One thing I don't quite get on the gas tax issue is what exactly she's doing to get such a bill passed? Presumably, since she's arguing for putting THIS summer's gas tax on hold, then you'd need some sort of legislation to do it with. She'd need to go out and find support for BOTH the gas tax holiday AND the windfall oil tax, AND get it passed (and signed by the president) by June 1.

Has anyone actually asked Clinton how she plans to accomplish this in a month? Otherwise, this isn't just a BIG pander, it's the ULTIMATE pander.

Her gas plan IS a gimmick - it will be incredibly difficult to pass a windfall tax on the oil companies through Congress...and she KNOWS this. The Presidency is NOT a monarchy or a dictatorship - she would need to get these things through Congress -

Stop and THINK People!

1) If both the gas tax vacation and that windfall tax were included in the same bill - the winfall tax would almost certainly be either amended OUT all together OR amended to the point that it wouldn't pay for the gas tax break.

2) If two separate bills were introduced - the liklihood is that the gas tax break may pass - but the windfall tax would NOT or it would be amended to the point that it would not make up the money the gas tax break would lose.

3) In the unlikely event that both passed - wouldn't a windfall tax be better spent to create the green jobs all the candidates are talking about - Rather than to backfill money lost through her gas tax break.

4) Reinstating the Gas tax would be painful for everyone b/c the price of gas - after the holiday would jump and this would be politically unpopular

5) Without the money brought in by the gas tax - our crumbling infrastructure suffers more and we LOSE jobs.

There are several other arguments against this - but it is CLEARLY PANDERING - People need to THINK!!!!! Don't let Hillary (or McCain or Obama - for that matter) Play you for a fool - use your common sense before you vote....

Clinton and McCain are offering a "gas tax holiday" to entice voters to vote for them. Please do not fall for it. Most economists think that a gas tax holiday would encourage people to drive more over the summer and thereby result in higher gas prices because of increased demand. Clinton's plan to have a windfall profits tax on the oil companies is even a worse idea. When's the last time the government imposed a tax or fine on a large company when that company didn't turn around and pass the increase onto the consumer? Gas prices would go up approximately 6% under that plan. And, in addition, to getting higher gas prices the Clinton/McCain gas holiday plan would result in money being taken away from our highway and bridge maintenance programs. Sound good to anybody? Obama has the best solution. Please do some research and make your vote next week count for the good of Indiana!
