MSNBC Morning News this morning had a "breaking news" line that says "Clinton Sorry, Ferarro not" They go on to talk about how Hillary "apologized"...they then played a clip of Hillary Clinton saying about Bill's Statements "I'm sorry IF PEOPLE WERE OFFENDED..."

That is not an apology - That is the biggest non-apology out there, and it is condescending to the voters. She's NOT sorry for the statement or for the sentiment - She IS sorry it may lose her votes, because people might be offended. There is a HUGE difference.

Oh, and there is another prominent politician we all know and love that refuses to admit when he's wrong, and it has been a huge disaster....George W. Bush.

By playing the race card, Obama's supporters are sending a message to both his supporters and his detractors.

Obama supporters are in a frenzy attacking anyone that supports Clinton as out of touch "baby boomers". Isn't Obama a baby boomer?

Politics is a fight and so far Clinton keeps tagging Obama with punch after punch while Obama whines and cries. What he is getting hit with is compounded by the fact that the media has now been shamed (as they should be) into asking him tough questions that he tries to avoid answering.

If he is the nominee, he will get pummelled by the Republicans because so far Obama appears to be unable to take a punch or hit back. He can't close the deal.

I do think damage has been inflicted on both sides but I'll leave it at that.

For whatever Ms. Ferraro did for this country in the past, if she continues to inject herself into this race in the way she has done over the past few days, she does it at the Democratic party's peril.

That's unfortunate, but I'm moving on.

Clinton benefits from this "racial rift" on which the news keeps reporting and given the tactics of her campaign, it would not surprise me if this whole flap is strategy. Sick.

I honestly don't think there is anything to it - yet. I thought we'd finally gotten to a point where a candidate can run a post-racial campaign. Then came Hillary's narcisistic despiration. And I wish the media would stop stirring this particular pot, no good can come of it.

The problem is she made a racist remark and got called on it, and can't understand why anyone would be upset.
The sad thing about it is she is in denial because she made the remark, but got mad because reports picked it up. So therefore she claims this is an attack on her by Obama. If that is the case then it must have been Jesse Jackson's doing that caused her to say the same thing about him back in 1988.
Let's face it Gerry, you got away with saying it back then because there was no 24 hour News cycle, but you can't get away with that type of thing anymore without getting called on it. If Ms. Ferraro thinks that Senator Obama is the frontrunner in the Democratic race simply because he is a black man and that this is a "statement of fact", then she is insulting every one of his voters of being unable to see beyond race. As Keith Olbermann of MSNBC said, Ferraro's statement is "ugly in its overtones, laughable in its weak grip of facts and moronic in the historical context".

Ferraro conveniently omitted another statement of fact: Senator Clinton is not a very good candidate. Her claimed experience is all vicarious. She hasn't passed any substantive bills in her 7 year Senate career. Her staff was picked for reasons of loyalty, not talent or effectiveness. And, yes, she did not bother to read the National Intelligence Estimate before voting for the war. Is it possible that Senator Clinton is "lucky to be who she is", because any other candidate with such an unimpressive resume would surely have been given any chance whatsoever.

That would have made Hillary almost 70 years old, in effect shutting the door on Bill and Hillary returning to their kingdom/queendom.

Honestly, did Ms. Ferraro forget that Obama had to win in Iowa before he could get to states with significant black populations? Has she forgotten that prior to Iowa, Clinton was winning among blacks? If she hasn't, then I can only assume that she thinks all of Obama's votes were "white guilt" votes. The implication then being that Obama's merits do not begin to compare with Hillary's; that he's the benefactor of some kind of electoral affirmative action and nothing more.

One more thing - give the vote back to the people - 1 person = 1 vote. We must do away with delegates, super or otherwise and count the popular vote - no matter who it helps - because that is the will of the people - AND get rid of the electoral college for the general = we all have access to information and know these candidates better than at any time in history. It is time we have a true democracy here in our beloved U.S.A. All primaries should be held on the same day to avoid undue influence, just as the general elections are. Both Hillary and Barack started off this race by vowing not to use the issues of race and gender. That's exactly how Democractic voters wanted it. After over 7 years of a disasterous Bush administration, we all recognize the need to get things back into order.

The moment Bill Clinton compared Obama's campaign to Jesse Jackson's, Hillary's surrogates, with the help of the media, made this all about race. Surrogates talked about how Latinos wouldn't vote for a black candidate, they released photos of Obama in native African clothing, and one recently stated that he is where he is because of his color.

To my knowledged, I don't know of any Obama surrogate who has made an issue of Hillary's gender. Both Hillary and Barack promised to not make an issue of race and gender.

Hillary didn't keep her promise.

Personally, I don't think that remarks racist, but race-baiting. Just like I believe that a lot of white women are voting for Hillary because she is a woma, but I am not a sexist. I am a woman. The comments that Ferraro made, in my opinion, were made clearly to get whites to support Hillary because she is white, because blacks support Obama because he is black; that is 'race-baiting.' The Clintons are trying to win regardless of the consequences, and this is why I find this issue so appalling. They are willing to split the party by dividing white women, blacks, and hispanics. They are the democratic base! She is willing to sacrifice the democrats chances in November for her own personal gain.

I think that Geraldine Ferraro voiced what a large number of people think. Only we are so caught up in being politically correct that there is no honest dialogue about race and gender in the Democratic nomination process this year. Any time you are critical of Obama you are considered racist. Once the Republicans start attacking Obama John McCain will have to spend his entire campaign disavowing statements and firing people. Certainly Obama's campaign will be crying "racist" at every turn. I go back to the Iowa primary when Michelle Obama said "we won and there ain't no black people in Iowa". That set the tone right there that the Obama campaign was going to play the race card. Why couldn't she have said we won because Barack is the better candidate!!

Chris Matthews did his best last night to try and give Ferraro a pass using the last portion of her statement as a defense against the same. That people have grabbed on to this concept of having the first African American as President. Matthews should know better based on similar comments that Ferraro has used in the past regarding a person having accomplished what they have because they are Black. She gets no pass.

I am convinced this was a ploy by the Clinton camp to use for the PA primary knowing the attitudes of some folks in PA and attempting to drive a greater wedge between these people and their predjudices and Obama. Ferraro was used because she could not be damaged. She has no political future due to her age, she did not hold a high level position in the Clinton camp so could be sacraficed, she is a well known woman in politics and played the poor me defense as a way of increasing Hillary's support among the females in PA. There is no doubt this was a planned event by the Clinton camp. I hope it backfires.

And I take my earlier suggestion back about sending people from Obama, Japan to PA to teach some of the folks in PA some tolerance. Based on the most recent polls showing an increase in Hillary's lead in PA it is apparent that many in PA have hardened their lack of tolerance and would most likely end up running these poor visitors from Japan out of town. Let's move on to NC.

I have caught wind that Republicans are writing on these blogs. They are intentionally becoming an Clinton supporter that hate Obama supporters and vice versa... They are changing there party to Democratic so they can vote in the upcoming primaries.

They have found a weak spot in this Democratic primary thus far. They see the opening to divide us... They have been the ones that have been feeding race and gender into our politics.

Clinton supporters & Obama supporters I urge you to unite! Let us not be against each other!!! Let us join forces and fight together to get out of the war in Iraq and make much needed changes in Iraq and at home!

Obama and Clinton differ so slightly on policy... This fight is mostly about personality. Also one difference is a top down mentality versus a bottom up. Either way they have good intentions.

Please I urge everyone: Obama and Clinton Supporters to unite with whoever is the Democratic Presidential Nominee.

Let's change the tone of this race TOGETHER. We can support our favorite nominee at this point. But let us do it in a less divisive manner. We can point out what we like about our choice, and try to say one good thing about the opponent.

I love America and I love what these two candidates see for our future.

I have been one of those supporters that bashes the other opponent. But i have seen what has done to me and to others. I have even said "oh if the opponent gets the nomination I will not vote for that person, I will stay home or vote for someone else"
Then I asked myself "what do I want for the next 8 years" It definitely was not McCain... and I am sure if Clinton and Obama supporters asked themselves that same question the answer would be similar.

Haven't you ever not said something that was true because you did not want to offend someone or make them feel sad? It is just common courtesy and respect of other people. As an Obama supporter, I do not support him because he is black; that had nothing to do with my decision. I support him because he is the only candidate that can offer our country ANY sense of change. When they say he is inexperienced, I see that as a good thing. If you are ingrained in "politics-as-usual" in Washington, you can expect the same old thing. I prefer to see what this young man can bring to the table. At the very least, it will be fresh, new ideas and strageties and how can THAT be wrong for our nation? I am not against Hillary because she is a woman. I'm against Hillary because she represents the "same old thing", as does John McCain. My support was quite simple. Something new, not the same old thing. I never considered this to be such a difficult decision for many of you out there. I also never condsidered it to be a black or white issue, let alone a gender issue. It truly isn't if you look at it with a little commen sense. It's the difference between new and old. Period. For those interested, I'm a 58 year old white woman.

Dear Mark Murray and First Read staff,

As a political junkie it is frustrating to me that all this highly paid pundits fail to pick up on the glossed over inaccurate statements of politicians like Ferraro and worse repeat them like the truth. I hope you guys will do a better job of informing the public.

Here is my beef:
Ferraro saying that Obama's situation is no different than hers when she was selected as a running mate for Mondale. There is a huge difference being SELECTED by some one or some party to run as a running mate versus entering a race as an individual and advancing forward by beating your competitors based on the votes you receieved from the voters. Obama was not SELECTED by some individual or organization to represent the democratic ticket.In fct, we can argue some candidates were unhappy with him because he had the gut to run when it was 'not his turn'. Ferraro was SELECTED by Mondale or the party for strategic reasons such as to appeal to women and to show the party's willingness to become a trail blazer. They could easily have selected somebody else for other strategic reasons such as geography etc..

But on the other hand, Obama EARNED it by running against a group of well known candidates who had establishment backing by the power of his message and the genius of his organizational and planning skills.

So, next time when Ferraro says there is no difference between her VP stint and Obama's accomplishment the media needs to correct her and set the record straight.
