Why? Because he is going to be speaking to white racists, who will never, ever be pleased with what he has to say. People in this country do not listen to themselves when they speak. That is unfortunate. Because if they took a minute to be honest, they would know that they are using the Reverend to bring down Senator Obama.

How is it possible to throw away a good candidate for one {Clinton}who never took the time to think about what the Bush Administration was doing. And now 4,000 Americans have lost their lives. This isn’t about putting together a Health Care package. This is about thousands of people dying.

Yet people in this country are more afraid of the Reverend than they are of Hillary Clinton’s judgment.

This country will never change as long as we have Sean Hannity, Bill Kristol and their like on the air waves. They are despicable people.

Where is the educated, sophisticated media in this country who will have the courage to speak up? Well, there’s Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow. Anyone else?

No. We’re back to square one. And people in this country are allowing this to happen. Again.
First thoughts: Obama's big speech

"If Obama can't hit a homerun on this speech today, then he won’t be president." This is a bit of an overstatement, don't you think?

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

It is fascinating to note some people urging others not to listen to Obama.

When people actually listen to Obama, the vast majority realize he is exactly the person we need for president. At first – when Edwards
was the most popular candidate there – they tried very
hard to stoke disagreements between Edwards and Obama
supporters (the Clinton bloggers accurately saw Obama
as their horse’s real obstacle to the inevitable
nomination). The bombastic way they went about it only
ended up helping guide Edwards supporters to support
Obama once Edwards was out of the race.

Some of the crap they pulled was downright comedic.
There was a blogger by the handle of “BerkeleyVox”
that each day posted a diary with the Rasmussen daily
tracking poll numbers (showing Clinton twenty points
ahead or so)....'

Does this sound like silly little vanreuter and his
'Truth Pack' ?
All his pompous postings...
All his national polls ......
Until Iowa !!

Where are you van ?

Too chicken sh*t to admit your candidate has lost ?

Poor little pompous van.....
Don't be a stranger....

'...The point of that, other than to shout “she’s
inevitable!”, was lost on me. Of course, when the
tracking poll narrowed and then flipped, he stopped
posting those silly diaries.

The blogger “Alegre” had a kind of Tiger Beat fawning
fan club tone to her posts (if anyone ever wrote so
tirelessly and unconditionally highly of me, I’d worry
that it was a stalker). One of the funniest moments of
that saga came last September 11 – right after Clinton
money-bundler Norman Hsu had been arrested and brought
to jail – when “Alegre” began hijacking various
diaries there insisting that in the name of the fallen
of 9/11 there should be no criticism of candidates on
that day. That transparent effort to censor bad news
about her candidate betrays her current claim of
somehow being “censored.” In fact, Kos never censored
her or her compatriots at all. Nor did he censor their
critics, the sharpest of which have been former
Edwards supporters and a (first-time-ever on DKos)
influx of African-American diarists at the site that
have pointed out the many times when the Clinton
bloggers have used nasty racial code in their
diaries....'

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

Do you have any solid evidence that Edwards plans to endorse Clinton over Obama?

Most sources expect Edwards to endorse Obama.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

###RALLY ALERT### "Count our Votes" Rally ,with Congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz, "today" Tuesday March 18th., 11:30 A.M.,Riverside Hotel,620 E.Las Olas Blvd.,Fort Lauderdale,Fl. 33301

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

What makes people so high-and-mighty to condemn a man based on a few thirty second sound bites? Clinton down.man no bias here.Any way to me this speech means diddley. He wouldnt take questions from press but will give speech. His writers will give him what he needs to tell everyone about how he feels what he knew. His wife is going to be there I hope he doesnt let her speak so she can defend there pastor and she can tell us how bad this country is. We know where that came from anyway. Will he tell us about the window opening light pouring out and angels singing we will get an epathany and we will all believe him like he did in Iowa.I hear there are more tapes. They will be after his speech and than he can use that silver tongue again. I would have believed him more had he taken questions instead of relieing on writers.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

When will Joe Scarborough and his ilk start playing soundbites of the Republicans' favorite ministers, Robertson, Falwell, Hagee and the rest? They have said a lot of similar things.

Having said that: there is no excuse for racism from any race. None. Especially from Christian Ministers.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

Question - if the Florida Democrats killed any chance of re-vote in that state, does this mean that the DNC can decide to honor the results of the January primary, and seat the delegates based on those results? If so, no a single Obamabot can complain. Unlike in Michigan, Obama was on the ballot in that state. And despite the rules against campaigning in that state, he did just that by skirting around the rule and airing campaign ads on TV stations in neighboring areas he knew also served Florida areas. Therefore, should the DNC forgive Florida for breaking the rules, which it should since the Florida democratic primary was held in a such a manner because of the republicans who control that state's gov't, then we should just accept it, and move on.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

Obama is in a box, and his candidacy is in the balance. In fact, it is nearly over. What he will attempt to to with his speech today is to convince all of us that he didn't know what was going on in his church of 20+ years, and he had no idea of the racist and separatists views of both his pastor and his church. This from a man that says he has better judgment then Clinton, Edwards, or Bush. How he could know what was going on in his very own church appears to be a lie of epic proportions. The words used in Pastor Wrights church, and by Pastor Wright are no different then those used in militant mosques that are stirring up American hatred and recruiting for terrorist organizations. There is nothing taken out of context that can defend what Pastor Wright said, and what Barack Obama had to have know about. It is going to be very difficult for Obama to explain how he is not associated with Pastor Wright and his preachings since Obama is on record saying that Wright is his mentor.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

BEFORE THEY SEND OBAMA TO THE DOGS PEOPLE BETTER READ TODAYS HUFFINGTON REPORT. Nobody I've talked to seems to be that concerned with the Wright story - except republicans, and who cares what they think.

People seem to instinctively know that no church would survive if all they preached was a diatribe of hatred. Obama doesn't need to explain to me why he's a member of any church. And I find it really insulting that people question why he and his family remain members of the church. He denounced the most inflamatory talk, but he didn't have to. HE does not believe these things. HE does not live these things. But he understands the residual anger among an older generation of African Americans and their right to express it still. I only wish the msm would get a clue.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

"As he told PBS’ Gwen Ifill yesterday, noting he comes from a white mother and a black father: “It’s in my DNA to believe that all of us have something fundamental in common.” "

He is correct, there is more that unites us than divides us. It is also correct to observe that because he has a black father and a white mother he has the credibility to stand against the former racial divide in this country. The exact same speech he will soon deliver would not have the same meaning or the same power if delivered from someone with a less unique circumstance - like his oponent.

That is what the original comments were supposed to mean...they unfortunately were taken out of context and spun out of control to the point that we now have a 'King-like' speech coming from the candidate for hope and a vision of change. I see this only uniting many people for Obama. Which goes back to the fact that 'he wouldn't be in this position if he wasn't a black man' - words from Ferrero.
First thoughts: Obama's big speech

It’s not a speech on unity that we want to hear – its HONEST answers to legitimate questions, like:

You had to disinvite Rev. Hillary is grounding not only the Democratic party but the Country into the dirt. Shame on the news media, shame on all of us.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

Where the hell are Hillary's tax returns!

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

OMG how many words are we going to hear? Wright has not behaved that way only on two occasions, he has behaved that way for years and that type of behavior is offensive and deplorable and should not be tolerated.

Moreover, Obama should be condemed, but not for a few thirty second sound bites, but for allowing himself to be advised and influenced by Rev. Shall we question you as to why you would support and expose yourself to such people? Do you speak to your children (if old enough) regarding your support of the Clintons who have not be the bastilles of honesty throughout their political carrers. If you have a daughter do you tell her all that lies behind the Clintons and why you support them yet leave out the truth and how Hillary's husband and closes advisor has no respect for females and who was clearly dishonest with you regarding his immoral behavior. Does such behavior not rub off on Hillary? Should we be seeking some HONEST answers from her about that? Where are her and Bill's tax returns.

You question Obama's judgement and character based on who he keeps company with but give Hillary a pass for keeping company with a husband who looked you straight in the eye on national television and lied to you. What are your assurances that he and she (with he being her closes advisor) will not do so again? So you are willing to put into office someone who keeps company and counsels with another who without a doubt was dishonest with the Amercian people?

For those who support Hilary your double standard amazes me. You want to pin Obama to the wall because you think he is not being honest? Fine, so be it. But by God you had better take a look into your own camp and also be looking for some HONESTY from the Clintons.

None of you. NONE OF YOU, deserve honesty and answers to questions about a canddiate's honesty unless you are willing to seek some answers from both sides. Does Obama owe you some answers. Perhaps he does. But by God so do the Clintons. I don't see you Hillary supporters demanding some honest answers from her. Why she lies by stating that Obama's Iraq policy will be different after he is elected because an advisor stated he might have to change stratgey if world events require the same with Iraq. She is so deceitful it stinks. Yet you give her a pass. And if that is how you want to play your double standard my repsonse would be that Obama owes you nothing. NOTHING!

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

J. This is the man that SHOULD be president. He is a uniter, not a divider and one cannot compare the integrity of this man with the gutter play of the Clinton's. This man has class and so far ahead of George Bush or the Clinton's that he would turn heads around the world by speaking to them with words that actually make sense. He hit the issue of race head on and didn't skirt the issue. He has always had my vote and will get it again in Nov. Thank you, Barack, by taking a risk today and speaking from the heart.

First thoughts: Obama's big speech

YES WE CAN! On MyDD (http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/3/16/18411/2283) they are debating the possibility that a compromise could be reached by Harry Reid, Howard Dean, Al Gore, and Nancy Pelosi. Essentially, Reid retires as Senate majority leader and backs Hillary Clinton for that role. The price? Hillary withdraws from the race and a bloodbath at the convention is avoided.

Because the Senate has more power than the House of Representatives, for example, voting on confirmations such as federal judges, she would then be the second most powerful politician in the USA after Obama. Even with a McCain presidency she would have a huge amount of power because McCain would be facing a Senate with around 55 Democrats or so - he could not get anything done without having Senate's approval - therefore he would need to rely on the Senate majority leader to prevail.

Clinton is apparently a popular senator (with other senators) and grasps the intricacies of how the Senate works - it could be a consolation prize that she could find acceptable.

That being said, Clinton won't go for such a deal until she is convinced that she has absolutely no chance of winning. That could happen possibly after the North Carolina and Indiana primaries.
