Hsu turns himself in

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu has turned himself into police in California for a 15-year-old outstanding warrant. The Los Angeles Times, which first reported that Hsu was a fugitive, reports: “Prosecutors in California said Hsu disappeared in 1992 after pleading no contest and agreeing to serve up to three years in prison for defrauding investors in a Ponzi scheme.”

San Mateo Sheriff's booking photo of Norman Hsu.
Hsu, who a judge ordered handcuffed, faces a grand theft charge. He is being held on $2 million bond. A bail hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5th, where a judge may consider reducing his bail to $1 million.

Hsu signed on to be a Clinton “HillRaiser,” a group of individuals who pledged to raise at least $100,000 for the New York senator’s presidential run. He has helped raise or donate money for many Democrats, including Clinton (during her presidential run), Obama (during his 2004 U.S. Senate run) and New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

Here's a statement from Hsu’s attorney, Jim Brosnahan, released today: "The 15-year-old legal matter that Norman Hsu has is moving toward resolution. We arranged for him to appear in court and put up monies for bail, which can also be used for restitution to any persons who might still be unpaid. We have had productive preliminary conversations with the Attorney General's office concerning resolution of this old matter. "

**** UPDATE **** Per NBC's Andrew Merten, Speaking to reporters today at the New York state fair, Clinton said she believes Norman Hsu has "done the right thing" in turning himself in to California authorities.

Yet Hsu only represents one symptom in a heretofore largely undiscussed issue regarding fundraising. The ploy by wealthy donors to go over campaign donor limits by using others as blinds in order to get their dough to the candidate of their choice. Any one fool enough to believe that this is not a singular problem, instantly settled by Hsus surrender needs a one-way ticket to Blighty. It behooves campaign finance watchdogs of both parties to look more closely at what the big donors, either Democrat ''Hillraisers'' or GOP ''Pioneers'',are up to.
Hysterical Hillary and Osama Obama both have contracted severe, highly contagious Asian flu.  Beware of their fatal sneezes: HSU! HSU!
What the heck is to "discuss" He needs to go to jail.  He is a crook . Let us be sure and hear about this for the next 5 days , just like it was a "Republican" issue. Oh yeah, that's right , this involves a Demoncrat, so I am sue there is some perfectly primed story in place that will explain it all away. Just a boo-boo.
Why do you try to imply that their is an equalivance between hsu relationship with Clinton and Obama.

HSU donated $2,000 to Obama's 2004 Senate campaign plus about 5k to a Senate Pac'

To Hillary aside from being a Hillraiser pledging  to raise $100,000 he raised over 1 million for her in total Senate and  Presidential run.

One is a casual donar who you may or may not know, the other is SOMETHING different.  What?  I hope that we find out.

Please be fair and do not try to tie Senator Obama to this to give Hillary cover.
Some moron wrote: [[Hysterical Hillary and Osama Obama both have contracted severe, highly contagious Asian flu.]]

The above comment is another sign that if Obama is nominated, he's not going to get much of the dimwit racist GOP vote. I'd prefer him to Clinton, but the Clintons know how rip apart the GOP's Liars Brigade when the smearing starts. Obama might be too nice a guy, unfortunately.
Obama and Clinton are not responsible for Hsu's past, just like Romney is not responsible for Larry Craig's puplic service in the public bathromm.
The Clintons= Corruption. Folks, I am a die-hard Democrat but, to me, the Clintons are synonymous with corruption. And for that reason, I will probably sit this election out if Billary are nominated.
Obama and Hillary are not responsible for crime committed by Mr. Hsu. Thank you.
Lee Holmes [[Yet Hsu only represents one symptom in a heretofore largely undiscussed issue regarding fundraising. ]]

Joe Biden is the only candidate to have come out with the obvious solution: publicly financed campaigns. Of course, the big money people who want to buy politicians will screech "Socialism!", but only the mouth breathers who've been permanently bamboozled by the GOP would swallow that malarkey. It works in other countries, where "the government fears the people" unlike in the US where the people have increasingly greater reason to fear the government.
I wonder if HRC will come on visting day?

It is amazing that HRC acts like Hsu is just any old donor.  She calls him "Mr. Hsu".  Do you think she referred to him in such a formal way when he was bringing $1m into her campaign?  I doubt it.
[[ Let us be sure and hear about this for the next 5 days , just like it was a "Republican" issue. Oh yeah, that's right , this involves a Demoncrat, so I am sue there is some perfectly primed story in place that will explain it all away. Just a boo-boo.]]

At least Hsu isn't a public office holder like GOP's "Dukester" Cunningham, or the recently nailed Senator Larry "I was only reaching for the toilet paper on the floor" Craig.
Oh, no! The morons have us cornered. What are we gonna do now? Gee whiz, Lord, I knew you were on Bushies side, but why are you doing this to us poor Democrats? Maybe Jerry or Dave can help us. Jerry! Dave! We give up. Help! Help! I guess the Bush lovers were right all along. Maybe the noze knows. Hee-haw hee-haw, oooga-oooga. Oink, oink oink. Help us, morons. We give up.
It's Deeemoncrats that are the problem here. It is too bad that Mr. Hsu has been caught up in the moral breakdown of the Deeemoncratic party.
Does not matter who he raises money for, if it is dirty money, give it back, no matter which party.
Actually, the only lobbiest that should be legal are those that don't raise money for any candidate, and do the lobby work for a cause they feel is worthy (clean air, healthcare for everyone, education, things like that).  Lobbiests for anything else are scum (drug companies, halliburton, enron, any energy source, and the big ones - the insurance industry).
This is just another example of the Democrats doing what they do best. Cheat, lie and spin it. Each campaign is going to donate the money Hsu gave them to charity. Well let's investigate and see how many other donors were actually given money by Hsu to donate too. A postal worker making 49K a year has donated 250K to the Democratic Party since 2004. Maybe he invested in the same cattle futures Hillary did when she made her famous 100K. This is just another example of the failed McCain Feingold bill which has no teeth to it. If we put the Clinton's back into the White House expect 4-8 more years of lying, corruption, sex scandals with the First Man and with A DEM congress taxes that will consume your paycheck.
What is it with the Clintons and crooked Asian fundraisers? Doesn't anyone recall all those Chinese money launderers with 24 by 7 access to the Lincoln Bedroom in the 90's.

"Please be fair and do not try to tie Senator Obama to this to give Hillary cover."

This IS fair.

Use of Bundlers Raises New Risks for Campaigns
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK
Published: August 31, 2007

WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 — In amassing $52 million in campaign contributions in the first half of this year, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton relied on a platinum pyramid of 233 “Hillraisers,” including the movie director Steven Spielberg, the party powerbroker Vernon E. Jordan Jr., and the real estate mogul William C. Rudin.
Another, less famous name on the list, however, has proven a liability to Mrs. Clinton: Norman Hsu, a business executive who turned out to be wanted in connection with a fraud case in California.

Mr. Hsu came into the picture with the advent of bundlers, wealthy and well-connected surrogates who can collect stacks of campaign checks from friends, family members and associates.

The system is a byproduct of the $2,300 cap on individual contributions, which has led campaigns to ask their biggest supporters to go beyond simply making donations and to pass the hat. Pioneered in an organized way by George W. Bush in 2000, it has become increasingly important because of the 2002 campaign finance laws that closed the spigot of unrestricted “soft money” from corporations and other big donors through the political party campaign committees.

The six leading primary campaigns have listed a total of nearly 2,000 bundlers.

The reliance on bundlers has exploded this year because, for the first time in three decades, the major candidates are planning to turn down public financing in favor of raising and spending money without being subject to any limit.

But the proliferation of bundlers, and the ambitious fund-raising goals set out for them by cash-hungry campaigns, has opened the door to a host of embarrassing entanglements, including Mrs. Clinton’s ties to Mr. Hsu and President Bush’s connections to the jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Although Mr. Hsu is wanted for arrest because he failed to appear in court for a fraud case 15 years ago, he has not been accused of other wrongdoing. His lawyer has denied any campaign finance violations.

Still, by outsourcing the solicitation of individual donors to an ad hoc assemblage of the self-interested and the idealistic, the system has exposed campaigns to new risks.

It is harder for campaigns to be sure bundlers do not bring in money from illegal contributors.

And, campaign lawyers say it is virtually impossible for campaigns to ensure that wealthy bundlers are not, in effect, underwriting contributions from employees, friends or family.
Lawrence E. Bathgate II, a New Jersey lawyer who is a former Republican National Committee chairman and a bundler for Senator John McCain of Arizona, said campaigns were forced to rely on the judgments of surrogates.

“No candidates can know everybody who is out there raising funds for them,” Mr. Bathgate said. “They have to rely on the person who is part of their team, to make sure that person is being very judicious.”

Mrs. Clinton, of New York, is hardly the only current presidential candidate with a bundler who has had trouble with the law. Of the more than 500 bundlers recognized by Mr. Bush’s presidential campaigns, about a dozen have come under investigation for legal violations related to their business dealings. One was Mr. Abramoff, who is serving a prison sentence for bribery.

Another was Thomas Noe, an Ohio bundler, who pleaded guilty to embezzling state money and illegally laundering contributions through his employees.

Mitt Romney’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination primary recently returned a $2,300 contribution from Alan B. Fabian, a Maryland bundler indicted on fraud and money laundering charges. The campaign has retained contributions Mr. Fabian solicited on its behalf.

Last week, Geoffrey Fieger, a lawyer best known for representing Dr. Jack Kevorkian in his trial for assisting suicides, was indicted on charges of illegally funneling more than $125,000 to the 2004 Democratic presidential campaign of John Edwards through straw donors.

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, another Democratic contender, has given to charity more than $32,000 raised for his Senate campaigns and political action committee by Antoin Rezko, a bundler who was indicted last fall on charges of influence peddling at the Illinois Statehouse and fraud in business.

What is more, although it is illegal for a bundler to reimburse a contributor, bundlers often ask for contributions from people on their payroll. All the campaigns have reported concentrations of contributions from employees of companies where a top executive is a bundler. And it is standard practice for bundlers to encourage their lawyers, accountants, business partners and family members to make contributions.

They are all doing the same thing, so they are all guilty of the same thing. When it's obvious that this isn't something that the Hillary-haters can tar and feather her with, without their own choice, republican and democrat, getting dirty too, it will cease to be an issue.
Public financing is the only real answer. Let this be the LAST Presidential campaign where the specter of the moneymen and shady operators looms over the process.
If your candidate ISN'T for public financing of campaigns, ask why.

Van
You get the impression that there are a lot of folks here who NEVER let the facts get in the way of their biased, uninformed, opinions.

Van
What's really interesting is that HRC is only giving away $23,000 out of the over 1 million raised (that we know of). Obama's senate race is over and done with, but HRC should be giving it ALL away, not just what she thinks will keep everyone happy
Houston - Joe Biden is not the only candidate to endorse public financing in campaigns; Edwards has been for it for some time, and Obama has supported the idea for his entire political career.
YO holier than thou repuckers "Thou doth protest to much.JACK ABROMOFF K STREET SUCK in YOUR LIES ,and live with thefilth you create.KARL ROVE IS MY HERO
Houston: But Bidens solution would work only AFTER he became president, having used monies from lobbyists to get him into the WH. As it now stands,[www.opensecrets.org,The Center for Responsive Politics],trial lawyers, real estate firms, banks, financial firms and lobbyists make up the bulk of Bidens cashflow.
Of course, the big money people who want to buy politicians will screech "Socialism!"  <<<<

UUhhhhh, noooo.  First Amendment rights would be more of an appropriate thing to 'screech' about.

Darn those amendments! They keep getting in the way of the government controlling everything!!
Union Baby: Norman Hsu is a 'HillRaiser', one of Clinton's key fund raisers. He pledged to raise 'AT LEAST $100,000' for Hillary's Presidential campaign.
Why would he do this ?
Why would he pledge such large sums to Hillary's Presidential campaign ?
What will he get back ?
Access to Hillary ? Input on her policies ?
Federal contracts ? A Presidential pardon ?
Why is Mr. Hsu donating to Hillary Clinton ?

Union Baby, does it bother you that one of George Bush's 'Rangers' (he raised over $200,000 for Bush), Morgan Stanley CEO John Mack is now donating to Hillary ?
Why would a dedicated Republican like John Mack donate to Hillary's Presidential campaign ?
Is he expecting 'business as usual' from a Clinton Administration ?
Is John Mack expecting 'continuity' is economic policy between Bush and Clinton Administrations ?
What has Hillary promised a 'Bush Ranger' ?

What's the difference between a 'HillRaiser' and a 'Bush Ranger' ??

Union Baby, do you thing Hillary is a 'union baby' ? or is she a 'corporate baby' ?
or maybe the 'bosses' baby' ?

Will Gibbs says: Do you think she referred to him in such a formal way when he was bringing $1m into her campaign?

She probably couldn't talk much, for obvious reasons, if she was getting a $1M from Hsu.
'The Nose Knows'-  OSAMA Obama?????  WTF is wrong with you?
From the LA Times
About the 'HillRaiser'

But Hsu's history includes more unsavory episodes and associations. In 1990, he allegedly was kidnapped by Chinese gang members in San Francisco as part of an apparent effort to collect a debt. A year and a half later, he pleaded no contest to a charge of fleecing investors in what authorities called a Ponzi scheme of fraud. Along the way, he left a bankruptcy filing and bitter investors who accused him of making off with their savings.

This is Hillary's 'HillRaiser' !!
Does her campaign check on MARJOR CONTRIBUTORS ?
Will she allow felons to become 'HillRaisers' ??
Do 'HillRaisers' get together with Hillary to discuss national issues ?
Do 'HillRaisers' get favors from Hillary ?
Mark Rich got a pardon from Bill Clinton.
Is that what Norman Hsu was expecting ??

A pretty sleazy episode in Hillary's campaign.
It's not the only sleazy move by Hillary !!
sierra, Hsu did it for the same reason people supported the GOP...future favors down the road.  It is amazing that in a political cycle where repub scandals seem to outnumber dems by at least 2-to-1, the repugs seem so smug and forthright that a dem was caught.  Hypocrisy remains; if they broke the law, jail time, no matter what political affiliation.
This is Hillary's KEY ADVISOR, Mark Penn
The Nation:

...Burson-Marsteller is hardly a natural fit for a prominent Democrat. The firm has represented everyone from the Argentine military junta to Union Carbide after the 1984 Bhopal disaster in India, in which thousands were killed when toxic fumes were released by one of its plants, to Royal Dutch Shell, which has been accused of colluding with the Nigerian government in committing major human rights violations. B-M pioneered the use of pseudo-grassroots front groups, known as "astroturfing," to wage stealth corporate attacks against environmental and consumer groups. It set up the National Smokers Alliance on behalf of Philip Morris to fight tobacco regulation in the early 1990s. Its current clients include major players in the finance, pharmaceutical and energy industries. In 2006, with Penn at the helm, the company gave 57 percent of its campaign contributions to Republican candidates.
……….
As expected with such a lineup, B-M has a highly confrontational relationship with organized labor. "Companies cannot be caught unprepared by Organized Labor's coordinated campaigns," read the "Labor Relations" section of its website, describing that branch of the company (the section was altered after The American Prospect quoted it in March).
Back in 2003, two large unions, UNITE (which later merged with the hotel and restaurant union, HERE) and the Teamsters, launched a major drive to organize 32,000 garment workers and truck drivers at Cintas, the country's largest and most profitable uniform and laundry supply company (it posted $3.4 billion in sales and $327 million in profits last year). Its longtime CEO, Richard Farmer, was a mega-fundraising "Pioneer" for George W. Bush. Cintas was sued for overcharging consumers and denying workers overtime pay--it settled both cases out of court--and was ordered by a California superior court to give employees $1.4 million for not paying them a living wage. It has also maintained unsafe working conditions (an employee in Tulsa died recently when caught in a 300-degree dryer) and, according to union officials, has used any means necessary to block the organizing drive. According to worker complaints documented by the unions, management fired employees on false grounds, vowed to close plants and screened antiunion videos. A plant manager in Vista, California, threatened to "kick driver-employees with his steel-toed boots," according to a complaint UNITE HERE filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). To put a soft face on its harsh tactics, Cintas hired Wade Gates, a top employee in B-M's Dallas office, as its chief spokesman. Gates coined Cintas's shrewd response to labor: "the right to say yes, the freedom to say no," which has been repeated endlessly in the press. In a speech at USC Law School last year, he outlined Cintas's strategy, calling for an "aggressive defense against union tactics." Says Ahmer Qadeer, an organizer for UNITE HERE, "It's the Burson influence that's made Cintas much, much slicker than they were." The unions have won two NLRB rulings against Cintas, but for four years the company has continued to resist the organizing campaign. Penn disclaimed any responsibility for B-M's activities before his arrival at the firm, and he told The Nation he has "never personally participated in any antiunion activity," even though B-M's antilabor arm is still operating under his tenure...'

Hillary's key advisor is a 'UNION BUSTER'
He was a PR flack for the Argentine military dictatorship !!
He was a PR flack for Union Carbide after the Bhopal disaster that killed thousands in India.
He was trying to minimize any 'unfortunate publicity' that might befall Union Carbide (it really wan't THAT BAD. It's just a bunch of peasants)

THIS is Hillary's top advisors....

Union Baby, are you the least concerned about Hillary's top advisor ?
Why would she hire a UNION BUSTER ?
Isn't that odd for a Democrat ??
Is Hillary a Democrat or Bush-lite ??

If he was a GOP donor he would have simply fled to Dubai.
Van...The operative word for Senator Obama and Rizo (that people like to bring up )is "Senate" Campaign.  Not his presendtial campaign, , you really don't want people to start bringing up all of the Clinton past shady fundraising.  For good or bad HSU was a Hillraiser committing to raise 100k for her NOW !!!

She should join Senator Obama on the bill that is waiting on the Presidents desk to have people disclose who their bundlers are  but of course she won't.

She insist that she will continue to take money from  Washington lobbyist refuse to currently disclose who her bundlers are and who is the beneficiary of her EARMARKS.

Do we want 4 more years of secrecy in the White House.

Speaking of past doesn't seem like the Clinton's learn...will the American people
You get the impression that there are a lot of folks here who NEVER let the facts get in the way of their biased, uninformed, opinions.

Yes you
I wrote concerning publicly financed campaigns [[Of course, the big money people who want to buy politicians will screech "Socialism!"]]

Norm sez [[UUhhhhh, noooo.  First Amendment rights would be more of an appropriate thing to 'screech' about. ]]

Oh, yeah, that's the phony "strict constructionists" who claim that money equals speech.  That's a load of BS. What the so-called strict constructionists really mean is "money talks, truth walks."

The Bushites are the ones who've done more to suppress free speech than any recent administration by arranging to have gangs of thugs to shout down protesters and arresting people who dare wearing tee-shirts with slogans like "Out of Iraq" on them to Bush's Neuremberg-style robot rallies. Their "playbook" for suppression of free speech was recently revealed that showed that they used these and other techniques have been used.
He is working right out of the Clinton playbook - because it is an old offense, he asserts that it is no longer relevant.

Mark Y, it wasn't 'a dem', it was a Hillary Clinton HillRaiser.
Let's not tar all Democrats with Hillary Clinton's corrupt practices.
It's Hillary who converted a 'Bush Ranger' to a 'HillRaiser' !!

Let's not tar the Democrats with Hillary's unethical  (and / or illegal) practices
Van...aka..(Captain Cut&Paste)
Will you for once just tell us what Hillary's plans are!! I've heard many people ask you...but all we get is multiple paragraphs of "cut & paste". Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you put alot of work into it. But limited,single-perspective polls(500 likely Dem. voters) and copouts like "hey, they all do it," just doesn't convince SMART voters that Hillary's the one. Cut it short and just tell us if you know what Hillary's Health Care Plan is. That one should be easy for ya. Try some substance this time if you insist on 10 paragraphs or more.
This Hsu guy is quite the character. I mean really, he's wanted in California, but yet he's in New York continuing the con job, eh, fund raising, and nobody notices this guy has been wanted for 15 years?  Oh, wait, he raised money for Eliot Spitzer too.  That explains it.  I can see Spitzer talking with the California AG: "Shoe?  I don't know no Shoe".  Obama is dirty too.  Isn't it interesting that all the big time Democrats have got money from this guy?

Then Hillary turns on the Dumb Blond routine (I know, not much of a stretch for her) as to who this guy is, and what's he's up to.

What do people figure on the amount of foreign money in Hillary's campaign fund (for you liberals out there, having that money is illegal)?  40-50% outside money?  More?
I just read all the posts her. I think it is great that everybody has an opinion. I believe this has been blown way out of proportion. (Unles this is a conservative republican site only!) Let the man without sin cast the first stone. You are all wrong for condemning what you don't know. Talk big, walk small. I have no great feelings for the democrats or the republicans. I have a vested interest in the USA. There is scandal and wrong doing on both sides of the fence. Should you be held responsible for something you knew nothing about? Your friedn owes you $100, he robs a bank to get it. (You know nothing about that) 15 years later he is caught. Are you going to donate that $100 becasue it was dirty. I doubt it!
Adam C: Where said GOP donor would have run smack into Bill Clinton, who has not only made Dubai a sort of second home, but has also been doing freelance[YUCAIPA]  for DUBAI WORLD PORTS on the Dubai princes payroll.[unsurprisingly enough,Hillary did not mention this fact when she was lambasting the Bush administration over the ports deal a few years back, nor did she mention that the GLOVER GROUP,which is tied to DUBAI WORLD and tried to seal the deal, had two guys in Dubai working with DUBAI WORLD as hired guns . They are Howard Wolfson, now Hillary campaign manager and Joe Lockhart, former Clinton press secretary]. We will mention here that Lockhart is now a lobbyist enconsed on K St. in Washington and will be looking to further the influence of the Arab princes upon any new Hillary administration,as will obviously, her husband.

You first. The only reason anyone asks why you support Hillary here is as a jumping off point for a critique with all of the same innuendo, rumor, and invective, that fills up the board daily.

If you want to know what her plans are, what she stands for, and why she's the best candidate, you can Google her name, go to her website(s), or use the links I post to look at her legislative record.

Despite all of the many dissenting voices in this tiny non representative universe, she's going to be President, so you probably SHOULD try to find out what her plans are.

BTW, Who gets to decide who, "SMART", voters are?

Van
Politics aside I am glad they caught a guy who bilked investors and defrauded people and thought he could just walk scot-free.

sierra,
as if the repugs are totally innocent on fundraising scandals...send em to jail, doesn't matter which party.  but you see only repug red, so you missed that point.
If Hillary were a "strong" candidate she wouldn't have sold her soul to Rupert Murdoch for his media empire to do her attacking for her.

Hillary/Murdoch08
The media fools viewers by claiming or implying Hillary has a health care plan. SHE. DOES. NOT.
15 years - and nutting yet! while the working poor and middle class with NO health care pay for HER health care costs!!
John Edwards has a brilliant health care plan! and an overwhelming majority of Americans want universal health care. But the corporate media and their corporate sponsors - the Insurance and Pharma industries - are in no hurry.  That's why the public knows more about Edwards haircuts than his health care plan. Bingo!
This Hsu thing is exactly why we need Ron Paul for President. He is about the only honest man in Washington. Investigate if you don't believe me.

Hillary claims with all the people donating to her campaign how could she know about all of them.
What I'd like to know is why the obvious has gone under the radar or notice of the msm.
Seeing how Hsu is her biggest Hillraiser, how could she not know????
For those of you who wonder about Hillary and the Chinese, her views on women in Arkansas back in the 80's and 90's and her approach to the unions, here is a little story from the Village Voice.....

HRC AND WAL-MART

WARD HARKAVY, VILLAGE VOICE 2000 - Twice in three days last week, Hillary Rodham Clinton basked in the adulation of cheering union . . . They would have dropped their forks if they had heard that Hillary served for six years on the board of the dreaded Wal-Mart, a union-busting behemoth. If they had learned the details of her friendship with Wal-Mart, they might have lost their lunches. . .

As she was leaving the dais, she ignored a reporter's question about Wal-Mart, and she ignored it again when she strode by reporters in the hotel lobby.

But there are questions. In 1986, when Hillary was first lady of Arkansas, she was put on the board of Wal-Mart. Officials at the time said she wasn't filling a vacancy. In May 1992, as Hubby's presidential campaign heated up, she resigned from the board of Wal-Mart. Company officials said at the time that they weren't going to fill her vacancy.

So what the hell was she doing on the Wal-Mart board? According to press accounts at the time, she was a show horse at the company's annual meetings when founder Sam Walton bused in cheering throngs to celebrate his non-union empire, which is headquartered in Arkansas, one of the country's poorest states. According to published reports, she was placed in charge of the company's "green" program to protect the environment.

But nobody got greener than Sam Walton and his family. For several years in the '80s, he was judged the richest man in America by Forbes magazine; his fortune zoomed into the billions until he split it up among relatives. It's no surprise that Hillary is a strong supporter of free trade with China. Wal-Mart, despite its "Buy American" advertising campaign, is the single largest U.S. importer, and half of its imports come from China.

Was Hillary the voice of conscience on the board for American and foreign workers? Contemporary accounts make no mention of that. They do describe her as a "corporate litigator" in those days, and they mention, speaking of environmental matters, that she also served on the board of Lafarge, a company that, according to a press account, once burned hazardous fuels to run its cement plants. . .

And the Clintons depended on Wal-Mart's largesse not only for Hillary's regular payments as a board member but for travel expenses on Wal-Mart planes and for heavy campaign contributions to Bill's campaigns there and nationally. . .

During the same period, small towns all over America began complaining that Wal-Mart was squeezing out ma-and-pa stores and leaving little burgs throughout the Midwest and South with downtowns that featured little more than empty storefronts.

Let's watch and listen to see how long this incident will be "news".  It will be very interesting to compare it to a Republican being in the same position, won't it?  We have the most bias news media in the world!!!!!
Houston, you are so right, and I do offer my apologies.  Those "strict constuctionist" comments of mine were completely out of line.

The first admendment gives us free speech, unless the government tells us to shut-up.

The second amendment says we can bear arms, unless the government tells us we can't.

The fifth amendment gives us the right to privacy, unless we want to own a gun I guess.  Oh, it also says its a right to knock off a few million fetus's (aka babies) every year.

So, to liberals, those pesky amendments mean what every they feel like at the moment.  I guess libs use them for toliet paper.

You just want to take people like Houston, sit them down, and have an intelligent conversation.  But, through experience, you just know it would be a waste of time.

Oh, and I guess I could end the post like a liberal.  Bush bad, Bush evil, impeach Bush, Bush lied.
