Obama's message is sound. He was never for the war, stood against it when most and Hillary authorized it (without reading intellegence reports), wants to pull troops out within 16 months, wants to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.
Which means that he reserves judgment to handle unforeseen circumstances.

Can we pull this thorn we call Hillary out of our side yet?

Once again, it looks like Senator Obama is telling voters one thing while his campaign says those words should not to be mistaken for serious action.

After months of speeches from Senator Obama promising a hard end date to the Iraq war, his top foreign policy adviser that counseled his campaign during that period is on the record saying that Senator Obama will "not rely on some plan that he's crafted as a presidential candidate or a U.S. Senator."

Voters already have serious questions about whether Senator Obama is ready to be Commander-in-Chief. Now there are questions about whether he's serious about the Iraq plan he's discussed for the last year on the campaign trail.

Senator Obama has made hard end dates about Iraq a centerpiece of his campaign and has repeatedly attacked Senator Clinton for not being clear about her intentions with regard to troop withdrawal.

It turns out those attacks and speeches were just words. And if you can't trust Senator Obama's words, what's left?

This latest incident is part of a larger pattern where Senator Obama doesn't deliver on the promises he makes on the campaign trail -- whether it's his 2004 Senate race or his 2008 White House campaign.

In 2003, Senator Obama said he was for a single payer health system, but now opposes plans that cover every American. He promised to repeal the Patriot Act, but then voted to extend it. He promised to normalize relations with Cuba, but flip-flopped when he started running for president.

In 2008, Senator Obama rails against NAFTA in Ohio while his top economic advisor assures the Canadians his rhetoric is just "political positioning." He promises to opt in to public financing if the GOP nominee does, but then breaks that pledge in real time. He promises to withdraw from Iraq within 16 months, and now his top foreign policy adviser says that he's not relying on the plan.

With a short record to run on, Senator Obama's entire campaign is based on the speeches he makes on the campaign trail. So when he and his advisers dismiss the plans he touts on the stump, it undermines his entire candidacy.

Americans have heard plenty of speeches. It's time they got serious solutions and that's what Hillary is going to deliver when she is President.

I've been watching the campain since Iowa and am concerned how the Clinton's have constantly changed their approach to voters. It's almost like the way Bush sold us the Iraq war.
Using every possible slur to sell voters on her right to be President. If use say "EXPERIANCE" for long enough people will start to believe it.

She is a politician of the 80's and 90's and has a base who reflect that time.
We wouldn't have noticed her old style if it wasn't for the refeshing tone Obama brought to the campain.
Hopefully we can move on from this school yard mentality that is more about personal attacts than stance on particular policy.
If she manages to get the nomination it will be by using tactics from the past and we will be reverting to politics of the past and be left isolated from the world at large.

I would just like to say that no matter what indecisions people may have between our two candidates, each of them need each other to capture the White House in the November election. It does not matter who I believe is the best candidate (I believe that they are both capable of doing what is in the BEST interest of the Democratic Party). When it all comes down to it ( according to all the polls, which by the way everyone should remember that they are only polls and these polls have been WRONG at times) it will come down to the Super Delegates. There are still some 800 Super Delegates who have not decided their vote and as we have seen in the past they tend to sway in the direction which best fits THEIR needs.

My fellow Democrats do not be influenced by the Republican Parties undermining. The Republican Party has much to LOOSE in this election. It is almost certain that there will be a Democratic President governing the United States in 2009. Keeping this in mind the Republican Party will work on converting any vote to create dissention within the party so that we can not agree on who is our best candidate. Thus creating the “United we Stand – Divided We Fall” scenario. This is a Republican Party Members dream. Divide the Democratic Party, keep the White House and hopefully maneuver the Senate and House of Representatives into the favor of the Republican Party. Remember this is not about who controls the White House more so than Who controls the Oil! People should ask themselves why we are paying so much for Oil when we have been in control of the Region for quite sometime. Callifornia is at $4.00 a gallon - Unconscionable!

I am willing to predict that Daddy Bush and Juniors hands are right in the middle of all of this…(mostly Daddy cause Junior is missing some cards) always remember that Daddy Bush was the only President who was Director of the CIA before he became President. Junior invaded IRAQ based on the purpose of assassinating Saddam (remember the Mission Accomplished Speech) and keeping their hands as deep as possible to create as much wealth for them. Disagree – another prediction I will make is that JEB Bush will either be on the list of VP’s for the McCain ticket or will become part of the Cabinet – hmm let’s see Secretary of State or better yet Secretary of Defense.

The best case scenario for the Republican Party is to keep the house fighting against one another. By the way people should not be fooled by supporters who are backing the two candidates. Each of those supporters have been promised something whoever they may be and yes even my girl OPRAH. Love her to death but she’ll likely get some kind of benefit from her endorsement.
Remember this: She’s a Monster & He’s a Muslim. But if you put the M&M together it makes a great piece of candy and everyone I know pretty much loves M&M’s.

I see the same names here on FirstRead posting day in and day out defending Obama. What is it with you guys? affirmative action jobs in the government and you can post on blogs at work, or between classes in college due to getting preferential treatment to get in to the school or is is just that you are on the welfare rolls and have a lot of time on your hands? I applaud Congressman King from Iowa for his comments about "dancing in the Street" if Obama should be elected president. His middle name and it is his middle name "Hussein" does matter.

says whites caused 9/11 plus gives Louis Farrakhan a medal of honor. Obama is up to his ears in corruption in the Rezco case and this is beginning to unravel just today in that trial. Obama's friendly relationship with Terrorist Bill Ayers and his terrorist wife, the saying one thing in the campaign on the stump and privately telling other countries to ignore it, that he does not really mean it. Auchi the Iraqi businessman who paid for Obama's house, and so much more that there is not room or time to post it on here. Obama has continuously said we have to be "as careful getting out of Iraq, as we were careless getting in", and his former advisor has acknowledged the fact that he would not base his withdraw plans on those formulated at this present time, but rather after meeting with the commanders on the ground. Hillary, on the other hand, say she will begin the withdraw within "60 days". Now which of these 2 responses seem to show a better since of judgement and common sense? Let's be truthful here. Senator Obama is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual tactics, mindset, and practices of both Hilary, and McCain. Both are what we know as the status quo of the Washington political establishmnet. Hence contrary to change.
Republicans and Hilary use out of context quotes of news, comments, and anything that they can feed to the news hungry media. The media sucks it up and spews it to the unsuspecting attention deficit public. Yes, they believe it. That gives the media more time to slowly straighten it out. Again in the short sound bites that the public may or may not pick up on.
Any time the Clintons says something, the media repeats it. Whether they think it's true or not. This past week I've seen Hilary use the media like a tool. This reminds me of the coverage that the media gave the Republicans concerning the Swift Boat rhetoric. Please media, wake up. Report the facts from both sides. Report the positions from both sides. Give the public the chance to use some critical thinking for a change. We can "think" you know.
Hey, how about replacing the hype with facts and accomplichments of all the candidates. Let's compare records and deeds. Be newsworthy, or worthy of "reporting" the whole news.

Yes to the 'Shame on the Clinton Camp'! I totally agree - Wolfsen misrepresents every time he opens his mouth. The Obama camp should definitely call for his resignation. You have my vote on that. And Hillary Clinton and her staff will do or say anything to get nominated. To answer another question, it is taking THREE CLINTONS to take on ONE OBAMA! The Clintons' are what I would categorize as pitiful.

No person in the Clinton camp told Power what to say and yet it is clear that she said something, and the something she said was that Obama would not withdraw troops from Iraq in 16 months as he has stated more than once both on the stump and in debates. The issue is not Iraq policy because the policy as stated by Power is almost identical to the Clinton policy. The issue is credibility and the documented record supports the Clinton claim of Obama being inconsistent.

Both Obama and Clinton are great candidates and both are nearly identical when it comes to policy. As voters we must make a choice between the two based on their behavior and what they say on the record.

Some Obama supporters like to argue what is not being argued. Did Obama say he would withdraw our troops within the first 16 months or not? Did Power say the Obama camp would stick with the plan or not? Did Obama give the impression that he would re-negociate the NAFTA treaty within the first two months of his term or not? Did his representative tell representatives from Canada that Obama's position should been seen within the context of his campaign in Ohio or not?

Many objective observers find Obama's positions in public are not consistent with his positions in private. Clinton is simply pointing out these inconsistencies as a way of drawing a contrast between herself and Obama. I think most agree that this type of behavior is what one might expect a political candidate to do.....compare herself to the person against whom she is running.

Let's see here:

Hillary said she would begin pulling out troops after 60 days in office. She felt a brigade or two per month with everyone being out within 1 year.

A brigade is 3000-4000 troops

There are approximately 160K troops and another 100K contract workers over there.

8000 troops X 12 months = 96000 troops. That leaves 60K troops and another 100K contract workers. I can't make the math work at getting all the troops out in a year.

Check Obama's words. He said he will get the troops out as safely as we were careless getting into the war. You votes hear your candidate say something and then attribute it to the other guy. makes no sense to me.

Here's another one. hillary and Obama both say they would look at revising or pulling out of NAFTA but the only one being asked to explain his stance is Obama. Go figure.

Why is time as an elected official, travel overseas, law experience, financial problems with her campaign and previous support for a Republican candidate for President okay for consideration for Hillary but time as an elected official in Illinois and in washington, serving his community, law experience, teaching of constitutional law, and running a stellar campaign seems to make him unqualified?

What has changed since then? Clinton's presumptive place as the nominee. Who is speaking out both sides of their mouth? The person that has always maintained the need to react to the situation when you get in office or the person who advocated that and has since changed position?

It's a matter of public record you shouldn't need a press release from the clinton or Obama campaign to write the story. You are journalists you are supposed to remember what was said last september and if someone moves the bar you should note their moving of that bar as news.

In short the ehadline should be about Hillary's about face on the issue and she should be being asked when she changed her mind about the president needing the freedom to adjust withdrawl tactics to the realities on the gorund when she takes office. Then you can ask her for a hard timeline plan on Iraq not the I'll ask my generals how to do it answer.

Inically, didn't just about all of congress vote for the war based on the bogus information given to them? What is the big deal if Clinton was for or against the war? The only candidate in either party to vote against it was Ron Paul. If I can recall there were 14 or 15 canditates to begin with. The issue is who will bring our troops home and when. Nine Billion each week is excessive for a country that is in recession. Take 20 thousand of the troops and send them to Afghanistan. Try a surge there and pinch them from Pakistan. The billions we gave them should allow a door for us to be open to our troops. In the mean time, take the funds for the NAFTA super highway and earmark those funds for a proper border between us and Mexico. Seal our borders. Its time that the USA go on defence. Sen. Hillary Clinton I believe shares many of my views and that is why she has my vote. Was Obama in congress when the vote took place? If not he should not distort his record and should say I could not vote against the war because I was not in office. If he was in office, he would probably abstain from the vote just like his home states assembly.
