From NBC/NJ’s Aswini AnburajanGREENSBORO, N.C. -- Obama defended his controversial former pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright today, on the heels of statements by Hillary Clinton that she would have left Wright's church had she been in Obama's place. Obama

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

As a typical white person I an in no way upset about Obamas' minister. I feel that his pastor doesn't make who he is.He is only a small part of his life and influences. I don't feel he hates white people or that his pastor hates white people. There are divides in the country and we need to realize that.Obama gave that great speech on race and I feel he knows that racial divides are out there and it gives him a great way to open the line of communication on this issue.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

I want this man to be my next President!

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

A DISTRACTION? How ironic. Obama has been using pretty speeches to distract us from his hatred of America, whites and jews.

Obama should be removed from office and forbidden to run for president. He cannot be president of a country that he, his wife, and his uncle figure/spiritual advisor despise. Obama obviously was in synch with the racist hatred spewed in his church. He HAD to be. HE CHOSE TO BE A MEMBER FOR 20 YEARS! The videos show the crowd in a frenzy of applause and support for Rev. Wright's hate-filled ranting. The pastor's audience was not shocked and appalled - they were invigorated and shouting in approval and in agreement like this is what they had come to hear. "God D*mn America!" The crowd went NUTS in its support...

Wright is preaching racial division, hatred for America, hatred for whites and Jews... And this man is like an uncle to Obama - his mentor and spiritual advisor? This is some crazy @ss sh!t going on here. And then there is Michelle Obama. Finally proud to be an American? Where is the video of Obama and his wife applauding to this Rev. Wright HATESPEW. There has to be one somewhere.

The scariest thing about the all of the videos was not the words that Rev. Wright said – but the Hatred that he projected and the Hatred that the crowd willfully reveled in. It was a RACIALLY DIVISIVE HATE FESTIVAL – and the crowd was shouting and gyrating in approval and excitement. Barrack Obama attending these sermons for 20 years. He willfully subjected himself and his family on a regular basis for 20 years to lectures like these about racial hatred.

Imagine that much hatred and racism in the President of our country. Obama may be the worst candidate to ever run for office with this going on. I cannot imagine a more racially divisive man in the White House after this "Pastor Disaster". And I cannot imagine a crazier candidate for President during a terrorist age. He has Muslim ties AND he has been conditioned by his uncle figure/spiritual advisor to hate whites, Jews, and America. What the heck is going on? And his middle name is HUSSEIN? I thought George W. Bush was the worst thing that could happen to our country. I was wrong. Barack HUSSEIN Obama is as scary as his name sounds.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

MSNBC, please show the entire sermons that the offensive remarks were taken from. Those comments were taken completely out of context. Wright may be critical of US foreign policy, but to say he is anti-American is irresponsible. He might focus too much on the plight of "his people" for some folk's taste, but to say that the US is run by "rich white people" is not racist. It's an undisputable fact. Sure, there are many of black, hispanic, asian and native american elected officials in this country, but very few are in high positions like governor, senator, and congressperson, and none have ever been president, vice president, or majority or minority leaders in the Congress.

http://baldeagle08.wordpress.com/2008/03/21/cnn-msnbc-cbs-abc-fox-news-lied-about-pastor-jeremiah-wright-see-911-sermon-in-context/#comment-106

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

I have listened to two of the sermons in full. There has been distracting media focus on statements by supporters of Hillary and her memory lapses, instead of comparing her policy plans for our nation and Obama's policy plans.
Although regarding Rev. Wright and making a conscious decision to befriend and attend his services, that does relate to a candidates' judgment and character.
Judgment and character are part of the criteria to make a decision about who would be the best choice for our Commander-in-Chief, and who would be the best ambassador to the international world and have the credibility to gain the respect of world leaders. Then this issue becomes more than just a distraction, but one of many judgment calls or choices that the "Leader of the Free World" will be required to explain to the rest of the world when they look to the United States to set the example of "one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Barack Obama is SO NEEDED in the Oval Office! His support of that garbage for 20 years helped held a sector of black people in bondage, not allowed them to be responsible for their short comings and blamed the white people. He helped held them in bondage by sending them the message that said they were inferior to white people and always will be. And have the nerve to blame me. Shame on him. Rezko
Sen. Obama wrote letters to city and state officials urging them to fund a Davis-Rezko housing project. Rezko contributed millions to the Obama campaign, yet Obama only returned $85,000. Why didn't he return all the money.

2. Barack Obama and former Weather Underground honcho William Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer. Khalidi serves on the faculty of Columbia University in New York and is best known as the professor who invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to visit Columbia University after he finished his speech at the United Nations. According to confidential sources, Khalidi has direct ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a group on the US State Department's list of known terrorist groups.
William Ayers was also major fundraiser for Obama and they both sat on the board of The Woods Fund. In 2002, Obama participated in awarding grants through The Woods Fund, including a $70,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, a Chicago-based group founded by Rashid and Mona Khalidi.
In another suspected quid pro quo arrangement similar to those with Ayers and Davis-Rezko, Rashid Khalidi also held a fundraising event in his home for Barack Obama.

In the Middle East, Rashid Khalidi was known as a man to be reckoned with. From 1972 through 1983, Khalidi was the director in Beirut of the official Palestinian press agency, FAFA.
According to sources, when the Khalidi's left Chicago for Columbia University in New York, Rashid was honored with the Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at that Ivy League university. Their goodbye party in Chicago included testimonials from Bill Ayers and Barack Obama.
"If he was to be President, how much would he look the other way when dealing with national security and dangers to our country? How much would he listen passively to terrorist leaders then lecture us on our ugly American status? This kind of change is not what our country needs!"

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Basically. Obama to suggest that he was not aware of the statements made by Rev. Wright on several occasions is disingenuous. The fact that he had made some attempts to distance himself from Rev. Wright early in the campaign is a significant indication he was aware of Rev. Wrights controversial statements.

For me it has nothing to do with race, religion or freedom of speech. Rev. Wright has the right to lead his congregation as he sees fit. The individuals of the church have the right to remain members, attempt to instigate change from within the church leadership, or leave the fellowship in search of a new church. For Sen. Obama to remain a member and not to speak out until now when he is confronted with the inconvenient truth is inexcusable.

For an elected official to stand by when an individual of authority in his chosen church makes blatant anti-government misstatements, and not to speak out is a strong indicator of a lack of character. Rev, Wrights statement implying that the government invented the HIV virus to kill blacks is simply false, and for Sen. Obama not to speak out until now is a disgrace.

I have personally made the decision to change places of worship in the past when the leader made statements that I found to be unacceptable. It is not a decision anyone takes lightly. It requires strength of character to standup for what is right, and to lead by example. Leadership when it counts, and change to someone you believe in.
Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

people should watch the whole sermon before passing judgement.rev. wright was also quoteing a white man who was on fox news the night before. i hope people understand we have something special in obama.i hope the american people are smart enough to see it

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Enough already about Rev. How could any one think he would know what was going on in the World.

Wake up America...you're being Bamboozled.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

MARYLOU, LK. Bush were members of Rev Wright's church, look at the mess their decisions have gotten America--NAFTA, IRAQ, IMMIGRATION, etc. Usually, a bill we thought was nill can resurface in another. Congress has approved Homeland Security plans to spend 468 mil. in fee money over three years on the backlog of application to hire 1,000 workers, overtime and train workers. "Summer Naturalization Could Lead to Fall Votes" reveals "some immigrants who sought U.S. citizenship amid an application backlog...become American citizens ahead of this year's presidential election The Bush administration top immigration official has revealed. Dir. Emilio Gonzalez has said those who applied in June should be citizens by end of Sept. In all the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) has received 7.7 million applications in fiscal year '07. It has taken steps to move along the "backlog". A 650% increase from '06. (read the article)The Dir of Natl. Assoc. of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials wants states with high Latino populations to delay voter registration deadlines for its newest citizens. The "backlog" is being expedited under Title 8, "Backlog Reduction", Title 8 (CFR), Dept. of Homeland Security (Immigration and Naturalization). Obama reminds me of the political stance Christ took. He worked for political, social and economical change. He too inspired the masses who were being misused by those in power. Understand, our problem is not about racisim, instead it's about capitalism. We know their policies are destroying the "middle class" and the "working poor" all races included. Also recruited for citizenship are visas for individuals with advanced degrees, etc. The "race card" is a political tactic. Looking at Obama background, all he has done stands true to what he campaigns on. He has empathy and his work proves he is a Server of Humanity. How can the man be racist, was raised in Kansas by his "white grandparents". He only saw his father once after leaving him at two years old. I read the wealthy don't agree there is a need for "Change". They have homes, insurance, can educate their children, etc. McCain is a continuation of George w. Bush's administration. Troops remaining in Iraq, mean spending more time away from family, including children and spouses. That's sad. May God forbide but more lives maybe lost or handicapped. The youth may be drafted. This war has depleted the national economy. We know who the group is getting more wealthy off this war. Avarice, vampires sucking up the taxpayer's hard earned money, very life of the nation. Many can't even retire nor have health insurance. I can't get out my mind Hiliary and John McCain are a part of this mess. Today, I read an article that the wealthy did not see a need for "Change". Hiliary gets the states where a large number of the wealthy voters are not being adversely affected by the economy. Only Avarice would influence reasoning causing a lack of empathizing for the middle class and the working poor lacking the understanding there is a necessity for "Change"? The Bible says to name the sin; Greed/Avarice a deadly sin. Hiliary and McCain has been their choices of people with this mindset.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Ummm... actually, he HAS made the comment that the United Church of Christ has a 99% white denomination before. Honestly MSNBC if Hillary or Bill Clinton said this (flipping white with black and Obama with Clinton) you guys would so be all over this like flies on manure. As for the distraction portion of this response, of course it was a distraction...so the media wouldn't pick up on how Rezko actually gave 250,000 in campaign donations instead of the 150,000 Obama originally reported. It was a distraction when they initially attempted to make it seem as if only his passport file was illegally accessed. On another note, what is it with news tv anchors, hosts, pundits, correspondents...the whole media group and this reference in some iteration of Obama as , " the nice guy." Every time I hear someone in the news say that, I throw up in my mouth. Someone called

by a singular moniker and everyone knows of whom you speak—

a person who can walk into a room and cause pause because of

his physical presence and historical significance. That’s exactly what I

was privileged to do a few days ago from my humble kitchen perch.

I interviewed the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan by phone on

everything I could think to ask in 15 fleeting minutes.

The Minister’s voice was strong, smooth and steadfast, giving

no hint of the health challenges that have plagued him the last few

years. He talked about the future of the Nation of Islam, his hope

for the faith, his pride in African American people, his love of music

and the state of Black America. Then of course, when prodded, he

talked of his legacy. I asked questions in quick succession and he

willingly responded, eloquently quoting biblical scripture, speaking

in parables and peppering his answers with references to the Quran,

Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Honorable Elijah

Muhammad. He spoke and I couldn’t help but listen and learn.

“When Minister Farrakhan speaks, Black America listens,” says

the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, likening the Minister’s influence to

the E. F. Hutton commercials of old. “Everybody may not agree with

him, but they listen…His depth on analysis when it comes to the

racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye opening. He brings a

perspective that is helpful and honest.

“Minister Farrakhan will be remembered as one of the 20th and

21st century giants of the African American religious experience,”

continues Wright. “His integrity and honesty have secured him a

place in history as one of the nation’s most powerful critics. His love

for Africa and African American people has made him an unforgettable

force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere

about his faith and his purpose.”

The Louis Farrakhan story is one most of us already know, but

that does not diminish its import or impact. Born Louis Eugene

Walcott, 73-years ago in the Bronx and raised in Roxbury, MA, the

former Calypso singer and classically trained violinist, knew there

was a greater calling on his life. That calling began with his joining

the Nation in 1955 and changing his name to Louis X. Since that

time, the rest, one could say, is history.

The Minister helped breathe new life into the Nation after the

death of Elijah Muhammad, attracting thousands upon thousands

of young, eager, African American men who found a home in the

faith, pride in themselves and a leader in the Minister. From the

streets of Chicago’s South Side to the Million Man March and to the

greater Islamic world, the Minister has and is making a difference.

But that road has not been an easy one, as his friend Father Michael

L. Pfleger of St. Sabina Church in Chicago explains.

“Minister Farrakhan is probably one of the most misunderstood

and mis-defined leaders of our day,” says Pfleger. “When you don’t

want to deal with someone’s truth, you try to destroy their character

or redefine them…That’s what the media has sought to do with

Minister Farrakhan. His truth causes America to face its racism and

its hypocrisy.”

“Minister Farrakhan has been a personal friend for more than

20 years,” continues Pfleger. “His leadership has evolved, and I

believe the coming days will see him as a unifying force, calling real

Christians, real Jews and real Muslims to come together on principles

of truth and justice… Contrary to those who want to make him

anti-white and anti-Semitic, I believe Minister Farrakhan is presently

building the umbrella for people of conscience to come together no

matter the race or creed. I am honored to call him my brother.”

Because of the Minister’s influence in the African American

community, Trumpet Newsmagazine honors him this winter at its

Sounds of the Shore gala with an Empowerment Award. It seemed

a fitting tribute for a storied life well lived. And as our brief interview

drew to a close and he thanked me for taking the time to talk to

him, I could not help but think, the Minister, the man with
Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Obama is a tremendouslly inspiring, wise, intelligent, and gifted leader, and I feel fortunate to have him as my prospective president. The Rev White isn’t unusual. If we mature white males have been treated as the mature black Americans I think we would react the same or perhaps worse. I think it’s time we realize that it is a human response. I think it’s time to give the “Rev a rest”. I am equally surprised to learn that younger Black males are not as knowledgeable about their ancestor’s experience. This would be a good future learning issue for all Americans.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

V. I have read both of his books, listened to his speeches, and read what Michelle Obama has said. And it is my opinion that Jeremiah Wright has had tremendous influence on their thinking. Obama was there when he made some of his hateful remarks, and he cannot deny it. He writes about one sermon in 1988 where Wright says "white greed in a world of need". So he was aware of Wright's racist remarks early on. Wright said in his sermon. One thing most of you missed is he said it's in the Bible. Have anyone check to see what Scriptures he was using? If what a preacher is saying line up with the Word of God it will always upset most people. When Jesus was on earth many people were upset with what He said because the truth is a hard pill to swallow. As a Nation we cannot follow the devil and expect God to continue to bless us. It don't work that way with the Lord. The Jews were God's own people, but because of there desire to follow the devil they wasn't blessed but damned. If Rev. Wright is truly preaching the Word of God and any one that hear it and haven't truly given your heart to Jesus, you cannot and will not understand what he's saying. Not only you can't understand him, but any other true person of God.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

Obama and Wright Pastor Disaster will not go away any time soon. Why should it? Obama has a 20-year relationship with Reverend Wright; to suggest that Wright's comments were isolated would be to flat out lie. However, instead of taking on the difficult situation head on which would be "Presidential", Obama and his wife fled to the Virgin Islands away from the fire storm. Or so they thought. This is hardly the acts of an un-typical politician and a candidate of change.

If any one thinks the Reverend Wright story is going away any time soon … think again. Reverend Wright was supposed to speak in Florida at the Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Temple Terrace have been canceled. Canceled for security? More like canceled as Barack Obama was afraid what Wright's words would further due to his election hopes.

To make matters even more interesting for Barack Obama is to take a look at his tax returns that he released. What words outraged Americans … "God Damn America". For me and many others it has not been and never was about race. It is the things he said that were so un-American that offended us. Being from NY and having family that worked in NY on 9/11 it offended me and many others who hear a man of god say we brought it upon our selves. I went the whole day, due to non working cell towers, not knowing how close my father was to the towers. I had teachers who lost friends and former classmates in the towers. How can I not take it personal that some preacher said they deserved it. I am sorry but come November after the Republicans remind NY voters that according to Obama's mentor, and guiding light in life that they brought 9/11 on themselves I dont not see them voting for Obama. I know that he never said those words but when you claim a man to be your mento and guide in life both spiritually and in general you have to believe in him. This man talks a good talk and just like that used car salesman, can get you to buy anything. Its after you bought that you find out that you have been taken. Fortunately, its not too late to change your minds. For the states that still have primaries left, do the entire nation a favor and tell Obama that he can't pedal his "snake oil" here anymore. We see thru his lies and half truths. Give the Democrats REAL HOPE for Novemeber and vote for Hillary. Because if Obama wins, we will all lose come November. I for one, will never vote for Obama and would rather vote for McCain. Atleast he has the guts, right or wrong, to state his beliefs.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

you guys are still taking about this, people are losing there jobs, homes, and loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

"You and I, we are both Christians," Obama said to the young man. "And even if you’re not a Christian, we are both Americans. And we cannot solve the problems of America, if every time somebody somewhere says something stupid that everybody gets up in arms."

How true. Unfortunatley there are still many people out there that are very narrow minded to the point of reflecting and exposing their inner predjudices while remaining blind to the damage they are doing to the greater cause of bringing people with differences together. All one has to do is read some of patty, sd ca 's comments on these threads and you know of what I speak.

All of us have faults, some worse then others. And if all we do is continually harp on the faults of others then working out soultions to our differences and problems will never occur. Those who fail to recognize this and who work against this truth with hateful comments or beliefs that they continually make on these threads are in fact the disease that keeps the greater issues and problems between people from healing.

And even if someone does not support Obama. Even if he were not a candidate but another of a different color was running who also preached unity, the fact is that those who speak in hateful terms in this regard are refusing to join with anyone regardless of who they are in trying to make this a better and more tolerant world and society. You have a tough road to travel Obama but hang in there.

Obama calls Wright issue a distraction

If a priest or pastor is passionate; loves his congregation and feels that his people are being ignored or marginalized by their government isn't only natural for him to be angered? I was turned off by Rev.
