The red phone rang and rang and rang again. I don't know where Hillary was then. But her husband and his entire experienced foreign policy team - from the brass in the Pentagon to the congenitally feckless Secretary of State Warren Christopher - just let it ring.

And as more than one researcher has amply documented the case, the bloody paralysis of the Clinton administration in the face of the Rwandan genocide owed not at all to a lack of information, but rather to a lack of will. A reviewer of Power's book for The New York Times, perhaps summed it up best, saying that the picture of Clinton that emerges from this reading is that of an "amoral narcissist."

Former Canadian General Romeo Dallaire, who commanded the UN forces in Rwanda at the time of the genocide, tells us a similar story in his own memoir. General Dallaire recounts how, at the height of the Rwandan holocaust, he got a phone call from a Clinton administration staffer who wanted to know how many Rwandans had already died, how many were refugees and how many were internally displaced. Writes Dallaire: "He told me that his estimates indicated that it would take the deaths of 85,000 Rwandans to justify the risking of the life of one American soldier." Eventually, ten times that many would die. And our response? A handful of years later, at a photo-op stopover in Kigali airport, Bill Clinton bit his lip and said he was sorry.

Therein resides the richest and saddest irony of all. Samantha Power has actually lived the sort of life that Hillary Clinton's campaign staff has, for public consumption, invented for its candidate. Though not quite 40 years old, Power has spent no time on any Wal-Mart boards but has rather dedicated her entire adult life rather tirelessly to championing humanitarian causes. She has spoken up when others were silent. She took great personal risks during the Balkan wars to witness and record and denounce the carnage (She reported that Bill Clinton intervened against the Serbs only when he felt he was losing personal credibility as a result of his inaction. "I'm getting creamed," Power quoted the then-President saying as he fretted over global consternation over his own hesitation to act).

We gave Power the Pulitzer for exposing the, well, monstrous indifference of the Clinton administration as it stared unblinkingly and immobile into the face of massive horror. But we give her a kick in the backside and throw her out the door when she has the temerity to publicly restate all that in one impolite word. Monstrous, indeed."

Reporter stands by work

I am not saying it was right or wrong for her to quote her remark. But I believe that when you deal with journalist you make sure you know what you are saying. Yeah! yeah!! he is quitter and all that crap, but i do not think we deserve him at all. Not in the bit. You see, we are so dumb beyond comprehension that Clinton is actally counting on our stupidity. If we ever showed any sign of intelligence, she will scorn us for it. When she declared that she will be running for the presidency, she said, i,m running to win and boy! she is running to win. I wish Donald Trump enters the race and tell us he intends to put us first. We are used to being abused and frankly we love it. We are intellectually lazy and we are getting dumber by the day. So i say, Obama you are too real for us and you are straight forward and that is not our cup of tea. We love cunning, lies, cheating, empty promises and we like to be made afraid of other people. If you really need evidence of how stupid we americans are, all you need is to look back 4 years ago and see that we re-elected an incompetent named George Bush. We need Clinton or McCain in the White house as our president because you see we like our politicians to have a total hidden agenda that is only personal to them and we dont want to participate in their thing. We just love to complain about it. That is all we love to do. Thank you for running though. To all my Clinton supporters, did i miss anything or should i throw in one of your usual insults at Obama. Both the Clintons are monsters. None of the rules apply to them. Hillary can pick a favorable state to call "home", purely for political reasons, and become a Jr Senator for a state she's never lived in. Can you think of one other presidential candidate EVER who pulled that off? Now, she is pushing for a re-vote in Florida. Rules, regulations, laws just don't apply if your name is Clinton. It is sick, and sad that our country is saddled with the caliber of candidates we have to choose from. Jimmy was one of the worse, while Bill was considered a good one. How is this possible? Before 1968 we had many fewer primaries held for the nomination process of a Democrat candidate. Most of them JFK, FDR, Wilson, Truman, and Johnson were chosen to be the candidate by the party bosses after just few primaries. The party bosses chose the nominee that would be the most electable in the general election. Judging their list, they have chosen better than the recent average voter. Look at who the average voter has elected: Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry, none of which were able to win.

After the 1968 convention, and after letting the average voter elect Carter through country wide primaries in 1976, the DNC had reforms which created the superdelegates. This year we held many primaries which we haven’t held since 1976 and look what it brought us. It proves the average voter does a poor job picking a candidate, as they generally steer toward likability, inspiring promises, and a pretty oratory. This is what lead American to Carter and it is happening again with Obama.

Obama-- like Carter--is not ready at this time to be president; he will have more experience, knowledge, and insight in about 8 years. Currently, we need a tough, decisive, president who is a fighter, and a democrat. Obama has my vote in 2012 but not in 2008; Hillary has it now.
Reporter stands by work

Her most damaging comment, which I suspect got her fired was about Iraq, i.e. not to expect Obama to rely on plans formulated during the campaign. NOTHING is off the record with a reporter. They are not your friends, they have a job to do.
