Those "rank-and-file voters" are actually STUPID voters. No, that's not elitist; that's the truth. We need someone in the White House who's not going to pander to those for whom face-value is all there is to a story. THAT, more than anything else, is why the presidency has been such a crap-hole for the last sixteen years: the presidents in that time period have pandered to the dumbest segment of society. It's time to stop pandering and start making real changes.

And any of you who wants to challenge me on the gas tax, I ask you, how much do you love going over potholes? How much do you love the damage crumbling streets do to your cars? This isn't just about falling bridges in Minnesota -- it's about the everyday bumps and bruises the roads in this country get because of traffic. And if we remove the gas tax, we either raise taxes elsewhere (which is precisely what Mrs. Clinton would have to do) or we screw up our infrastructure. If you're okay with that, great, vote for McCain or Clinton; but if you want actual change, you know what you have to do.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Obama defended Wright when he was just bashing American, but as soon as Wright started dragging Obamessiah through the mud that's when it became too much.

Bash the country? FOX news exposed that real well. It had video's of remarks by Wright and Obama going back several years and they don't square with Obama's yesterdays comments. First he throws his grandmother under the bus and now his Pastor. I can only wonder who will be next. There was a report of a North Carolina tracking poll that followed Rev. Wright'd press conference remarks that showed the race had tightened to a tie. White middle class voters are fleeing from him and the bleeding will continue. If the Democratic voters want to end the Republican rule they better vote in droves for Hillary Clinton and start to pressure the super delegates in their states, or we all will be saluting President John Mc Cain. The results could even effect their majorities in the house and senate.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Obama main supporters like MSNBC and other biased media will not waiver in there support of him. But, what all of you fail to understand that the vote he needs to be president do not appreciate him insulting their intelligence about his relationship with Rev. And what's more, they will have to stop for gas. (The tank just happens to be running dry while Clinton's along for the ride.) Clinton will then help Wilfing pump gas. And then he will complete the typical trip to work. Of course, we all wonder when was the last time Clinton drove a car? Or pumped gas? Or even, after that $109 million, had to worry about the cost of gas? Politicians do all kinds of things to attract votes, but this has the potential to be memorable. Now it is up to the press to be fair and balanced. It just seems that the press is never happy with Obama's answers. He is not above flaws, but in my opinion, he is clear-eyed, fair, ethical, and honest. He has denounced Wright not once, but many times. How many times does he have to kneel and say "mea culpa"? Lay off. You know the press is doing the Wright story for ratings. Obama is a superior candidate who doesn't rush to making any statements nor decisions. McCain is so superstitious that he probably wouldn't go after Obama on friday the 13th. But, I have to say that the more Obama talks, the more I think it is a reflection on his judgment and motivations. Instead of rejecting and denouncing Rev. Wright's comments when they first came to light, Obama said, hey, he's from a different generation and this is just how they think, I may not agree but I'm not going to disown this guy. Now, when Rev. Wright has in essence reiterated what he said in those sermons during his media appearances in the past few days and, in the process, dissed Obama, now Obama is outraged. The question is what exactly is he outraged at?-- the content of what Rev. Wright said in those sermons or that Rev. Wright threw Obama under the bus? If it is the former, then he should have said that unequivocally the first time. If it is the latter, then he is just a politician like the others.
First thoughts: Dumping Wright

You know I am really sick and tired of all this stuff about Rev. I believe what happened yesterday was absolutely necessary, but there are a lot of genuinely hurt people out there in the Black community. Given that time, I know that we ALL can come together and unite as Obama has envisioned. It was a necessary step, though.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I don't know if dumping Wright will help Obama, but dumping Obama will certainly help America!

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Obama should of denounced Wright the first goaround. He has been a Wright supporter for 20years and changed his tune when he politically had to. That does not sit well with the black church or the average voter.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I believe Obama did the right thing with Rev. Is it over? First Read could answer those questions themselves since they and the other pundits will decide all of this. But why didn't they compare Obama's response to Hillary's regarding Sniperfiregate? Get out a calendar! I think Obama did it about as fast as he could under the circumstances of constant campaigning while trying to get a handled on the real nature of what Wright was saying/doing. Don't you fools realize that not everyone is sitting in front of MSNBC 24/7 listening to what you are saying, taking your expert advice and running with it? Maybe he needed to think this through himself. Now isn't that a novelty, having a candidate who can think things through and then make an intelligent decision, especially about something that is quite serious and could have huge consequences? Just who pushed who into war with Iraq? Maybe if cooler heads were prevailing and in charge of government and media we would all be so much better off now.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

It's curious that in the early stages of the contest Obama battled the question - is he BLACK enough? No one's asking that one anymore. A campaign that was about civility and shared hopes and dreams and belief in a bright future and the transfer of power to a new generation, all that got lost in a heated collision of old racial animosities... and in an odd sort of way, the Clinton crowd is celebrating. If Bill Clinton was "the first black President," he certainly slipped off THAT pedestal. There remains a hope that the conflict will bring light, not just heat. But the tenor and tone of the conversation hardly seems promising.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

help...and its about time.people in usa grow up...dont look 4 excuses y not 2 vote 4 obama cus no man is perfect..look 4 wat obama is bringing 2 the table..CHANGE ,REAL CHANGE...AND HOPE..cuz there are some tuf tuf times ahead..u people dont even know....we need someone who cares about we as a people..not only in usa but around the wourld.....think about that........think people think

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

The Math...

so Obama is 290 delegates short of the nomination
and Hillary is 425 short...

a question... how many delegates... both elected and supers and left???

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

It shows his compassion for and dedication to a person in not totally rejecting Wright from the beginning. It also shows that Obama will not be quick on the trigger before responding to a crucial situation. His decision making process comes only after carefull thought, analysis and consideration of all the facts.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Too little too late. I wouldn't want to be a superdelegate who supported Obama. Can you imagine the conscience on those people if Obama trusts Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc. like he trusted Wright.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I think Obama is fake, and the only reason he is dumbing his preacher of more than 20 years, is to save his election hopes. If Obama was a politician first he would have thrown Rev. Wright under the bus long ago. But people need to understand that this man baptized his children, and married him and his wife. I thought Wright did ok speaking at the NAACP and the Moyer interview. But I was truly embarrassed at how he behaved at the press junket on Monday. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Wright showed no regard on how his words would impact Obama, he was in it for himself. I was appalled. I'm glad Obama denouced him and I don't get why this article is asking why it took so long. Whether anyone agrees or not, what you are witnessing first hand with Obama is the beginning of the intergration of the Black Narrative with the White Narrative.

I feel for Senator Obama. I feel for him because he has to be the first to go through this. What many of you will come to learn in time that many of us in the Black Community have a "Rev Wright."

Maybe its not our pastor. Myabe its a teacher, community leader, friends, or family member. Thats just the reality within the Black community. it is just as common as whites who have family memebers that agreed with segregation or with the stereotypes of African Americans or intolerance towards others.

This is the reality folks. Now we can continue to politicze it. We can continue to use it to boost ratings or drive a wedge or we can begin to understand.

One last thing. Im not going to lie, it has greatly bothered me that a majority of the people commenting on this issue though have been White Journalists. Im not sure how fair of an argument or discussion you can have when White Journalists are dominating the opnion and effect of this issue.

In fact, the media itself needs to do a better job of being inclusive

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I think Sen. Why else would your network harp on Rev. Wright over and over. Why is it that every word that Senator Obama utters is dissected to its last vowel. Hillary Clinton and John McCain are getting a pass. Are the higher ups suddenly realizing that the black guy is ahead? Which leads me to another point. If the super delegates, for whatever reason, overturn the will of the people, expect many to sit out this election. I know I will. And to be honest, if a bunch of super delegates, whoever they are, intend to dismiss the vote of the people, don't call this a democracy. And don't ask me to vote ever again. Don't pander to people saying every vote counts. It doesn't. And don't think for a minute the press is not complicit in this campaign. It is obvious that Clinton is being called strong, etc. May I remind you, that if it was she who had the most delegates at this time in the campain, Obama would have been asked to leave for the good of the Party. I always relied on your network to be fair, but when you have pundits saying over and over that Obama has a problem, you have a problem. You are no longer objective journalists, if you were journalists at all. From now on I will sit by the radio and listen to NPR. Then I won't have pundits, who know little, screaming through the screen. As an educator who teaches a class entitle, We the People, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to pontificate that our Constitution works, that We the People do matter, that our votes do count. How do I explain to students how it is we the people who have the power if Obama has the most delegates and Clinton is handed the nomination? Someone out there let me know if this is possible.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Hey, FR, make a new entry about Obama and Clinton both getting a SD this morning. I believe his actions show that he is indecisive and lacks the judgement to effectively lead the country at this time. In my opinion he is brilliant and charismatic but he is not ready for the job of president of the United States. However, with some more experience he might be.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I have even more respect for Barack Obama with the way he has handled the Jeremiah Wright controversy. I am a 71 year old woman who grew up in Oregon with Republican parents. I was a long time Hillary Clinton supporter but have changed to being an Obama supporter because I think he can govern more effectively than Hillary. His unique ability to unite people, to bring new voters into the election process will give us a chance to finally get something done to help ordinary Americans. We need jobs, healthcare reform, energy reform, a sensible foreign policy, but most of all someone who can not only win the election but be able to unite the country and thus their elected representatives to actually accomplish it.
First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Too Late Obama!
Obama can't dump the guy now. After 20 years of sitting in his congregation now he figures out the guy
is a racist lunatic? The only people that are going to believe that are the same people that want a "black" president at any cost for the sake of "social progress". He is way too left wing. He can pretend to be something else but it eventually comes out. I think the thing that is even more frightful learned from all this is the mythology that is underlying many black Americans belief system about this country and society. You know, I have always being told to take responsibility for myself and my situation. And when times are tough for no apparent reason I can't trace to myself, I still have to "eat it" and take it on my own shoulders. But that is not expected from Black America. They have everyone else to blame for anything that happens to them and pastors like Rev Wright make a good living propagating these harmful and useless beliefs.

But I wouldn't trade my self reliance to play the blame game many people are playing and many Black people are allowing themselves to fall into. (notice I did not say all black people). It wont be worthwhile in the end to keep blaming whites for the problems of black America. The average white person can't do anything about the issues facing blacks anyway. The average white person is in the same economic and social quagmire as most blacks these days. Have you been to a government agency lately? Seems most of the people working in government are of color anyway. The government has preferential hiring for blacks and hispanics. So who is in charge really?
First thoughts: Dumping Wright

Regarding Obama NOT knowing ONLY what is convenient for him to KNOW.. ITs either one way or the other..he is LYING and has been for over a year. OR he is just not intelligent ENOUGH to realize after 20 years what Wright was about. Either way VERY VERY SCARY....what happens if he DID win and he was dealing with other Country's leaders....and it takes him 4-8 years to figure out what is REALLY going on with them....NOT good for US.

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

It is as simple as this: Mr. Obama hid Reverend Wright from the first day he announced he was running for President. Why? Because he heard the preachings of Rev. Wright many many times and he knew he had to hide this from the public. If Mr. Obama gets the nomination he should have a private party just for the MSNBC staff. It figures Tim Russert would have Obama on his show Sunday. What great timing. I just wish you all had the honesty to list the reasons you hate Hillary. How about it Andrea, Chris and the rest of you?

First thoughts: Dumping Wright

I diagree with your assessment of the Obama/Wright situation. In my book loyalty is an honorable thing, though not much valued currently.
