African Americans are not not voting for Hillary because she is white. We are voting for Obama because of his stances, policies, and his integrity. I attended one of his rallies, and I was very impressed with him. I looked around and there were people of all races and ethnic groups. Everyone appeared to be on the same page. It made me feel really really good. I am an African American with a graduate degree. I have attended luncheons, parties, and other social events with caucasian co-workers. but I never felt that there was a real connection. While I was at that Obama rally, for the first time I felt a real connection. It made me feel really good, and for the first time, I felt proud to be an American. I am not saying that I hate this country, that has never been the case, I just never felt that I was completely a part of it. I say this because it appears that white america is extending its hands to black america whole heartedly. I finally felt embraced. It was beginning to seem as though racism was dying out, and was not as bad as I thought. But after witnessing all that the Clintons have been doing and the comments on this blog, I guess I was wrong. And I say this with a sincere sad heart. I almost feel like crying. Black people have always voted for white people, but the moment we vote for another black person, it is called racism. Does that seem fair to you. Since white americans out number black americans, probably half of his votes are from blacks and the other half from whites when you look at the actual numbers. I guess I was bamboozled. I thought America was changing. But, I do want to thank the white americans who have seen past the color of our skin and see what we are truly capable of doing.

Although it goes without saying that you can’t boil a person down to his/her race—we are all so much than the sum of our parts, including our skin color, an integral part of who Obama is is due to the richness of his background and heritage, his race.

I have read that Obama has always felt like a bit of an outsider because he straddled two worlds--the world of his white Kansas heritage and of his Black Kenyan father. His years spent living in Hawaii and in Indonesia have made him who he is--someone dedicated to bringing people together despite their skin color or beliefs.

So, yes, Obama is African-American and has surely gotten votes because of his skin color (from white people as well as black people), but none of that changes the fact that he is as successful and inspiring as he is not simply because of the color of his skin, but because of how his heritage has molded him into the impressive, intelligent man he is today.

While you can technically argue that were he a white man, he may not be where he is today, were Obama a white man, he wouldn't be the man we are so inspired by. To imply that he has succeeded merely because of his skin color simplifies and overlooks the beautiful complexities of his background and the degree to which he represents so many of us, regardless of what color we are.

I am so proud of my state for choosing Obama, and yes, that is in part because he is a black man. This is extremely important to the future of our nation. We need to cross this line, and this is the man who can, will, and should do it.

Part of the 'real' problem in America today is the 'chip on the shoulder' attitude of some with regard to some topics. Does this mean that Obama is unqualified due to his mixed race . . . No! Does it mean that Hillary is unqualified due to her gender . . . No. But there is no denying that these are there in front of everyone and they do make a different . . . good or bad . . . a difference. A 'good leader' in my mind won't take advantage of this . . . which neither Obama or Hillary can take claim to . . . they both use their particular 'situation' to suit their desires which is to be the nominee for the Democratic party. The best thing that either candidate could do is to acknowledge themselves as to who they are and what impacts, good and bad, that this may have on their campaigns and America in general. During Senator Obama's first 8 eight months of elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.

He introduced 233 bills regarding healthcare reform,
125 bills on poverty and public assistance,
112 bills on crime fighting,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
In his first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:

And in fact from the above-referenced quotations, it does not appear that the Obama campaign is asking that she be removed only that her riduculus statements be denounced. At the beginning of this campaign, I gave everyone the benefit, though I personally didn't like Hillary, though I had no serious problem with Bill. I didn't know anything about Obama at all. After weeks of the race, Hillary has run out of the benefit of the doubt I had given her. I honestly wanted to give her a chance, so that I felt good about supporting her as the nominee if she got it, even though I support Obama. At this point, she has made it nearly impossible for me to do so. I may be voting Republican for the first time in my life. I believe that Geraldine Ferraro's comments are on target. As an African-American female, I know that many of my African American friends are voting for Barack Obama solely because he is a liberal Black Democrat. Had Barack Obama not been in the race, African-Americans would have largely gone for Hillary Clinton. I know of very few African-Americans who supported any of the White male Democrats during the 2008 primary. Many feel that our time has come to have our first Black president, and we're going to claim it. As a result, I do believe that Geraldine Ferraro is correct in her assessment. I do not think that it is a crime to have an honest discussion about race, which I believe is what Ferraro was doing. Barack is Black, and it is a major factor in his appeal to African Americans.

There should be no doubt that Ferraro’s comments were out of line and obviously even more so than Powers’ ‘Monster’ comment. Because Powers was connected with the Obama campaign, her comment was inappropriate and her apology and resignation therefore justified. At least as much should be the response from the Clinton camp but once again we see Hillary downplaying the negatives that apply to her, even when she accused Barak of not being emphatic enough regarding Louis Farrakhan. The real point of interest here is the double standard that seems to be continually encouraged and rationalized by the Clinton campaign; as if whatever they do, dirty politics and all, is okay but the media and the Obama campaign are suppose to give her every consideration and also hold to a higher standard of conduct themselves. When Clinton tries to justify this special and unfair consideration on the basis that she is a woman, it seems to play very thin and simply be an effort to manipulate with more spin. I wonder if it could ever be possible for her to run an honest, high integrity campaign based on the facts and on mutual respect, rather than always trying for irrational, dishonest and unfair advantage with deceptive efforts. I’m curious and would like to address the question to the women voters who are so loyal to and protective of Hillary Clinton and simply ask, WHY? I’m really not trying to be a smart guy and do actually understand the value and agree with wanting feminine representation, and to include truly fair treatment for those women who do run, yet should the loyalty be blind protection and include someone who simply doesn’t deserve? There are qualities women process which are assets for public office, for both in their performance and in benefit for their constituents, but Hillary simply doesn’t demonstrate them. Maybe not a monster but just saying it is because she is belligerently tough and men just can’t accept that isn’t accurate either. Look at her history and you will see considerably more aggressive and combative outbursts than conciliatory or considerate gestures. She literally is far more divisive than she is a negotiator. The sensitivity, intuition and understanding that you might expect all seem to be consistently missing and then everything always seems to be just obstinately about her. Isn’t it reasonable that there is sound basis for the strong feelings, and yes even the dislike, of Senator Clinton? I really suspect that her personality, a strong sociopathic personality like GWB I might add, has far more to do with it than her gender. I would really hate to see her defended for the feminist cause with the result being that we end up with the wrong candidate.
