my resume. The notion is ridiculous and I think that most people see through it. I am tired of the dirty politics, I am tired of her negativity. I know that Hillary is capable, however Obama is just as capable. People just do not like Hillary and that could keep her from getting things done while in office. Lastly, stop criticizing Obama for his rhetoric, many great Americans, who have done great things are also remembered for their great oratorical skills. Obama's ability to inspire and move crowds should not be discounted, I believe that it is a wonderful trait for a future President to possess.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Anyone who really cares needs to go to Hillary.com and donate even ten dollars, I realize we are old, female, poor and uneducated but most of us can afford ten dollars to keep this country afloat!!!!

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

If you can't campaign, you musn't complain!

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Hillary Clinton is all about herself and what she thinks she deserves!

She would rather have John Macain elected president than Obama. She cares nothing about the party!!

I don't wonder about why Biden and Richardson have not endorsed Obama. I wonder why they HAVE NOT endorsed Hillary. I believe the people who know her best and have worked with her and Bill know EXACTLY what the Clintons are all about! Obama's charisma and the message of Hope and Change and forgave him of all inconsistencies as shown by a few facts below:

Avoiding Difficult Decisions/Situations:

In the last debate in Ohio, Senator Obama admitted after being challenged by S. Clinton that he chaired a US Senate Subcommittee to provide oversight on Afghanistan but has not held any hearings for over a year. When the question about Russian President Putin’s successor, Mr. Medvedev, came up, S. Obama did not want to be the first candidate to answer it and was happy to concur with S. Clinton’s comment. S. Obama was not “present” when the time came to vote on the issue of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, either! He also admitted that he did not do anything to stop the US Congress when they tried to stop Terry Schiavo’s ex-husband from disconnecting her feeding tube and regretted it now because he should have known better as a professor in Constitutional Law (his own words). As a state senator in Illinois, Senator Obama voted “present” more than 60 times. How many times will he vote “present” as a US president? S. Obama seems to have the tendency to avoid difficult decisions/situations. Do we really want him to be our President now when the country has to face so many difficult problems???

Iraqi War:

The Iraqi war is President Bush’s war from the beginning. Based on the information available to her at the time, Senator Clinton decided on a reasoned and sincere judgment (her own words) and voted to authorize the president to use military force as the last resort against Iraq after exhausting all diplomacy means and after allowing UN inspectors to do their jobs in Iraq. The whole country was misled by Mr. Bush and his administration anyway with dubious intelligence. Senator Obama did not vote on this issue because he was not in the Senate at the time. S. Obama said: "I'm not privy to Senate intelligence reports. What would I have done? I don't know. What I know is that from my vantage point the case was not made.” New York Times 7/26/2004. How can he now claim to be right about the war when he already admitted not knowing what to do then? The war has not been going well for the US because of poor post-invasion planning by Donald Rumsfeld and his staff anyway. As far as voting record on the war goes as a US senator, Senator Obama voted like Senator Clinton on continuing to fund the war. Senator Obama is a veteran politician with all the complicated political trappings. It is self-righteous and opportunistic of S. Obama to now claim to be right about the war. Please listen to him carefully and watch out for his inconsistencies before making a decision to cast your vote.
Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

The Obama campaign gives Sen. Obama credit for every bill he introduced or signed on as a co-sponsor, whether or not they became law.

In her time in the Senate, Hillary has sponsored 21 bills that have become law including:

— a bill that extended the availability of unemployment assistance.

— a bill which established a program to assist family caregivers.

— a bill that provided benefits to public safety officers who were killed or injured during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

But Hillary’s accomplishments in the Senate are not limited to bill sponsorships. Among her many other legislative accomplishments:

— Hillary worked with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to expand access to health care for the National Guard and Reserve.

— Hillary passed an amendment that created a national program for teacher and principal training and recruitment.

— Hillary used Senate rules to force the Bush administration to make emergency contraception, also known as Plan B, available

The reality is, since Sen. Obama joined the Senate (applying the same standard the Obama campaign applies to Hillary) he has sponsored two bills that have become law:

— a bill that sought to promote democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

— a bill that named a post office.

~~~~~~
Sen. Obama and Hillary have almost identical voting records on Iraq:
In fact, Obama’s Senate voting record on Iraq is nearly identical to Clinton’s. Over the two years Obama has been in the Senate, the only Iraq-related vote on which they differed was the confirmation earlier this year of General George Casey to be Chief of Staff of the Army, which Obama voted for and Clinton voted against. [ABC News, 5/17/07]
As a Senate candidate in November 2003, Sen. Obama said he would have ‘unequivocally’ voted against war funding because it was the only way to oppose Bush on Iraq:
“Just this week, when I was asked, would I have voted for the $87 billion dollars, I said ‘no.’ I said no unequivocally because, at a certain point, we have to say no to George Bush. If we keep on getting steamrolled, we are not going to stand a chance.” [Obama remarks, New Trier Democratic Organization forum, 11/16/03; Video]
But until he ran for president, Sen. Obama supported every funding bill for Iraq. [2005 Vote # 117, HR1268, 5/10/05; 2005 Vote # 326, S1042, 11/15/05; 2006 Vote # 112, HR4939, 5/4/06; 2006 Vote # 239; 2006 Vote # 186, S2766, 6/22/06, HR5631, 9/7/06]
Obama campaign advisor Susan Rice falsely claimed that Sen. Obama and Hillary have voted differently on Iraq since joining the Senate. Rice claimed these vote differences reflected Sen. Obama’s “different position” on the war:
JANSING: Bill Clinton made the point that in the senate Barack Obama voted exactly the same way that senator Hillary Clinton has on Iraq, and is there a vote where they took different positions?
RICE: Yes, they have taken different positions from the beginning…Since coming to the senate, he has been very clear in pushing every year 2005, 2006, and 2007 for a withdrawal of our forces. Senator Clinton took the view for a good part of that period that it would be premature and unwise to signal that the U.S. was prepared to withdraw, to set a timeline or a deadline.
Actually, with the exception of Sen. Obama’s vote to promote Gen. Casey, one of the chief architects of the war, his voting record is exactly the same as Hillary. Hillary and Sen. Obama have never voted differently on troop withdrawals, timelines or deadlines.
Full list of votes available here.
~~~~~~

Sen. Obama blasted the energy policy developed in secret by Vice President Cheney:

Washington’s failure is the failure of a president who spent most of his time in office denying the very existence of global warming – of a Vice President who developed America’s energy policy with a secret task force that opened the door to oil lobbyists and then shut it to every other point of view.
Sen. Obama failed to mention that he voted for Dick Cheney’s energy policy, the 2005 Energy Bill.

~~~~~~
Sen. Obama claimed he voted against the amendment on the 2005 Bankruptcy bill because he thought that a ceiling of 30 percent interest for loans on credit cards was too high:
Absolutely. It is a fact because I thought 30% potentially was too high of a ceiling. So we had no hearings on that bill, it had not gone through the banking committee.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Sen. Obama was planning on voting for the measure until a colleague noted, ‘thirty percent is sort of a random number’:
To some liberals, the proposal was a no-brainer: a ceiling of 30 percent on interest rates for credit cards and other consumer debt. And as he left his office to vote on it, Obama planned to support the measure, which was being considered as an amendment to a major overhaul of the nation’s bankruptcy laws. But when the amendment came up for a vote, Obama was standing next to Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.), the senior Democrat on the banking committee and the leader of those opposing the landmark bill, which would make it harder for Americans to get rid of debt. ‘You know, this is probably not a smart amendment for us to vote for,’ Obama recalled Sarbanes telling him. ‘Thirty percent is sort of a random number.’ Obama joined Sarbanes in voting against the amendment, but they lost the larger battle when the new bankruptcy law passed by a lopsided 74-25. There remains no federal ceiling on credit card interest rates. Obama’s deferral to Sarbanes was just one example of the freshman senator learning to navigate a chamber famous for its egos. [Chicago Tribune, 6/12/07]
Sen. Obama did end up voting against a ceiling of 30 percent interest for loans or credit cards:
Obama voted against and Hillary voted for a Dayton, D-Minn., amendment that would set a 30 percent ceiling on interest rates for loans or credit cards. [Vote 20, S.Amdt. 31 to S. 256, Rejected 24-74: R 0-55; D 23-19 (ND 22-16, SD 1-3); I 1-0. CQ, 3/3/05]
~~~~~~

In 2003, Sen. Obama said that he would support a repeal of the U.S. PATRIOT Act:

Q4. Would you vote to repeal the U.S. Patriot Act?” A. “Yes, I would vote to repeal the U.S. Patriot Act, although I would consider replacing that shoddy and dangerous law with a new, carefully crafted proposal… [Illinois NOW questionnaire, 9/10/03]
In 2006, Sen. Obama to extend the PATRIOT Act:

The Washington Post said of the reauthorization, “[T]he Patriot Act fight started with promises of major changes and ended largely with the status quo.” Obama himself said the bill only “modestly” improved the PATRIOT Act and failed to do enough to protect civil liberties. [HR 3199, Vote #29, 3/2/06; Washington Post, 3/7/06; Obama Floor Statement, 2/16/06]
~~~~~~
Sen. Obama suggested he made his opposition to Kyl-Lieberman clear ‘at the time of the vote.’ From the debate:
Blitzer : This was an important vote you missed the, you weren’t present in the senate when that vote occurred.
Obama: This is true and it was a mistake - one of the hazards of running for president. What I have consistently said and what I said at the time of the vote was that we should not take steps that would increase two presences inside Iraq with an eye towards blunting the impact of Iran. I always think that’s a mistake.
Sen. Obama missed the vote and said nothing at the time the vote occurred. His campaign didn’t release a statement until 9 hours after the vote. The vote occurred at 12:44PM. Sen. Obama didn’t issue a statement until after 10PM.
The issue also came up at a presidential debate that night, and Sen. Obama didn’t mention it.
Sen. Obama voted present 129 times on a wide array of issues, including choice, privacy for victims of sexual assault, and school violence. In fact, the Obama campaign claimed that Sen. Obama’s present votes were part of a legislative strategy but failed to mention that Sen. Obama was the lone present vote on a number of key issues.
~~~~~~

THE ABUNDANCE OF NON-VOTES:

Sen. Obama’s Present Votes By The Numbers

Sen. Obama voted ‘present’ 129 times while in the State Senate. [New York Times, 12/20/07]

In 1999, Sen. Obama voted ‘present’ more often than he voted ‘no’: According to state records, Obama voted ‘present’ 43 times in 1999, while voting ‘no’ just 29 times. [ilga.gov]

At least 36 times, Sen. Obama was either the only State Senator to vote present or was part of a group of six or fewer to vote that way. [New York Times, 12/20/07]

Other Present Votes of Interest:

Sen. Obama was the only State Senator to vote ‘present’ on a bill that sought to protect the privacy of sex-abuse victims, and the only state senator to not support the bill. [HB854, Passed 58-0-1, 05/11/99]

Sen. Obama was the only State Senator to vote ‘present’ on an adoption bill that imposed stricter requirements for parental fitness, and the only State Senator to not support the bill. [HB1298, Passed 57-0-1, 5/6/1999]

Sen. Obama voted ‘present’ on a bill that would increase penalties for the use of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. The bill called for the mandatory adult persecution of a minor at least 15 years of age being tried for using a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. [SB759, Passed 52-1-5, 3/25/1999]

Sen. Obama voted ‘present’ on a bill to prohibit the presence of adult sex shops near schools, places of worship, and day care facilities; bill allows local governments to regulate the presence of adult sex shops. Because from where I'm sitting, anything less than a direct quotation from either Clinton or Obama at this point, which is being offered as their statements are in fact...hearsay. Regardless of whether you think Obama is being exceptionally represented in the media or Clinton has been severely disserviced by it (even I admit this issue is highly debatable) there is no doubt on my mind that if there was objective evidence that Barack indeed bragged about "making white people swoon", the national media would all but jump for joy. The CONTROVERSY would win out over any kind of favor he may or may not hold with some of the major media outlets.

As for the gender vs. race issue, can we please put that debate to race. It's just as insulting to insinuate that black people are voting "for their race" as it that women are "voting for their sex/gender". If we're really aiming for technical accuracy, Barack Obama is as equally WHITE as he is black--I highly doubt that anyone would seriously frame his notable support among white males in this way.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Four years ago while watching the presidential debates between George W. B.O. is brilliant, and dedicated to reshaping how politics works in America, and undoubtedly he can do it. But many people want to see a long, padded resume, no matter how ineffective or objectionable, because it seems more risky to go with what you don't know than to go with what you DO know but don't really like. I'm a pretty risk-averse young person, but I am soooo incredibly frustrated with how politics happens in America that the last thing I want is a candidate whose resume was created by participating in a system that I cannot respect. I'm taking my chances on Obama--because ANYTHING different from politics-as-usual could help this country start thinking differently about how we do things and think about ourselves here. Please think hard about this, guys! We clearly need to CHANGE the way we think about American power, war, diplomacy, civil society, internationalism, and human rights. Please, American voters, give him a chance!

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

In talking abou money - Obama says he does not take federal or obbyists money - no true - all campaign take federal money - directly and indirectly - Obama takes it indirectly - via "bundlers". In fact his Florida Finance Chair - is a bundler! A canadian born "bundler"

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

Hillary Clinton is a fighter for the hard working middle class which makes up more then half of the people of America. People like us no matter what your race, religion, or background struggling with the rise
of health insurance, food, gasoline, and energy costs, are tired of seeing the last eight years under President Bush hurt us in our wallets. This so called stimulus package we are going to receive may help pay some outstanding bills, credit cards,etc. This is not going to stop the high costs of gasoline, food, and energy bills from going through the roof. If we don't elect a fighter like Hillary Clinton we might as well kiss any chances of coming out of this hole goodbye! Senator Obama's smooth speeches will never work or fool our Congressman or Senators. As for Senator McCain, he has stated that he is not sure about anything on our economy. Sadly our great American Troops will continue to stay in a no win situation war in Iraq. America please don't let our great country fail,especially for our children's future. Vote Hillary Clinton our next fighter and commander of our country.

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

The "You might be an idiot" post clearly demonstrates that people are confusing Senator Clinton's experience with that of her husband, and she capitalizes on that misconception. In that post, Bill Clinton's name is mentioned in 7 out of his 9 points, but remember, former President Clinton is not on the ballot this time.

While it would be great to have a woman in the Oval Office(I am a woman), I prefer to wait for one that has a strong record of her own. We have a growing number of women governors and women in the Senate and the House, so my fellow women voters should not fret. That day will come.

Honestly, I believe that if Senator Clinton actually had the experience advantage (over Obama) that she claims to have, she would be flooding the airwaves with a glowing list of legislative and policy accomplishments. Instead, we have have rumors, innuendo, scare tactics, and people insulting Obama's supporters. They made a huge deal about getting additional debates. When two more debates were added, no new or substantial information emerged from her or Senator Obama. Instead, time was wasted arguing about word choices (reject and denounce). By the way, Senator Clinton has yet to reject or denounce racist and anti-Semitic remarks made by her supporters, even one day after that debate:
1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8sRgQsXSMk
2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wnPHFSdrME

While Senator Clinton is certainly not out of this race, I am puzzled by the trouble that her campaign has had running against the so-called "novice". With the combined expertise of Bill and Hillary Clinton, her campaign has gone through major staff turnovers, financial problems, and now a misunderstanding with the Texas delegate distribution (over which they implied that they might sue). They have been through at least 2(maybe 3) gubernatorial campaigns, 2 presidential campaigns, and 2 senate campaigns. Yet, this campaign blames everyone else but themselves (too many blacks for Obama, media bias, delusional voters, stripped delegates, Republicans trying to fool Democrats, etc) for their current position. By the way, we Floridians were stripped of our delegates in August of last year, but Senator Clinton didn't make noise about it until January, when things started looking bad in other states.

I also looked into those "35 years of experience", and I found a significant discrepancy in the math. When I researched her work for the past 35 years, this is what I found:

1973-graduated from Yale Law School; 1973-1974 staff attorney for Children's Defense Fund; 1974-1977 Served on the House Judiciary Committee; 1977-1993 Attorney at the Rose Law Firm, which represented large corporate clients such as Walmart and Tyson Foods, 1993-2001 First Lady worked on Clinton Health Plan(which failed with a Democratic Congress in 1994); 2001- present, US Senator.

Within the 35 year time frame, I can find 10-12 years (this includes her 7 years in the Senate) where she may lay claim to being a decision-maker in public policy, foreign policy, or national security.
This is roughly equivalent to Senator Obama's years of experience. Actually, Senator Obama been held an elected office longer than Senator Clinton, and he has been a legislator at the local and national levels. He was not nationally known until his appearance at the 2004 Democratic Convention. However, Senator Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1998, whereas she was elected to her first office (the US Senate) during the 2000 election. Senator Obama was elected to the US Senate in 2004.

Senator Clinton has many laudable achievements (child advocate, women's advocate, corporate attorney). However, her claim of having an experience advantage over Senator Obama is a gross exaggeration. After the Health Plan failed, she spent more time in the role of a spokesperson (commendable) but not as a negotiator or policymaker. Senator Clinton has been able to sell this "35 years of experience" claim because of her name recognition, her visibility as First Lady, and her age difference with Senator Obama. If you are basing your vote upon this widely-repeated but overstated claim, I invite you to investigate it for yourself. I don't accept things at face value, and I don't expect anyone else to do so.

Here are a few excerpts from a Dec 26 2007 article in the New York Times:

But during those two terms in the White House, Mrs. Clinton did not hold a security clearance. She did not attend National Security Council meetings. She was not given a copy of the president’s daily intelligence briefing.

Asked to name three major foreign policy decisions where she played a decisive role as first lady, Mrs. Clinton responded in generalities more than specifics, describing her strategic roles on trips to Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, India, Africa and Latin America.

Asked to cite a significant foreign policy object lesson from the 1990s, Mrs. Clinton also replied with broad observations. “There are a lot of them,” she said.
****************************************************

I refer you to the full article in Senator Clinton's hometown newspaper (New York Times):(http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/26/us/politics/26clinton.html?pagewanted=all)

You may also be interested in this Jan 24 interview on National Public Radio's All Things Considered:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18391632

Dead heats in Ohio and Texas

The Clintons blew it on 2 late night call, and dozens of Americans died, right here in the US, due to their mismanagement.
