Sounds like he is trying to drum up a war with Iran. The surge is NOT working, with over 4000 Americans killed and 12 billion of our tax dollars a month being wasted, the only reason there has been any drop in violence is because the terrorist thug Al Sadr called off his cowardly butchers, as he does any time he is backed into a corner. If there really is a "war on terror", why is this animal still alive?

The rise of Iranian influence was a direct and predictable consequence of taking out Saddam, at least for anyone who paid attention to the facts on the ground before '03. It's exactly why the more temperate elder Bush and the canny Bill Clinton correctly believed containment was the lesser of evils. It will be interesting to see whether McCain musters up the gumption to speak honestly about the enormous mistakes of the current administration and show that he knows the stark difference between "The Iraq War was a good idea" and "We broke it, we own it." If he really plans to run a principled campaign, there is no genuine alternative for him.

I retract my comment that McCain hid his sons from serving in Iraq. However, will they be subjected to mandatory tour after tour over there?

I take issue with the post that acknowledged 70% of Americans were for the war in Iraq, (when Bush first invaded), and then went on to make the argument that all Americans were for the war. 70% does not constitute the whole of anything. My husband, and I were not for this war, and marched along the streets of Pittsburgh in protest of it, with the other 30% of Americans who saw through Bush's lies; as did Senator Obama.

What McFossil doesn't quite understand is that the American people don't want to be in Iraq even UNDER a peace-keeping mission for the next 100 years. And why on earth does he think there will EVER be peace in the middle east? They've fought for over 600 years; does he think HE can stop them from fighting each other? Enough. The sad thing about HB of McFalls, ME (other than obvious spelling and usage problems) is that he or she, like so many other people in the US, are so easily misled and so totally ignorant of facts, current events, world history, geography, and just about everything else except who is on American Idol or what the abysmal Ms. Spears is up to. I am truly disappointed. Maine folk in the old days were pretty shrewd people. Apparently, the Marching Morons have taken over there as well.

The WTC and other 9/11 events were (if you buy the given story) accomplished by jihadists who were flying US owned and registered aircraft. (Which I suppose could be construed as "WMD" if misused - that, however, was not what they were designed as, HB.)

Most of the alleged highjackers were Saudis. One was from Egypt, and another from the UAE. NONE were Iraqis. None had any ties with Iraq or Saddam, a secular dictator who hated the Islamic fundies. (Saddam, BTW, was a US "asset" for years - set up and maintained as a surrogate in the region to off-set first the Soviets and [later] Iran. I have a picture of him c. 1983 shaking hands with Rummy, then Reagan's Special Envoy. Rummy presented him with a gift of golden spurs from Reagan, who had just taken him off the State Dept. list of state sponsors of terrorism.)

We also provided him with intel, funding, and precursors of chemical and biological weapons used on the Iranians and later the Kurds and Shiites.

HB, you need to go back to school, quit listening to Faux "News" and "Thrush Limburger" and find out what is really going on in the world.
