OK, this is pretty dumb. Hillary Clinton wants a high-level commission to analyze ways to resolve the mortgage crisis — including Alan Greenspan.
Yes, I know people still listen when Greenspan speaks — and John McCain once joked about taking Greenspan’s advice even if he’s dead. But for those in the know, AG is a key villain in the whole affair.
I mean, why not add Charles Prince, Stanley O’Neal, and Angelo Mozilo to the commission?

This was a sweeping, yet detailed speech. It reflects the kind of thoughtful policy analysis that I was hoping Obama would provide. Hillary Clinton's speech, by comparison, was old news. I mean, haven't we been hearing "job training" for a decade, at least?

Barack Obama showed that he is willing to LEAD, not just spout what conventional wisdom has already agreed upon. Regulation of financial markets that matches the innovation of the financial sector in the last 18-20 years with appropriate regulatory reform will help protect investors for decades to come. And measured assistance on the housing front, combined with incentives toward homeownership (did anyone notice the mortgage interest tax break for those of us who can't itemize?) is a great combination.

I am so proud of this candidate. Barack Obama will make a terrific President of the United States.

(1) More tax cuts for the rich.

Obama has a plan to help people out. i for one am very interested in this. My husband and I took on a variable loan with the understanding that we would be able to refinancein a year or two b4 the reates begin to skyrocket. Now it is NOT to late for us yet, but with the economy crumbling down people like us who were well intentioned and can afford our house at its current rate will be bankrupt and destitute should our rates go up. We did not know that the housing market and loan industry would come crashing down a year after we bought our first dream home. We just wanted apiece of teh american dream to raise our 2 children (soon to be 3) in. we are a 2 income family both with post high school educations and have held jobs and paid into the tax sytem since we were 16!!! Do we not deserve a little break??? hell we would be satisfied for the short term in renegotiating our rate to be fixed rather than variable!!! But I guess only Bear Stearn's deserves a little hand up not the millions of tax payers that pay into a system and expect results!!!

Thank god someone is fighting for us down here in the middle class I have a growing consern as to why people and politicans say it's okay to bail out a 30 billon dollar company (Bears) beacause it helps keep business aflot, but we shouldn't try to keep people who are paying what they can in there homes because they made a bad decision ,but lets make sure to bail out people who are educated,smart,and know the rules and risks. That is what I truly want. The regulatory system in America is often beholden to special interests whose lobbying prevail over the voices of ordinary citizens. I distrust even the FCC, whose members I read in the past to have ties to drug companies.
It would have been pretty cool andd democratic to allow ordinary Americans to vote for heads of regulatory bodies unless presidents make wiser choices, rather than to let money rule our regulatory bodies.

Does BO know what the SEC currently does? He also wants to "the creation of a financial oversight commission that identifies risks to the nation's financial system". Maybe he should read the objectives of the Federal Reserve. Anybody who works in finance knows that SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) is a financial burden for all but the largest of companies. He proposes more regulation in points 1 and 4, and then contradicts them in points 2 and 3. This is why speechs with no specifics trip over themselves. More but streamlined regulation (contradiction). Commission of experts to assess risk (Better than the current experts). Who are these Wunderkids? The academics who inhabit his campaign. The same people proposing $850bn in new spending? Add this regulation to the bill and I'm sure we can pass the $1Trillion by summer.

I am not sure I am comfortable with this. I will have to see more details, but at this point it sound like a little to much Government involvement and we've seen how good the Government is a handling things (Iraq, airbus, fed rate management, social security, etc..).

I agree something needs to be done, but I am not sure Obama, Clinton, or McCain have the right people or the right idea to fix it. Obama's Chief Economist has already provide he is a complete rookie and in over his head, and McCain seems to basically just ignore it.

At a fundamental level I guess I have a real problem with my tax money bailing out stupid decisions and crooks. When I bought my house I remember being approved for over twice the amount of the house I actually bought, and the lenders pushing ARMs and Interest only loans. I choose to go with a smaller House that I knew I could afford based on my own financial numbers not theirs, and I went with a traditional 15 year fixed.

It just didn't make sense to me then, and everyone called me an idiot for doing what I did. They kept saying "but you can buy such a bigger home! You can save money with a lower interest rate of an ARM, and the average person doesn’t stay in their home more than 5 years anyway! Home prices have only gone up, they won't go down why waste money on building equity!"

Now a lot (not all) of those same lenders/crooks are going belly up, and all these people (not everyone) who got greedy, or made stupid decisions (I agree there are some real tragedies out their) are losing their homes (that they really probably should not have bought in the first place) are wanting the government to come in and bail them out with my tax money.

So in a way I could potential get double hit, first because I opt’d to take a higher interest rate going fixed and then second my tax dollar get directed away from other programs to help this mortgage problem.

I see the fact that it is a real mess and it is having a real negative impact on the economy that effect me to, so agree as a society we have to do something. I am just not sure bigger government is the answer, and for sure not when Real-estate and finical policy influencers are giving both Obama and Clinton Millions of dollars.

Look, many of those out there don't have to like Barack Obama, but there can be no denying that history is being made before our eyes.

Our current financial regulatory system is fragmented and does not carry across the various financial silos. The current mortgage crisis is an example of that. Banks are regulated through one system while mortgage companies by another and the separate regulatory functions were for different reasons. Meanwhile, there was no communication between regulators which led to the current crisis.

Obama's solution parallels the London regulatory model where the different entities are subject to a "super-regulator" who monitors how the despirate regulatory bodys control their sectors and communicate with each other. If the metrics indicate a problem in a given sector the super-regulator steps in and makes ajustments. This is a brillient evidence based approach that works.

What was brilliant about Obama's speech is that he didn't inject it with a lot of "I, I, I" and he didn't run down any of the people who have been working so hard to keep things afloat. I see him as a President who will respect others and will work WITH them for a common good. He always looks at things from a big picture, which is exactly how he framed his speech today.

1. Redistribution of all income. Socialism.

2. Tax Corporations so they will leave the country and leave everyone without jobs.

3. If you buy a home, make sure you are able to make the payments. Hint: If you are barely able to make minimum payment on credit cards, you probably can't afford the taxes that Obama is going to put on the home that you are thinking of buying, so don't buy it.

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.

But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. "Carpe diem" (harvest the day).

I think Hillary Clinton see's a beautiful world of plenty for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it's time America. Do this for your-selves, and your children's future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.

You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don't want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves.

Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama's. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!

As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.

Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.

If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON'T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.

The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.

I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton's offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama's place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history.

The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.

Fortunately the Clinton's have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton's. Only the Clinton's are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

Why all you clintonian are so Nasty like her. Can't you have a real discussion about the real issues. Why are you personally attacking people who write on these belogs. This is United State of America which has democracy and freedom of speech and people who have qualities can become leaders. We do not live in a dictator state. Dynesties should not exists here. I was a Clinton fan until she became our senator - she is a horrible senator and she has lost my vote during this nagetive and childish campaign. I cannot think what would happen to the country if God Forbid she becomes president. She has 30 years of NOTHING DONE. Look at her resume without all the lies to pad it. MSNBC is my #1 cable news outlet, but I am GREATLY disappointed in their broadcasting today - cutting away from this speech to rant more about stupid Wright and stupid church bulletins from years ago or whatever they were babbling about all day. I changed the channel - CNN covered the entire speech.

As Mrs. Clinton would say, "SHAME ON YOU, MSNBC!"
