Obama showed he's just as much of a political opportunist as anyone else, when he said he could no more disassociate himself from Reverend Wright, than he could a member of his own family.

That isn't "change."
That's the same old thing we've seen hundreds of times before.
Obama belonged to that church for 20 years. He knew what Wright was all about.
He tried to "con" us with a speech on race relations in America, instead of denouncing Wright's hate-speak last month.
Then he comes out and ditches the guy when he starts losing ground in the polls.

I am sorry to hint on this subject on this particular page but I have been unable to find out another place to express my opinion. My problem this morning would be Pat Buchanon. What is not being heard when talking about unpatriotic. The last that I heard in the Constitution all men are created equal. How is it that Pat can say such negative things about the African American population and no one has said anything on MSNBC or any other network. Is it that we mean so little that it does not really matter. If this would have been Rev. Wright who also is not running for any office (Pat has) it would be all over everything. I listened to MSNBC every day love Chris Matthews but I am going to start toning out and make sure to send out to all of my friends and family members that they should do the same if I have to continue to listen to his insults. He continues to show his true color every day to the point of referring to Obama's speech as addressing the Whitees as if that is all that he is capable of. I am sorry to say but Obama is 4xs brighter than Pat, if that were not true Pat would not have made such an idiotic comment. Obama's speech was brillant and no one could deny that. He basically was informing people like Pat just what the state of America is but of course it is those that are ignorant that would never understand. Unfortunately he was probably preaching to choir. I am sorry, I probably should have not used a church saying because Pat will probably think that as an African American this is the only thing that I can relate to.

I'd really like to hear a coherent argument from the Clinton supporters as to how they believe she can beat McCain in the general election.

As I see it, a Clinton nomination would unite the fractured Republicans behind McCain like no one else could. The vast majority of Independents would also vote for McCain. And a smaller portion, say 20% of Democrats who can't stand Hillary, would also vote for McCain.

So you're talking 98% of Republicans, 60% or 70% of Independents, and 20% of Democrats all voting for McCain.

Now maybe Clinton supporters are right, and Obama can't beat McCain either. But in my book, and by my math, Obama stands a vastly better chance of beating McCain than Clinton does, since he doesn't have that blind hatred by Republicans that Hillary has. Also, Obama attracts tons of Independents. So even if 40% of the Democratic base refuse to vote for Obama, he more than makes up for it with Independents and Republicans.

So, please, someone, in an adult way, tell me why you wouldn't agree with this assessment.

Perhaps it's because this is a medium utilized extensively by those who tend to have more education. If you want to really hear insults, wear an Obama button into a working class redneck bar (as I have) and you'll get to hear pure vicious racism, not the veiled subtle kind sometimes seen here.

Also, I've seen just as much if not more "rancor" from the Clinton side, including from the Clintons themselves. Have you seen McCain debate? Both Hillary and Obama would win a debate against McCain, but if winning a debate was as important as you apparently believe Bush never would have been re-elected.

Unfortunately Hillary can't beat McCain, not that she shouldn't, but because Hillary would motivate the base, and far too many independents that can't stand her. There is only one state that Hillary would pick up that Gore didn't, and that's Arkansas, However she would get crushed in Iowa, a state Gore won. Iowa has more electoral votes than Arkansas so even if all other states went the same as they did in 2000, Hillary would lose. Last weekend at the State conventions Obama continued to increase his delegate lead over Clinton. Despite all the Rev. Wright coverage, the "bitter" comments coverage, the PA victory for Hillary, Clinton was unable to cut into Obama's lead. Obama received 16 delegates (55%) to Clinton's 9, and 4 delegates are still remaining with Edwards.

Obama would win Iowa, and is likely to win many states that W carried in 2000. When Joe Andrews leaves Clinton the writing is on the wall!

RSS As she campaigns throughout Indiana, Sen. Hillary Clinton has been talking quite a bit about Magnequench, a Valparaiso, Ind., factory that moved to China.

Clinton cries foul over factory closing. But could her husband have stopped it?"We've got to elect a president next January who's going to remember Magnequench," Clinton told voters in Valparaiso on April 12.

It seems, however, that when it comes to Magnequench there's quite a bit that Clinton has conveniently forgotten.

"We went to Valparaiso," Clinton told voters in Princeton, Ind., last night, "where there used to be a plant called Magnequench that made the magnets that helped to guide the precision-guided missiles, the so-called smart bombs. You've seen those — they take off, they go down the chimney, they were incredibly sophisticated and these magnets, you know — not the kind you put on the refrigerator, like we all do — but these really sophisticated magnets were instrumental making that happen."

Clinton continued, saying, "Well, a Chinese company bought Magnequench and then they decided that they were going to move the whole company from Indiana to China. Now the president of the United States has the authority to veto that kind of a move, but Senator [Evan] Bayh begged the Bush administration not to export it — it was going to lose jobs but it was also going to lose the know-how, the technical sophistication that created those magnets. President Bush and his administration wouldn't, basically wouldn't even give Evan Bayh the time of day. Those jobs left, and along with them went the savvy to make the magnets."

What Clinton doesn't tell voters is that Magnequench was originally sold to Chinese interests during her husband's administration, which okayed the move despite concerns about national security and eventual job loss. Experts say the Chinese acquired the "technical sophistication" that created the magnets long before George W. Bush took office.

Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind,, Clinton's top surrogate in the state, often joins her on the stump in bashing the president for allowing Magnequench to move abroad. What Bayh doesn't tell voters these days is that he has blamed the company's moving on a 1995 decision made by Clinton's husband's administration.

Andy Albers, a former vice president of Magnequench, said he received a phone call from Clinton's campaign to go over key details of Clinton's Valparaiso event before it happened on April 12.

"I told them all the truth, but it didn't go anywhere," Albers told ABC News. "Evan Bayh and Hillary Clinton are living in some false reality here, making all these false accusations."

In Piittsburgh on April 14, Clinton told voters that "not only did the jobs go to China, but so did the intellectual property and the technological know-how to make those magnets."

Albers says no secrets or intellectual property transferred to China when Magnequench moved in 2003, despite the claims of these politicians.

Hillary started losing me when she was behind and started trying to change the rules re excluded votes. Barack played by the rules.

I didn't vote for either in our primary (I voted for the Republican I found least offensive). I didn't vote for Barack because I didn't want to vote against Hillary (I am a woman, after all), but I didn't vote for Hillary because she seemed to me to be a divisive force in that she inspires so much vitriol from Republicans. Until the attempt to change the rules after-the-fact when things weren't going her way, though, I didn't think she would be so divisive within our party.

Maybe that's what we need, though...someone who plays down-and-dirty. Maybe that's the only way someone can win in politics. Barack has tried to maintain his integrity. Someone above said he ditched Wright only after the polls were affected, but my understanding is that the trigger was Wright presuming to speak for Obama. If Barack was truly doing the politically expedient thing, he would have ditched his association with Wright a long time ago.

As to why Barack has stayed at Trinity UCC for so long, even if he didn't agree with everything Wright was preaching, my understanding is that has to do with what that church is doing in its community. It has 59 ministries almost entirely dedicated to helping people help themselves through training programs, support groups, and other activities. It has a computer lab and classes to help people improve their skills so they can qualify for better jobs. If I had a chance to belong to a church that was doing that kind of work, I would, too, even if I disagreed with the preaching.

As for my vote in November, if Obama is nominated, I will vote for him. If Hillary is nominated, I won't vote against her, but I may or may not vote for her.

The biggest positive with Ms. Clinton is that you know what you're getting. If she wins the White House, she will be a middle of the road to slightly left leaning Democrat who will get us out of the war and work to institute nationalized health care. There are no surprises... good or bad. Which also holds true for the general campaign. I truly worry what other issues Obama is going to have to face come election time, what other skeletons are in his closet. The man has never faced a major national electoral challenge and frankly, that worries me. We know all of Clinton's skeletons and can be prepared to deal with them.
I am very sorry to say this, but I believe that Obama will be creamed in the national election. I think Hilary can beat McCain if she has no major missteps, but I think no matter what Obama does, he will lose and lose very badly, in the general election because he cannot carry states like FL, PA and OH. And frankly, four years of McCain is my worst nightmare. It's four more years of failed Bush policies and up to three nominations to the Supreme Court.
And all those new voters that Obama pulled in won't show up on election day. They never do. I know, I'm 23 and although I vote,we're pretty set in our ways. Those who vote do and those who don't - don't.

I did a lot of canvasing in PA and practically every Republican house I knocked on said they would vote for Hilly come November. Not one said they would for obama in the general election. There is a whole group of republicans untapped voters waiting to vote for Hillary in the general election and not obama.
