Alice Palmer, friend and mentor to Obama, served the district in the Illinois Senate for much of the 1990s. Decades earlier, she was a community organizer in the area when Obama was growing up in Hawaii. She risked her safe seat to run for Congress and touted Obama as a suitable successor. But when Palmer lost the congressional race, her supporters asked Obama to fold his campaign so she could easily retain her state Senate seat. Obama not only refused to step aside for the woman who was his friend and had recommended him for the seat, he filed challenges that nullified Palmer’s hastily gathered nominating petitions, forcing her to withdraw. Had Palmer survived the petition challenge, Obama would have faced the daunting task of taking on an incumbent senator. “He wondered if we should knock everybody off the ballot. How would that look?” said Ronald Davis, the paid Obama campaign consultant. Davis filed objections to all four of Obama’s Democratic rivals at the candidate’s behest. All other candidates were disposed of by Obama’s challenges. He then went on to win the election.

http://tinyurl.com/2zwwte

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Does Bill not understand that people record stuff and write things down? What a moron.

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Hillary and Bill are two peas in a pod. THIS IS A COPY OF MY ACTUAL RESPONSE:

Dear Geoff:

Thanks for the invitation to write to you with my thoughts and/or advice. Here is what I now think:

Drop out. That would be my advice. Your team put up a good fight but it's over. You're actually making a lot of us very tired.

Have your candidate make her speech on Tuesday evening thanking the wonderful people of PA - and the entire country - and then have her throw her support to Senator Obama for unity's, the Party's and America's sake. She could go out as a winner on a high note.

This would instantly restore her greatly diminished credibility and get back the support she has lost within the party and the Senate. Once this is all over - and Obama is the nominee - she will not be greatly comforted by the remaining support of white women over 55 (I'm 57), and working class "Reagan/McCain Dems. She will have lost the base, the party elite and her peers in the Senate if she keeps pushing this.

Once she endorses Obama she can then become a true leader in the Senate and help President Obama to shape and pass legislation. Eventually she can replace Harry Reid. Would this not be good for you and Howard going forward as well?

Otherwise, she will walk away from this, still the loser, but with culpability (deserved or not) for damaging what had been shaping up as a transcendent Democratic year. I cannot imagine why she does not wish to be a positive part of this opportunity, nor can I imagine that she - and you - do not now see that she is not the one to bring this agenda home.

It's too late for her to become the nominee in any real world scenario other than one which would be so bitterly divisive that's the thought alone is horrific. Pick the right time and make a rousing endorsement speech on Tuesday for Senator Obama. Those negatives will get cut in half, Bill's legacy will be restored and her (and your) successful future will be assured.

I hope you've taken this advice in the spirit in which it was intended...as an honest and caring response to your invitation.

Gary
Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

now THAT is HEEElarious! from hist first line, denying he said "they played the race card on me"...to his 5th line, when he SAYS "they played the race card on me".....jeez bill...you're unraveling right before our eyes..

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

"All politicians lie, but the Clintons lie with such ease, it's disturbing." -- David Geffen

Truer words have never been spoken. It's actually clinically pathological.

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Re: Pam @ 12:02 p.m.

If you've only got an article that demonstrates that Barack Obama knows his way around politics to defend the fact that Bill Clinton is a pathological liar...the Clinton's are sunk.

You and your ilk are pathetic.

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Bill Clinton has often been praised as the greatest politician of the past 20 years. Might it be possible that he's always been exactly the same as he is today? Might it be possible that the speed with which news travels and the permanency with which statements live on is MUCH different now than when he was first running for President? Might it be that rather than being the greatest politician, he used to be able to get away with saying 3 different things in a day?

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Hey First Read, report this:

Obama gained more support today (not superdelegate, but still... check CNN's ticker) from Julie Nixon Eisenhower. After all the dust settles, people will say that Bill Clinton was one of the main reasons that HRC did not receive the Democratic nomination.

It's actually kind of sad. I do think HRC will be a great Senate majority leader, and I still think that in an election cycle or 2, she will be able to staff her campaign with better people to manage her money and her image without looking like wreckless sleazeballs.

Democrats '08, '12, '16, '20

Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

"They lie with such ease it's frightening."- David Geffen former FOB and now an Obama supporter.
The operative word is they. A vote for Hillary DOES mean that Bill and his shenanigans are back in the White House. Everybody who's okay with that in light of how just plain-out dumb he's been during the primary season, raise your hands. He's morphed from a beloved ex-president and hero of the Democratic Party to just another angry white male -- the same kind that brought Newt Gingrich and his hordes to power in 1994. Not even 24 hours go by, and Bill is denying what he said.

He should have learned from his wife's Bosnian sniper fire lies; there's this new fangled technology that actually records your words and actions, so denial is not an option. Of course in the Clintonian world, fact and fiction are so blurred that I don't think they have any basis in reality. And to use the excuse that they are 60+ years old and forgetful as a result is an insult to all of the sharp 60+ year olds who don't have a problem with honesty and integrity.

Hasn't this country had enough lies, distortions and revisionist history during the past 8 years? What a bunch of hypocrites. You all are the same people who voted Bill in office twice because he was doing such an awesome job for our country and you were happy. So now you become easily swayed to vote for Obama, a man you know little about. What a bunch of frauds. Most of you call yourselves democrats? Disgusting!!
