Raleigh, N.C. – Hillary Clinton has cut Barack Obama’s lead in North Carolina to one
point, according to the newest survey from Public Policy Polling.
Obama leads 44-43 in the state, after leading by four points in a similar poll conducted by
PPP two weeks ago. Clinton has particularly made gains with female voters, with whom
she now has a slight lead after trailing in the previous poll.
“Some folks in the national media have been treating North Carolina as if winning it is a
given for Barack Obama,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The
reality is that the state is pretty close, and either candidate could emerge with a victory.”
Recent PPP polls in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida have shown Obama struggling in
the wake of the recent controversy surrounding his pastor.
The survey also found Richard Moore gaining 17 points from a poll two weeks ago to get
within a 44-34 margin of Bev Perdue.
“That’s the power of television,” said Debnam. “Richard Moore’s new ad, launched in
the last week, has clearly caused some movement in the polls.”
In the Democratic race for US Senate, Kay Hagan continues to hold a double digit lead
over Jim Neal. Hagan is at 22% to Neal’s 11%, followed by Duskin Lassiter at 5% and
Marcus Williams and Howard Staley with 3%.
PPP will have a new poll every week between now and the primary for the major
Democratic races in North Carolina.
PPP surveyed 521 likely Democratic primary voters on March 17th. The survey’s margin
of error is +/- 4.3%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may
introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

This is not dienfranchisement, this is a group of people who are punishing some of their own for breaking rules that were all agreed upon by all parties concerned. Disenfranchisment means your right to vote has been taken away or that you are otherwise not allowed to vote(see felony conviction). The vote will not be accurate now, many democrats voted in the Republican Primary because they were told their vote would not countin the Democratic Primary. Reviewing the Florida and Michigan crisis, I suggest one go to http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/09/hillarys_brier_patch.html to get a head start on this. There was also an article somewere on the web exploring this issue, and it points out that Hillary intentionally stated that she'd abide by the DNC's rules and that Michigan "won't count for anything".
The point is that if Obama does not lead her in the popular vote, she won't have to concern herself with Michigan. But because of the present outcome -- that Obama is the likely nominee given his 150 plus delegate lead -- Hillary wants to not only overrule the DNC as its major candidate, but also put aside her previous stance and change her view in accordance with this current outcome so that she may attempt to win the election by painting Obama as the self-centered candidate standing in the way of voters.
In effect, Hillary seems to be employing the same strategy as Karl Rove. I am certain that if she was the likely nominee (and she was considered the inevitable candidate prior to the start of the primary seasoN) and led Obama in the count for the pledged delegates, she won't have to do anything about the situation in Michigan and avoid being labeled "hypocrite" for agreeing to abiding by the party's rules but then claiming the rules "disenfranchise" voters when the outcome of the primary voting season is not in her favor.
I hope her supporters will wise up and do their own analyses and support their arguments with facts, not hatemongering and fearmongering.

They are all politicians so who wanted what is not important at this point. All Americans deserve to vote and have it count. Have we learned nothing from 2000? How short our memories are.

I was all for Obama last year but questioned his ability to be President early on and switched to Edwards then Clinton. She has my support all the way. I do my research on who I vote for...I just do not listen to the media. I believe that Obama is just all talk...his supporters see him through rose colored glasses. "The best speech ever" I have heard people say. Are they insane? Do they not get it? He was saving his a** like every other politician would do. He was just taking the focus off of the real issues. What experience does he bring to the table? What has he actually DONE? Why did he not make the race speech to his Pastor of 20 years?

If Hillary does not win the nomination, I will have no choice but to vote for McCain. He should pack his bags...it is so obvious that the Democratic Party is going to fall apart. The Senate Dems just had a long caucus meeting following their long phone call with the Gang of Four [as Carl Levin and others pushing a re-vote are called], and the result is that no one moved. Votes aren't there. Thus, it will not go to a vote in the Senate. And barring some other last minute miracle that doesn't involve those four, the governor and Hillary traveling to Michigan, it is dead as a doornail.

Please spare us more of the blood sport the Clintons’ are playing. I hope that the Obama campaign does not agree to any kind of “re-do” in Michigan and especially now that Florida has decided not to do a “re-do”. It is pointless because it 1) would sacrifice principle, 2) will not change the numerical outcome, 3) and in the case of Michigan not doing a “re-do” won’t have any long-term ramification, 4) would contaminate what has been, so far, a clean process.
At least in Michigan they don’t have the Republicans to blame for their mess.
If the Clintons had the numerical advantage that Obama has they would not agree. As you read this, they are trying to sabotage an honest process in Texas. They were refused a request to delay announcement of the results of the caucus in Texas, knowing full well that will move Texas to the Obama column.

Why is one of the architects of the decision - Harold Ickes - a prominent figure on her campaign? Presumably she should want to fire him for robbing these voters of their rights.

At the time of the Florida and Michigan primaries Edwards and Richardson were still in the race but not on the ballots. Clinton's camp sent a letter Friday asking that the March 29 conventions at the senatorial district or county level — the next step in the state's hybrid of a primary election and caucus — be delayed until signatures from the conventions held March 4 could be verified.

The party said no. "The overwhelming majority of problems reported in Texas do not affect the legitimacy of delegates allocation," Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie said in a statement. "The Texas Democratic Party will not do as suggested by one campaign and circumvent party rules to set up an unnecessary, ad hoc 'verification' process that could effectively disqualify delegates selected at their precinct conventions after the fact."
